Appearance
Il-Hwan was a man with an impressive physique: muscular, with piercing gray eyes and tousled black hair. When manifesting his powers or angry, his eyes glowed with a bright yellow light. Despite a decade spent in dungeons, he looked surprisingly young, as noted by Hwang Dongsoo, and seemed little affected by time.
During his fugitive days, he wore a torn brown cape over a shredded white shirt, with bandaged hands, loose black pants, and boots; his appearance before disappearance was neater, wearing a brown jacket over a simple black shirt.
Personality
Il-Hwan was a man deeply attached to his family, fiercely defending them against those who harmed them. He did not hesitate to crush Hwang Dongsoo for attempting, without valid reason, to kill his son Jinwoo. However, he was also altruistic: he strived to protect innocents caught in the crossfire and chose to spare his enemies when possible, showing great mercy despite the circumstances.
History
During his youth, Il-Hwan worked as a firefighter, meeting and marrying Park Kyung-Hye. Together, they had two children they cherished, Jinwoo and Jinah. When the existence of magical beasts was revealed, Il-Hwan left his career to become one of Korea’s first S-rank hunters. Not having known the ranking system then non-existent, his strength remained unknown to the public, preventing him from enjoying the current privileges of prestigious hunters.
Ten years before the main story, trapped in a dungeon, Il-Hwan was presumed dead by his family. Before hunger or dehydration could take him, the mysterious Rulers found him and granted him their powers, assigning him the mission to eliminate the future Shadow Monarch, soon to be embodied by his own son. With no way to escape, Il-Hwan accepted his mission despite the painful family separation.

Demon Castle Arc
After Ashborn chose Jinwoo as host, Il-Hwan was temporarily allowed by the Rulers to reintegrate the human world to continue his mission. In the United States, he encountered a team of A-rank hunters who attacked him, mistaking him for a threat, but Il-Hwan easily dominated their assaults. Arrested by the Federal Hunters Bureau, he was interrogated by Hwang Dongsoo, who bore a deep grudge against Jinwoo for the death of his elder brother. The interrogation escalated into a fight, where Il-Hwan destroyed the Bureau’s HQ and escaped, warning Hwang never to return to Korea.
Ahjin Guild Arc
By deliberately luring Sillad to America through traces of his power, Il-Hwan engaged in a fierce battle but was outmatched. Despite a massive energy explosion, he survived the confrontation, although what happened afterwards remains unknown.
Japanese Crisis Arc
Informed that his target would be in Tokyo, Il-Hwan went there to complete his mission. He then discovered that the Shadow Monarch was actually his son, Jinwoo, and refused to kill him. The Rulers, witnessing Jinwoo’s feats, adjusted their stance and entrusted Il-Hwan with the task of protecting his son, which he accepted gratefully.
International Guild Conference Arc
The investigation into Christopher Reed’s murder revealed mana traces similar to Il-Hwan’s, making him the primary suspect. A red notice was issued, revealing to Jinwoo that his father was still alive.
Monarchs’ War Arc
When three Monarchs attacked Seoul, Il-Hwan came to assist Jinwoo. He single-handedly eliminated Querehsha and fought Rakan and Sillad. Wounded and severely weakened, he saved Jinwoo from a deadly attack but was himself almost defeated. Beru saved the situation by breaking an ice meteor, allowing Jinwoo to return stronger and defeat their enemies. Exhausted, Il-Hwan confided in his son before his body dissolved into light.

Epilogue
Thanks to the Rulers’ last use of the Reincarnation Cup, a new timeline was created where humanity is unaware of magical creatures. In this world, Il-Hwan kept his job as a firefighter and never became a hunter. Later, he regained his past memories but asked to have them erased to live peacefully with his family.
Abilities
Il-Hwan, as a Sovereign, was among the most powerful hunters in the world, probably right after Jinwoo. Nevertheless, his body could not withstand the powers he received, and he succumbed shortly after an intense battle against Sillad and Rakan.
- Superhuman Strength: capable of easily defeating Hwang Dongsoo and throwing Rakan through several buildings.
- Exceptional Speed: fast and agile enough to dodge and simultaneously counter attacks from two powerful adversaries.
- Stealth: ability to perfectly camouflage, becoming almost invisible both physically and magically.
- Sovereign Power: telekinesis, control and remote movement of objects.
