Apparence
Ichigo's most recognizable feature is his firecracker orange haircut, a feature that has earned him mockery for years. He is quite tall, thin, with light skin and brown eyes. He likes to wear tight clothes and tends to wear t-shirts with the number 15 in the design because his first name is a namesake of that number. His sister Karin notices that he has become more muscular since he became a Shinigami. When he is in his spirit form, Ichigo wears the standard Shinigami outfit, plus a belt on his chest. This was originally a thick brown belt used to carry the scabbard of his Zanpakutō, later becoming a red strap. Ichigo's appearance is reminiscent of Kaien Shiba, the former lieutenant of the thirteenth division. After his training in the Dangai, Ichigo's hair is considerably longer and he is noticeably taller, as noticed by his friends. When Ichigo loses his Shinigami powers, his appearance becomes similar to the one he had before his training in the Dangai.
Seventeen months after the victory against Aizen, Ichigo's appearance has not changed much, but he has become taller and has grown sideburns. After regaining his powers, Ichigo's Shinigami outfit has changed. He wears a thicker strap on his torso, has four vertical black lines on his forearms, and some kind of black band tattooed on his torso, wrists and ankles. There are similar bands that differ only in their white ends around his neck, like necklaces. After training at the Royal Palace, Ichigo wears his standard black shihakushō, but with a few changes: he has two white shoulder plates meeting in an X shape on his torso that hold his shikai in place. The plate on his left shoulder has three sections decorated with red scales and a white veil with black markings and wrapped around his waist.
Personality
He has always been different from other people, not only because of his physique (since he naturally has orange hair) but also because he sees ghosts. A rather dark, direct, even boorish character, Ichigo is very protective of his friends and family. However, his ability to see ghosts and the fact that he has to hide it make him quite reserved. He lost his mother when he was young and feels responsible because she died to protect him while he was trying to "save" a ghost that turned out to be the bait of a Hollow. From this tragedy, he feels a certain responsibility towards his sisters, whom he leaves unaware of the dangers he faces. He has also become much more mature and independent since Rukia's arrival.
In class, Ichigo is hard-working, serious and attentive, knowing that his hair color could have made him look like a bad boy if he did poorly, so he does everything to get good grades so that his teachers will leave him alone. In the course of the story, he goes from being an enemy of the Soul Society to being a recognized and respected substitute shinigami. It is difficult to judge his status among the Vizards. His power earns him the respect of most Shinigami, especially the 11th Division, for whom combat power is the only criterion of judgment, and the 13th Division. Others view him with disdain as a lowly outsider.
Because of his constant struggles with bullies and his permanent scowl (he doesn't frown when he sleeps), many students are rather afraid of him. Despite this, he has a warm and kind heart, is defiant, looks out for those in his care, and is, to a degree, quite compassionate once another point of view is understood. What emanates from Zangetsu is sadness. Rukia even says, in the first film, that "he looks scary". This characteristic makes him very suitable for children. As such, he has not threatened or almost never raised his voice towards his little sisters, Karin and Yuzu (only once, and one wonders who was attacked). However, he has problems with traditional authority and respect, and is often quite rude and disrespectful when talking about himself to older people. Although he is not supposed to be rude, he has a tendency to call Captain General Yamamoto "grandfather" and to refer to certain captains (including Kenpachi, Byakuya, and Hitsugaya) by name, despite verbal protests from Byakuya and Hitsugaya (Hitsugaya suggests at one point that Ichigo does this on purpose). However, he uses Japanese honorific formulas for a number of people, such as Urahara, Yoruichi, Unohana, Komamura, Kyōraku, and Ukitake.
Relations
Ichigo has met many different characters over the course of the series, ranging from family, friends and allies to enemies and rivals. His interaction with these characters leads him to form strong bonds and rivalries. Some of these friendships began in childhood, others over the course of the series. Ichigo has not shown any romantic feelings to any of the characters in the series.
However, he is very close to Rukia (which is why Orihime is jealous) and admits it.
