Alluka Zoldyck

Alluka Zoldyck is the second youngest child of Silva and Kikyo Zoldyck. Under unknown circumstances, she was possessed by a mysterious creature from the dark continent, which her family named Nanika. The two currently share Alluka's body.

Apparence

Alluka has long black hair, blue eyes and a pale complexion. She is wearing the traditional clothes of a Japanese shrine girl, with boots and a headband decorated with emotional cartoon faces. Her face is framed by two strands of hair, each attached to four headbands decorated with the same cartoon faces on her headband.

As a younger child, Alluka had long, unkempt hair and wore pants.

Girl or boy?

Aruka is indeed a girl. There is considerable confusion about the gender of Aruka.

Two of Aruka's brothers, Irumi and Miruki, state that Aruka is their brother, and Silva refers to Aruka as "he".

But Kirua, her closest brother, explicitly states that "Aruka is a girl" and refers to her as his sister on several occasions. However, at one point in the 2011 anime, Kirua says "And the only one who can save Gon is Aruka". This inconsistency is explained by Kirua's intimate connection and understanding with Aruka, so he would know that Aruka is a woman mentally, compared to Irumi's cold and dehumanizing attitude towards Aruka.

So Aruka is a girl, she is named by the pronoun "he" because she is considered an object and not a person. In season 4, episode 6, Kirua clearly says "Aruka is a girl" while talking with Gotô, and Tsubone said that Aruka is a nice girl.

Personality

Before Alluka's official introduction, Silva calls her a dark and uncontrollable child. He claims that Alluka has no soul because of the circumstances of her birth and cannot feel emotions.

However, once reunited with her closest brother Killua, Alluka displays a loving, simple and adorable personality. Aruka is generally very happy with Killua and trusts him deeply, probably because he was the only one to show her compassion.

According to Kirua, Alluka calls him "big brother", while Nanika only calls him by his name.

Capabilities and powers

Unlike her brothers, Alluka has no fighting ability. She is like a normal child in terms of fighting and physical endurance. However, due to being Nanika's host, her own parents fear her ability to wipe out the family in an instant. Alluka shares an empathic bond with Nanika, which allows her to perceive her emotions.

Alluka has no Nen skills or Nen abilities of her own and only acts as a medium so that Nanika can use her wish-fulfilling powers. It is unclear whether these powers are aura-based, and thus presumably related to Nen, or whether they are a separate type of ability.

Past

Aruka's first appearance is in a family photo of the Zoldik siblings and Kikyô (the photo being shown to illustrate Karuto's desire to find his "older brother"). In the photo, Aruka did not pose with her mother and brothers, instead she was standing at a distance behind them with her back to them. Her name was not revealed in the manga until chapter 321, so for a long period of time, readers of Hunter x Hunter could not guess the name of the child, even on the basis of information about the Zoldik family provided in the Databook of 2004.

Aruka officially makes her debut in the manga in chapter 321 where she is seen sitting emotionless on the floor of a room full of dolls. Her father, Silva, when talking to Kirua about her, uses the demonstrative pronoun "it" and says that she is from the darkness. Through Kirua's flashback of her childhood, information about Aruka is revealed. As a small child, Aruka asked Mitsuba, a servant of the Zoldik family, to do three simple things: carry Aruka, climb stairs, and raise Aruka in the air. After Mitsuba did what Aruka asked her to do, Aruka's eyes and mouth suddenly turned black. Panicked by this, Mitsuba called for help. Kirua came and gave her back her original form and asked her to fly it, which she did. After the accident, Kirua told her parents about Aruka's secret because Mitsuba had already told them. It turned out then that when Aruka had three requests fulfilled, her eyes and mouth turned black, and they returned to normal, when she heard and granted a wish.

To test his ability, Kikyo orders Mitsuba to refuse any request from his daughter, no matter what the request is. Because of this, Mitsuba and her lover Hasama, who was not around them at the time, were mysteriously crushed like minced meat simultaneously. Kirua explained that this was the consequence of saying "no" to Aruka's requests 4 times. Some time later, Yasuha, another servant of the Zoldik family, accepted Aruka's request that was a ride on her back at her request, thus activating her "wish-fulfilling" mode. Giving in to her greed at the time, Yasuha wishes Aruka to make her a billionaire. Aruka agrees and suddenly a large amount of banknotes started to rain down from an airship in the sky. It was later reported that the bills came from a money transport ship that had suddenly disappeared and by the time it was found, all the money was gone, and the captain and crew could not explain it, giving absurd answers. Irumi became interested in Aruka's power and asked Silva's permission to face Kasuga, the next maid, to take care of Aruka, in her own way. He told her to listen and accept Aruka's requests in exchange for her tolerance of his love relationship with a person outside the Zoldik family. When Kasuga was with Aruka, suddenly Aruka asked him for his liver, which Kasuga refused to give. Aruka made 3 requests for her intestine, her spine and her brain, respectively, all of which she also refused. As a result of Kasuga's refusal to meet these four requests, a total of 67 people, including her, died. It was drawn from this occurrence that Aruka's ability had a cumulative effect; the harder the previous wish was (in terms of difficulty of fulfillment), the more violent will be the consequences of an upcoming refusal of Aruka's wishes.

History

Aruka was introduced when Kirua came to Kukuru Mountain to see her. He asks his father's permission, but Silva doesn't agree, thinking it's too dangerous despite the fact that Kirua knows Aruka better than anyone in their family. After a long conversation, her father takes her to Aruka's room, which cannot be opened after entering a 10-digit password. Aruka enthusiastically welcomes Kirua when he enters the room, calling him "big brother." At first she wished Kirua would die for her. Then, she asked for him to come back to life and, finally, to give him a hug.

Thanks to a surveillance camera, Silva, Kikyô and Miruki watch everything from a surveillance room. Kikyo is delighted with Kirua's action but regrets that Miruki wanted a computer, which makes Aruka's will over Kirua so easy. This earns her a nasty look from her father. Silva then asks about the rules of Aruka's power. When Kirua decided to take Aruka with him, Silva disapproves and insists that she must not leave the room. Kirua wishes that if they are not able to leave the mountain together within 30 minutes, Kikyo will be killed. If yes, then Aruka will give Kirua a kiss on the cheek. Silva allows him to leave, but orders some butlers to accompany them, including Gotô, Kanaria, Tsubone and Amane. They are in a car that accompanies them to the hospital where Gon resides, when, suddenly, the car is crushed by a truck whose drivers have been manipulated by Irumi. Kirua protects Aruka, because if he moves one meter away from Aruka, she will be brought back home immediately. When Irumi and Hisoka look at the crushed car in a ditch from a distance, the assassin orders the latter to remove the butlers, or, if possible, to take Aruka away from Kirua. Using his Kanmuru ability, Kirua escapes from the butlers with ease but Tsubone follows him without his knowledge. Aruka asks Kirua if she is only an obstacle for him, but Kirua says that she is not and he will always be there for Aruka for anything. Kirua and Aruka continue to escape but are still followed by Tsubone. Kirua tries to escape faster using Kanmuru but Tsubone uses his ability which can catch up with Kanmuru's speed. The two Zoldiks reach the airport and get into an airship to escape from Irumi. Aruka is seen sleeping inside while Kirua drives the airship himself. He explains to Morau about Aruka's ability, which Morau thinks is a vaguely terrifying ability. When the airship they were in finally landed ,Kirua makes arrangements to continue their escape by car, only to find himself surrounded by Irumi and her manipulated needle people. He asked for Aruka to be handed over to him but Kirua refused directly. In the middle Tsubone appeared and revealed that it was his fault that they were followed by a hidden camera which was the request of their mother and Miruki, when he in turn sent the information to Irumi's phone. After seeing Tsubone, Aruka starts again her wishes where Aruka asked for her finger nails and the ring finger that end the three requests that could activate her faculty. Instead of using the will to get out of the situation they were in, Kirua uses the wish to heal Tsubone's hand to reveal to Irumi some rules he didn't know. Then, Aruka falls asleep. Nanika is considered by Kirua to be the most benevolent person he knows. Finally, Aruka wakes up and finds himself in Gon's room. Kirua asks her to turn into Nanika but Aruka refuses because she wants to stay with Kirua. Kirua begs Aruka. Finally, Aruka gives in and transforms into Nanika. Kirua asks Nanika to heal Gon, Nanika accepts and touches Gon's hand. As Nanika heals Gon, a huge energy comes from him, it is so powerful that the Hunters of the Hunters Association building believe that it is overpowering. Aruka successfully heals Gon and falls asleep.
