Brook, nicknamed Brook the Hummer, is the musician and second swordsman (after Zoro) of the Straw Hat Crew. He is a living skeleton that they met on board a ghost ship after finding a mysterious barrel drifting on the ocean. He is a Demon Fruit user, he has the powers of the Resurrection Fruit. He is an undead who came back to life in a state of pseudo-immortality thanks to the powers of this fruit, this fruit not being the cause of his current appearance. He is the ninth member of the Straw Hat Crew and the eighth member to join Luffy's crew. Brook is the long-awaited musician that Luffy has wanted since the beginning of his adventures, and that he has mentioned several times during the series.

He was once a member of the Rumbar Crew and was appointed to captain the rest of the crew after Captain Yorki divided him up to save the survivors from a disease. Brook is particularly close to the whale Laboon and was the one who carried the final song of his crew, a song that was to be delivered to the whale, recorded on a Tone Dial, before they all died from poisoned arrows. Before that, he was the leader of a battle convoy from an unidentified kingdom. He dies from a poison.
During the ellipsis, he becomes famous in the music world as the "Soul King", and performs his last concert at the Sabaody Archipelago where he joins his companions to leave for the New World. In chapter 662, we see that the picture on his wanted poster has been changed to his skeleton form, but his bounty has not changed. He is obsessed with young girls in general, just like Sanji, and regularly asks to see their panties when he meets them.
His current bounty is 83.000.000 Berry
Apparence
Before the ellipse / First appearance
Brook has the appearance of a skeleton with an afro haircut - the roots are deeply implanted in his skull - and initially wears fancy clothes, destroyed by time and hard fighting. He is one of the few members of the Crew who never (or almost never) change clothes. He is very tall and thin (one could even say skeletal, without abuse of language).
After the ellipse
He appears in an outfit much more extravagant and rocker: he wears glasses with pink glasses in the shape of heart, a hat-crown, pants with flowers... However, he keeps his blue jabot. He leaves his violin aside for a clear green guitar in the shape of shark.
When he was alive
He had absolutely the same outfit as before the ellipse. He wore round sunglasses and looked like he had fairly young skin. He had his iconic afro. On the other hand, he had the same slim build. The main difference being his face, which remained human and not a skeleton.

Personality
This strange skeleton-like character is the musician of the Straw Hat crew. Indeed, pirates love to party and can a party be totally successful without a good musician? Of course not, according to Luffy, who says pirates love to sing! That's why it's so important for Brook to set the mood with his violin, guitar and sometimes a piano. He plays almost every instrument to perfection, but his favorite instrument is definitely the violin.
He is usually very extravagant, slightly goofy and obsessed with the panties of the female gender. "Miss, would you be so kind as to show your panties?", which gives him a rather perverse side.
We often see him making "skeleton jokes" that only he and Luffy (and sometimes Chopper and Usopp) seem to find funny, as they are so repetitive. They are jokes related to the absence of certain parts of his body due to his skeleton anatomy. For example, "My heart beats with joy...even though I have no heart! "or "You gave me goosebumps, but I think about it, I have no skin!" or "I saw it with my own eyes, but I have no eyes! Skeleton joke! "So we can infer that he has accepted his condition and prefers to laugh about it. He is however disappointed when someone makes a remark before him about the fact that he does not have the body part mentioned. He values his afro, which is the last remaining part of his body, along with his bones.
His dream is to take the last song of his former pirate companions to Laboon, a whale that followed their ship 50 years ago. Neither of them has forgotten their promise to meet again, as Laboon is still waiting at the entrance to the Grand Line, and Brook is determined to bring him the song.
He is often seen crying with laughter, for example when Sanji meets Duval.
Relations
A skeleton gentleman by trade, Brook has all the attributes of a true gentleman, be it his suit, his hat, his cane, his fondness for tea or his good manners, which unfortunately often disappear very quickly. Indeed, our dear skeleton is the first to preach the importance of behaving well at the table but after only 2 seconds of waiting, he already yells "to the food"! And his gallantry is most often limited to asking women to show him their underwear! Closer to a pervert than a gentleman for this kind of thing. Despite his old age, Brook is far from being wise and reasonable. A real airhead who often forgets the essentials of things, he is always up for a joke, having fun, and especially singing. Eccentric, rarely serious, and a fan of "skeletal" jokes, he's a man who loves life to the fullest and longs to live a life of adventure and joy with his new companions.

Skills and Competencies
Brook ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi or Resurrection Fruit, a Paramecia demon fruit that allows the user's soul to return to his body when he dies. The user can thus live a second time, while being immortal. Note that the soul can take up to 1 year to return to the body of its host, in extreme weather conditions, and thus inhabit the corpse in its current state, whether it is decomposition or a pile of bones. This is what happened to Brook. This Fruit is very particular in the sense that it is the only known demon fruit that has no use until the user dies. Indeed, before Brook died, he never used this Fruit in any way. It is also the only Demon Fruit known to have an effect on the user after death, and the only one that can be used by the user after death, since Demon Fruits usually return to circulation after the user dies.
One of the side effects of his skeleton state is that he is now light enough to run on water without sinking.
After the two-year ellipse, Brook understood and mastered all the powers of his demon fruit, which he didn't really use before. The Yomi Yomi no mi allows one to take their soul out of their body. Brook used it to free Zoro and Usopp from their cage and to do "things" that made Usopp terribly jealous. His soul is also attached to his body: when Zeo cut off his head, his soul was still attached to his body and it glued itself back together. His soul also has power over music, which has won him millions of fans around the world.
He can also imbue his sword with the icy cold of the realm of the dead, making it a formidable weapon.
Finally, this Fruit allows the user to be immortal, since he has no vital organs. It is obviously logical that a blow coated with Haki of Arms will hurt Brook as if he still had his body.
