Dracule Mihawk, known as "Hawk's Eye" (Taka no Me) was the first Privateer Captain to appear. He remained a Corsair Captain until the group was disbanded.
Before starting you can now find all our anime figures from America by clicking here :
he is the holder of the title of "The Greatest Fencer in the Whole World" (Sekai Saikyō no Kenshi) and was Zoro Roronoa's trainer during the 2-year ellipse.
He is also the third antagonist of the Baratie Arc after Don Krieg and Gin, one of the main antagonists of the Marineford Arc where he took part in the Battle of Marineford and sided with the Marines, along with most other Shichibukai.
Apparence
Mihawk is a tall man with a pale complexion, a short black beard and sideburns that point upwards. His nickname comes from his strangely colored eyes (red in the Manga, yellow in the anime), which look like the eyes of a hawk. Mihawk wears black and red clothes, with a crucifix as a pendant (which turns out to be a tiny sword), giving him the appearance of a Spanish fencer. He wears a wide-brimmed hat decorated with a large plume and a long open black cape.
At his home in the castle on the island of Kuraigana, he wears different pants and an open white shirt with hair on the chest. When he met Zoro outside, he had a dark cloak draped over his shoulders. Twenty-four years earlier, at the execution of Gol D. Roger, Mihawk did not have his beard, and he did not wear his hat. He already had his pendant, and was wearing what looked like a flower patterned jacket. We can also observe that he is already in possession of the Yoru at this time.
He wears a Kogatana around his neck, appearing as a small golden cross-shaped pendant containing a blade inside, which he uses to defeat enemies who are not worthy of dying by his sword, the Kokuto Yoru. This large sword, which he wears on his back when not in use, has a black curved blade, and is also shaped like a crucifix, with a golden hilt adorned with red beads (which are colored blue and green in the anime) and a handle wrapped in bandages, with a rounded tip at the end.
In an SBS, Oda drew the Corsairs as children. Mihawk appears with worn clothes and training with a kind of katana.
Personality
Hawkeye is probably one of the most serious and impassive characters in One Piece, very little, if anything, seems to surprise him. He rarely smiles and has only been seen laughing twice so far. Even when he learns that Luffy is the son of Dragon and sees Vista block his attack with her power, he hardly ever shows any emotion. Unlike most swordsmen in the series, he seems down to earth. While he is not surprised by every news story in the papers, he knows how to recognize talent, in fact, he has a desire to see Zoro surpass him after witnessing Zoro's incredible will and determination after his first battle in Baratia. He says he will wait for Zoro no matter how long it takes and emphasizes that he will continue to be the best swordsman in the world, showing great confidence in his own abilities.
He displays a sense of honor by recognizing and abiding by the swordsman's code, and he even reluctantly allowed Roronoa Zoro the luxury of training, as the latter puts his pride aside for his captain, Luffy. He's also not afraid to refer to his title as the "best swordsman in the world" in relation to himself, indicating a high level of confidence in his own abilities. The pirate says that he will wait for Zoro, no matter how long it takes, and emphasizes that he will continue to be the best swordsman in the world, showing a high level of confidence in his own abilities. He is proud of his mastery of the sword, believing that a nick on his sword is a stain on his pride. Despite being annoyed at being challenged by inferior enemies, Mihawk has shown excitement at being pursued as a pirate once again due to the dissolution of the Seven Captain Corsair system.
Mihawk is selective and temperamental when it comes to fulfilling his duties as a Grand Corsair, as evidenced by his history of poor attendance at summonses given by the World Government, as well as his decision to hunt and harass certain pirates rather than others. Zeff speculated that the reason Mihawk had attacked Don Krieg and his men might have been simply because they had disturbed his nap. Mihawk admitted that the only reason he had followed them all the way back to East Blue from the Grand Line was to kill time. He tends to show a certain curiosity about the people he decides to attack. He tried to attack Whitebeard just to see how far apart they were, and he attacked Luffy just to see if fate was on Luffy's side or not. As a result, Mihawk is very analytical about the abilities of others and can recognize strengths that others cannot, such as when he realized that Luffy's natural charisma and quick accumulation of comrades is his most dangerous attribute.
Although Mihawk is normally passive when talking with others, he can sometimes seem rather blunt and cold, even insensitive to misfortune. When Perona was crying over Moria's presumed death, Mihawk coldly told her to leave, saying that her crying was annoying him and that she was breaking his ears. This was also shown again when he didn't tell her that he had discovered Moria was alive while stating that he had no reason to do so.
He also seems to have a sense of hospitality, having (somewhat) tolerated the presence of Perona and Zoro upon his return to the island of Kuraigana just after the Whitebeard War; he even went so far as to relay to Zoro the events that occurred regarding his captain, Luffy. In addition, he offered a boat to help the straw hat swordsman leave the island. He also told Perona to look out for her when she decided to leave the castle, causing Perona to tearfully thank him for letting her stay with him for the past two years. It is later shown that he personally let her go out of concern for her well-being, as he anticipated the abolition of the Seven Shichibukai system so that she would not be in danger when the Marines were sent after him. He shows that he is capable of showing care and compassion for others. Also, although Mihawk spends most of his time alone, he is able to live and spend time with people like Shanks and Perona.
Mihawk is interested in farming, having begun to cultivate and plow the war-torn lands of the island of Kuraigana, prompting even Humandrakes who were normally afraid of Mihawk to join him. As Zoro's guardian, he was quite strict, forbidding him to drink until he mastered Weapon Haki.
Unlike many other antagonists, he is not particularly cruel or ambitious.
Relations
Entourage
Shanks
In the past, Mihawk traveled all over the seas to fight Shanks on several occasions. It was said that their battles echoed from one end of the Grand Line to the other. However, Mihawk gave up trying to fight a "one-armed man" like him. Mihawk and Shanks have become good friends and manage to get along well, despite their opposite personalities. Mihawk respects Shanks very much and even apologized to him, before announcing that he would fight without restraint when he faced Luffy, just before launching his full force assault against him at Marine Ford. When Shanks made his appearance, Mihawk left the battlefield saying that he had agreed to participate in the war against Whitebeard, but that facing The Redhead was far beyond their agreement.
Roronoa Zoro
From their first meeting in East Blue, Mihawk was impressed by the young fencer's determination, courage and sense of honor. After defeating him, he asked him to try to outdo him in their next encounter.
After the battle of Marine Ford, he is surprised to see him back on his island, in the company of Perona. When Zoro asks him on his knees to train him to become stronger, he declares that Zoro's attitude is shameful for a fencer and asks him to leave. But, he changes his mind when he understands that Zoro puts his pride aside for his captain, Luffy and agrees to train him.
Perona
Perona arrived on the island of Kuraigana and moved in with him, even though Mihawk did not allow her to. However, he did not chase her away.
The humandrakes
They didn't dare approach his castle. Mihawk describes them as good opponents for an overconfident swordsman. After the ellipsis, they help Mihawk and Perona to cultivate fields.
Enemies
- Whitebeard and his fleet.
- Vista: They fought each other at the Battle of Marine Ford.
- His main rival was Shanks the Red. However, since he lost his arm, Mihawk no longer wishes to fight him.
- Don Krieg: On the Grand Line, he massacred Don Krieg's entire fleet, leaving only the captain's ship to flee, and then chased him to East Blue. His only fault is that he unintentionally disturbed Mihawk during his nap
- Monkey D. Luffy : He tried to kill him in Marineford
- Zoro Roronoa : Because Zoro's goal is to become the best swordsman in the world. However, Mihawk agreed to train him during the two-year ellipse.
- Pirates, in general, because he is a privateer captain.
Skills and Competencies
Mihawk holds the title of the best swordsman in the world. Zeff claims that he is the strongest swordsman who ever existed. He is able to cut steel without any problem: he proved it by defeating Daz Bones in one blow, whose body is made of blades. He managed to cut the giant wave frozen by Aokiji. He has one of the best swords in the world, the Kokuto Yoru. He gets rid of Mr. 1 and Baggy quite quickly (although the latter is insensitive to his swords).
The only swordsmen who seemed to be able to compete with him were Shanks Le Roux and Vista l'Epée Fleurie, but he wanted to let Roronoa Zoro improve and become his new rival. However, since Shanks lost his arm, Mihawk no longer wishes to fight him.
Mihawk also possesses abilities that have earned him the nickname Falcon's Eye: a very powerful vision, able to find Monkey D. Luffy in the middle of a battle while the latter was moving in Gear Second. He was also able to keep his eyes on Luffy even while fighting another fencer, Vista.
He also has great speed and amazing reflexes. He handles his sword with great ease despite his size and weight.
Mihawk has also been seen using his hands to fight as in his first fight against Zoro where he gives him a blow in the neck. It seems that he has great power even without his weapons.
Weapons
- Kogatana, a small dagger hidden in the cross that serves as his collar. He is seen using it as a tool to eat, but combined with his swordsmanship, it is also a deadly weapon capable of defeating mediocre swordsmen or even those with some talent, such as Zoro who wielded three blades during their duel.
- Kokuto Yoru (black sword considered one of the 12 most powerful in the world), a giant black blade in the shape of a crucifix that he uses when he deems his opponent worthy. It is one of the 12 Saijo Ô Wazamono.
Fluid
Mihawk has mastered both Observation and Weapon Haki,[3] and taught Zoro how to use Weapon Haki to prevent him from breaking his swords again. This implies that he has enough knowledge and mastery to be able to teach someone how to use it as well.
History
Past
Dracule Mihawk was present at the execution of Gol D. Roger's execution. He traveled throughout the Grand Line and made Kuraigana Castle his home.
Mihawk was Shanks the Red's rival for over 24 years, with Shanks frequently challenging him to a duel. Their battles were so intense that they shook the entire Grand Line. After Mihawk lost one of his arms twelve years ago, he stopped fighting the pirate. At one point, he won the title of best swordsman in the world. Following a conflict with Shanks, he joined the ranks of the 7 Great Corsairs.
Mihawk was responsible for the destruction of Don Krieg's entire fleet, except for his flagship, during Krieg's failed attempt to enter and conquer the Grand Line. Mihawk committed this act out of sheer amusement and drove the pirate from that sea. The swordsman pursued the survivors to East Blue in Baratia.
Baratie Arch
He made it to the Baratie, destroyed Krieg's ship and headed for the restaurant in his Death Boat. A pirate asked him why he was there but he said he was just passing the time. He shoots at him, but Mihawk deflects the bullets with the tip of his sword. Zoro immediately recognizes him and challenges the Corsair to a duel which he accepts. Mihawk asks why the swordsman wants to fight him and Zoro tells him about his promise to a friend. Zoro says that he is not a fool who uses all his power just to chase after little minions.
Hawkeye pulls out a penknife from the pendant around his neck. Zoro attacks with his santoryu but is easily blocked by the knife which makes him wonder if the gap between the two is really big. The Pirate Hunter tries to hit him with repeated sword strikes that Mihawk dodges without any difficulty before punching Zoro and he wonders why he didn't back down. Zoro says that all the oaths, promises and deals he made would be gone if he had backed down and says that death would have been better. Mihawk was so impressed by Zoro's spirit, that he grants him a confrontation against the black sword Kokuto Yoru.
Zoro decided to perform his most powerful technique, Sanzen Sekkai, but Mihawk far surpassed it and broke two of his three swords in the process. Mihawk defeats Zoro with a near fatal strike. Zoro, admitting total defeat, allows himself to be dominated by Mihawk one-on-one, and like a true swordsman and awaits his final attack. Mihawk accepts this offer and slices through Zoro's entire torso, but he holds back just enough to allow Zoro to live. This wound will leave a huge scar, one of Zoro's only and largest. He won't die from it and vows to become strong enough to beat Mihawk one day. Luffy angrily attacks Mihawk, revealing that Zoro is not dead and asking him to surpass himself.
Hawk Eye recognized Zoro almost as worthy, a force that could surely one day overtake him, he is still too young and inexperienced to die in his opinion. Zoro calls him in tears, proclaiming that no matter what, he would never lose again. Then Mihawk tells Zoro his full name and gives him a challenge: to discover the real world, to become stronger. Zoro must reach the highest peak and surpass it! After hearing Zoro's goals and giving him a challenge, Mihawk asks Luffy what his goal is. When Luffy tells Mihawk that he will be the future Pirate King, Mihawk tells him that it's even harder than surpassing him. Following his many events with Zoro and Luffy, Mihawk decides it's time for him to return to the Grand Line for a nap. Don Krieg simply calls out to him. And in a final attack, he strikes Krieg's ship again, causing the already destroyed ship to come apart at the seams. Mihawk disappears into the dust. From that day on, Mihawk will take a close interest in the future of Luffy and Zoro, who have impressed him.
Arc Loguetown
Following Arlong's defeat, Mihawk visits his old rival, Shanks. When he arrives on the island where Shanks is, he encounters members of his crew who become frightened when they see him. He asks them about the fate of their superior officer. He finds Shanks and shows him the first poster of Luffy which surprises everyone. Then the Emperor invited him to join the banquet, offering him a drink.
Arc Jaya
The 7 Great Corsairs are scheduled to meet at Marie Joie to discuss replacing Crocodile after his defeat by the Straw Hats. Mihawk was seen carrying Luffy's second award and Zoro's first poster in his little brace towards Marie Joie. He began to recall his fight with Zoro in the Baratie restaurant.
Later at Marie Joie, as the meeting is about to start. Mihawk intervenes, all were surprised, especially Don Quixote Doflamingo and Sengoku who did not expect his appearance, he mentioned that he was there only as a spectator. Laffitte appears and states that he wants to present the name of his captain for the nomination of Corsair. The name "Teach" is presented by Laffitte.
Amazon Lily bow
A ship is in charge of transporting the 7 Great Corsairs to the Navy headquarters. He eats and drinks with his other colleagues.
Impel Down Arc
Just before the battle, Mihawk is seen at Marine Ford headquarters, waiting with the other Corsairs to be called to battle, the wait begins.
Arc Marine Ford
Mihawk, during the war, arrived as ordered and was ready to take on Whitebeard's crew and his allies. When Newgate arrived on the scene a short time later, he decided to attack the old man with his saber to see how far Whitebeard could reach. He sent a very wide laser that swept everything in its path. While Newgate just watched the attack. Diamond Joz, Whitebeard's commander, blocked the attack with his power, which Mihawk didn't like.
When Luffy arrived, Mihawk showed a slight sign of amusement, adding that this straw hat never fails to make things interesting. When Sengoku revealed the identity of Luffy's father, he didn't seem at all surprised, and in fact, he said it made sense given the previous turn of events. He found Luffy and sent him a blow with his black sword. He apologized to Shanks, saying he wasn't going to hold back against the young Monkey D. Luffy and wondered what would happen to the famous straw hat pirate. Would his legend end here and now, or would he somehow escape from his black saber.
His fight with Luffy consisted of several long-range sword strikes. The first attack wounded Luffy and threw him against a wall. He then dived on him to pierce him but Luffy managed to avoid him in time. He launched another attack powerful enough to cut off the top of one of the two frozen tsunamis and knock it to the battlefield. For a brief moment, Mihawk threw air blades at Luffy, who managed to avoid them successfully. However, Luffy could not counterattack and had trouble dodging. Luffy grabbed Baggy, who was caught in Crocodile's tornado, and used him as a shield against Mihawk. Baggy, enraged, threw a Muggy Ball at Mihawk who effortlessly threw it back at Baggy. As Baggy took the blast from his own attack, Luffy fled, but the Shichibukai did not lose sight of him.
Marco ordered Vista to confront Mihawk to protect Luffy. As Luffy made his way to the platform, Mihawk concluded that Luffy's ability to make friends is probably the most powerful and dangerous gift in the world. After the Pacifista Army appeared, Mihawk told Vista that it was time to end their fight and put it off. After Whitebeard was wounded by Squardo, Mihawk was the only one who showed no expression in the face of the event. He is later seen confronting the pirates in the Plaza. When Luffy and Ivankov tried to reach Ace again, Mihawk arrived to stop them, but he was stopped by Daz Bones, whose name he knows. Daz Bones is not powerful enough and is easily beaten, but Crocodile intervenes and starts a fight with Mihawk, telling him he should be careful, as he is in a bad mood. He is later seen fighting pirates who asked him if he remembered their names, to which Dracula replied that he couldn't remember all the bugs he once beat.
After that, he is seen leaving the battle, with Shanks arriving. One of the soldiers asks why he doesn't help them fight Shanks. Mihawk replied that he had agreed to fight Whitebeard, but fighting Shanks was never part of the deal.
Post-War Arc
While Mihawk was fighting in Marineford, Zoro, who had landed there because of Kuma's power, fought all the warrior monkeys on Mihawk's island.
When Mihawk finally returned, Zoro asked him to train him, which he refused at first, saying that he had overestimated him, that he didn't think Zoro would stoop to begging his opponent for help after suffering a clear defeat. Zoro told him that he had already defeated the warrior monkeys in question and that only Mihawk's head was left to be defeated on this island, but that he was not stupid enough to believe that it would be possible to defeat him as he is at this moment. Mihawk understands that Zoro is not acting for his own benefit, and that, instead, he has found something more important than his own life. Impressed by Zoro's resolve, who for his captain would be willing to suffer disgrace, despite his great sense of honor, Mihawk tells him that his training will begin when he is healed and instructs Perona to heal his wounds.
Arc Dressrosa
Brandnew talks about the Grand Corsairs including Mihawk, so that means he's still part of it.
Wano Kuni Arch
He learns in the newspaper that Gecko Moria survived. When Perona tried to reach him, he reasoned with her by explaining the events of the reverie.
Later, he learns that the Grand Corsair system has been abolished, so he is excited to be hunted down by the Navy again.
