Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku, codename CV01, was the first Japanese VOCALOID to be both developed and distributed by Crypton Future Media, Inc. It was originally released in August 2007 for the VOCALOID2 engine and was the first member of the Character Vocal series. She was the seventh VOCALOID in total, as well as the second VOCALOID2 voice to be released for the engine. Her voice is provided by Japanese actress Saki Fujita.

Concept

Crypton had the idea to release Miku as "an android diva in a near world where songs are lost".

Etymology

The name was chosen by combining hatsu ("first"), ne ("sound") and Miku (a personal name that shares its spelling with the word "future"). So it means "the first sound of the future". His name was based on his conception of the moment when a sound is pronounced for the first time

Its code name "CV01" means "Character Voice 01".

Its name in Chinese is "Chūyīn Wèilái" ( simplified Chinese:初音未来; traditional Chinese:初音未來).

Apparence

When KEI illustrated Miku, he was given a color scheme to work with (based on the blue-green color characteristic of YAMAHA synthesizers) and was asked to draw Miku as an android. Crypton also provided KEI with the detailed concepts of Miku, however, Crypton stated that it was not easy to explain what a "Vocaloid" was to him. KEI stated that he could not create an image of a "singing computer" at first, as he did not even know what a "synthesizer" was. It took him over a month to complete the commission.

Miku was originally going to have a different hairstyle, but after trying the braids, KEI thought they were more appropriate. Her pigtails have since become an iconic part of her design. On June 22, 2012, Hatsune Miku's twin tails even earned her the title of Twin Tail that best represented the 2000s, marking her as the best Twin Tails series of the early 21st century. She now shares her Twin Tail distinction with other characters like Sailor Moon (who won Best Twin Tails in the 90s).

The digital design of Miku's skirt and boots is based on the colors of the synthesizer program, and the bars represent the actual bars of the program, according to Crypton's ideas. Part of her design is based on some of YAMAHA's keyboard models, especially the DX-100 and DX-7.

The thin squares around its mats are futuristic ribbons made of a special material that floats in place. As seen in KEI's art for Miku, they are able to hold Miku's pigtails in place without having to physically touch the hair itself. The ribbons are also reported by KEI to be the most difficult element for cosplayers to recreate on the character design.

After an Internet meme involving Hachune Miku , Miku was associated with a spring onion (often mistaken for a leek due to its similar appearance). This, along with KAITO's association with ice cream, started a discussion called the "item war" within the VOCALOID fandom, where it became traditional for new VOCALOIDs to be assigned an item and items were debated until one was blocked via the Internet . Meme. This event has since died out.

Its design VOCALOID2 Append is often subject to censorship. In the original design, there is a strip of bare flesh under the attachment area. In many representations, this strip of bare flesh is not shown and is covered. For example, while the Max Factory models display the uncensored version in their normal and Figma models, the Project Diva game series is reluctant to show any exposure.

History

Miku's initial marketing was similar to the old software synthesizers and VOCALOID voice banks, and was the standard marketing for the software at the time of its release. For the most part, much of it was centered on DTM MAGAZINE, like MEIKO and KAITO before it, since the magazine's readership had greatly influenced those two former VOCALOIDs. The only pre-planned promotion was with the November 2007 issue of DTM MAGAZINES - due to the inclusion of a CD with Miku's demo on it, this particular issue sold out. When Hatsune Miku was on pre-order, it was noted that MEIKO and KAITO had no prospects of receiving updates and that Miku would be reprising their roles in the future.

It was originally intended only for professional producers; the amateur and Otaku market was not yet fully formed, so it was not initially considered. For a variety of reasons, Miku received unexpected commercial success. Due to Miku's popularity boom, Crypton was fortunate to enjoy Miku's early technical support, and several guides and magazine materials were published that focused solely on his voice. This type of technical coverage was even possible long after Miku's initial release, and the methods of adapting her voice are the best documented among the voices of the VOCALOID2 era.

Since the success of her voice bank led to an expansion of marketing possibilities, most mass marketing came after her initial release in response to her popularity. Even with the addition of other voice characters, Miku's name continues to be used as the primary marketing source for Crypton Future Media. In March 2012, the Nomura Research Institute estimated that sales of all "Hatsune Miku" branded products totaled approximately ¥10,000,000,000 since its release in 2007.

Miku's name is now the easiest of all VOCALOIDs to market. Also due to its popularity, many VOCALOID-related products such as piano sheet music packs, books and magazines have its image on the cover. Around January 28, 2013, a 3-day survey was conducted by Tokyo Polytechnic University. In the survey (based on ages 12 to 38), 95% of those entering said they knew who Hatsune Miku was, in comparison, participants barely knew who Megpoid , IA or Aoki Lapis were .

Corolla Miku, introduced in 2011, wears a slightly different outfit from KEI's original design: instead of a striped skirt and single floating ribbons, she now has two, as intended by the client.

In 2011, Crypton began focusing on marketing Miku to the U.S. public. On May 7, U.S. Amazon previewed Supercell's hit song, "World is Mine," as a single. When the song finally went on sale, it ranked #7 on the top 10 global singles list on iTunes in its first week of sales.

The entry was introduced as "The World is Mine Feat. Hatsune Miku." Crypton had to think about who Miku's ads were aimed at (mainly the web fan base) and had to check the differences between the Japanese and English fan communities. Since Crypton had always sold Miku as a virtual instrument in Japan, they asked their Japanese fans if it was acceptable for them to sell her as a virtual singer to the new market audience. The main purpose of the English version of Miku is to enable Japanese producers to break into the West and also to expand their audience.

Crypton Future Media does not approve of using Miku in politics. This is, so far, one of the biggest areas of marketing that Miku has avoided being used for. However, Hatsune Miku has sung the theme song of Japanese national election candidate Yoshikazu Tarui. Despite this, her mascot was not used; instead, a pink girl with two tails nicknamed Android Rui replaced her.

Crypton Future Media also filed a trademark application on June 26, 2012. When the tsunami hit Japan in 2011, Miku was chosen as the character that would help represent Japan. This was because of how often her image appeared with many young people who knew who she was. She was already featured in music-based textbooks and her influence on music was widely known to Japan's Minister of Education. The fact that products with Miku can sell quickly makes her attractive even to slow-growth industries. Products with Miku on them can even sell out at public events within 30 minutes of the events opening to the public. This helps fuel marketing even in craft trades, as fans are drawn to these "one-of-a-kind" products.

Starting March 15, 2021, Crypton Future Media announced a collaboration with the "Hatsune Miku Chronicle" art exhibition (初音ミク・クロニクル) entitled "Hatsune Miku Chronicle × piapro "What If You Draw? "Hatsune Miku" Software Package Illustration recruitment!"(もしもあなたが描いたら?「初音ミク」ソフトウェアパッケージイラスト募集! ), A special recruitment for users to draw their own original character named "Hatsune Miku" while keeping the basic profile, image and color settings used for Hatsune Miku's original 2007 artwork, with the winning illustration being turned into a special software package based on the submitted artwork. The winning artwork would be displayed at the planned "Hatsune Miku Chronicle" art exhibition to be held in 2021.Over the course of four months, users were able to submit illustrations to Piapro using the tag "#クロニクル_ミクif." Coinciding with the recruitment, Good Smile Company announced a new Nendoroid figure based on the original Hatsune Miku design now known as Hatsune Miku si Ver. (初音ミク si Ver.). A finalized illustration of the original KEI design was also announced.

Hatsune Miku-OriginalDesigned to be a cute, high-pitched and young Japanese singer, the voice is that of a non-professional singer and represents a voice result. It has a strong attack and is known for its fairly high adaptability and morphing ability. Due to its high uses among Japanese producers, the voice was considered both "The VOCALOID" voice bank, as well as the "standard" voice among the use of VOCALOID, the voice itself was intended to replace KAITO and MEIKO of VOCALOID . Miku was created to have remarkable vocal features compared to MEIKO. It was also the first voice for VOCALOID2 designed for VOCALOID2 itself.
