Who is Lim Tae-Gyu in Solo Leveling?

Lim Tae-Gyu is a Korean S-rank hunter, specialized in archery magic, and master of the Demon Guild.

Appearance

Lim is a young man with messy black hair and a small goatee. At his first appearance, he wore a black tuxedo. During the Jeju Island raid, he wore brown armor, a matching hat, and a light golden bow.

In the revised timeline, Lim has changed little from the original version, except his hair, which is now longer and falls to the middle of his back.

Personality

Lim lacks confidence in his abilities, hoping the Japanese S-rank hunters will be lenient during the 4v4 battle. Nevertheless, he performs his duties seriously. Despite his wealth, he is somewhat stingy, ordering his guild to protect Lee Minsung because of his value.

In the revised timeline, Tae-Gyu is more confident and strict toward Minsung, disappointed by his former master. He tries to prevent the Korean Association from arresting his vice-guild chief but values Minsung's friendship, not wanting to kill or harm him.

History

At the founding of the Demon Guild, Lim was its master and it dominated South Korea. It lost this rank when Baek Yoonho and several high-ranking members left to found the White Tiger Guild.

Jeju Island Arc

Lim participated in the 4v4 battle between Korean and Japanese hunters, facing Minoru Hoshino. Although he temporarily forced Minoru to defend himself, he was quickly subdued and eliminated. When he saw Goto Ryuji training with Sung Jinwoo, he was astonished by their speed.

Before the Jeju raid, Lim ordered his guild to protect Minsung by placing him at the rear. Shortly after, Korean S-rank hunters parachuted onto the island to eliminate the Ant Queen during the fourth raid.

Ragnarök

Tae-Gyu was Minsung’s driver and managed his affairs when he was famous. After the Great Cataclysm, he became an S-rank hunter and asked Minsung to found the Reapers Guild. Tae-Gyu handled the fieldwork while Minsung managed administration to strengthen the guild.

Over time, Tae-Gyu discovered Minsung’s illegal activities and tried to stop him. During a raid in Southeast Asia, he asked him to cut ties with criminals before hanging up. Back in Korea, he forced Minsung to close the Paju Field dungeon under pressure from the Hunter Association. He was then invited to the Association headquarters, where Tiel offered him to join his guild.

Along with Choi Jong-In, he had a friendly confrontation before recognizing the decline of his former vice-master. After witnessing the power of an A-rank hunter, he intervened to help the hunters, then chased the fleeing Minsung. He encountered Sung Suho fighting transformed Minsung, fired several warning shots, then tried to eliminate him despite hesitation. He was distracted by a ghost soldier and lost his targets.

Abilities

Lim is the most powerful ranger in Korea, excellent in combat even without a bow. However, he is more effective at range and disadvantaged in close combat. Despite his rank, Lim is considered mediocre for an S, probably one of the weakest worldwide.

• Magic Arrows: Lim can instantly create up to five magical arrows, capable of piercing the skin of the Ant Queen and damaging the hunters' arena. He can also shoot them with his bow to increase their speed.
• Shooting: A highly skilled archer, he precisely targets enemies' weak points.
• Enhanced Senses: His senses are sharp enough to detect a shadow soldier's manifestation.
• Improved Speed: He is fast enough to chase Minsung and keep up with two high-level Awakened.
• Increased Endurance: His strength allows him to withstand a blow from Hoshino.
