Gintoki is a practitioner of the Samurai way and the Bushido code. During the war against the Amanto, Gintoki was known as Shiroyasha, "the White Demon." On the battlefield, his ruthless abilities and wild swordsmanship were so notorious that the mere mention of his name once instilled fear in the hearts of every Amanto.
Although little is known about his past, several Shinobi and Samurai who fought alongside him noted that his fighting style was self-taught but far from crude.
