As leader of the original Falcon Band, he and his mercenaries are able to end the Hundred Years' War and bring peace to the war-torn kingdom of Midland. Following the desertion of his most trusted confidant Guts, Griffith beds Princess Charlotte on impulse, causing her imprisonment, a year's worth of crippling torture and the apparent disappearance of her dream. Although he is eventually rescued by the gang, his extreme disability and eternal desire to obtain his own kingdom force him to sacrifice his comrades during the fifth eclipse, for kinship with the Hand of God as the fifth member Femto - a demonic and idealized version of himself stripped of his human inhibitions . In time, he incarnates in the Physical World, preoccupied only with the realization of his dream, which comes true with his thwarting of the Kushan invasion of Midland, the Great Roar of the Astral World that he causes, and the rise of his utopian capital, Falconia.
Personality
Griffith has always behaved in a well-mannered and exemplary manner, almost indistinguishable from that of the nobility; his manners, coupled with his keen intelligence, often leave people amazed at his humble origins. Certainly unique from others, Griffith's presence has always been unmistakable; those who encounter him end up viewing him with either goodwill or animosity, the former turning to trust or camaraderie, and the latter to awe or even fear. Those who choose to follow Griffith are usually overwhelmed with emotion upon first meeting him, either fascinated by the thought of splendor and greatness at his side, or shaken by his strong sense of ambition and conviction. Conversely, he is able to perceive even the most subtle malevolence that a person harbors towards him, even on his first encounter, and acts accordingly from that moment on. An understanding of these human emotions and motivations, and an unbridled ambition paying attention to nothing but the climb, allowed Griffith to rise on his own above all else.
Even as a child, Griffith's strong sense of ego and ambition were evident. It was in the back alleys of his childhood town that he first set his sights on acquiring his own kingdom. His behavior is multifaceted during the early years of the group, appearing at times carefree and almost childlike, while at other times demonstrating a fierce killing intent and irrepressible temper. This juxtaposition of undeniable distinction and shared idiosyncrasies is what draws people from diverse backgrounds into his band of mercenaries. Despite his wide audience, in his early years Griffith's ego is never noticeably inflated; after one of the Falcon's band's first skirmishes, he even takes the time to lament the death of a ten-year-old falcon-in-training, remembering the boy's name and expressing regret for having forced the young soldier to join his cause.
The deaths of those fighting for his dream takes its toll on him. In order to cope with their loss and ensure that their deaths are not in vain, Griffith uses ruthless logic and reasoning, placing a higher priority on success than on compassion - paradoxically expressing compassion for his comrades by repressing it. It is not long before he is completely apathetic to the deaths of his comrades. Even then, he still possesses his humanity and questions his immoral plans, asking Guts if he is a cruel person. The high esteem he is held in eventually has an effect on his ego. Despite his affection for his comrades, Griffith comes to believe that they are nonetheless inferior to him, seeing them only as tools to achieve his dream, none of them meeting his standards of a true friend.
Of the tens of thousands of allies and enemies Griffith encounters, Guts is the only one who manages to stifle his ambition and make him forget his dream. He explicitly displays care for Guts, repeatedly risking his life to save the swordsman, and even losing his temper over Guts' endangerment. It is because of this that his ego collapses after Guts leaves; so used to grasping at his every desire, Griffith gives up all logical reasoning in losing his most valuable soldier, throwing away everything he has accomplished, and endangering the Falcon's band after suffering one loss. When he invokes the Eclipse and is presented with a reflection of his true self, he reconciles with who he sees - a martyr to the god named "dream," first and foremost - and accepts the consequences of his ambition.
Griffith's rebirth as Femto causes the crystallization of his ambition, making him oblivious to moral inhibitions and preoccupied only with realizing his dream. However, Femto is essentially the same as Griffith before his rebirth, devoid in particular of his humanity and basic human emotions while still possessing his memories, ambition, and ego. He has proclaimed to be "free"-his heart frozen as a member of the Hand of God. Although extrinsic to Griffith himself, the residual feelings of the child fused into his vessel are enough to compel him to act outside of his immediate interests and even shed a tear as he feels the child's lingering desire. Such sensations are ephemeral for Griffith, however, and he claimed that whatever emotions the child experiences after the child occasionally completely appropriates his vessel disappear immediately after he returns to form.
Background
A child of humble birth, as a youngster Griffith was stricken with poverty, so much so that he sometimes could not afford even a slice of bread. In the cobblestone streets of the back alleys, he played with his fellow street kids, procuring trinkets and calling them victories. Griffith's ambition proved to be higher than that of the other kids, however; in the afternoons, with the sunlight blocked out by the brothels and stately pubs, he looked out at the sunlit castle of the city where he resided. It was on these streets that Griffith decided that acquiring his own kingdom would be his true victory. He finally received his Crimson Beherit in these same streets from an old gypsy fortune teller, who predicted his conquest of the world.
In his teens, he formed the Band of the Hawk, including the miner Pippin, the former bandit Corkus, and the gobbler Judeau. While raising war funds for his fledgling band, Griffith came upon a distressed 12-year-old Casca struggling to free herself from the clutches of a lecherous nobleman. He interrupts the confrontation and slices off the attacker's ear, displeased with the latter's elitist nobility. Rather than kill the would-be rapist himself, he threw his sword to Casca and asked her to wield it if she had anything to protect. With the death of the nobleman and Casca's newfound devotion, Griffith told her she was free to do whatever she wanted, with the girl quickly joining his ranks afterwards.
The big break for the Falcon Gang came when they found themselves in the employ of the wealthy feudal lord Tudor Gennon . Realizing that the perverted nobleman loved her and that Gennon offered a quicker and safer way to build and fund an army, Griffith sold her body to the man in exchange for a substantial fortune to give her band members a better chance of survival.
Golden Age Arch
Meet the guts
Years later, the Falcon Band finds itself under contract to defend a military garrison from a series of mercenary attacks. For three months, the mercenaries manage to hold out in the fort, but with the defeat of Bazuso at the hands of a young mercenary named Guts, and the subsequent blow to the morale of the garrison soldiers, they relinquish control of the fort to the enemy and abandon their post. A day later, some members of the group spot Guts walking along a path near their camp, some of whom decide to pursue him in hopes of taking his recently acquired reward. One by one, they fall victim to Guts' domination. Eventually, Casca also finds himself at the mercenary's mercy; with his closest confidant then in danger, Griffith finally dons his armor and arrives on the scene, intercepting Guts' attack with a spear. He tries to reason with Guts, but to no avail, leaving only the possibility of dismantling and neutralizing the swordsman.
With his interest piqued, Griffith has taken Guts to the nearby mercenary camp and orders Casca to sleep with the wounded mercenary to provide warmth. When Guts finally wakes up, Griffith tries to enlist him, an offer Guts firmly refuses. Eager for revenge, Guts gives Griffith a choice: if he can defeat Guts in a sword fight, he can claim ownership of the mercenary; if he loses, however, he will receive a wound similar to the one he inflicted on Guts a few days earlier. Not one to shy away from the forced acquisition of things he desires, Griffith accepts Guts' terms and engages him in combat. Finally outwitting his opponent, Griffith dislocates Guts' arm and claims the swordsman for himself as a newly enlisted member of his mercenary group.
Ascension
Three years later, when the Band of the Falcon successfully defended the Midland army against the attack of the Black Ram Iron Lance's heavy cavalry, they were enlisted by the kingdom full time in its century-long war against Tudor . As a reward for his valiant defensive efforts, Griffith is knighted by the King of Midland and granted the title of Viscount, finally gaining a peerage among the Midland nobility and taking one step closer to realizing his dream.
While capturing a Tudor fortress, Griffith is informed that a powerful enemy leader is holding back the final push into the inner citadel. He and his forces venture to the fortress to inspect the situation, barely arriving in time to free Guts from the clutches of Apostle Zodd . Ordering his men to retreat as Zodd slaughters the hawk's band for their interference, Griffith sneaks up on Guts to get him to safety. However, Zodd blocks their path, to which the two perform a pincer movement on him, Griffith successfully severing the beast's arm. An enraged Zodd retaliates by whipping Griffith into a nearby pillar, knocking the White Falcon unconscious. As the demon goes in for the kill, he spots Griffith's hanging beherit, shocked that someone like Griffith possesses the legendary "King's Euf." As a result, Zodd stays his hand and walks away, leaving Guts with a cryptic prophecy warning of an inevitable fate that will befall him if Griffith's dream ever collapses.
Brought back to Wyndham to heal his wounds, Griffith recovers and visits Guts on a castle terrace where the latter is training. He begins to reflect on their encounter with Zodd, using it as evidence of things beyond human understanding. Following Griffith's reflection, Guts asks why he would risk his life on behalf of a mere soldier; amused by the question, Griffith responds with one of his own, asking him if he needs a reason every time he risks his life for Guts. Afterwards, they are welcomed by the King of Midland and his brother Julius, leader of the White Dragon Knights. Griffith is soon introduced to the king's shy daughter, Princess Charlotte, catching her as she stumbles down the steps of the terrace. After breaking her fall, Griffith is slapped by Julius for making contact with the princess, to whom Griffith apologizes for his actions with the utmost hypocrisy.
During the autumn hunt, in which the hawk's band acts as the king's guard, Griffith discusses with Charlotte the depravity of men and teaches her to use a leaf as a reed. A boar then emerges from nearby foliage, surprising Charlotte's horse as she and Griffith are separated from the hunting party. After rescuing Charlotte and calming her horse, Griffith is shot with a crossbow from the distant undergrowth. His heritage protects him from what he realizes is a poisoned arrow. Noticing the lethality and cost of the poison used, Griffith deduces that it is the work of General Julius, whom he watches carefully as the knight rides away in the distance.
After gathering information to confirm Julius as the culprit, Griffith instructs Guts to discreetly assassinate his attacker, before leaving for Primrose Hall to attend Charlotte's dinner party. Outside the party, he discusses his ideals and his interpretation of what a true friend is with the princess. Their conversation is interrupted by the news that Julius and Adonis have been murdered by Tudor spies, much to Griffith's delight.
Griffith is later met by Minister Foss, who in an attempt to determine what Griffith knows, hints at a scheme to assassinate the White Falcon. The minister's information gathering ends in vain, with Griffith finally seeing through the ruse and showing no malice toward the hint. Prior to Griffith's deployment to battle, Charlotte offers him a male magnetite in hopes that her female counterpart will bring him back safely from the impending engagement.
Battle for Doldrey
The Band of the Falcon goes into battle against Tudor's Knights of the Blue Whale. In the final moments of the skirmish, Griffith is informed that Guts and Casca have fallen off a cliff. The nobles on the ground warn him not to send soldiers supplied by the king in search of just two mercenaries. Despite their advice, Griffith sends a team, arguing that Guts and Casca are key members of the Falcon's Band that he does not intend to lose.
At a war council meeting after the band's victory, military leaders, including Griffith himself, attempt to formulate a strategy to recapture the Doldrey stronghold, overseen by Gennon in light of the Tudor Civil War. One by one, the officials shoot down the ideas, until Griffith's opinion is sought; he succinctly states that he would retake the fortress if the king ordered it, much to the surprise of the other officials. In the midst of their bickering, the king asks Griffith if his request was sincere, reminding him that even Midland's strongest force, the White Tiger Knights, could not accomplish such a feat. Griffith reassures the king that a large force is not necessary, as he only needs the Falcon's band. Convinced by Griffith's confidence, the king orders the Falcon's Band to retake Doldrey.
Griffith gathers his mercenaries in the Doldrey dust field, splitting his forces in two: one group accompanying him and Guts to lure the Purple Rhino Knights and various other Tudor armies to the river, and the other an infiltration force led by Casca to retake Doldrey itself. In the heat of battle, Griffith catches a glimpse of Guts' duel with Boscogn, slowly filling with apprehension as Guts gradually loses his advantage in the fight. As Guts' chances of survival diminish, a replacement sword suddenly lands in front of him. Griffith immediately orders Guts to take the sword and sees Guts behead Boscogn afterwards. Shortly thereafter, the Purple Rhino Knights look behind them to see a recaptured Doldrey, now in the grip of the Band of the Falcon.
After dealing a heavy blow to the enemy's morale, Griffith orders his mercenaries to slaughter any who oppose them further. As the battle ends and the remnants of Tudor's forces disperse, Griffith approaches a trampled Governor Gennon, who had entered the fray earlier in hopes of seizing Griffith for himself. As Gennon begs for another night of fun with the White Falcon, Griffith informs the governor that he has no feelings for him, as he was only a method of ascension. He then proceeds to drill Gennon in the skull, so as not to embarrass himself with the potential spread of small rumors.
Tombstone of the flames
Upon their victorious return, the Falcon Band receives a profusion of praise from the citizens and officials of Midland, and a victory ball is held to celebrate. Before attending the party, Griffith concocts a scheme to eliminate his political enemies, kidnapping Foss's daughter in order to gain the minister's obedience and sending orders to Foss to round up all members of the court with ill will toward him. Knowing of the Queen of Midland's plan to poison her drink, he has her goblet spiked with a specific nostrum to temporarily simulate her death, in order to give his enemies a false sense of accomplishment. At the ball, the king proclaims the end of the Hundred Years' War, rewarding the Band of the Falcon with the title of White Phoenix Knights and conferring the title of White Phoenix General on Griffith. With the initiation of a toast, Griffith sips from his goblet and falls to the ground.
Once the effects of the nostrum have worn off, Griffith locks his political enemies in the tower in which they have gathered to celebrate his apparent demise and sets it on fire. The queen approaches the window of the tower room and, to her dismay, sees Griffith standing before the tower as the flames engulf it. Griffith reminds his enemies that they are still at war and that the battlefield offers no spectator seats, before leaving to join Foss nearby. Foss, curious as to how Griffith knew about the scheme, asks why he was chosen to help with the project. Griffith recalls the first time they met, informing Foss that the fear in his eyes that day betrayed his malicious intent. Once the matter is resolved, Griffith returns Foss' daughter to him, expressing hope for more friendly relations between them in the future. After paying off the girl's kidnappers, Griffith asks Guts to finalize the details of his plan by murdering the criminals. Before returning to his comrades, he begins to wonder if he himself is cruel. Guts reminds him that projects like the most recent one are only part of the realization of his dream, to which Griffith agrees.
End of a dream.
A month later, Griffith is informed of Guts' withdrawal from the group. He intercepts Guts and decides to duel the swordsman for his freedom, as he did three years earlier. As the two prepare their positions, Griffith shows an obvious lack of composure. He pounces on Guts, having decided if he can't have Guts then no one else will. However, his parry technique is countered and his blade broken in two. Griffith must then mourn his loss as Guts leaves the hawk's band for good.
Defeated and distraught, Griffith seeks out Charlotte the night Guts leaves. He seduces her and puts her to bed, leaving the next morning. Outside the palace, Griffith is arrested by the Midland guards for treason. He is taken to a torture chamber in the Renaissance Tower, where he is repeatedly whipped by the king, who reprimands him for betraying his trust and defiling the royal house. Griffith aggravates the situation by inferring the king's lust for his own daughter, as well as claiming that his reign has been a miserable stagnation. Furious, the king orders Griffith's year-long torture, specifically demanding the prolonged suffering of the White Falcon.
Fallen Falcon
During his year-long imprisonment, Griffith is subjected to numerous methods of torture, ranging from slashing and lacerating tendons to skinning and scalding. During the brief moments he is left alone between torture sessions, Griffith is in darkness, with only thoughts of his dream and Guts keeping him alive. He experiences a vision of demonic figures - who refer to him as the "Blessed King of Desire" and claim to be his parents - seeking an audience with him at the appropriate time and place.
A year later, a rescue team consisting of Guts, Casca, Judeau and Pippin, with the help of Charlotte, arrives to get Griffith out of the tower. Griffith awakens to the sight of a grief-stricken Guts. Without hesitation, he weakly attempts to strangle his former comrade before ceasing to see the regret in Guts' eyes. After the jailer divulges the gruesome details of Griffith's torture and is murdered by Guts, the group makes their way through a wave of Midland soldiers before escaping underground. In the sewers of Wyndham, they are attacked by a group of five Bakiraka assassins sent to kill Griffith; after dispatching four of the assassins and escaping the capital through the sewers, the rescue team retreats to a nearby farm.
The group soon leaves the farm and heads for the Midland border, only to find that they are being followed by the Black Dog Knights . One trap after another, the Black Dog Knights continue to pursue them until the Falcon's Band confronts them. As the battle ensues and Guts begins to overpower their leader, Wyald , a Griffith unable to watch can only look sideways, unable to even grasp a sword. When it appears that Guts has finally triumphed over Wyald, the beast rises once more and grabs Griffith, stripping the invalid and exposing the extent of his wounds; he insists that the mercenaries' hopes of past glory under Griffith's leadership are futile, and then asks Griffith to invoke the "Hand of God." To his dismay, As a result, Wyald decides to kill the man, but Zodd intervenes and tears the Dog Knight in half, and tells Griffith that his Crimson Beherit will soon return to him before flying away.
Having reached the Midland border, the Falcon Gang reconciles with Griffith's injuries, accepting that he will never fight again. When Casca arrives in Griffith's car to change his bandages, Griffith forces himself on her, but is only met with resistance at first, however, she eventually hugs him out of pity. Shortly thereafter, Griffith overhears a tender moment between Guts and Casca, from which he learns that the two witnessed his description of a "friend" at Primrose Hall and overhears Casca urging Guts to leave again if he is truly Griffith's friend.
Eclipse
Prompted by a vision of his former self to continue, Griffith gathers the strength to commandeer the unattended carriage in pursuit of his dream castle. The carriage eventually crashes into a lake, sending him soaring through the air; in that brief moment of flight, he has another vision of a potential life with Casca before regaining his senses and landing in the water below. Stripped of everything he holds dear, he attempts to pierce his throat on a sharp, protruding tree root to no avail, inflicting only a slight gash on his neck. As Griffith sits facing the water, unable to engage, his legacy surfaces from the bottom of the lake. Blood from his neck slowly trickles down his arm and makes contact with the beherit, causing it to come to life. The group following him approaches, just as a solar eclipse begins and demonic figures approach. Unable to be careful, Griffith and his comrades are suddenly transported to another dimension.
As Griffith is assisted by Guts, the demons reveal that they are at the site of the Eclipse. From the depths of the dimension come the four members of the Hand of God, the largest of whom welcomes the Falcon Gang to the "night festival," and reveals that Griffith's ascension into their ranks was preordained by causality . It is then revealed that Griffith's aforementioned rebirth as a demon of the divine hand will require a sacrifice - a sacrifice ultimately willed by Griffith himself.
He is then taken into the deepest recesses of his conscious being, where he remembers his dream and the efforts he made to achieve it. Seeing the mound of corpses metaphorically responsible for his ascent, he concludes that to stop piling them up now would only mean the senseless demise of his dream. Accepting who he really is and realizing that Guts was the only one who made him forget his dream, Griffith accepts the consequences of his choice and utters "I sacrifice," causing all of his comrades to mark him.
A one-sided massacre is then initiated, with nearly every member of the group being gratuitously murdered as a sacrifice for Griffith's ascension. Meanwhile, Griffith becomes incorporeal, descending metaphysically into the depths of the Abyss where he comes to better understand human nature and causality, as well as the ultimate role he must play in the designs of the supreme being served by the Hand of God. [56]After all, with the exception of Guts and Casca, Griffith, now christened "Femto," appears in his new form as the fifth member of the God Hand. He immediately descends to Guts, who is trapped, and signals to a demon to bring Casca to him. Without hesitation, Femto proceeds to rape Casca in front of Guts, intending to force him to watch. After finishing with Casca, the Skull Knight encroaches on the Eclipse. Femto uses her new powers to form a gravity well of demons around the intruder, but with little success, as the Skull Knight is able to escape the time junction unscathed with Guts and Casca in tow. Despite the turn of events, the divine hand greets Femto's birth and concludes the eclipse by ushering in an age of darkness - "An age when all darkness will eclipse the light.
Black Swordsman's Bow
As a deep astral entity, Femto is unable to return to the physical world, being able to manifest only in the interstices . When the Count is mortally wounded by Guts, the hand of God is invoked by the cry of the apostle's heir. Enraged at the mere sight of his former comrade, Guts attacks Femto, but is immediately repelled by Femto's gravity manipulation powers. With Guts heavily incapacitated, Femto informs the Count that he only needs to sacrifice his daughter, Theresia, to gain a new life. The Count is unwilling to make the sacrifice and is thus dragged into the Abyss. In a last ditch effort to hurt his sworn enemy, Guts uses his cannon arm to attack Femto again, this attack also being repelled by the demon. With the demise of the Count, the time junction ends and the Hand of God disappears as a result.
Condemnation arch
A series of events unfold, from a plague to the Kushan invasion of Midland by Emperor Ganishka, while the distraught King of Midland spends his final hours searching endlessly for Griffith. The Midland masses have a common dream, one that prophesies the coming of an exalted savior as the "Hawk of Light." The refugees of Midland converge in the Tower of Conviction in the ruined city of Albion where an egg-shaped apostle lives, acting as a mass sacrifice in an Eclipse-like event known as the Incarnation Ceremony in which Femto incarnates into the physical world as Griffith. As the Hawk of Light, Griffith appears before Zodd in a vision, metaphysically wounding the apostle in bondage and asking him to surrender to Albion.
Prior to the initiation of the ceremony, the egg-shaped apostle swallows a dying demon child while climbing the ruined Tower of Conviction, where he decrees the Incarnation Ceremony. At the top of the tower, the restless spirits of Albion's dead engulf the tower where the apostle is located, the demon child's fetal form is simultaneously stripped of its deformities and merged with the rapidly maturing physical vessel containing Femto's essence. At the end of his incarnation, Griffith emerges from the apostle's egg-shaped body, subsequently killing the being as the tower is completely destroyed and making his presence known to all as he bathes in the sunlight at dawn. He is then escorted by Zodd, to avoid the onslaught of Kushan soldiers sent to capture him.

Meeting on the Hill of Swords
Shortly after the Incarnation ceremony, Griffith finds Rickert and Guts on the Hill of Swords, where he proclaims that even in the sea of tombstones of his sacrificed comrades, he feels nothing. A triggered Guts rushes at Griffith, but is deflected by Zodd, leading to a fierce battle between the two. Thought to have been frozen long ago, Griffith feels the faint beat of his heart, deducing that the feelings are those of the child who has merged into his vessel.
Guts and Zodd's confrontation results in the destruction of Godot's mine, just as Casca races to the scene. As airborne rocks from Zodd's destructive resurgence fly towards Casca, Griffith unhesitatingly dresses her in his cape, protecting her from the falling debris. Immediately afterwards, Griffith orders Zodd to cease his battle and leaves with the beast to fulfill his dream. Before leaving, Griffith informs Rickert and Guts that nothing has changed, telling the former that he is welcome to pursue the aforementioned dream again, and the latter that he should know the kind of person Griffith has always been.
Liberating Midland
Griffith heads for the western city of Shet, one of the many Midland cities under siege by the Kushan. Appearing in the compound on top of a horse, as if from nowhere, Griffith approaches the unit general and kills him with a shot to the eye. A volley of retaliatory arrows is fired by the Kushan soldiers in Griffith's direction, but to no avail, as they all miss their target. Before a second volley can be fired, Zodd arrives and devastates the unit with a frontal killing track. The thrust of a stray spear mows down another group of Kushan soldiers, wielded by the Moonlight Knight Locus . The knight reveals that he has been sent under the direction of an oracle and asks to join Griffith's ranks, to which Griffith adheres. As the large-scale devastation of the Kushan unit continues, Griffith is thrown from behind by two muscular Kushans . His attackers are repelled by an exiled Bakiraka assassin named Rakshas . The exile offers his help to Griffith, claiming that he will not let any harm come to Griffith, only so that he can behead the white falcon himself one day. Suddenly, a knight in Naga armor bursts through the door of the fortress and, with his scale-covered flamethrower and great hammer, single-handedly decimates a division of Kushan soldiers. The four apostles soon dispatch the entire Kushan unit and then kneel before Griffith in an oath of allegiance.
Defense of Vritannis
Griffith and his new band of the falcon continue to liberate areas of the Midland under Kushan occupation and manage to rescue Princess Charlotte from the capture of Emperor Ganishka. At some point after the rescue of the princess, Griffith sends Sonia and Mule Wolflame to retrieve His Holiness the Pontiff and deliver a message, "If you want to seize destiny in your hand, follow the guidance of the feathers of light. "
The Imperial Kushan army finally organizes an attack on the holy port city of Vritannis , considerably crushing the forces of the Holy See Alliance . The Falcon Band joins the fray just when all seems lost, easily quelling the siege and reducing the strength of the Kushan army. Griffith enters Ganishka's mobile palace, where he brings the Emperor to heel and agrees to have their final showdown at Wyndham, forcing the Emperor to withdraw his forces.
Meeting with prominent officials of the Holy See Alliance after the successful defense, Charlotte formally announces her engagement to Griffith, and confers upon her fiancé the position of Supreme Commander of the Regular Army of Midland. Federico de Vandimion refutes Midland's claim to hegemony over the forces of the Holy See that should set foot on the soil of his kingdom, asserting that an alliance between Midland and other nations of the Holy See in the name of the pontiff would be of greater good. The pontiff himself then arrives, verifying Griffith's role as the prophesied hawk of light, and pledging allegiance to him.
End of the worldly reason
Forced to retreat from Vritannis after being overwhelmed by Griffith, a vexed Ganishka lowers himself into an artificial Beherit in order to transcend the apostasy. In his mist form, he sacrifices all the monsters and Kushan present in his demonic city of Wyndham. As a result, Ganishka is reincarnated twice as a huge supernatural abomination. Griffith has his strength to fight the emperor's familiars as he rides Zodd to Ganishka's head to confront the turbulent apostle-emperor.
In his freed form, Femto approaches Ganishka, but is ambushed by the Skull Knight, who attempts to shoot him from behind with the sword of Beherits . Femto reveals that he has anticipated the Skull Knight's intervention and distorts space to redirect the space-splitting sword strike towards Ganishka. This causes a chain reaction with Ganishka's twice-reincarnated form, triggering the great roar of the astral world and causing the physical and astral realms to merge into one global interstice - Fantasia . Descending in human form to the summit of Zodd, Griffith leads his followers to his new capital, Falconia.
Fancy bow
Upon learning of Rickert's arrival in Falconia, Griffith welcomes the youngster into his palace, where he asks if Rickert still shares his dream. Rickert - torn between the miracles and the atrocities caused by his former commander - in turn slaps Griffith. While Rickert admits that he can never truly bear his former commander's hatred, he tells Griffith that he is a follower of the White Falcon he once knew, and of the original Falcon Band, and that the Light Falcon before him is not his leader. . Griffith prevents his guards from attacking his former comrade, allowing Rickert to leave the palace while reassuring those present that the altercation was a simple rejection.
Griffith and the Falcon Gang are busy reclaiming the Midland lands lost to the influx of astral beings into Fantasia. Around the same time, Griffith reveals to Falconia's council members his intentions for Midland and humanity: to give birth to a vast territory for humanity - a "second empire" to succeed Genseric's empire of old. On a subsequent full moon night, Griffith noticed that some strands in a braid of his hair apparently bore a darker hue. Anticipating a recurrence of a particular phenomenon on this night, he disappeared into the night sky shortly thereafter.
Capabilities
Fencing
Griffith has always been an exceptional swordsman. With his precise piercing, he dispatched many enemies with a single stroke of his sword, able to easily pierce vitals if he so desired. To combat denser and larger swords, he uses a skillful parrying technique of using the weight of the opponent's sword against them, deflecting the larger blade to the side of his narrow sword to create openings for offensive strikes. During the Defense of Vritannis, he single-handedly eliminates Emperor Ganishka's imperial guard - at least 12 in number - in quick succession with his one sword. Griffith's cutting power is also considerable; as a human, he is able to completely sever Zodd's arm in a pincer movement alongside Guts, making him the second man in 300 years to wound the apostle.
Hand-to-hand combat
In his first duel with Guts, Griffith displays enough hand-to-hand combat prowess to pin Guts in a submission position and dislocate the swordsman's arm.
Charisma
Even before his rebirth, Griffith is a magnetic figure who easily awakens admiration and devotion. His vaunted physical appearance in conjunction with his attractiveness and persuasiveness make his presence undeniable and his ambitious dream as captivating as ever. The reach of his charm is only enhanced by his legendary success, with people from all walks of life admiring his lofty rise from nothing. Even among the Midland nobility, Griffith operates as effectively as he does in battle, his illustrious personality winning the affection of nobles and commoners alike.
Griffith's incarnation increases his already staggering charisma tenfold. With his return to the Physical World, the idolatry he once aroused turns to exaltation, his presence now rightly described as inhuman by the affected devotees. Inducing submission in others is an effortless task for him; even highly revered individuals such as His Holiness the Pontiff collapse to their knees upon first meeting him. Most revealing of his new influence is the alliance he has formed between the devil and humanity, leading both the "sinful black sheep" and the "blind white sheep," according to the prophecy of the Holy See's scriptures.
Beauty
After his incarnation, Griffith's beauty was so profound that it drew the admiration of a group of soldiers from the Holy See Alliance. On several occasions, his witnesses described him as picturesque and like a painting. Even apostles such as Rakshas and Ganishka recognized Griffith as beautiful, the former wanting to take Griffith's face for himself and the latter wanting to sully Griffith's beauty. Her beauty, in conjunction with her charisma, plays a central role in her seduction of others.
Leadership and tactics
As leader of the original band of falcon, Griffith led his band of mercenaries to many victories during the Hundred Years' War, and is renowned throughout the continent for never losing to his Tudor opponents. After his incarnation, Griffith commands many of the most fearsome known apostles, who are at his disposal as his "beak and talons". In addition, Griffith is the supreme commander of the regular Midland army and, as such, commands all human soldiers serving in the Midland army.
His natural tactical genius is only enhanced by his keen perception of causality as a member of the Divine Hand. Furthermore, with Sonia's help, Griffith is able to discern the heart of enemy forces and take down enemy leaders in a single attack, plunging his enemies into panic and disarray; Griffith has used the tactic of striking at the heart of an enemy force in many of his most important military engagements after his incarnation.
Transcendence of morality
All of the human inhibitions that forced Griffith to question the moral implications of pursuing his dream are no longer a part of him after his rebirth as Femto. He is now solely concerned with the realization of his dream and is completely apathetic about the morality of those he strives to achieve his goals.
The quasi-absoluteness
After his transcendence in Femto, Griffith no longer exists in the reasons of the physical world and, as such, is invulnerable to almost all mortal opposition - an existence that no single man can rival. His absolute character is akin to that of the author of a story; those who participate in his fable have no chance of ever challenging him. Fate and fortune are thus on his side, which, along with his now overwhelming charisma and his enormous od, effectively guarantee his dominance.
Causal awareness
As a member of the Divine Hand, Femto is able to perceive the flow of causality to an extent unmatched by any other except his fellow demon rulers. With such perception and the ability to exert his will upon the world, he is able to precisely use cause and effect to achieve any result he desires. He is not, however, omniscient and cannot predict everything.
Spatial manipulation
More clearly astral is Femto's ability to manipulate gravity and space. He has manipulated repulsive force to repel physical attacks, as well as created gravity wells to catch enemies with an invisible pull capable of crushing the afflicted into oblivion. Most notable is his ability to warp and distort space, which he used to easily grab a spatial tear from Beherits' sword and redirect it entirely.
Air travel
As a natural consequence of the form he takes during his rebirth, Femto is able to fly, by means of "black raven wings on which [he] will rise [...] higher than any peak".
Communicate
Griffith has demonstrated his ability to commune with the souls of the dead and is able to manifest their lost consciousnesses to give them one last opportunity to bid farewell to the world.Weaknesses
Ship's rocket
If sufficiently stimulated, the child fused into Griffith's new vessel is able to momentarily take control of Griffith's body.
Transformation on full moon nights
During the duration of the full moon nights, Griffith is subjected to a phenomenon leading to the transformation of his ship and its total appropriation by the Moonlight Boy .
Those outside his "story
Griffith's absolute extends only to mortals who are unable to ever truly reach his astral self. The Skull Knight suggests that someone existing outside of Griffith's "story"-someone who, like Griffith, also exists beyond the bounds of mortals-is sufficient to at least confront Griffith.
Equipment
White Falcon Armor (I-III)
As a human, Griffith wore four major versions of body armor as the leader of the original Falcon band. His first iteration was simplistic in design, worn by him during the band's nascent years. His second iteration was not a significant departure from his first, with the most notable differences being the armor's augmented shoulder pads, more detailed breastplate and plackart piece, and added tassets. His third iteration featured more protective shoulder pads, a more typical breastplate and placket piece, additional thighs, and most notably the addition of a visored sallet with avian designs; it was worn by him during his first encounters with Guts.
White Falcon Armor IV
The fourth notable iteration of Griffith's armor was a significant improvement over his third, worn by him from the time the Falcon Band joined the Midland war effort until the Battle of Doldrey. It was a silvery white armor full of highly detailed plates, further distinguishing him as a leader. He wore the same bird-themed sallet from his third iteration with this armor. Additionally, the durability of the armor was considerable, able to withstand an attack from Zodd in his released form and then be thrown into a pillar of a column.
Fallen Falcon Armor
After being rescued from the Renaissance Tower, a crippled Griffith was placed in full plate armor by Guts as a reminder of the victorious leader he once was. While not as complete as his fourth armor, lacking plated gauntlets and not as ornate overall, it did feature leggings unlike his previous armors.
- Torture Mask: to mock the iconic leader Griffith, his torturer places a mask on him resembling his previous bird-themed sallet. Griffith wore the helmet from the time of his rescue until his rebirth during the eclipse.
Light armor falcon
The full plate silver-white armor Griffith wears after his incarnation is the most ornate of all the armor he has worn. The armor is considerably ornate with avian motifs, with almost every component of the plate bearing some degree of feathered pattern and the right epaulette extending into a striking wing. It features both leggings and espadrilles, unlike Griffith's previous armor. In addition, the sallet is more refined and has more pronounced avian patterns, with more contoured eyeholes on the visor, as well as a feather patterned brim and neck.
Battle horse
Griffith always enters the battlefield atop a white warhorse. Since donning the third iteration of his white hawk armor, Griffith's warhorse is clad in silver-white facial armor and adorned with a pink-white sheet. As a light falcon, Griffith's warhorse has even more pronounced avian designs, including more angular silver-white facial armor and an additional winged breastplate. Despite being clad in such armor, the horse's mobility is not hindered; on the contrary, Griffith's warhorse is able to reach exceptional speeds and make incredible jumps over groups of enemies. The horse's reins are covered with a deep pink white cloth and the sheet that adorns the horse is also deep pink, making both look like floating feathers.
Sabre
Griffith almost always opted for a sword as his weapon of choice.
Remarks
- The official Berserk guide states that around the time of the Fantasia arc, Griffith is 24 years old, 178 cm and 66 kg. (NOTE: the official Berserk guide is very questionable in its veracity).
- The name "Femto" for Griffith's divine hand is a mathematical prefix for 1/1,000,000,000,000,000. It is one quadrillionth, or one millionth of a billionth of the unit of measurement for which this prefix is used (a femtosecond is one quadrillionth of a second, a femtometer is one quadrillionth of a meter, etc.).
- In a vision Griffith has after commandeering a carriage, he sees his paralyzed self living a quiet life, with Casca as his lover and guardian. Together they have a son named Guts and a dog named Pippin.
- In the golden years of Band of the Falcon, Griffith studies various fields of study in his spare time, including history, religion, philosophy, chemistry, tactics, cosmetics, cooking, etc. his reason for doing so being that, "To become great, you have to be able to do more than fight.''
- After Griffith's incarnation, Midlanders often remark that he now possesses an untouchable, inhuman presence.
