Bleach is much more than just a famous shonen anime - it's an essential and influential pillar of the genre.
The legacy of its battles is the most tangible proof, having lasted well beyond the original manga and anime series, even during less glorious periods. Despite some criticism directed at Bleach, almost no one has questioned the quality of its fights.

In terms of animation and visual intensity, even the oldest episodes of Bleach remain competitive with modern shonen anime. What especially distinguishes the battles of Ichigo Kurosaki and his allies is the strong narrative context supporting them. Without these deep story arcs, even the best-animated fight scenes would have lacked impact. It's this rich storytelling and well-developed characters that have made Bleach a true pop culture icon.
10. The Lost Agent Arc: The Triumphant Return of Bleach's Battles
Best fight: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Kugo Ginjo
The final arc before Bleach’s abrupt pause in 2012, "The Lost Agent Arc" (also known as the Fullbringers Arc), is often underrated even by die-hard fans. Yet, despite its flaws, this arc refreshed and improved the animation, marking a peak for the series at that time.
Released after criticisms of excessive censorship and filler in the anime, the arc gave Bleach a second wind, featuring tactical and entertaining battles between Shinigami and Fullbringers. Unfortunately, the Fullbringers were eliminated too early to show their full potential.
9. Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 2: An Adaptation That Saves the Arc
Best fight: Senjumaru Shutara (winner) vs. The Schutzstaffel
In terms of animation, Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 is nearly flawless. The classic and new powers of the Shinigami, as well as the Sternritter’s Vollständig, are beautifully showcased on screen. New battles were even created especially for the anime, compensating for some gaps in the manga.
However, despite the quality and creativity of the fights, this arc lacks dramatic tension and antagonist development for the Sternritters. The Shinigami’s victories sometimes seem too easy—especially thanks to Kisuke Urahara’s all-powerful inventions. Nevertheless, this part remains far superior to its manga equivalent.

8. Arrancar Part 6: New Stakes and Characters
Best fight: Ikkaku Madarame (winner) vs. Edrad Liones
The first half of the Arrancar Arc clearly establishes Aizen as the main enemy, with the early battles confirming this. The Espada and the Visoreds make a remarkable entrance in Karakura, but the most notable fight remains that of Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and his group against the Shinigami.
These duels allowed both sides to demonstrate their strengths and foreshadow the coming war, while the Visoreds helped Ichigo control his inner Hollow. Though less spectacular than later arcs, it remains an excellent prelude to Bleach’s major war.
7. Arrancar Part 4: Arrancar vs. Soul Reaper—Development Through Battle
Best fight: Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi (winner) vs. Szayelaporro Granz
This transition arc propels Ichigo and friends to the next phase of the story, offering memorable fights. Bleach’s strongest warriors make their debut in Hueco Mundo, shifting the story’s dynamic.
While the battles are remarkably staged, the true highlight is the psychological development of characters through combat. In particular, the captains of the Gotei 13 take a more central role, deepening the series further.
6. Arrancar Part 3: Fierce Fights Worthy of Bleach’s Reputation
Best fight: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, round 3
The Arrancar arc intensifies when the heroes move from fighting subordinates to taking on the Espada directly. True to its title, “The Fierce Fight” is packed with passionate and deeply personal duels between protagonists and their advanced rivals.
This arc borders on perfection. Heroes and villains are at their peak, and the animation brilliantly stages their decisive clashes. Every fight feels balanced and full of surprises, emphasizing the importance of every action. The only negative is that this unending war was prolonged a bit too long.
5. Soul Society Part 1: The Introduction Arc Gives Heroes Their First True Battles
Best fight: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Captain Zaraki Kenpachi
Despite being the second season, "The Entrance Arc" is where Ichigo and his allies truly realize the scale of the conflict. Declaring war on the Soul Society, they discover a broader universe populated with powerful and fearsome fighters—leading to epic confrontations.
Although the animation is still simple at this stage, the intensity of Ichigo and Kenpachi's battle is fully felt, marking a turning point for the series.
4. Soul Society Part 2: The Rescue Reveals Fully Developed Characters
Best fight: Sosuke Aizen (winner) vs. Ichigo Kurosaki
The second half of the Soul Society arc marks the personal revelation of many characters. Ichigo finally masters his Bankai and defeats Byakuya Kuchiki, Ishida avenges the Quincy against Mayuri Kurotsuchi, and Renji confirms his loyalty to Ichigo.
However, it is Aizen who stands out the most, embodying a truly memorable antagonist. Even if his battles were short and unbalanced, they introduced a villain emblematic of shonen anime. Time has not diminished the impact of these confrontations.
3. Arrancar Part 6: The Fall of the Espadas Closes the Saga on a High Note
Best fight: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Ulquiorra Cifer
The Fall of the Espadas arc is undeniably the climax of the Arrancar saga. It features the peak power of the top three Espadas, as Ichigo faces two of his most fearsome adversaries: Ulquiorra Cifer and Sosuke Aizen.
The battles are long and grueling, highlighting the strength of enemy elites and the godlike Aizen. In addition, each antagonist has a personal story that adds deep emotion to this arc. Though less celebrated today, it remains essential—even beside the improvements of later arcs.

2. Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 1: A Triumphant Return After 9 Years Away
Best fight: "Emperor Yhwach" (winner) vs. Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto
After a nine-year break, the series returned with the controversial adaptation of the manga's finale. The Thousand-Year Blood War had huge expectations—but it easily surpassed them, bringing Bleach back to its peak.
Produced by Studio Pierrot Films, this final war modernizes the series with impressive animation and direction. The battles are more intense than ever, and the stakes reach new heights. The invasion of Soul Society by the Wandenreich is one of the most terrifying and exciting moments in Bleach.
1. Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 3: The Ultimate Peak of Bleach Battles
Best fight: Uryu Ishida (winner) vs. Ichigo Kurosaki, round 1
The third part of the Thousand-Year Blood War represents the pinnacle of battles and animation in Bleach. "The Conflict" narrows the field to the most powerful Soul Reapers and Quincies, offering grand and emotional fights.
"The Conflict" presents some of Bleach's most intense and personal duels, particularly between Ichigo and Ishida. Only the final arc, "The Calamity," could surpass this chapter in terms of animation and storytelling. Judging by the battles to come, its supremacy seems inevitable.
