Turbo Granny: A Famous Yokai from Dandadan
Turbo Granny is a renowned yokai, once haunting a tunnel in Shono City until her confrontation with Momo Ayase and Okarun.
After her powers were sealed within Okarun and her consciousness trapped in a plush doll, Turbo Granny made a pact with Momo. She agreed to help recover Okarun’s kintama in exchange for regaining her abilities.

In Dandadan, she first serves as the main antagonist in the Turbo Granny arc, but gradually becomes an important supporting character as the series progresses.

Appearance
This yokai appears as a very old woman with wrinkled, reddish-brown skin, large wild white hair, and bulging, yellow-tinged eyes that often seem to stare off to the sides. When possessing others, she transforms them into reversed versions of themselves, with a wide mouth lined with teeth able to bite off body parts.
Personality
Turbo Granny is depicted as a cruel, sadistic yokai with extremely crude manners. She often speaks with vulgar language and isn't afraid to provoke, such as offering Okarun to suckle her breast in exchange for a dare. Proud of her incredible speed, she refuses to be underestimated; her cunning allows her to manipulate Okarun and Momo, notably cheating during their game of tag by counting irregularly.
Despite her rough demeanor, she is capable of compassion: Seiko reveals Turbo Granny once comforted the spirits of young girls who died tragically, explaining her fusion with the Earthbound Spirit Crab in Shono City.
Origins
In modern times, Turbo Granny was a feared yokai known as the "100 km/h Granny" (100キロババア, 100 Kiro Babā), terrorizing people across Japan. During her wanderings, she brought solace to the spirits of young girls who died under tragic circumstances, eventually fusing with an earthbound spirit in a Shono City tunnel. She would curse those entering her domain by stealing their reproductive organs.

Abilities & Powers
Spiritual Powers
Blazing Speed
- Turbo Granny’s signature ability is phenomenal speed, reaching up to 100km/h (62.1 mph).
- This allows her to cross great distances effortlessly—even on curves—giving her an edge over fast vehicles like trains moving at 120km/h.
- In legend, she uses this speed to catch up with anyone trying to escape, then curses them.
Teleportation via Phone Lines
- She can teleport by traveling along phone lines, utilizing her ability to perceive magnetic spirals within electrical currents.
- This allows instant movement to any location with a phone present.
- Example: She appeared in the Serpo spaceship via Momo’s cellphone while possessing Okarun’s body.
Spirit Form
- Turbo Granny can shift her physical body into an intangible spirit form.
- This enables her to possess her target’s body, controlling their actions and retaining all her powers, especially her blinding speed.
- She can possess both humans and spirits—such as when she took over the Earthbound Spirit Crab to play tag with Momo.
Curse
- She curses anyone trying to flee her, stealing their genitals and transforming their body to resemble her own. Their consciousness becomes overtaken by the yokai, leading them to attack indiscriminately.
- This curse allows Turbo Granny to control the cursed body remotely from elsewhere, still using her extreme speed.
- She can also use possessed bodies as relays to communicate long distance, her main body resting in a pocket dimension where time only passes for her and her chosen interlocutor.
- The curse is contagious—those meeting the eye of the cursed may suffer cardiac arrest, stroke, or hemorrhage.
- Only returning the stolen organs or an exorcism can break her spell.
Fusion
- Turbo Granny can fuse with any consenting spirit, gaining access to their powers at will—making her especially dangerous depending on her chosen partner.
- For instance, she fused with the Earthbound Spirit Crab in the Shono City tunnel to bring peace to the souls of the tragically deceased girls, establishing her authority over the city.

Other Powers
Luck Influence
- In her maneki-neko doll form, Turbo Granny claims the superstitious power to attract good luck to those around her.
- Her presence confers exceptional fortune—granting an edge in battle to her allies while jinxing her foes. However, this effect is random and indiscriminate, sometimes blessing her enemies as well as her friends, and she cannot consciously control who benefits.
Former Powers
Fusion with the Earthbound Spirit Crab
Territorial Domination
- By fusing with the Earthbound Spirit Crab, Turbo Granny controlled the crab’s territory—including the infamous tunnel—in Shono City.
- She could command local spirits to possess residents, alter the environment (like hands emerging from the ground to snare prey), and even stretched the tunnel to prevent escape (anime version).
- This control faded outside Shono City, leaving Turbo Granny and the Crab vulnerable elsewhere.
- Example: She and the Crab would summon spirits from the city’s cemetery, possess townsfolk, and ambush fleeing enemies with overwhelming numbers.
