Boruto Uzumaki

Boruto Uzumaki is a shinobi of the Uzumaki clan of the hidden village of Konoha and also a direct descendant of the Hyuga clan through his mother. Although he initially resented his father and his absences since becoming Hokage, Boruto eventually came to respect his father and his obligations. Nevertheless, he vowed to become a shinobi like his mentor.

Hinata

History

Boruto was the first born of Naruto and Hinata's children, Himawari being the second, who was born two years later. Over the years, as his parents remained close to their childhood friends, Boruto came to know the respective children of the different parents well.

On the day Naruto was to be named Seventh Hokage, Himawari wanted to bring his stuffed panda to the ceremony, but Boruto, fearing that he would end up wearing it, tried to take it away from him. When the head of the toy was finally torn off in the ensuing tug-of-war, Himawari awakened his Byakugan and attacked Boruto in his anger, despite his vehement apology. Naruto, sensing her murderous intent, arrived and protected Boruto, only to be stunned as the attack landed on one of his tenketsu. Fearing what an attack capable of knocking out his father could do to him, Boruto tried to run away from Himawari, but she easily spotted him hiding in a closet. From that moment on, he swore to himself that he would never anger her again.

Boruto Uzumaki

Personality

Boruto is loud, energetic and stubborn, much like his father; he even has a speech tic, "dattebasa", similar to Naruto's "dattebayo" and his paternal grandmother's "(da)ttebane". However, compared to his father at his age, Boruto is more refined and cunning, seeming to know all the shortcuts, as well as more mature in the knowledge of how the world works. Compared to both, he is more sarcastic. Unlike Naruto, Boruto doesn't shout out what he feels, which is the biggest difference. Despite his casual attitude, he is very diligent. Conversely, Boruto's upbringing was also different from his father's: Boruto's family is always there for him, and he even has many friends, and his acquisitions came easily and naturally to him from a combination of prodigious talents and caring parents.

For these reasons, Boruto has a high opinion of himself and openly boasts about his abilities. Yet, his arrogance led him to not value teammates or teamwork, believing that he could do anything alone. He saw success as the main goal of everything, even taking dishonest shortcuts to achieve it, such as using a cheating program to win easily in a video game, or using a Shinobi Gauntlet to create the illusion of having performed an advanced technique to earn the right to be Sasuke's disciple, and later, he quickly resorted to the same device to defeat his opponents when they seemed to have the upper hand. After seeing how selfish and amoral it was to use such a tool, he gained a new respect for true hard work. At the same time, he didn't appreciate people who used such sophisticated tools at all, feeling that one should rely solely on one's natural skills. Upon meeting Ao, however, he understood that tools, no matter how advanced, are not inherently good or bad, but simply a means to an end that depends on the user. Also, seeing how such inventions could be used even by small animals, he came to appreciate the work of Katasuke Tôno.

Boruto Uzumaki

Despite his arrogance, he does not look down on others and is very loyal to his friends. Without hesitation, he came to Denki's aid on several occasions when he was physically injured. He also avoids confrontation, or name calling when someone talks behind his back, completely ignoring the situation unless his friends are hurt, which shows his maturity. Even when a friend turned out to be an enemy, he remained determined to help him get off the dark path he was on. He loves his mother and sister deeply - becoming indignant when either is hurt physically or emotionally. Despite his love for his little sister, Boruto is terrified of her and vows never to upset her again. Both Sasuke and Naruto pointed out that Boruto looked like them when they were younger, and that he did indeed show characteristics of both shinobi when they were younger, which led Naruto to declare that his son is completely different from both of them. For example, he used the same mischievous habits of Naruto to get attention and the desire for power of Sasuke, even using shortcuts. Like their parents, Boruto shares a complicated relationship with Sasuke's daughter, Sarada. The two are often at odds with each other, with the young Uchiwa enjoying the position of Hokage while Boruto disdains it completely. Despite this, Boruto cares about Sarada and her dream, as evidenced by the Chûnin Examinations, when he expressed his desire to win so as not to hinder Sarada's progress to become Hokage. Overall, Boruto's unwavering loyalty to his friends has continually proven to be a strong influence to all those around him, with many even noting that he became the foundation of his friends because he is determined to keep his friends together. Boruto is also against sacrificing others to ensure his own survival, as when Kawaki suggested he implant the Kama into someone to create his own vessel, Boruto was against this idea, even when Kawaki considered using Code, a fanatical worshiper of Isshiki Ôtsutsuki and a definite enemy of Boruto.

Although Boruto loves his father and enjoys spending time together, their relationship has been strained since Naruto became the Seventh Hokage. Due to the many responsibilities of the position that prevent Naruto from being present all the time, Boruto feels neglected and becomes resentful of the title of Hokage, seeing it only as a position that distances his father from him and declaring it (aware that Naruto grew up as an orphan) to be only suitable for those who have no relatives. Eventually, after being exposed to the complications of his father's life, Boruto comes to understand and forgive his father's busy schedule and stops trying to take the easy options in life.

Boruto Uzumaki

While at first, he only wanted to know about his father's past in order to outdo him, Boruto became genuinely curious about Naruto's history, and asked his father about his past, especially how he managed to become one of the strongest shinobi of all time, when he seemed to be completely hopeless at everything else. Since his fight with Momoshiki Ôtsutsuki, Boruto came to see his father in a new light, admiring both his power as a shinobi and his equally selfless nature in protecting the village. Eventually, he and Naruto were able to find common ground and have a healthy relationship again, with Naruto agreeing to show up more often in person while Boruto stopped demanding his father's time altogether, both openly pushing the other's agenda. Although he let go of his anger towards Naruto and his disdain for the title of Kage, and even came to respect his father and his great power as Hokage, Boruto made it clear that he had no intention of becoming Hokage. He chose to follow his own path, becoming a supporter of the Hokage, like his master.

Boruto likes hamburgers so much that he rushes to get a limited edition green chili burger on the last day of its release and sometimes has coupons for hamburgers. He notes that his favorite food is yakisoba pan. Boruto also has a love for spicy food, having a higher tolerance for their taste than his friends, who are usually sick of them. He also seems to enjoy drawing a lot, while seemingly unaware of his poor drawing skills. Despite this, Sai pointed out that Boruto had the potential to use the Ghostly Monsters' Web because of his passion for drawing. Boruto seems to be influenced by the famous movie character Kagemasa, as he imitates the hero's attitude while wearing a replica of the character's visor.

As a teenager, Boruto's personality had changed in total contrast to the one he had as a child; he is very calm and composed, even when challenged about his father's fate. Boruto referred to his younger self as a brat who didn't take being a ninja seriously, heavily implying that the older version of Boruto radically.

Apparence

Boruto has blond hair with spikes, blue eyes and two whiskers on each cheek. In general, he looks a lot like his father, but he also inherited his mother's facial features, such as the shape of her face and eyes. Boruto's haircut resembles a leaf, with his ahoge (アホ毛, Literally meaning: stupid hair) serving as a stem. According to Sarada, his eyes are bluer than Naruto's.

At the age of 5, Boruto wore a black sports jacket with a red fire symbol on the left side of the chest, a bolt-like symbol on the back and red stripes along the sides of his pants. At the beginning of his time as a student at the Academy, his outfit was almost similar to his previous outfit, with extra red stripes on his jacket. Under his jacket - which he leaves open - he wears a T-shirt and a bolt attached to a string that he wears like a necklace. He wears a longer jacket, with the Uzushio symbol on the back, since he is a genin and a belt in the manga, but otherwise his outfit has remained the same, except for the addition of his forehead band and a dark pink Uzumaki clan symbol on the back instead of the bolt.

Moreover, in the manga Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, we see Boruto wearing a small black elastic band around his left ankle. He also wears a similar black elastic around his left wrist. Boruto also wore his father's original orange jacket for a short time, with Sasuke's striped headband. After Momoshiki made contact with his arm, Boruto obtained the Kama, a black diamond-shaped seal, in the palm of his right hand. While in the past, Boruto wore a red vest, a gray long sleeve and short pants as a disguise. In the anime, on Sasuke's order, Boruto started wearing a mitt on his right hand to hide the Kama. After the defeat of Isshiki Ôtsutsuki, Boruto started wearing Sasuke's forehead band again.

At the age of 16, Boruto has a large scar over his right eye and a cursed seal appeared on his right arm, which when activated glows blue and covers part of his hand and the right side of his body. He wears a belt with black pants, the usual shinobi sandals and a coat. He also wears a headband with two blade marks on it.

Boruto Uzumaki

Skills

A product of his two powerful bloodlines, Boruto is a prodigy, considered capable of accomplishing anything he sets his mind to in a remarkably short time. Having inherited his paternal grandfather's genius and his father's unpredictability, he earned the highest score in his class at the Genin Examinations, and is considered to be far above the rest of his generation with shun level prowess. As a genin, Boruto is considered an elite who excels in all areas of combat. His prowess has been crucial in defeating formidable opponents, including Momoshiki, Urashiki and members of Kara. His potential is also considered a threat to the Ôtsutsuki clan.

Chakra and physical prowess

Inheriting his father's vast reserves of chakra, Boruto is able to create four shadow clones even after having much of his chakra absorbed. He also strongly inherited the power of the Ôtsutsuki, and because he possesses the blood of a Byakugan user, he was able to communicate with the dead spirit of Momoshiki Ôtsutsuki. His chakra control is notably advanced, as he was able to perform one-handed mudras and use Rasengan effectively after only a few days of training before he instinctively refined and improved the technique.

Boruto is particularly fast, able to move quickly behind his opponents without being noticed. Boruto proved to be quite adept at taijutsu, able to carry out relentless assaults through coordinated strikes from each of his limbs. As a descendant of the Hyuga clan, he learned the basic use of Juken, although without Byakugan, he could not target an enemy's tenketsu. He also possesses considerable strength, capable of launching strikes powerful enough to break the ground.

Ninjutsu

Before entering the Academy, Boruto could create several shadow clones, able to coordinate his attacks with his clones to make a shunin or even a jonin difficult. Initially, Boruto needed his clones to be within sight for them to work. He also learned the various sexy techniques from his father. Although he failed at first when learning the Rasengan, Boruto later learned to create a smaller version of it between the two hands under Konohamaru's guidance, and then to grow it to a normal size using only one hand. When he went to Ryuchi Cave, he signed a contract with Garaga, allowing him to summon the giant snake whenever he wanted. In the same way, he also became related to the snakes, able to befriend any snake to help him. He can also perform cooperative ninjutsu and fûinjutsu, able to use both to restrict a person's movements and increase the power of the attack alongside other users present at his side.

Boruto has some kenjutsu skills, as he effectively wielded a new prototype Chakra Blade and was able to effectively wield half of Hiramekarei. Later on, he proved to be proficient in using a standard katana as his preferred method of fighting. Through training with Sasuke, he became very skilled in shurikenjutsu, able to alter the trajectory of a weapon in mid-air and cover his shuriken with Raiton.

Nature of chakra

Boruto can use several kinds of chakra, including Raiton as an affinity. As a student of the academy, Boruto could simultaneously perform Raiton and Futeon for techniques like Boruto Stream. As a genin, he learned to use Suiton, for techniques like Suiton - Himatsudan. When he learned Rasengan for the first time, he unconsciously infused Raiton chakra (Futeon in the novel) into it, a feat that not even the most prodigious shinobi could accomplish. When the technique is launched, the chakra nature suddenly activates, making it invisible and causing the opponent to lower his guard and causing enough damage by coming into contact with the target. In the anime, after training under Kakashi, Boruto learned to execute the Swirling Orb with the help of a shadow clone, only capable of throwing it like a projectile. However, his Futon Swirling Orb is incomplete, lacking the power to do much more damage compared to the normal Swirling Orb, as Kakashi pointed out.

Boruto Uzumaki

Kâma

After defeating Momoshiki, Boruto's right hand was forcibly marked with a four-pointed black diamond seal. Reputed to have similar properties to Orochimaru's Juinjutsu, it is a genetic backup of the Ôtsutsuki that unconsciously allows Boruto to access Momoshiki's powers. His mere presence on Boruto makes him potentially capable of surpassing his father Naruto, who is widely recognized as the strongest shinobi in history. According to Isshiki, Boruto has a rare compatibility with the mark, which allowed him to instinctively develop and synchronize with it at an accelerated rate, and he progressed tremendously in the short time after obtaining the mark.

Once activated, the mark stretches and expands to cover his entire arm and the right side of his face in a series of elegant lines. In doing so, it greatly increases his physical abilities and also allows Boruto to absorb virtually any ninjutsu or energy-based target. In addition, Boruto can produce a dimensional portal to other realities. Originally, he could not access the mark willingly and it cost him a lot of chakra, but Kawaki taught him how to use it more effectively. Even without proper training, Boruto was finally able to use the power of the mark without much difficulty, which even Isshiki found surprising. Isshiki noted that Boruto's body, being so naturally compatible with the mark, will allow the Divine Tree to produce very high quality Chakra Fruits.

Despite its beneficial powers, the mark is actually dangerous to Boruto's existence, as gradually Boruto's entire being is rewritten as Momoshiki, and the latter would eventually be reborn from Boruto's body. When he is drained of enough chakra or injured to the point of fainting, his Kama causes Momoshiki's consciousness and personality to fully manifest, allowing him to take control of Boruto's body and fight on his behalf, gaining access to Boruto's knowledge and skills in addition to his own. In this state, a flat horn emerges from the right side of Boruto's forehead, curving slightly upwards and backwards. His right eye also becomes a Byakugan. His physical strength and speed increase dramatically, so much so that he can effortlessly destroy Boro's right arm after his mutation and send his monstrous form crashing down with a series of kicks. Momoshiki's manifestation gains the ability to fly and greatly enhances Boruto's techniques, able to unleash a massive Swirling Orb of the same magnitude as the Parent and Child Swirling Orb. Boruto's contact with Kawaki, who is carrying Isshiki's Kama, created a resonance that accelerated the speed at which the two receptacles took control.

Dôjutsu

Jôgan

At the age of eight, Boruto began to unconsciously activate the Jôgan in his right eye, prompted by a prophetic dream given by Toneri Ôtsutsuki and the appearance of Nue. Originally, the eye was only instinctively activated in times of great threat, as it remained dormant for a long time until facing Momoshiki Ôtsutsuki. However, later, at the age of 16, he was able to activate it by his own will. This dôjutsu gives him the ability to detect things usually invisible to the naked eye. He can perceive the flow of chakra, allowing Boruto to see visible changes in his chakra and also to follow a target through his chakra. He can also see the chakra's circulatory system and its key points, and see through the invisible barriers that connect dimensions.

Intelligence

Although usually carefree to the point of being perceived as lazy, Boruto is a very perceptive individual who excels at reading the situation and adapting. Although he resembles his father, he shows remarkable ingenuity with the Multi-Cloning technique for complex strategies, but he shows it more subtly since he is limited to four clones. While preferring a more direct overall approach to combat, he adapts to various complex feints and misdirections, which allowed him to get the better of Iwabee and even Momoshiki's likes. He also adapts to exploiting the flaws and weaknesses, both his own and those of his enemies, that are central to his fights. He was shown to be able to perfectly solve the problems put forward by his own methods. Inojin claimed that he has a knack for this. Moreover, he was the only student in his class to pass the written exercise of the final exams without cheating, getting a perfect score. Boruto is also effective at using the abilities of others to create a strategy, making the most of the skills of his allies. His cunning in battle was even able to deceive and eventually defeat Ao, a famous jonin and veteran of Kiri village with decades of experience and powerful cybernetic weapons.

New Era

Arc Combat against Momoshiki

In the anime, after completing a close protection mission, Boruto felt frustrated because two shinobi were judging him for being the son of the Hokage. Remembering that Naruto did not show up for his birthday party, he went to the Ninjutsu Research Center where Katasuke gave him a belated birthday present. Back home, Boruto promised Himawari that he would make sure Naruto attended his next birthday party. When the team received their next assignment, Konohamaru reviewed it before getting ready to leave in an hour. While waiting, Boruto ran into Naruto, who apologized for not coming home for his birthday the other day. Declaring that he didn't care, Boruto made Naruto promise that he would be home for Himawari. While traveling to their destination by train, the team was informed that one of the thieves they had been ordered to capture was already being held prisoner in the village. Learning that the criminal's associates had all been killed in the nearby mine, Team 7 ventured there to investigate, during which they were attacked by a White Zetsu. Using Konohamaru's strategy, the team eliminated the Zetsu. As they went deeper into the ruins of the Ôtsutsuki clan, they found decomposing White Zetsu, as well as a group of Zetsu that had died from burning, which prompted Konohamaru to tell them that it was Sasuke's doing. After Naruto was informed of the news, Konohamaru discussed the discovery with his clone, which annoyed Boruto because they were left in the dark about the situation.

Several months after graduation, while on a mission to catch a rampaging bear, Konohamaru tested his Shinobi Gauntlet. Boruto was very intrigued by the device. Later, while reporting to Naruto the successful capture of the bear, Boruto boasted that he could have accomplished the mission alone. Naruto tried to lecture him on the importance of teamwork, which Boruto felt he didn't need to learn from him since they never spent time together. Rather than continue the argument, Boruto reminded Naruto that it was Himawari's birthday and warned him not to forget it before storming out. Sarada and Mitsuki met Boruto in a restaurant to give him an application for the next Chûnin Exams, which Konohamaru thought they should register for. Boruto didn't show much interest despite the fact that they all had to register as a team and went back to playing his video game with Shikadai and Inojin, before running into Hinata and Himawari and going home to celebrate his sister's birthday. Their party was cut short by the disappearance of Naruto's shadow clone, which made Boruto angry that his father didn't bother to come to Himawari's birthday.

When he heard a knock on the front door, he opened it and threw a punch, thinking it was his father coming in, but in the end it was Sasuke who intercepted the attack. Looking for Naruto, Sasuke left. Soon after, Boruto approached him and asked Sasuke to make him his disciple, which Sasuke agreed to on the condition that Boruto master the Swirling Orb. Afterwards, Boruto went to Konohamaru and asked him to teach him the Whirling Orb, which Konohamaru eagerly accepted. They began training the next day. He eventually learned to create a Swirling Orb by himself after several days of hard training. He demonstrated it to Sasuke, who pointed out that his Swirling Orb was small. Boruto mistakenly assumed that this meant that Sasuke was rejecting his request, so he borrowed the Shinobi Gauntlet from its inventor, Katasuke, in order to be able to instantly create full-sized Swirling Orbs. Boruto demonstrated "his" Swirling Orb to Sasuke again. Although Sasuke noticed the Shinobi Gauntlet, he said nothing and agreed to train Boruto, during which he learned shurikenjutsu and his father's past. After their training and wishing to stand out in the Chûnin Examinations, Boruto was persuaded by Katsuke to illegally use a Shinobi Gauntlet in the matches.

On the day of the first test, the competing teams were asked a question that had to be answered true or false. When Boruto and his team chose their answer, they were thrown into a pit. Boruto, thinking that this meant they had failed, made no effort to save himself. Sarada and Mitsuki prevented him from falling into the ink at the bottom of the pit, which was the real purpose of the first trial and allowed them to move on to the second trial. Naruto sent a congratulatory e-mail to Boruto when he heard the news; Boruto was upset that Naruto didn't send at least one shadow clone instead. Three days later, in the second event, the teams competed in capture-the-flag games. While Sarada and Mitsuki went off to capture the other team's flag, Boruto defended his own, believing that he and his four shadow clones would give him an advantage over the other three team members. When the Three Senka Brothers made two shadow clones each, Boruto was quickly outnumbered and his flag was almost captured. Although initially reluctant, he eventually used the Shinobi Gauntlet to perform a combination of elemental attacks] to defeat them, allowing Boruto's team to advance to the finals. While Boruto was recovering at home, Naruto visited him in person to tell him that he was proud of him and encouraged him not to lose to Shikadai. Boruto noticed afterwards that Naruto's brief words could have been put in an email, but he was nevertheless moved to tears by his father who came to see him.

Boruto Uzumaki

On the day of the final event, the competing genin had to compete in a series of one-on-one tournament battles, with Boruto facing Yurui. Unable to fight him, Boruto used his Shinobi Gauntlet to defeat Yurui. Then, Boruto faced Shikadai, where after being surprised by his shadow, he relied on the use of his Shinobi Gauntlet to pressure Shikadai into surrendering. While in the manga, Naruto noticed that Boruto was cheating and subsequently disqualified him from the tournament, in the anime, his cheating went unnoticed, allowing him to reach the finals against Sarada and Shinki. During the match, despite teaming up with Sarada against Shinki, their opponent managed to defeat Sarada, before Boruto used his Shinobi Gauntlet to overpower Shinki's Iron Sandstone to win. Noticing Boruto's use of the tool, Naruto disqualified Boruto from the tournament and stripped him of his ninja status.

Attacking his father for his actions, the place was attacked by Momoshiki and Kinshiki Ôtsutsuki who were looking for Naruto. Attacking Momoshiki in a panic with his Shinobi Gauntlet, all his techniques were absorbed, before Naruto came back to save him and regrouped with Sarada and Sasuke. Momoshiki then launched a volley of elemental techniques at the group, which Naruto blocked with the help of Kurama. Naruto asked Sasuke to concentrate on protecting Boruto and Sarada while he fought Momoshiki, during which Boruto called out to him before he passed out from Momoshiki's massive attack. Waking up in the hospital, he learned that Naruto had been captured, and ran to the Hokage Office, where he put on his father's old jacket and felt guilty about his attitude towards him. He was then approached by Sasuke, who invited Boruto to save his father. Accompanied by the Four Kage, the group left through Sasuke's portal.

Upon arriving at Momoshiki's Planet, the Kage freed Naruto and engaged in a battle with Kinshiki and Momoshiki. Seeing Boruto, Naruto tried to apologize for not being around more, but Boruto replied that it was okay, although he asked that Naruto start talking to him about when he was younger instead of lecturing him. Naruto joined the fight and Momoshiki, despite absorbing Kinshiki to try to get the upper hand, was defeated. However, Katasuke arrived to help and attacked Momoshiki with the Shinobi Gauntlet, inadvertently regenerating him and allowing him to capture the Kage. With Sasuke's encouragement, Boruto attacked Momoshiki with his small Swirling Orb, forcing him to free the Kage. Naruto was impressed that Boruto was able to master the Swirling Orb and, still unable to move, added his own chakra to Boruto's Swirling Orb, making it gigantic. Sasuke helped Boruto place a shadow clone close enough to Momoshiki to blind his Rinnegan with a kunai, preventing him from absorbing Boruto's Swirling Orb and leaving him unable to dodge it, killing Momoshiki. However, while investigating the remains of the Divine Tree, Momoshiki reappeared in front of Boruto, freezing time for everyone but himself and Boruto to give Boruto a cryptic warning that anyone who defeated a god ceased to be a normal person and then marked him with a seal on his palm. When Momoshiki vanished into mist, time resumed for everyone and they returned to Konoha.

In the anime, Boruto and Himawari shared a late birthday dinner, with Naruto even appearing in person instead of sending a shadow clone. After Boruto punched Naruto in the face, thinking he was a shadow clone, Naruto began to scold him, while Himawari asked to take a ride on his back. Hinata maintained the order by threatening to throw the cake. A few days later, Boruto's life saw many changes at home: he started a video game again with an untampered character, even though it made the game more difficult; Naruto was home more often and Boruto supported him in his grueling schedule; Boruto, despite being caught cheating on the Chûnin Exams, became a minor celebrity due to his role in helping with the previous crisis, doing the same kind of interviews his father sometimes did. Boruto no longer had any disdain for the title of Hokage, although he still didn't want to become one. Instead, he decided to support Sarada in his dream of becoming Hokage, just like Sasuke supported Naruto. Mitsuki found the whole discussion about their parents interesting but insisted that Naruto and Sasuke had nothing to do with his parent: Orochimaru. Sarada was shocked at first, then wondered if Orochimaru was Mitsuki's mother or father, while Boruto, increasingly frustrated that Mitsuki and Sarada ignored his question, demanded to know who Orochimaru was. At one point, Boruto told Sasuke about the seal he had on the palm of his hand, to which Sasuke responded by telling Boruto to be on his guard.

Arc Starting up Kara

In the anime, as Boruto was getting impatient to know how to deal with Kara and her Kama, Sasuke approached him and asked him to keep his mark hidden at all times so as not to attract attention. Later, Boruto and his team were assigned to work with Mugino to find Anato, a missing researcher in the Land of Valleys. After meeting the missing man's wife and learning about the village's large medical company, they were able to sneak to the last known location of Anato's team. There, they were intercepted by Victor and his guards who were also looking for Anato. Joining forces, Team 7 found Anato, whose body had been altered into a malleable state and attacked them without thinking. Unable to restrain him, Victor's men overpowered him. Considering the act cruel, Victor insisted there was no alternative. With their mission technically over, the Konoha ninjas decided to return to Konoha. On the way, Mitsuki fell ill and her body suffered the same symptoms as Anato's. Mugino brought them to Yubina. The doctor was able to treat Mitsuki, and determined that during the fight against Anato, Mitsuki had been infected by Hashirama Senju's cells. Revealing that there had been other cases like this, Yubina informed the shinobi that there was a rumor that the black market in the Land of Silence was selling the cells.

Leaving Mitsuki to recover, the team infiltrated Tobari Village in search of the item. There, they learned that a worker from Victor's company had come by several weeks ago with Hashirama's cells before suddenly disappearing. They also heard rumors that there was a man in the area who had ties to Hashirama's cells. He was a missing ninja named Kirisaki, who had unique medical ninjutsu skills. Boruto managed to capture him, which led Konohamaru to disguise himself by taking the appearance of the deserted ninja. Joined by Boruto pretending to be his assistant, they met a butler who had been infected by the cells in order to test the skills of "Kirisaki". After the man collapsed, Konohamaru reluctantly used the antibodies that Yubina had acquired from Mitsuki to cure the man. The man turned out to be a butler of Sakuya. Sakuya wanted to use Hashirama's cells on herself thinking, wrongly, that they would allow her to live forever and, moreover, to find her youth and her beauty of former days. At Fushu Castle, Boruto was suddenly held hostage, where the butler wanted to see the process for himself of how "Kirisaki" would stabilize Hashirama's cells using Boruto. Konohamaru was able to buy time while Boruto slipped away to retrieve the target, as it was a shadow clone that was being held. When he found Sakuya's apartment, he discovered that she had been murdered and the cells were gone. A group of quadruplet ninjas revealed that they had stolen the cells and framed Boruto for the murder while they retreated from the castle.

When Boruto and Konohamaru joined Sarada and Mujino, everyone in the town began to hunt them down, hoping to get a reward for their capture. Aided by Katara, the duo escaped to a base, where the shinobi found Mitsuki, who had fully recovered. Learning from Katara's network who the real killers were, the genin separated from the jonin to find their targets, during which they were attacked by Omoi, Kakui and Marui. The Kumo shinobi, who assumed that the genin had the cells, questioned them about it. Mugino and Konohamaru quickly returned and cleared things up, and after explaining the situation, the groups worked together to hunt down the culprits. On the way, they were intercepted by Deepa, who was also looking for Hashirama's cells. The Omoï team decided to deal with the new threat while the Konoha ninjas moved on. Intercepting Yuga, the team bypassed his jutsu and caught up with Hiruga. Held up by his swamp, Omoi arrived and informed everyone that a man named Deepa had killed his allies and was on his way to the Land of Mist to retrieve Hashirama's cells. Worried about his last remaining brother, Hiruga cancelled his technique and rushed to find his brother, urging the shinobi of Konoha to follow him.

After catching up with Hiruga's older brother, Asaka, he had to be convinced that Hiruga was indeed him and that there was a new threat. Before a truce could be reached, Deepa arrived and quickly slaughtered the remaining quadruplets. Boruto was furious and attacked the man, but his kunai bounced off Deepa's body without causing any damage.
Due to the seriousness of Boruto and Sarada's injuries, Mitsuki took them to Yubina, who stabilized their condition. Soon after, Konohamaru and Mugino brought them back to Konoha for further treatment, also taking Mitsuki to Orochimaru for treatment. After successfully undergoing surgery, Boruto remained ashamed of his defeat against Deepa. Despite this, three days later, Boruto was able to get back up and committed to becoming stronger. His goal was to evolve his Swirling Orb, but with Konohamaru on a mission and Naruto too busy, Boruto turned to Kakashi for help. The retired Hokage quickly told him that mastering the Giant Swirling Orb, Boruto's goal, was impossible because he didn't have enough chakra for it. Instead, Kakashi made him work on applying the nature of chakra to his Whirling Orbs, especially the Futeon. Since Boruto's jutsu consistently failed, he expressed his desire to see how powerful and experienced Kakashi was at his age. Kakashi pointed out the hardships he had to endure, and envied Boruto for growing up in a peaceful time with loved ones, so he was not alone. This inspired Boruto to use a shadow clone to apply the chakra nature to the Swirling Orb, succeeding in using the Futton - Swirling Orb, which impressed Kakashi.

Although Boruto had almost completed his new technique, Boruto concluded that the power gain was still not enough to deal with Deepa's super dense body. Kakashi pointed out that with his current level of chakra, he had reached his limit to improve the Swirling Orb. However, Boruto refused to give up and continued to train. Later, Boruto was approached by Shikadai, whose team had recently faced Deepa as well. While Boruto expressed his anger at Deepa, Shikadai was concerned that Boruto was becoming obsessed with Deepa. Boruto, however, insisted that it wasn't a matter of a wounded ego, but rather that he saw Deepa as an obstacle to his progress as a ninja. After realizing that Boruto would not try to chase Deepa away, Shikadai and his teammates decided to help him train. Shikadai decided to focus his Swirling Orb on a single point for Boruto's training to improve his penetrating power. As the day ended and little progress had been made, Shikadai and Boruto began to discuss the unique nature of Deepa's power, as it was the arrangement and pressure of carbon molecules. This suddenly gave Boruto inspiration. The next day, Boruto managed to destroy a huge rock with his Swirling Orb. He reported his progress to Kakashi. Deciding to put Boruto to the test, Kakashi arranged for Boruto to fight Shojoji in a police building, thinking that the inmate would be the perfect opponent to test Boruto's progress.

At the beginning of the fight, Boruto's skills matched Shojoji's, but his wind-based counters proved to be too powerful, even against Boruto's Swirling Orb. He was able to overcome Shojoji's defenses and quickly defeated him. He was able to overcome Shojoji's defenses and quickly defeated him. While Kakashi congratulated Boruto for coming up with a backup plan to condense his Swirling Orb instead of making it grow, Boruto collapsed, his long hours of training having exhausted him. Later, while recovering in the hospital, Boruto was greeted by Kakashi. He applauded Boruto's accomplishments, but warned him about the dangers of his new technique. Noting that the Compressed Swirling Orb was accompanied by a powerful recoil that could cause great strain on his arm, it was not a technique that Boruto should use often. While accepting Kakashi's words, Boruto was still determined to refine the technique. After leaving the hospital, he met Sarada, whose training under his parents was going well. Having both reached a new level, they felt it was time to return to the Land of Valleys to return Anato's ring to Mia. Having already obtained her father's approval to leave, the two men set off.

Back in the Land of Valleys, they met Mia and gave her Anato's ring. They also learned that Victor had reported to Mia that Anato had been killed by enemies who were trying to steal their research. Realizing that Victor was using Anato for his own benefit, Boruto decided to reveal the truth about Victor's goals, despite Sarada's protests. Suddenly, there was an earthquake in the company's main building. Boruto and Sarada decided to go and investigate. There, they found Konohamaru struggling to defend himself against the vicious attack of the recreated Divine Tree. As they helped their sansei, he explained that the Divine Tree had not been seen since the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Victor then approached, explaining that he had taken fragments of the dead Divine Tree after the end of the war, feeding them with Hashirama's cells and various test subjects. He expressed his joy that the people of the Land of Valleys would be consumed by the Divine Tree to produce Chakra Fruits. Victor collapsed the floor around Boruto and Sarada, sending them to the floor below. There they were approached by Deepa. Sarada and Boruto were determined to stop her once and for all.

Despite the progress they had made, Deepa's carbon powers were proving to be more infallible than ever. Boruto realized that their only hope was his new Compressed Swirling Orb. Needing time to train it, he asked Sarada to distract him, but she couldn't hold out long enough. Suddenly, Boruto was saved by the timely arrival of Mitsuki who had recovered. With Team 7 reunited, Boruto was able to launch his new Swirling Orb. However, as it proved to be able to overpower Deepa's solid body, Deepa activated his last defense to form a powerful armor, pushing Boruto back. Boruto refused to despair and attacked again, aided by his friends who donated their chakra and formed a Super Compressed Swirling Orb, which broke through Deepa's defense and defeated him. Meanwhile, Orochimaru destroyed the Divine Tree and defeated Victor. While Mia promised to testify against the company's actions, Team 7 was proud of their victory. Back in the village, while Boruto was still nursing his injured hand, he and his friends found Denki setting up an experiment to improve radio communications. Boruto and the others decided to help him in his work. The experiment finally worked, but failed to maintain stability. Denki remained determined to improve the technology. Boruto joined the others in applauding.

Kawaki Bow

As the team examined Kawaki's body, Boruto's Kama became painful. Seeing Kawaki suddenly in pain as well, Boruto wondered if they were feeling the same pain. Regaining consciousness, the team dodged the shock wave caused by Kawaki. Refusing to give them any information about the crashed airship, Boruto showed Kawaki his Kama, which made him think that the team was pursuing Kara. As Boruto tried to correct him, their conversation was interrupted by Garô, who was fighting Kawaki. Boruto wanted to help him, but Konohamaru insisted that the new variables in this mission raised the danger level to S, which meant that they had to act with caution. Suddenly, Boruto's Kama activated again, causing Boruto to die. At the same time, Kawaki's own Kama activated, giving him new energy and set about killing Garo. Boruto activated his own mark, using it to absorb the shock wave and protect his teammates. Seeing this, Kawaki was more convinced than ever that they were with Kara, before fainting.

Upon examining the boy, Katasuke realized that Kawaki was in fact the result of unprecedented ninja technology, as his entire being was modified. It was decided that they would take Kawaki to Naruto. In the anime, while Konohamaru went to report to the Hokage, Team 7 took Kawaki back to the research institute for examination. Kawaki eventually escaped from the institute, prompting Naruto to intervene and subdue the stranger. In Konoha, Boruto continued to wonder how his mark was related to Kawaki's. In the anime, during this period, he continued to take care of Mugino's turtle. Seeing that it had taken a liking to Konohamaru, Boruto agreed to let Konohamaru adopt the pet of his late friend. Later, when he returned home, he discovered that Kawaki had started to live at home under Naruto's supervision. Boruto noticed that the vase made by Himawari was broken and learned that Kawaki was responsible for it, which made him face him angrily. Although openly indifferent to Boruto's anger, he gruffly apologized for his unintentional actions and finally came forward.

The next day, Boruto and Kawaki began to get on each other's nerves, quickly coming to blows, which eventually activated their Kama. Before the fight could escalate any further, Naruto interrupted them. Later, as Boruto was preparing to leave for his next mission, Kawaki approached him and asked Boruto how he had acquired his Kama. He told him about Momoshiki, and in turn asked Kawaki about his, and was horrified that someone would unscrupulously sacrifice countless children in order to score one in the person of Kawaki. Thinking that Boruto would be a target of Kara's as well, and that he also wanted to remove his own Kama, he offered to cooperate with Boruto to get rid of their marks, speculating that once he succeeded, Kara would leave them in peace. Boruto considered this proposal, but still wouldn't forgive him for breaking Himawari's vase, and told him to make it up to her. Later, Naruto proposed to do some sparring with Boruto, which Boruto was eager to do. Kawaki insisted that Boruto should try to use his Kama, because understanding his power would be the first step to making it disappear. Knowing that Boruto still couldn't activate it at will, Kawaki activated his so that Boruto's would respond accordingly. Naruto approved of his son's use of it and quickly showed a considerable improvement in his performance. Afterwards, although Boruto still lost, Naruto applauded his son for his recent progress, which Boruto was happy to hear. Later, Kawaki gave up on the idea of fixing the vase, which caused Boruto to yell at him. Immediately afterwards, he asked Kawaki to teach him Kama because he wanted to master it a little, which led to them training together. After that, Boruto had a vision of Momoshiki and asked Kawaki if he had seen anything, which he didn't.

Meanwhile, Naruto was informed by Ino that someone had infiltrated the village. Naruto told Boruto to take Himawari and run away but before he could do so, Delta arrived in front of them. As Delta and Naruto exchanged words, Boruto took Kawaki's fearful attitude as proof of Delta's abilities. Naruto asked him to look after Himawari before he faced Delta. Fearing for his father's safety, Boruto recklessly threw his Disappearing Swirling Orb at her, who quickly absorbed the attack to recharge her energy. Choosing a new tactic, Delta then launched her beam at Himawari, knowing that it would inevitably hit someone, whether it was her target or the Hokage serving as her daughter's human shield. However, to everyone's surprise, it was Kawaki who blocked the beam, at the cost of his right arm, which shocked Boruto. After Naruto defeated Delta, Kawaki began to open up more to Boruto, who introduced him to his friends. From there, Boruto and his friends began to teach him how to play Extreme: Shinobi Image Scrolls, at which point Kawaki gave Boruto an extremely rare Fourth Hokage card in exchange for a Seventh Hokage card. Boruto and his friends also began to teach him ninjutsu when he became interested in it. While training with Kawaki, he quickly understood the basic concepts of chakra control. Kawaki revealed a little more about Jigen, revealing that he was the one who had modified his body and given him his Kama, and that he was someone they would inevitably have to fight. Boruto supported Kawaki, even calling him "brother".

Later, Boruto rushed home with Mitsuki when his Kama inadvertently activated, sensing that something bad had happened to Kawaki. He was even more worried when his mark suddenly retracted again. When Boruto and Mitsuki arrived, asking what had happened, Kawaki explained that Jigen had appeared and taken Naruto. Kawaki was then suddenly overpowered by Shikamaru's Shadow Manipulation. Noting openly his distrust of Kawaki, Shikamaru asked a team of ninjas to use a barrier to lock down the area while he interrogated Kawaki. Although Boruto vouched for him, Kawaki did not resist Shikamaru's growing suspicion. Kawaki then noticed that his prosthetic arm was reacting, which made him realize that Naruto was still alive. By synchronizing his Kama with Boruto's, they were able to produce a rift. While Shikamaru refused to let anyone enter the rift, Kawaki used his Kama to escape Shikamaru's technique while he and the genin entered the rift to get to Naruto's location. On the other side, they met Boro, who was keeping a pot with Naruto sealed inside. As they fought against him, Boro endured all the attacks.

After regenerating, Boruto and Mitsuki fought Boro to help Kawaki, but the enemy regenerated several times. As Kawaki joined the assault, resisting Boro's counterattack on the tired children, Sarada finally took action. Having learned from Kawaki that Boro's unlimited regeneration required a special core in his body, she struck with her Thousand Birds. After successfully removing the core, Boro's body began to mutate without its stabilizer. With Kawaki's help, Boruto was able to use their Kama to create a crack in the seal and release Naruto unconscious. While the children dealt with the Hokage, Boro calmed down enough to attack, knocking down Mitsuki. While the others were quickly overwhelmed by Boro's massive form, Boruto's mark evolved again, causing Momoshiki's will and personality to manifest while showing a massive increase in power to fight Boro. Taking complete control of Boruto's body, Momoshiki annihilated Boro with a gigantic Swirling Orb. As the Kama deactivated, Momoshiki warned Boruto that it was not yet time for him to lose everything, leaving Boruto unconscious and falling from the sky. He was caught by Mitsuki and examined, and when he woke up he didn't remember Momoshiki's appearance.

After the team returned to Konoha with Naruto, they were all taken to the hospital for treatment. There, Boruto and his family were delighted to see Naruto make a full recovery. In the anime, Kawaki informed Boruto of his unintentional metamorphosis against Boro, noting that he too had suffered a similar episode against Jigen. Later, Team 7 joined Konoha officials to discuss recent events. They learned that Kara had a Júbi stored in a separate dimension. Kawaki also revealed that each member of Kara had been modified with an advanced Shinobi Artifact to perform remarkable abilities without ninjutsu. When Amado was taken in for questioning about his request for asylum in Konoha, Boruto sat in on his interrogation, learning more about the nature of the Ôtsutsuki, the Kâma, and the threat they posed to him of having his being and his will crushed by Momoshiki's.

During the interrogation, Amado's glasses suddenly projected a fight between Koji and the weakened Jigen. Boruto witnessed the fight and Jigen's death, which caused Kawaki's Kama to disappear while Jigen's was fully activated, much to Boruto's surprise. After Amado explained that this meant that Isshiki had been resurrected by Jigen's body and had officially become a citizen of Konoha, the man explained that Isshiki's resurrection was unstable and that he would look for Kawaki again to mark him again. Boruto insisted on fighting alongside his father and mentor against him, but both refused. Before they could settle their dispute, they were alerted to Isshiki's arrival in the village. Despite the threat, Sasuke agreed to Boruto's request, and gave the genin his old headband.Boruto Uzumaki

On the battlefield, as Isshiki's power began to overwhelm Naruto and destroy the village, Sasuke threw his sword at Isshiki. When he failed to reduce it, it turned out to be Boruto. Boruto activated his Kama and teleported himself and Isshiki to another dimension. Sasuke and Naruto quickly followed Boruto, and started to fight Isshiki. Isshiki grabbed Boruto, and informed that his transformation by his Kama was about 80% complete. Sasuke saved Boruto by switching places with him. Then, Isshiki tackled Sasuke to the ground (trying to crush him with his cubes in the anime) and wanted to kill him, but Boruto interfered, which made Isshiki hesitate, and Boruto concluded that Isshiki could not kill him. As Isshiki tried to deny his claims, Boruto revealed what he had learned from Boro during their fight, which meant that Isshiki needed Boruto alive. Boruto threatened to kill himself with a kunai if Isshiki didn't back down. But Isshiki quickly pulled the kunai out of Boruto's hands and overpowered him. Isshiki explained to him that once Boruto had completely transformed into Otsutsuki, he would be given as food to Jubi so that he could become a Divine Tree. Suddenly, Naruto hit Isshiki before he released his last chance strategy by transforming into his new form. As Boruto struggled to continue watching Naruto fight Isshiki alone, Boruto fainted from his injuries. As Isshiki managed to teleport Kawaki to their location, Momoshiki took control of Boruto's body, during which the combined effort of Naruto and Kawaki led to Isshiki's death.

When Naruto lost consciousness, Momoshiki was able to impale Sasuke's Rinnegan. After a fight, Kawaki and Sasuke managed to bring Boruto's personality back by forcing Momoshiki to absorb more chakra. While still disoriented, Boruto prevented Momoshiki from teleporting with Kawaki, and broke his horn, causing his Kama to regress. As he collapsed exhausted, he apologized for the trouble to Kawaki, who apologized in return. Boruto was alerted by Naruto's sudden loss of consciousness. After checking his father's condition, Naruto quickly woke up, revealing that the use of Baryon Mode was at the cost of Kurama's death inside him, draining Naruto of chakra and kitune powers. With Sasuke's Rinnegan and Kawaki's Kama gone, it was Boruto's turn to use his mark to bring everyone back. Boruto was afraid that Momoshiki would reappear. This prompted Kawaki to speak bluntly to Boruto, insisting that they would find a way to free Boruto from his burden, but that they had to go home first. Finally, Boruto was angered enough by Kawaki's provocation to create a rift, allowing everyone to return to Konoha. Boruto declared that he felt stronger by Kawaki's side, who mocked Boruto for his foolishness. In the anime, Boruto's fear of being controlled by Momoshiki kept him awake. When Naruto revealed that his Kama's progress was accelerating, he vowed to do everything he could to save Boruto, which was enough to make Boruto sleep again.
