SPOILER ALERT FOR ALL THE "ANIME ONLY" THE FOLLOWING BLOG SPOIL THE END OF DEMON SLAYER !

As you know, the manga ended a little while ago, and the chapter 205 provoked many reactions. Some liked it, some hated it, many didn't understand the interest of this chapter.

So this article will aim to explain what chapter 205 of Demon Slayer is for me and why I consider it as an excellent conclusion.

Chapter 205 | Kimetsu no Yaiba Wikia | Fandom
Chapter 205 marks a break from the previous one. As announced at the end of 204, the scenario makes a huge leap forward. We leave the Taisho era and the first quarter of the 20th century to find ourselves in our time, around the year 2020.

Thus, all the characters that the series had presented to us died during this ellipse, and we follow the descendants of those who were able to create a descendant. So Kanao married Tanjiro and their lineage prospered. Sumihiko Kamado and Kanata Kamado are their great-grandsons and the first characters we discover. Zenitsu married Nezuko and they also started a family. Yoshiteru Agatsuma and Toko Agatsuma are their great-grandchildren. Inosuke, by the force of an incredible destiny, managed to marry Aoi. Aoba Hashibira is their descendant.

Yes, it sounds like a big fanfiction like the ones where the characters of One Piece went to high school. But I think you have to go a bit further than that...

Here is the page about the version of Scantrad. Let's take a look at the characters in color: "The future they won has finally paid off". The title of the chapter is "The lives that shine through the ages". We can already draw a small conclusion.

Each protagonist of the series has been reincarnated. Again, it's very fanfic, I grant you. Maybe Gotoge just wanted to make a chapter in a school life atmosphere? It's possible, but if you look for it, it's possible to find a symbolism to each of the characters' reincarnations. Let's see in the order of appearance of each character:
Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Sumihiko Kamado (Tanjiro Kamado) :

In addition to bearing the name of the one who perpetuated Yoriichi's memory, he is the reincarnation of the hero of the series. However, unlike his great-grandfather, Sumihiko seems to be less serious and much more willing to defy order. It is possible to see this as Tanjiro's perfect life: a life where he did not have to help all the people and where he could live day by day. It can also be interpreted as Tanjiro's carefree life, which he lost far too early, following the death of his father...

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Kanata Kamado (Kanao Tsuyuri)

In addition to bearing the name of the man who perpetuated Yoriichi's memory, he is the reincarnation of the hero of the series. However, unlike his great-grandfather, Sumihiko seems to be less serious and much more willing to defy order. It is possible to see this as Tanjiro's perfect life: a life where he didn't have to help everyone and where he could live day by day. It can also be interpreted as Tanjiro's carefree life, which he lost far too soon, following the death of his father...

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Yoshiteru Agatsuma (Zenitsu Agatsuma)

Look at Our Zenitsu Figure

This is one of the reincarnations I have the most difficulty with regarding its meaning. Yoshiteru seems to be just a Zenitsu without any change. In itself, Zenitsu didn't really have a goal. He wants to live a simple life without any worries. And this is what Yoshiteru can do since the demons don't exist anymore. Yoshiteru lives such a carefree life that his grades at school are, according to his sister, "abominable". The fact that he lives a carefree life unlike his ancestor is shown by his black hair, which is the same color as Zenitsu's hair before he started to learn the Lightning Breath.

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Toko Agatsuma (Nezuko Kamado)

Again, Toko's situation is similar to Tanjiro's. The problem is however that Nezuko is not really developed during the work... We can just rely on what we discover about Nezuko at the beginning when she is human: she is in the same situation as Tanjiro, with an innocence left too early and responsibilities too heavy for her.

These 4 characters are the main characters of the chapter. Most of the other characters are not named, I will just indicate who they are the reincarnations of

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Tenma Uzui (Tengen Uzui)

I... couldn't find anything about Uzui's reincarnation. He's a professional gymnast, and I think this is the profession where Uzui's shinobi skills are most useful, especially the agility that is attributed to shinobi. After that, I don't have much more to say about him...

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Aoba Hashibira (Inosuke Hashibira)

The reincarnation of Inosuke is interesting in the sense that it does not take the character of the original. Aoba is much calmer than his ancestor. It is difficult to talk about Inosuke's ideal life, since we know absolutely nothing about what he wants to do. We can imagine him living in the mountains, thinking he is a god... This is exactly what Aoba wants to do, when we see him at the end of the chapter. Aoba has also discovered the blue lyocoris, and has thus without knowing it accomplished Muzan's dream. Funny... This character stands out as one of the most interesting and melancholic, which fits with the fact that Inosuke would probably have hated living in an urban environment.

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Muichiro et Yuichiro Tokito Reincarnations

At first I thought they were the reincarnations of Yoriichi and Michikatsu Tsugikuni. But the cloud symbols on the quilt of a baby, similar to those present on the tunics of Muichiro that he wore as a child. For them, I think it's all about Muichiro's desire to have a quiet life with his family. The fact that they are babies may be based on the fact that Muichiro is the youngest slayer and therefore appears to be the youngest.

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Shinobu et Kanae Kocho Reincarnations

Look at Our Nezuko Figure

Une suite pour Demon Slayer ?

First of all, I want to notice that their uniform looks very much like the uniform of the Shûchiin academy of Kaguya-Sama Love is War. And already it's a good point, because Kaguya-Sama is good. Besides, there is the reincarnation of the best waifu of the Demon Slayer and then... More seriously, their appearance revolves around a single theme: the peaceful life that the original Shinobu and Kanae had. The peaceful life they had when they were children. A peaceful life that was shattered when their parents were killed by demons, to be replaced by a life filled with fear and fear of demons. We can interpret the departure of Shinobu's soul to heaven when Doma dies (and Shinobu finds the soul of the rest of his family) as the beginning of this reincarnation. Gotoge refers to one of the first descriptions of Shinobu by Tanjiro, which was based on his smell, with what Yoshiteru says "how good they smell".

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Gyomei Himejima Reincarnations

The most powerful of the smashers, the one who dedicated his life to the protection of others despite his blindness, has become a kindergarten master... For the time being, everything is based on what Himejima did before becoming a smasher: he took care of orphans in a temple and according to him "I would have liked to live like that all my life". So his wish came true and he is protecting children again, in a setting more suitable for today's times.

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Iguro Obanai et de Mitsuri Kanroji  Reincarnations

Here it's quite simple, since it's directly explained in the manga. Iguro and Mitsuri were reincarnated in order to be able to live their love without fearing to die. They built a life together. It is interesting to note that the reincarnation of Mitsuri seems to have an appetite as gargantuan as the original

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Jigoro Kuwajima et de Sakonji Urokodaki Reincarnations

The 2 masters live together, like old friends... Again, I won't have much more to say about them than "they live peacefully". It must be said that these characters have been relatively little developed during the work, except as a motivation (I think in particular of Zenitsu). Nevertheless, I want to notice that even if Urokodaki doesn't have his mask anymore in this life, we don't see his face. Gotoge succeeded in perpetuating this little mystery until the end!

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Kiriya Ubuyashiki

Unlike the other characters, Kiriya is still alive. He has become the oldest man in the history of Japan. But why? I think it can be explained by the curse that affected the Ubuyashiki family and that prevented them from living beyond 30 years. The fact that Kiriya lives so long, at least 3 times longer than expected, symbolizes the liberation of the Ubuyashiki clan...

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Genya et Sanemi Shinazugawa Reincarnations

The meaning of their reincarnation is quite simple: protection. Sanemi wanted to protect people and above all his little brother Genya. Genya wanted to get recognition from his brother, so he started to protect people by becoming a demon slayer. This is what we find in their reincarnation who are policemen. Sanemi being one of the only characters who survived the fight against Muzan, he probably had descendants, although we don't know if these 2 policemen are the descendants of Sanemi, although I like to think that they are.

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Giyuu Tomioka, Sabito et Makomo Reincarnations

These reincarnations revolve around one thing: the redemption of Giyuu and the abandonment of his regrets during the arc of the Training of the Pillars. Sabito and Giyuu met during the final selection and became fast friends. Sabito took the protection of Giyuu and all the other candidates, but he will be killed by the arm demon. Only he will die this year. We can interpret this reincarnation by the desire of Giyuu to see Sabito growing up with him. Concerning Makomo, having become a friend of Sabito when they were dead, we can say that she followed her in their new life.

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Tojuro Rengoku (Kyojuro Rengoku)

Of course, Rengoku had to be reincarnated, it was obvious. In this 2nd life, Tojuro appears as cheerful as Kyojuro, while being as passionate as him (he says he trained all night). Here, I think that everything starts from a wish of Tanjiro to know Rengoku better, so their reincarnations are close friends who seem to have grown up together. Tojuro also has an obviously deep relationship with his father, which Kyojuro searched for after the death of his mother, but never found.

Que veut dire le chapitre 205 ?

Demon Slayer: Good or Bad End ?

Before concluding, let's take a quick look at the overall meaning of chapter 205. Why did he reincarnate the characters?

We can think that it is a simple desire of Gotoge, or even a preparation of his next work, but it is a bit deeper than that.

During all the manga, the characters imagined their life in a world without demon. Iguro and Mitsuri are the most obvious example. This chapter shows us this famous world without demons, that the characters managed to create thanks to their strength and many sacrifices... Also, an ellipse of almost 100 years was necessary.

It was necessary so that each character dies, except Ubuyashiki for whom the survival has a symbolic value, and Yushiro since he is a demon. I didn't talk about Yushiro because there wasn't much to say about him, except that he honors Tamayo's memory, as Tanjiro asked him to.

So chapter 205 of Demon Slayer is a logical conclusion. It is not a Gaiden in disguise, it is not a chapter just for fanservice. It is there to conclude the work in an original and unexpected way.
