Appearance

Ashborn presents as an imposing shadow warrior, with a powerful and slender musculature. His vibrant purple hair contrasts with his blazing eyes that seem to burn with dark energy. Two elegantly curved black horns adorn his forehead, while claws sharper than normal testify to his formidable nature. His jet-black armor beautifully covers his body, giving this sovereign a silhouette both menacing and majestic. A long black cape, resembling dark smoke, flows behind him, adding a palpable mystery to his presence. In his right hand, he wields a deep black sword, symbolizing his dominion over darkness.

In contrast, his celestial sovereign form reveals him in an almost divine purity. Ashborn appears as a majestic white knight, with a robust build and massive white wings fully spread in all their glory. His long silver hair falls elegantly around his face with glowing white eyes, marking his quasi-immortal nature. This incarnation wears a silver robe combined with harmonious light beige armor, accompanied by a subtle blue-gray shimmering cape. His immaculate sword features a beige guard and gray handle, worthy of a celestial warrior ready to defend justice.

Personality

Ashborn showed deep compassion and genuine respect for life, contrary to what his status as Shadow Monarch might suggest. He bore a fervent wish for lasting peace, weary from the endless war ravaging his universe between Monarchs and Rulers. It was this desire to definitively end the bloody conflicts that led him to entrust his immense powers to a human, hoping a mortal could achieve peace where divine powers failed. Nevertheless, his unwavering loyalty to the Absolute Being, the supreme entity that created them all, remained steadfast. Even after discovering troubling truths about the Absolute Being, Ashborn remained faithful to his original cause, continuing the fight under its banner.

History

Centuries ago, amid an apocalyptic war, Ashborn fought bravely alongside other Sovereigns in a titanic struggle against the Monarchs, acting under direct orders of their creator god, known as the Absolute Being. This divine entity manipulated events behind the scenes, viewing his creatures as pawns in a cosmic game. When his brother Sovereigns rebelled, refusing to continue serving the Absolute Being blindly, Ashborn was the only one who maintained faith in their creator and tried to prevent their revolt.

Despite his determination, the rebels swiftly defeated him, leaving him for dead and critically injured. As he expected to die, he made a surprising discovery: the Absolute Being had concealed within him an unprecedented power, a monstrous strength ready to be activated. This revelation saved him and transformed him into what he became: the Shadow Monarch. With this renewed vigor, he resumed the fight, empowered and ready to continue the struggle. Yet, upon his return, he bitterly realized the war was over, the rebellion crushed, and the Absolute Being itself had become a relic of the past.

Over time, after the strategic capture of Legia fortress by the Rulers, Ashborn realized the Monarchs could not survive without his major intervention. He thus offered support, though it was met with great mistrust by both warring factions. He temporarily managed to stabilize the fragile balance between enemy forces, prolonging the conflict. His overwhelming power sparked fear and jealousy, notably from two of the nine Monarchs: Rakan and Baran. They conspired to overthrow him but were easily defeated by Ashborn. In retaliation, Ashborn eliminated Baran following his betrayal, though his shadow army suffered severe losses during these fierce battles.

Despite his victories, Ashborn eventually faced the Rulers who approached him, begging for forgiveness. After an initial hostile reaction demanding their death to end the war, he fell into a deep emotion and remained silent, unable to respond. Determined to avenge Rakan, he left the battlefield to secretly rebuild his shadow army, allowing the Rulers to crush the remaining Monarchs, who were forced into hiding. Nonetheless, Ashborn soon rejoined the Monarch ranks, welcomed by Antares, their supreme leader, celebrating his return at a time when their power waned following recent defeats.

Centuries later, when the Monarchs invaded the human world, Ashborn followed their assault, seeking a real place in a chaotic universe he never fully belonged to. Concurrently, he began searching for a worthy human vessel to bear his powers. This quest was aided by a mage named Kandiaru, who agreed to help in exchange for immortality. He designed a special program to identify and prepare a potential host.

While Kandiaru continued searching for a suitable human host, Ashborn noticed an exceptional case that defied the strict rules: Sung Jinwoo. Despite his fragile initial condition and near death, Jinwoo showed extraordinary tenacity and determination, risking his life multiple times to protect his family. This remarkable courage convinced Ashborn that Jinwoo was the chosen one destined to become his vessel and inherit his powers.

D-Rank Dungeon Arc

Against Kandiaru's advice, Ashborn boldly chose Jinwoo as a host several months before the Monarchs began hunting the Rulers in the human world. Gradually, he initiated Jinwoo’s transformation into a vessel worthy of absorbing his full powers through the system developed for this purpose.

Double Dungeon Arc

When Jinwoo reached the maximum level of 100, Kandiaru invited him back to the Double Dungeon where Ashborn was supposed to fully possess him as a host. However, Ashborn, having conceived a new strategy, betrayed Kandiaru: instead of controlling Jinwoo, he transferred his powers to him, preparing the succession of the Shadow Monarch title. As punishment, he expelled Kandiaru from the system, returned his black heart, and allowed Jinwoo full control over his body, killing Kandiaru when the latter realized the betrayal and joined the Rulers.

War of the Monarchs Arc

During a crucial battle, Jinwoo was killed by Rakan and projected into an alternate timeline where the system still considered him a player. Initially convinced of the experience’s reality, he soon realized it was an illusion. He then spoke to its maintainer, who revealed himself as Ashborn. Presenting himself, Ashborn explained in detail his history, the true enemies of the Monarchs and Rulers, and the reasons Jinwoo was chosen as successor and host. After the revelation, Ashborn offered Jinwoo two choices: to live eternally in this imaginary world or continue fighting the Monarchs. Jinwoo naturally chose to fight, prompting Ashborn’s farewell before returning to reality and fully reclaiming his Shadow Monarch powers.

Academy Arc

When Jinwoo learned from his wife Cha Hae-In that their son Suho was experiencing rejection at school due to his growing powers, he deeply reflected. He understood that the Absolute Being had initially entrusted Ashborn with the title and powers of Shadow Monarch as a final means to destroy his own creations if they rebelled—a last control mechanism.

As Shadow Monarch and Greatest Shining Light Fragment, Ashborn is recognized as one of the most powerful beings in the universe, rivaling mainly Antares. His arsenal of powers matches his reputation.

• Superhuman Strength: His physical power is so extraordinary that he was able to crush entire armies with brute force, defeat two Monarchs simultaneously, and crush Baran’s skull with a single hand.
• Power Bestowal: He has the ability to grant his immense powers to a human worthy of mastering them. Frustrated by the lack of suitable hosts, he created the System to train a proper candidate.
• Transformation: He can alter his appearance at will, adopting different forms to deceive or impress.
