Chifuyu Matsuno

Chifuyu Matsuno is one of the protagonists of Tokyo Revengers, a 14-year-old teenager living in Tokyo and vice-captain of the 1st division of Tokyo Manjikai.

Apparence

Chifuyu was a boy who wore his blond hair in such a way that it hid the front of his face. He also gave off a disturbing aura through his look and behavior.

After his meeting with Keisuke Baji, he will change and appears from now on softer, a look less tenacious and less rebellious. He usually wears a wool sweater or the Toman uniform.

In 2017, he approaches his natural hair color, namely black, but yet still an earring. His clothes are refined, but if only that, he does not seem to have changed excessively in twelve years.

As vice-captain of the First Toman Division, he has control and command of that division.

Physical abilities

When he was still a middle schooler, Chifuyu was a strong enough fighter to conquer his school and even the upperclassmen were afraid to fight him. So he is a competent fighter, able to defend himself in a fight. Although he is not among the strongest, his physical skills should not be underestimated.

Relations

Keisuke Baji

Chifuyu first met Baji when he was a 12-year-old delinquent who had conquered his entire school, even the upperclassmen. He underestimates Baji because he has repeated his grade. Also, he is dressed like a serious student but is bad academically. Chifuyu helped Baji write a letter, which caused Baji to smile with gratitude.

Later that day, Chifuyu is ambushed by a biker gang, Mandala, because he had assaulted one of their minions earlier. He is surrounded and outnumbered, but Baji appears and single-handedly takes them all out. Chifuyu is stunned and Baji becomes the first person he truly respects, prompting him to join the Toman afterwards. Their close relationship is marked by their tradition of sharing a Peyoung Yakisoba.


After becoming Baji's right-hand man, Chifuyu continues to support him loyally and trust him completely. When Baji planned to join Valhalla by deception, Chifuyu willingly agreed to be brutally beaten so that Baji would have the trust of the enemy gang leaders.

When Baji is about to die, Chifuyu takes him in his arms and is the last person he talks to. Baji remembers their past by thinking about sharing a Peyoung Yakisoba. Chifuyu echoes this feeling as he trembles. When Baji dies, Chifuyu bursts into tears while screaming. Later, Chifuyu respects this last request by sharing a yakisoba near Baji's grave with tears in his eyes.

Takemichi Hanagaki

He often acts as an advisor to Takemichi, helping him create plans before acting, giving him advice, or supporting him emotionally. Chifuyu is the first person from the past to whom Takemichi revealed that he was from the future, showing him complete trust. Takemichi and Chifuyu eventually become best friends, with an unparalleled trust between the two. Chifuyu often calls Takemichi "partner".

History

Flashback

In middle school, the vice-captain is a disruptive student. He is constantly surrounded by other teenagers, his minions, and gets into fights on a regular basis. But there is a rumor that a ninth grader from the previous year has repeated a grade. Chifuyu, convinced that he is a dangerous delinquent, starts looking for the famous Keisuke Baji. To his great surprise, he sees a "model" student, who seems to be concentrated and attentive to his lessons. But the eighth grader recognizes that Baji is playing a role and that he is not a model student at all.

One day, while returning from class, Chifuyu is ambushed and a dozen students from another school start beating him. It is Baji, alone, who will save him. The two students, just discovering that they are in fact neighbors, become friends and Chifuyu joins the Tokyo Manjikai, becoming vice-captain of the division led by Baji.

Valhalla Arch

Chifuyu is first shown plastered on the floor of the ruined arcade, surrounded by the Valhalla members, being beaten by Baji. The other Valhalla members are surprised that Baji would go so far, as Chifuyu is his attacker's subordinate and they are close. During the rest of the confrontation between Takemichi and Valhalla, Chifuyu remains unconscious.

The next day, Chifuyu is on a swing in a park and as Takemichi walks by, Chifuyu asks him to sit on the swing next to him. Not realizing it was Chifuyu at first, Takemichi ignores him but quickly remembers him when Chifuyu starts talking about Baji. He tells him that he believes Baji helped Takemichi by knocking him out during Tetta Kisaki's appointment ceremony so that he wouldn't get into more trouble and so that Baji could infiltrate and spy on Valhalla to get to Kisaki.

On their way to join Mikey and Draken, Takemichi asks Chifuyu if Baji told him he was a spy. Chifuyu replies that he didn't but he knows Baji well enough to know that he probably is. Not to be left out, Chifuyu decided to investigate himself. After the meeting, he makes a deal with Takemichi, telling him that he will help him become the leader of the Toman in exchange for his help in his investigation of Kisaki. They decide to interrogate Nobutaka Osanai to investigate Kisaki. After the investigation, Chifuyu hypothesizes that Kisaki is the secret leader of Valhalla.

The day before the battle, Chifuyu calls Baji to meet him and Takemichi. He tells him that he can stop acting as a spy because he has information about Kisaki, but Baji refutes his words, pretending that he doesn't know what he is talking about and that he is part of Valhalla.

During the battle, noticing that Takemichi is intimidated, Chifuyu stands behind him, reassuring him that he will support him since anyone will be afraid in a battle but he can control that fear. After the two gangs fight, Baji is thrown down the pile of cars after hitting Kisaki in the head with a pipe. As Baji gets up to fight Kisaki, Chifuyu stands in front of him. He tells Baji not to fight Kisaki, because he would not help Toman. Baji, without hesitation, hits Chifuyu out of the way with the pipe and tells him that he doesn't care what he has to say. Frustrated, Chifuyu tells Baji that as vice-captain, he has to look out for his captain, even if it means fighting. Baji then tells him to fight him and that he will even give him a 10 second lead. When the 10 seconds are over, Takemichi attacks Baji and Chifuyu admits that he can't hurt him. But suddenly, while Baji is immobilized by Takemichi, Kazutora arrives and stabs the captain. Chifuyu grabs Kazutora's collar, pulls him aside and yells at him, however, Kazutora is passed out. Baji, saying that he is only slightly injured, goes back to fight Kisaki, who is on top of the pile of cars, but not before hitting Chifuyu to keep him out of the way. However, after succumbing to his stabbing, Baji is rendered motionless before Kisaki. Chifuyu rushes to Baji's aid and scolds Kisaki, asking him what he did. Kisaki answers that he didn't do anything and Chifuyu notices the big pool of blood under his captain.

Chifuyu lifts Baji from the ground after he stabbed himself and gives his last advice to Takemichi. In his last words, Baji asks Chifuyu for Peyoung Yakisoba, to which Chifuyu replies that he will buy it for him. Baji thanked him before dying in his arms and Chifuyu cried and regretted that he had not done enough for him.

Two weeks after the battle, Chifuyu goes to Baji's family grave and brings half a bowl of Peyoung Yakisoba, recalling the first time they met. He then breaks down in tears, frustrated that Baji left thanking him and not sure what to do next.

At the closing meeting of Bloody Halloween, Chifuyu gave the final speech about the future of Toman's first division. Earlier, Mikey had visited him, asking if he wanted to leave the first division. Chifuyu had thought of leaving the Toman after Baji's death but decided to stay in his memory, naming Takemichi to be the new captain.

Back to the present after Valhalla

Takemichi finds Chifuyu who tells him that he is one of the leaders of Toman. The two of them then go to an administrative meeting in a restaurant. During the meeting, Kisaki appears to ask for a private conversation with Chifuyu and Takemichi. Kisaki leads them to his office where he first apologizes for what happened in the past during Bloody Halloween, much to Chifuyu's surprise, although he expresses doubts. Kisaki pours them both the alcoholic and drugged drinks, withdrawing his apology before Chifuyu and Takemichi pass out.

When Takemichi wakes up, he and Chifuyu are both tied to chairs, although Chifuyu woke up earlier and had bruises and blood on his face from Kisaki's beating. Kisaki begins to beat Chifuyu for turning them in to the cops. Chifuyu admits to being a snitch and asks Kisaki to leave Takemichi out of the situation as he has nothing to do with it. Kisaki ignores his pleas and shoots Takemichi in the leg before shooting Chifuyu himself in the head, killing him. But before he dies, Chifuyu tells Takemichi that the Toman has changed for the worse and reminds him of Baji's last wishes.

Just before Kisaki shoots Takemichi, Kazutora comes to save him, although he wanted to save Chifuyu instead. He explains to Takemichi that after his release from prison, Chifuyu came to look for him and told him that the Toman went wrong. Kazutora, without his knowledge, leads Takemichi to Naoto, who arrests him. Takemichi is taken to an interrogation room where he is shown a video recorded by Chifuyu that was to be used against the Toman. In the video, he is seen trying to calm Takemichi, who has discovered that Hina was indirectly killed by him.

Black Dragons Bow

Chifuyu appears at Takemichi's house after he was beaten by Taiju Shiba. He gives Takemichi and his former college friend information about the Black Dragons before pulling Takemichi out. He takes him for a ride on Baji's old motorcycle and tells him to stop stressing about the conflict, because Baji wouldn't want to see him like this. Takemichi then tells Chifuyu the whole truth, that he has been traveling through time and his experiences. Chifuyu confesses to him that somehow he always knew that Takemichi was traveling in time and congratulates him for trying to help everyone. He then assures him that he will support him.

At the next Toman administration meeting, Chifuyu gives Takemichi a vague plan to follow in order to prevent Hakkai Shiba from leaving the gang. His plan eventually failed, but they both decided to accompany Mitsuya in his negotiation with Taiju.
