Demon Slayer, known in Japan as Kimetsu no Yaiba, is a manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotōge. The story follows the journey of Kamado Tanjiro as he searches for a way to turn his sister Nezuko back into a human after she is transformed into a demon.

In Taisho-era Japan, Tanjiro is the eldest son of a coal-selling family whose father has passed away. To support them, he goes to town to sell charcoal. Despite life's challenges, they manage to find happiness in their daily lives. However, everything changes when Tanjiro returns home to find his family slaughtered by a demon. Nezuko, one of his younger sisters, is the only survivor, but she has been turned into a demon. She initially attacks Tanjiro, but continues to show signs of human emotions and thoughts. This is when a demon slayer named Giyū Tomioka intervenes. While attempting to kill Nezuko, Giyū realizes the bond between the Kamado siblings and decides to spare her life. On Giyū’s advice, Tanjiro travels to his master, Sakonji Urokodaki, to train as a demon slayer and begin his quest to find a cure to turn his sister back into a human.

Demons: Demons are malevolent creatures that primarily feed on human flesh. Muzan Kibutsuji is believed to be the first demon, and with his blood, he can turn humans into new demons, provided they can withstand the dose of blood he injects. Demons can alter their bodies at will, heal rapidly, and possess superhuman strength and agility. Some also have special abilities known as “Blood Demon Arts.” They can only be killed by sunlight or decapitation with a Nichirin Blade.
