Itachi Uchiwa (うちはイタチ, Uchiha Itachi) was a member of the Anbu from the famous Uchiwa clan of Konoha village. He killed his clan members in what would later be known as the Uchiwa Clan Massacre and deserted his village, becoming an S-rank desert ninja (Nukenin) and a member of the Akatsuki who became partners with Kisame Hoshigaki.

History
Itachi was only 4 years old during the Third Great Ninja War. He saw his family members die and was traumatized. It was from this that he developed pacifist ideals and a desire to protect Konoha from war.
He was an extremely gifted ninja (from a young age he quickly mastered the Sharingan) who became the pride of his father, Fugaku. The people of Konoha recognized his formidable (and early) advancement in the ninja hierarchy of the village. He became a genin at the age of seven, mastered the Sharingan at the age of eight, became a chûnin at the age of ten and became a captain in the Anbu special sections at the age of 13.
This was a time when he was close to his younger brother Sasuke, who was relatively introverted because of his older brother's exceptional talent. But when he discovered some truths about his clan in relation with his talent and more precisely the Mangekyô Sharingan, his relationship with his family deteriorated little by little.
Indeed, the Uchiwa clan had enough of being left out of the political affairs of the village after Kyûbi's attack seven years before. So they decided to make a coup d'état in order to put Fugaku, their leader, in power. Itachi, being part of the Anbu, was sent as a spy, but his pacifist ideals were exploited by Danzô Shimura who made him a spy for Konoha with the Uchiwa. This was known only to Danzo, Koharu Utatane, Homura Mitokado and the Third Hokage. The latter tried to solve the problem with diplomacy but without success.
Following his meeting with Madara Uchiwa who revealed to him the history and the birth of the clan, he discovered among other things that the Sharingan could "mutate" into an improved version of the Sharingan, offering new techniques specific to this type of dôjutsu: the Mangekyô Sharingan, on the sole condition of killing his best friend. Some members of the clan suspected him of being responsible for the death of Shisui, his best friend, who would have committed suicide. The truth was that Shisui possessed the Mangekyo Sharingan like Itachi and that he was coveted by many people including Danzo who stole his right eye. Shisui then gave his left eye to Itachi before dying and making his body disappear.
After a meeting with the Third Hokage, Homura Mitokado, Koharu Utatane and Danzo where they discussed how to deal with the Uchiwa Clan, Itachi was summoned by Danzo who explained the reaction of Konoha if the coup took place. He proposed the mission of eliminating his entire clan before the coup to save his innocent brother and Itachi accepted. Soon after, he found Tobi pretending to be Madara Uchiwa and made a deal with him to slaughter the Uchiwa clan.
Finally, he received the mission to massacre his clan and he killed one by one all the members of his clan, including his parents, except Sasuke. Itachi then told his little brother that if he wanted to take revenge, he had to possess the Mangekyo Sharingan and said "If you want to defeat me, hate me, hate me, and survive by all means". He disappeared from Konoha at the end of that terrible evening after shedding some tears.
At that time he mentioned the existence of a third Uchiwa still alive, revealing to Sasuke that if Sasuke obtained the Mangekyô Sharingan, he would be the third Uchiwa able to activate and use it after Madara Uchiwa and Fugaku Uchiwa, his father.
He went to the Third Hokage and asked for his protection for Sasuke and left Konoha for the rest of his life.
He then joined the Akatsuki (a criminal terrorist organization made up of nine S-ranked ninjas) in order to watch Tobi (claiming to be Madara Uchiwa) who was the unofficial leader of the organization. His ring features the kanji "Purple" (朱, Shu) on a red background, which he wore on his right ring finger. On behalf of this organization, he searched for Naruto Uzumaki to extract Kyûbi, the nine-tailed fox demon sealed in his body (he also searched for the other eight demons).
In the Akatsuki, he initially teamed up with Orochimaru until the latter left the organization after failing to take Itachi's eyes, then he teamed up with Kisame Hoshigaki, who was his comrade in arms until the agony of the Akatsuki's reign. Itachi was at the origin of Deidara's association with the Akatsuki, and provoked the departure of Orochimaru, having defeated him thanks to his Sharingan while he was trying to steal his body. We could see throughout the chapters that his devotion to the Akatsuki was unfailing. Itachi was still a character whose motivations were revealed in bits and pieces.
During this period, he grafted Shisui's left eye onto a crow and gave the command "Protect Konoha" to the Kotoamatsukami technique so that if Sasuke decided to graft his eyes, the crow, attracted by Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan, would use it on him to force him to defend Konoha.
Personality
From a young age, Itachi was quiet and insightful, showing notable maturity for his age and knowledge on how to deal with all situations. At the same time, Itachi was still quite naive as a child in many real-world scenarios, and as such, he was willing to learn from his peers about how to differentiate certain situations.[5] He lived from a distance, observing individuals and ideas without direct involvement in order to be able to fully understand them.[6] Although this approach prevented him from getting close to many people, it allowed him to think and act without making prejudices, while assessing things in the most fair way possible. In the anime, Itachi unwittingly gained many friends and admirers for his concern for others despite his passive nature. 7] He thought more about the shinobi of the village and the village itself. 8] For this reason, he never became arrogant about his own abilities or accomplishments. He received many praises for his ability to react in certain situations, but also for the maturity he had. Regarding his loyalty to his clan which was a common reaction among the Uchiwa, although he loved his family and wanted the best for them, he knew that there were more important things than the personal aspirations of the clan. Itachi's dream was to become a Hokage, but he kept this secret.
Despite being an accomplished pacifist, Itachi felt that his own needs were secondary to the good of the village and his clan, so he became a shinobi. He trained relentlessly to improve himself as quickly as possible and submitted himself to all the inconveniences of shinobi life without complaint for the simple motivation of being useful to others. His commitment bordered on recklessness, due to his private training using extremely deadly methods such as dodging a barrage of kunai in the anime. Being so gifted compared to the average ninja, this allowed Itachi to deal with less violent issues than others, emphasizing his peaceful nature. These two extremes of his personality came into conflict when events turned to the fall of the Uchiwa clan. He did not want to harm his family and sought a peaceful resolution, but knew that the path of least bloodshed would be the extermination of the clan. When the Uchiwa clan refused the proposal of the Konoha leaders, Itachi was pushed to the limit and his usually polite attitude towards his clan members became more violent, openly criticizing them and beating them for the choices that sealed their fates and his own.
So he had to accomplish a terrible mission and create a fugitive's fate for the sake of the village and his brother Sasuke. He had to create a façade of his personality towards his younger brother, making him a cruel person. The manga began with the characteristics of this character, portrayed in a very dark way at the beginning (cruel, borderline sadistic, murdering his entire clan in order to evaluate his abilities), was finally, after his death, fully revealed by Tobi to Sasuke and later to other ninjas of Konoha (Naruto, Kakashi and Yamato). This version was later confirmed to Sasuke by Danzo and by Itachi himself.
Itachi's goal was always to protect his village and his little brother. After receiving the order to eliminate his clan, which wanted to make a coup and take over Konoha (which the Uchiwa would have succeeded easily) and then the ninja world in its turn, he massacred them all (except Sasuke) with the help of Tobi. But Itachi by the necessity of his assignment to join Akatsuki had to change greatly after the massacre, rarely this one felt emotion. He became more inclined to violence and allowed some of the violent habits of his partner, Kisame, under the guise of furthering Akatsuki's goals. 9] However, Itachi could not completely avoid his pacifist ways and would get out of the fight if the likelihood of collateral damage became too high for himself or others. While Kisame sometimes protested, he considered Itachi a good friend and listened to his instructions. Itachi also had a decent partnership with his previous partner Jûzô Biwa, showing him his respect and after his death, placing the remains of Kubikiribôchô in Jûzô's hand. He still considered himself as a Konoha ninja despite his desertion and his work for the Akatsuki.
The peace and protection of Konoha was always foremost in Itachi's mind, but it was his devotion to his brother, Sasuke, that was the priority in every situation. From the time Sasuke was born until their confrontation, Itachi had always done his tasks out of love for his younger brother. They would spend whole days in the woods around Konoha having adventures and completing missions. When Itachi became an accomplished ninja and caught their father's attention, Itachi would take some time to put on his shoes for Sasuke's benefit, sometimes even refusing his parents' wishes in order to make Sasuke happy. In turn, Sasuke wanted to be like his older brother and often asked Itachi to train him in the ninja arts. Itachi was only able to train his brother very rarely, but he always showed affection by flicking his forehead and promising to train him another time. Unfortunately, none of his promises were kept because of the fate of the clan.
So he deliberately painted a very dark picture of himself to his brother so that he would become powerful and come to kill him one day. According to Tobi, Sasuke was more important to Itachi than the village. In spite of the orders, even if he managed to get rid of any feeling to kill those who were close to him for the peace of Konoha, he could not bring himself to kill his little brother. He pushed his younger brother to hate him and to seek the power to not only die by the hand of his younger brother in order to atone for his guilt of the Uchiwa massacre, but also at the same time, so that Sasuke could avenge the Uchiwa clan and be considered a hero in the eyes of Konoha. Before killing his parents, Itachi promised his father to take care of Sasuke and shed tears showing that despite their conflict, he loved his parents deeply.
According to Tobi, Itachi pushed Sasuke to the limit to free him from the grip of Orochimaru's "Cursed Mark". Tobi, like Zetsu, was of the opinion that Itachi did not fight at his real level, but measured out the fight to suit him (otherwise he would have killed Sasuke as soon as he had the chance).
Apparence
You could recognize Itachi by the black streaks in front of his eyes. When he deactivated his Sharingan, he had black eyes. Before he wore his Akatsuki outfit, his ponytail was tied with a red elastic band that went down to his shoulder blades. Like many of his clan, his hair framed his face. He constantly looked stern.
When he was brought back to life, he had shorter locks. He no longer wore the Akatsuki coat, but instead a long brown coat. His sclera were black, characteristic of the people brought back to life by the Edo Tensei. At the beginning of the series, he was shown with a cold and cruel look, but once the truth about his past was revealed, he was shown to be affectionate towards his brother and his parents just like Sasuke.
Skills
Itachi Uchiwa was considered a genius in his village, even within the famous combat-oriented Uchiwa clan. He was able to effortlessly learn a new jutsu from simple observation and quickly rose through the ninja ranks. His prowess rivaled that of Shisui Uchiwa, who was considered the strongest Uchiwa of his time. He was particularly versatile: he excelled in taijutsu, ninjutsu, seals and genjutsu and won praise from allies and enemies alike. Orochimaru, one of the Three Legendary Ninjas of Konoha, openly admitted that Itachi was stronger than him. Tobi revealed to Sasuke that, although weakened by illness, Itachi could have killed him during their fight if he wanted to. Even if they held back, a team of jônin was pushed back into their own backyard by Itachi.
Chakra and physical prowess
As an Uchiwa, Itachi's chakra was naturally powerful, his actual reserves are unknown and were affected by his terminal illness. Only three uses of his Mangekyo Sharingan in one day left him unable to use his Sharingan and he needed a lot of rest afterwards to regain his strength. This also prevented him from participating in prolonged battles but he had very precise control of his chakra, which compensated for this.
Itachi was very skilled with taijutsu - enough to easily defeat three members of the Konoha Police Department at the age of eleven. He had exceptional speed and reflexes, able to rival Shisui, who was known for his own speed. He was able to perform techniques invisible to the naked eye, even for a Sharingan holder. This speed allowed him to surprise his opponents. During his fight against Kakashi Hatake, Kakashi Hatake could not see the mudra movements associated with Itachi's techniques. He could move in an instant during a fight giving his opponent little chance to react or launch a counter-attack.
Itachi also showed remarkable courage. Although he spent years suffering from an incurable disease, he was able to keep his composure at all times and fight at full strength. Itachi also set a record for completing the Forest of Death test during the chûnin exams when he was still 9 years old, in 5 hours and 37 minutes, while taking the exam alone.
Ninjutsu
Itachi could summon ravens, which he usually summoned in groups to confuse the opponent. He also integrated his own crows in his clones to undergo the attacks of his opponents. He was also able to create clones in order to incite his opponent to attack him in hand-to-hand combat before exploding him. Itachi also mastered the Fûinjutsu which he could use in conjunction with a Sharingan possessor. Since his stay in Anbu, Itachi became skilled in stealth, infiltration and assassination.
Nature of chakra
Being an Uchiwa, Itachi was naturally gifted with the nature of fire chakra. In fact, he mastered a large number of Katon techniques. Like the Uchiwa clan's own Katon - Supreme Fireball technique, which he mastered at the age of seven. Itachi is also able to use Katon - Balsam which allows him to throw several small fireballs, or combine this technique with Shurikens. He also demonstrated his mastery of Suiton techniques against Kakashi and Kabuto.
Shurikenjutsu
Itachi excelled at throwing weapons. His little brother Sasuke asked him several times to help him in his training because "even a child like him notices that Itachi is better than their father at throwing shurikens". He was able to counter all of Sasuke's shurikens and create clones at the same time, a real feat.
Genjutsu
In keeping with his pacifist nature, Itachi specialized in genjutsu, where the illusions usually involved crows. He told Naruto that "all he needs is one finger to cast an illusion technique". Considered one of the best users in Konoha village, even without the aid of his Sharingan, his illusions are remarkably powerful, able to seamlessly affect his targets without them realizing it, while being on guard, and execute them by simply pointing at his target. It is noted by Ao that he could use his genjutsu to control other individuals outside of the Stalker Unit's own range. Itachi could also use his genjutsu to share information or psychologically defeat opponents, allowing him to end the fight instantly. In the anime, he could also, thanks to the sound of the bell of the Akatsuki hat, put his opponent to sleep. That's how he was able to put the guard to sleep before returning with Kisame Hoshigaki to Konoha.
Dôjutsu
Sharingan
Itachi activated his Sharingan when he was only eight years old, since then he became an extremely gifted ninja and showed an excellent mastery of the Sharingan, which even surprised Orochimaru. He demonstrated skills and power superior to most members of his clan. In the anime, his prowess and feats earned him great fame as Itachi of the Sharingan (写輪眼のイタチ, 'Sharingan no Itachi').
Itachi was able to do genjutsu with his Sharingan, show a past event, without leading to madness and he could look inside a person to see their hidden powers.
He tends to keep his Sharingan active almost constantly during a fight with minimal expenditure on his chakra levels. The Sharingan allows him to see the flow of chakra, predict movements and facilitate the use of genjutsu. He can counter other genjutsu users by turning their genjutsu against them. Moreover, with the Sharingan, he could execute Izanami, a technique to counter the Izanagi.
Mangekyô Sharingan
Since the death of his best friend Shisui Uchiwa, Itachi gained access to the higher stage of Sharingan, the "Hypnotic Kaleidoscope of Sharingan" (Mangekyô Sharingan). This pupil allowed him to use three powerful techniques: Amaterasu (also called "Celestial Light") allowing to generate unquenchable black flames and devouring everything, automatically deactivating itself after having completely consumed its target, Tsukuyomi (also called "Lunar Arcana") allowing to dispose of the five senses of his opponent during a variable time, but always perceived as longer by the opponent than it is in reality (notably against Kakashi, he tortured the latter for a duration perceived as equivalent to three days in his mind, whereas the execution of the technique lasted only one second in reality).
He also mastered the Susanô which allows him to summon a shield that acts as an absolute defense but also has offensive properties like Yasaka's magic projectiles. However, Itachi could not abuse his Mangekyo Sharingan without running the risk of becoming blind, as Kakashi Hatake pointed out to him.
Intelligence
Itachi was a very intelligent individual, having the second highest score in the history of the chûnin written exams behind Minato Namikaze. Composed and observant, he thought quickly and remained calm in a fight, allowing him to respond with maximum efficiency. Even at a young age, he was still calculating and methodical in his approach to the situation, leaving little room for error. He took several precautions to protect Sasuke from Tobi even after his death. Tobi admitted that if he had not kept some of his secrets, he would have been killed by Itachi. During his infiltration into Konoha, Itachi was also able to subtly disclose the purpose of the Akatsuki to Kakashi, Kurenai, Asuma and Jiraya without arousing Kisame's suspicions.

Part I
Search for Tsunade
After the death of the Third Hokage, Itachi went to his former village with his partner Kisame, in order to get Naruto and the demon Kyûbi back. According to Tobi, the real purpose of this visit was to notify the elders of Konoha that he was still alive and that they had better not touch Sasuke or he would reveal important information to other villages. They were found by Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenaï Yûhi who fought them. Itachi easily defeated Kurenai, surpassing her in the art of Genjutsu. Kakashi Hatake had to intervene and briefly confronted Itachi who subjected him to Tsukuyomi, a Mangekyô sharingan technique, weakening him considerably. After Gai Maito's intervention and the imminent arrival of Anbu members, the two deserting ninjas decided to flee.
Later, they found Naruto in a hotel during his search for Tsunade. Sasuke ran to try to kill his brother, but he blocked him easily. Itachi told his brother that he doesn't have enough hatred now and gave him the Tsukuyomi, causing him to faint. Jiraya intervened using his "Toad Stomach" technique and forced the deserters to flee again. Itachi used Amaterasu to punch a hole in the toad's stomach, allowing the duo to escape unscathed.
Sasuke Recovery Mission
Itachi and the rest of the Akatsuki met to discuss the progress of their plans as well as Sasuke's recent alliance with Orochimaru.
Part II
Rescue of the Kazekage
Itachi appeared in front of Kakashi's team to delay them. He cast an illusion on Naruto and saw that he had progressed but not enough to stand up to him. However, Naruto was saved by Sakura and Chiyo. Itachi faced Kakashi and used several Katon techniques before taking an Odama Rasengan from Naruto. In reality Itachi was a clone, from the body of Yura, a jonin from Suna, which he had taken possession of thanks to a technique of Pain, and where he used only 30% of his true strength.
Pursuit of Itachi
Itachi and Kisame found Rôshi, the jinchûriki of Yonbi. Kisame faced him alone and managed to defeat him. Itachi knew that Sasuke had defeated Orochimaru and that he was looking for him after defeating Deidara. He cast an illusion to make a rendezvous with Sasuke in the Uchiwa's hideout. He also found Naruto, asking him what he would do if Sasuke decided to destroy Konoha. After hearing his answer, he made him swallow the raven that was carrying Shisui's left eye. He then found his brother in one of the Akatsuki's hideouts. After a short fight, Itachi told Sasuke the place of their final duel, at the Uchiwa's den.
History of the heroic Jiraya
Feeling that his end was near, Itachi sent a clone to find and meet Naruto. When Naruto attacked him, Itachi insisted that he only wanted to talk to him. He first asked him what Sasuke meant to him and what he would do if Sasuke ever attacked Konoha. Naruto then told him that he was Sasuke's brother, a better brother than Itachi, and that if Sasuke ever attacked the village, he would defend it without killing him. Itachi was happy with this answer and gave Naruto a special raven which he stored in the boy's body. However, he didn't tell Naruto what the raven was for, except that the raven, implanted with Shisui's Mangekyo Sharingan, would react to seeing Itachi's eyes and would force whoever had the eyes to protect Konoha. Since he expected that Sasuke would implant his eyes one day if he awakened the Mangekyô Sharingan and by extension learned the truth, the plan was for the raven to restore Sasuke's loyalty to the village after Itachi's death. Having business elsewhere, the clone dispersed.
Another clone allowed Sasuke to follow him to one of the Akatsuki's hideouts. Sasuke attacked him, showing the new abilities he had learned, and convincing Itachi that he had become strong enough. The clone arranged to meet Sasuke at the Uchiwa's lair before disappearing. While Itachi waited for Sasuke, he asked Kisame to patrol the perimeter of the lair and not to let anyone in but Sasuke.
Fateful battle between brothers
The two brothers met again and exchanged blows. Sasuke was finally able to deliver a killing blow, and told Itachi that he had some questions to ask him before he died. Itachi warned him that he had only attacked an illusion. Already aware of this, having attacked the illusion with another illusion, Sasuke attacked the other Itachi, repeating that he had questions for him. Knowing that even Itachi could not eliminate the whole clan himself and that Itachi had mentioned another person with the Mangekyô Sharingan, Sasuke asked him who this person was that had helped him kill their family, intending to eliminate him after killing him. Itachi doubted that he could do it, but he revealed to him that it was Madara Uchiwa. One of the founding fathers of Konoha, but Sasuke didn't believe him since for everyone and even for him, this Madara was long dead. Itachi reminded him that one could be mistaken by some facts, like the time when Itachi had made Sasuke believe that he was his nice big brother. Furious that he was deceived with an illusion, Sasuke thwarted the genjutsu to find himself in front of the real Itachi. Itachi retorted by telling Sasuke that he did not possess the Mangekyo Sharingan like him. However, Itachi revealed to him that little by little the Mangekyô lost its light until the holder became blind, such was the price to pay to be able to control Kyûbi. At Sasuke's request, Itachi began to reveal to him who Madara was.
Itachi told Sasuke that Madara was a promising member of the Uchiwa clan. Training withoutcess with his younger brother and both seeking to increase the power of their Sharingan, Madara and his younger brother awakened the Mangekyô Sharingan and were able to take control of the clan, with Madara as their leader. However, due to frequent use of the Mangekyô Sharingan, Madara became blind, and was only able to regain his sight by taking his brother's eyes, awakening the Mangekyô Sharingan Eternal. His new dojûtsu enabled him to get many clans to join his cause and to form an alliance with the Senju clan, and this alliance founded Konoha. But following a disagreement about the leadership of the village, Madara deserted and attacked Konoha, but was defeated by the First Hokage who was the leader of the Senju clan. He created Akatsuki, in order to be able to maneuver in the shadows, and tried to destroy Konoha by summoning Kyûbi, 16 years ago, but failed because of the Fourth Hokage. This was used by Itachi as proof that Madara is a shadow of his former self. Intending to surpass Madara, Itachi wants to take Sasuke's eyes to escape the blindness of the Mangekyô. Having heard what he needed to hear, Sasuke prepared for battle.
Itachi insisted that Sasuke, not having the Mangekyô Sharingan, could never defeat his. Sasuke simply repeated that there is only death for Itachi and attacked him. Both threw shuriken at each other, but Itachi was finally able to dominate the fight. He nailed Sasuke to the wall and gouged out one of his eyes. Sasuke screamed from the pain of losing his left eye. Itachi put the eye he had gouged out into a container and tried to do the same with the right eye. However, Sasuke activated his cursed mark to level two to stop him, and the stage began to break. Sasuke, with both eyes intact, looked at a suffering Itachi. Zetsu, watching the fight, noticed, to his surprise, that Sasuke had foiled Itachi's Tsukuyomi. Having lost in a genjutsu battle, Itachi prepared to use Amaterasu.

Despite Sasuke's attempt to escape, the Amaterasu reached him too. When half of Sasuke's body was reduced to ashes, Itachi went to retrieve his eyes. He discovered that it was only a permutation, Sasuke having used a technique of Orochimaru to escape the damage. Sasuke exhausted his last chakra reserves with the Katon - Supreme Dragon Fire technique, but only the last one reached his brother's arm. Seeing that Itachi is exhausted from using the Mangekyo Sharingan and knowing that both he and Itachi have no chakra left, Sasuke thought that he will be able to perform his last technique.

Sasuke exhausted his last chakra reserves with the Katon - Supreme Dragon Fire technique, but only the last one reached his brother's arm. Seeing that Itachi is exhausted from using the Mangekyo Sharingan and knowing that both he and Itachi have no chakra left, Sasuke thought that he will be able to perform his last technique.
But Itachi doesn't believe him because he knows very well that Sasuke doesn't have a drop of chakra left. Although he didn't hide that he had no chakra left, Sasuke revealed to Itachi that he didn't come unprepared and warned him that his technique is like Amaterasu, impossible to repel. A storm is brewing, Sasuke didn't target Itachi with his Katon techniques and took advantage of the heat released by Amaterasu to create a storm. By controlling the natural lightning, Sasuke gets a devastating and inevitable technique: Kirin. Itachi is struck by lightning and the whole area is destroyed. After the clouds dissipate, Sasuke thinks he has won. But Itachi corrected him. Furious that his master card had failed, Sasuke activated level two of his Cursed Mark. Itachi admitted that Sasuke has become very strong and that he would have died if he had not played his last card: Susano. This is the last of the techniques that his Mangekyo Sharingan gave him. It surrounds Itachi and protects him from all attacks. Seeing this, Orochimaru offered Sasuke to help him defeat Itachi.
Having more chakra, Orochimaru's Yamata technique emerged from Sasuke's body and attacked Itachi. Susano cut off the heads of the snakes, causing Orochimaru to show himself. He thanked Itachi for pushing Sasuke to the limit and allowing him to escape. He was about to take possession of Sasuke's body, but was impaled by Susanô. When Orochimaru started to be sealed, being one of the attributes of the sword of Susanô, the latter understood that it is the Sword of Totsuka, an immaterial sword, which he has been looking for for a very long time. And Orochimaru is finally sealed, extracted from Sasuke's body who is finally freed from the Cursed Mark.
With Orochimaru gone, Sasuke is left with no options to defeat Itachi. But when the latter started to approach Sasuke to take his eyes, Itachi started to spit blood and the Susanô started to disappear. Sasuke took the opportunity to send him a projectile with explosive scrolls, but Itachi parried the attack with Susanô just in time. Sasuke shoots again with more explosive scrolls, but Itachi is protected by Yata's Mirror, an immaterial shield that protects Itachi from any attack. With Itachi getting closer and closer, Sasuke desperately makes one last attempt to defeat Itachi by attacking him with his Kusanagi Sword, but nothing works and Sasuke gets stuck with a wall behind him. However, instead of taking Sasuke's eyes, Itachi slapped his forehead before collapsing.
Itachi then died exhausted from using his Mangekyô Sharingan, Susanô and his illness. Before he died, he sealed Amaterasu in Sasuke's left eye in case he would meet Tobi who would then tell him the truth about the massacre of the Uchiwa clan. Sasuke, unconscious after the fight he had just fought, was then picked up by Tobi. According to Tobi, Itachi wanted to protect Sasuke and prevent Tobi from telling him the truth about the massacre of the Uchiwa clan.
Itachi died with a smile on his face, having succeeded in deceiving his younger brother about his true nature until his death, and leaving him with the future of the clan.
Chikara
In the anime, Kabuto Yakushi reincarnated Itachi to fight Team 7. The summoning failed almost immediately afterwards, which made Kabuto wonder if his technique was still incomplete.
Fourth Great Ninja War: Beginnings
He was summoned by Kabuto with all the Akatsuki so that Tobi would agree to help him during the Fourth Great Ninja War against the Alliance.
Fourth Great Ninja War: Confrontation
During the Fourth Great Ninja War, he was resurrected by Kabuto Yakushi by means of Edo Tensei, he was seen with Nagato with whom he talked about Akatsuki and Tobi's plans. They were sent to meet the remaining jinchurriki, namely Naruto and Killer B. After a brief reunion, Itachi was forced to attack Naruto and Bee. Nevertheless, he managed to use the crow given to Naruto to free himself from Kabuto's grip by using Kotoamatsukami, the ultimate genjutsu technique developed by Shisui Uchiwa whose left eye was grafted onto the crow. He then revealed his plan to use this crow to hypnotize Sasuke and make him protect Konoha once he had his eyes grafted, the crow being attracted by Itachi's chakra.
Nagato passed under Kabuto's total control, absorbed Hachibi's chakra to regain a young and powerful body and tried to kill the two jinchuri (with a disconcerting ease). They only owed their salvation to Itachi who used the Susanô to save them. While facing the Chibaku Tensei, Itachi advised Naruto and B to use their best "long range" attacks with him to destroy the black sphere. After succeeding, Itachi used Totsuka's sword to seal Nagato as he had done with Orochimaru. He allowed, however, Nagato to say his last words.
He destroyed his raven because the eye of Shisui could not be used against Sasuke for the time being, and declared that Naruto had inherited the will of Shisui. He then left to stop the Edo Tensei in order to help the Shinobi Alliance.
Fourth Great Ninja War: Paroxysm
He met Sasuke who pursued him in order to know the truth about the massacre of the Uchiwa clan from his mouth but Itachi considered that stopping the Edo Tensei was a priority and tried to lose Sasuke. Soon after, Itachi met Kabuto again. Kabuto said that he never had to worry about this jutsu because it was infallible and warned Itachi that if he killed him, the Edo Tensei would last forever. When Sasuke arrived, he mistook Kabuto for Orochimaru and then realized that it was not him. Kabuto then explained to Sasuke about the war and the summoning of the Edo Tensei and asked him which side he was on. Sasuke then threw his shurikens at Kabuto but Itachi threw his shurikens against Sasuke's to deflect them. Itachi told him that he should not kill him and that he agreed to talk to him but they should first take care of Kabuto and then Itachi should control him with his moon arcana to cancel the Edo Tensei. Kabuto congratulated him but told him that if it didn't work, they would be in trouble. Itachi replied that the only weakness of Edo Tensei was him. Sasuke agreed to fight but asked Itachi to keep his promise and Itachi agreed.

Kabuto then threw four big snakes at the two brothers but they easily destroyed them with their Susanô. Sasuke ran towards Kabuto and took off the hood to find him but he found only snakes. The snakes escaped but Sasuke threw his sword on the head of one of them and then said that Kabuto didn't have to be shy and told him that he was just an underling who got what he could from Orochimaru, but Kabuto warned him not to underestimate him. Itachi warned Sasuke that he saw chakra everywhere and that he didn't know where Kabuto was. Kabuto then told Sasuke that the ability to liquefy his body came from Suigetsu on whom he had made experiments, that his ability to regenerate came from Karin since she was from the Uzumaki clan since he has the same ability as Jûgo and he congratulated Sasuke for recruiting them. Kabuto said that he had received the ability of the wise mode while training at Ryuchidô which is a place as famous as Mount Myôboku and that he had trained there under the direction of the wise white snake, saying that he had even surpassed Orochimaru.
Sasuke shot an arrow at him, but Kabuto avoided it and said that his powers of perception had increased enormously and that the forces of nature would always be with him. He explained the reason of Jugo's seizures and its origin, Orochimaru couldn't imitate that because he didn't have the body that could handle so much power, so he couldn't become a wise man like Kabuto at that time. Kabuto then rushed towards the two brothers and spat a dragon from his mouth. The dragon coiled up and became light, which made the two brothers stand still, and they covered their ears and closed their eyes. Kabuto then tried to swallow Sasuke who had deactivated Susano but Itachi protected him because he could read Kabuto's game. Kabuto congratulated Itachi for his incredible insight. He then asked him if he could feel his chakra but he asked him if it was a lie. Itachi said that he never claimed that but it was because of Nagato. Sasuke then threw his chidori blade at Kabuto but he easily dodged it from above. Kabuto said that even though they were fighting together they still didn't really know each other. Itachi asked Sasuke if he remembered when he followed him to take care of Inoshishi a few years ago. Sasuke said that he remembered and they prepared to attack Kabuto. Itachi threw his four tomoe of chakra around Kabuto and then Sasuke threw an arrow on Kabuto's tail, Itachi then threw himself on him. Sasuke warned him that Kabuto was going to take Sasuke's sword to cut off his tail and escape but Kabuto took it and pierced Itachi, who was actually a crow clone, Itachi took the sword and cut off one of Kabuto's horns.
Later, Itachi talked about a technique called Izanami, an ultimate dôjutsu of the Uchiwa clan which allowed to determine the destiny, but that the person who used it lost a Sharingan, this technique is together with Izanagi. Then Kabuto spoke about his childhood, that he had no family, alone in the world next to a battlefield, he didn't know his name, but he was helped by some villagers that they took him to their home, where Kabuto received his name and learned the life and time. Then Kabuto used the techniques of the Oto quintet (Sakon, Jirobo, Kidômaru, Kimimaro and then Tayuya) to counter the frontal attacks of the two brothers. When Itachi seemed to be about to use Izanami, Kabuto sliced him in half, but Itachi was resurrected by the Edo Tensei, so it had no effect on him. So Itachi activated the forbidden Izanami technique and that's when Kabuto was caught in an endless "loop" that he couldn't get out of. Sasuke didn't understand why his brother sacrificed himself once again to protect Konoha, Sasuke said that the only way he could do that was to stop the technique and support Naruto after what he had told him.
Itachi opened one of Kabuto's eyes so that he could use a genjutsu of his Sharingan on Kabuto to find the signs needed to end the Edo Tensei so that Kabuto could perform them and free all the resurrected ninjas from its grip. Sasuke told his brother that he had enjoyed fighting with him and that it reminded him of his childhood, but still he had an even stronger hatred towards Konoha. Once the signs were made, he managed to remove the hold of the Edo Tensei and freed the departed souls once and for all, except for Madara who managed to free himself from the contract binding him to Kabuto and allowing him to escape the cancellation, as his consciousness started to disappear, he used his sharingan to show Sasuke the truth from his memory. He announced before disappearing that whatever he did, he would love him forever.
Legacy
On his own, Itachi had a profound influence on Sasuke's life. The instructions he gave Sasuke on the night of the Uchiwa Clan Massacre to obtain the power to defeat him caused Sasuke to isolate himself from the others and avoid company. When Sasuke realized that he was becoming attached to the members of Team 7 and that from his point of view, he would not become stronger because of them, he deserted Konoha and went to train under Orochimaru's supervision, which led him on the path to Itachi's death. After the battle between the brothers, Itachi's plans began to fail because of Tobi's intervention, who refocused Sasuke's hatred on Konoha, turning Sasuke into a criminal contrary to Itachi's intentions. Itachi managed to make amends with Sasuke during his reincarnation, using his Sharingan to pass on his memories to his younger brother so that he could understand why he had chosen the path he had. He also erased Sasuke's prejudices and encouraged him to start making decisions for himself.
Itachi's eyes would prove to be of immense importance to Sasuke, as not only did they allow him to activate the Mangekyô Sharingan Eternal, but Sasuke would later awaken the Rinnegan with one of Itachi's eyes.
Upon learning the full truth about Itachi, Sasuke regained the great admiration he had for him as a child and followed in his brother's footsteps. He did not want to see Konoha, the village for which Itachi had sacrificed so much, destroyed and so he fought against Tobi and Madara to end the Fourth Great Shinobi War. 33] He also understood the reason for Itachi's decision to make difficult choices and be hated for it, and for this reason, he decided after the war ended, to become the darkness of the world, using his power to force peace and kill all who threatened it without mercy. Although this was again a great divergence from Itachi's plans, another of his plans succeeded: Naruto, at Itachi's insistence, finally convinced Sasuke of the mistakes he had made without killing him after their final battle. During the post-war period, Sasuke adopted Itachi's habit of poking the foreheads of others as a sign of affection, especially his wife, Sakura Haruno, and their daughter, Sarada. He also had the habit of neglecting his daughter in favor of his duties to protect her and the village, although he later realized this mistake and chose to spend more time with his family before continuing his mission. Sasuke continued to protect the village for many years, allowing Itachi's wish for his brother to come true.
In the years following the war, Naruto tried to restore some of Itachi's honor by telling the world about Itachi's actions during his reincarnation period. Without mentioning the truth about the "crimes" he had committed during his lifetime, Naruto mentioned Itachi's name as someone who had supported him. Although this was not easy to accept, no one challenged Naruto's word on this.[34]
Itachi's influence also extended beyond Sasuke: Danzo Shimura, despite his differences of opinion with Itachi, considered him an unsung hero of Konoha who worked selflessly for the good of the village. Itachi reminded Naruto that the strength of the Hokage came from being recognized by others and that he should never forget those who had helped him become strong. The five Kage, although unaware of Itachi's involvement, hailed him as the savior of the world for dispelling the Reincarnation of Souls. [35] Kabuto Yakushi remembered who he really was thanks to Itachi's Izanami and, inspired by him, healed Sasuke while he was on the verge of death.
In the anime, Hiruzen realized that people with big hearts should never be in the Anbu because of the nature of their missions. After the massacre of the Uchiwa clan, Hiruzen was determined not to do the same with Kakashi and chose to remove him from the Anbu and appoint him as the commander of a genin team in hopes of restoring his light and kindness as well as eliminating his dark side.
Itachi had an influence on one of Orochimaru's test subjects, Shin. Shin was intrigued by the Uchiwa clan, especially Itachi, and adopted the clan's name and habitual costume. It was because of his fascination with Itachi that Shin resented Sasuke for causing the death of his older brother and tried to kill him in revenge. However, Sasuke noticed that Shin's social Darwinism and warmongering goals indicated that he didn't understand Itachi at all.

Itachi Uchiwa went downstairs to the kitchen of his old house in Konoha and put on his Akatsuki costume, as well as an apron with the Akatsuki designs. After boiling a kettle and putting bread in a toaster, he took a carton of eggs from the refrigerator and tried to cook one on the plate, but his first attempt was foiled by a piece of shell on the egg. Subsequent attempts had the same results: the yolk broke, Itachi's sweat fell on the egg and so on. Itachi even decided to make a plate of scrambled eggs, although after a moment's thought he rejected the idea and tried again.
