My Hero Academia is a Japanese superhero anime series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi . The story follows Izuku Midoriya , a boy born without superpowers (called Quirks) in a world where they have become commonplace, but who still dreams of becoming a superhero himself. He is spotted by All Might , Japan's greatest hero, who chooses Midoriya as his successor and shares his Alter with him after recognizing his potential, and later helps enroll him in a prestigious high school for heroes in training.

The story of My Hero Academia takes place in a world where currently most of the human population has acquired the ability to develop superpowers called "Quirks" , which occur in children under the age of four: it is estimated that about 80% of the world's population has an alter. There are an infinite number of Alters, and it is extremely unlikely to find two people who have exactly the same power, unless they are closely related. Among the Alter-enhanced individuals, some of them earn the title of Hero, who cooperates with the authorities in rescue operations and apprehends criminals who abuse their powers, commonly known as villains. In addition, Heroes who excel in their duties gain celebrity status and are recognized as "Pro Heroes."

The series focuses on Izuku Midoriya , a young man who dreams of becoming a hero despite being harassed by his violent childhood friend Katsuki Bakugo for lack of alter . The two youngsters idolize one of the world's greatest heroes, All Might, whom they both met, with Izuku being one of the few who knows about a serious injury that All Might hid from the public eye to maintain morale. All Might also reveals the nature of his alter "One For All" and passes it on to Izuku to succeed him after seeing the youngster's determination in the face of danger. As Izuku begins his path to becoming a hero by attending UA High School alongside Bakugo and the friends they make in Class 1-A, a sworn enemy of "One For All" users named All For One conditions his apprentice Tomura Shigaraki to destroy the current society and its heroes.
