Appearance
Kirua has spiky silver hair, very light skin and blue eyes. His eyes change according to his mood: when he goes into assassin mode, they shrink. In the 1999 anime and the OVAs, Kirua's eye color has changed to green. He is also often seen with a green skateboard (yellow in the 2011 series).
Kirua usually wears loose clothing, with his usual outfit consisting of a long-sleeved, dark-colored shirt. Most of his clothes have a turtleneck. Kirua wears baggy shorts in the manga and in the 2011 anime, but the design of the character in the 1999 anime shortened them to meet above his knees. Kirua also wears purple boots, recolored in brown and black in the 1999 anime.

Personality
We know that he hates red bell pepper, Kirua is presented as a character who seems similar to Gon but different at the same time: cheeky, cheerful, and full of evil ideas. He is also one of the fastest thinking characters in the series. He is confident in his own abilities, often being humble about it, but when someone compliments him, especially Gon, he is easily embarrassed. Kirua is also known to be greedy, he likes everything sweet, like when he spent almost 200 million Jenis on sweets when he was in the Celestial Tower. His favorite snack is chocolate, especially chocolate balls.
However, his ruthlessness and ability to kill shows his other personality: deadly, violent and bloodthirsty. After being tortured since birth, Kirua has been conditioned to possess an extreme tolerance to poison, electricity and pain. Kirua possesses extraordinary agility and strength that makes him a killing machine.
In conflict with Kirua's predisposition to kill, his unwavering loyalty to his friends and his natural kindness. Kirua often suffers greatly in his attempts to help his friends, without a single complaint. He puts others before himself, not caring about his own health or even his life.
Until recently, Kirua's biggest flaw was his fear of those more powerful than him (one of them being his older brother, Irumi). Kirua had been trained as an assassin by his brother, who taught him to be extremely cautious and that he should only engage in combat when victory was absolutely certain. This affected him. As Biscuit has stated more than once that victory is never certain, and that, depending on the circumstances, a person has the potential to defeat a stronger opponent.
Kirua mostly struggles with these dueling ideologies in the second half of the series, as he begins to encounter stronger opponents. His brother's teachings have remained firmly embedded in his mind, at one point Biscuit prophesied that he would one day be abandoned by Gon because of it. Cookie gives Kirua an ultimatum: win against Shoot to claim the right to go with Gon and fight the ant-cimers or, if Kirua loses, he resolves to leave Gon after recovering from his fight, and to protect him in the meantime.
Finally, he had to face Biscuit's prophecy when he encountered a chimera ant with Gon (who couldn't use Nen at that time) who was not far away and had no way to defend himself. Kirua made an attempt to save Gon. While fighting with the ant-chem, Kirua also struggled with his inner self. Preoccupied, Kirua lost to the ant-chem. At the last moment, Kirua realized that Irumi had implanted a needle in his brain on the way back to the first Hunter exam. This needle was the thing responsible for forcing Kirua to retreat and trap herself in her comfort zone whenever a potentially life-threatening situation arose. After the removal of the needle, Kirua was freed from this compulsion and took full control of his subconscious to make his own decision whether or not to flee whenever there was a need to fight stronger opponents.
Past
Kirua was born into a famous family of assassins, the Zoldik Family. Showing great prowess at birth, Kirua had already mastered many killing techniques at a young age, and was trained to be one of the best assassins in the family. At the age of three, he began his training with others. He was forced to fight, at the age of only 6, in the Celestial Tower, a martial arts tournament with fighters from all over the world, in which it took him two years to get to the 199th floor (although he was accepted to the 200th floor, he dropped out). Kirua divulges that since his birth, he has been in constant training to make him a professional assassin. Kirua had spent years trying out unique and perfect skills.
Bored and tired of killing, Kirua unexpectedly rebelled against his family, injuring his mother and second brother, and ran away from home to take the Hunter exam for fun. He meets Gon Freecss during the first part of the Hunter exam and they become best friends. He thinks that being with Gon is exciting and adventurous.
History
Arc of the Hunter exam
First test
Kirua is one of the few recruits who is in the Zaban tunnel. He meets Tompa, the New Breaker, and accepts the drink offered by him, despite knowing the fact that the drink has poison inside. It is revealed later that Kirua is safe from the poison. Satotsu, the first examiner, starts the Hunter exam with a marathon in a tunnel under the city of Zaban. Kirua runs next to Gon, and, after upsetting Leolio, asks how old he is. He jumps off his skateboard and introduces himself.
Second test
The second test of the exam takes place in the Biska forest reserve, where the examiners are Gourmet Hunters, named Menchi and Buhara. Buhara's test is to find the most dangerous pig in the world and bring it back to him so that he can eat it. Kirua,Gon and his friends easily pass the task along with 70 other candidates. However,Menchi, the second examiner, baffles the test subjects when she tells them to make sushi,a traditional Japanese dish, because none of them know what sushi is.Menchi overreacts because of a candidate who reveals the secret of making sushi, but no one manages to make it,therefore,no one passes, which requires Netero to intervene. The new test is carried out at the Split Mountain where the subjects examined hunt Tarantula Eagle eggs. At the end of this stage, there are only 42 candidates left.
A Game at Midnight
The 42 remaining candidates aboard the airship, where it is revealed that the next phase of the exam will start at 08:00 the next day. As everyone is resting for the next day, Kirua and Gon meet Netero. He encourages them to play a game. If they win, he will give them their hunter's licenses on the spot. All they have to do is to take his ball. Kirua goes, eagerly, first, but fails. It is then Gon's turn to try to take the ball, but he also fails. Time passes, and when it seems that Kirua and Gon have tried all possible tactics, Netero suggests that they attack together. Although they get close to the ball at one point, Netero runs between them at lightning speed and takes the ball. Kirua leaves with a bow and ends up killing two candidates out of frustration. Gon, however, decides to play on until he forces Netero to use his right hand. When he succeeds, Gon collapses.
Third test
In the morning, the airship arrives at the top of the Tower of Tricks. The candidates are informed that the objective of stage 3 is to get down from the tower alive in 72 hours.Gon's group is forced to team up with Tompa.
The first test is to win three of the five matches against the prisoners of the Tower of Tricks.Tompa makes the first match with a hardened criminal, and quickly gives up.Kirua's comments on Tompa is that if he had continued the fight, Bendotto would surely have tortured him. He would have probably ripped Tompa's throat out so that he will never be able to say that he surrenders.
Then Gon faces the next prisoner, a serial bomber named Sedokan, in a match to see which candle can burn the slowest. As their group struggles to decide which candle to take, Kurapika lets Gon decide, trusting his instincts.Kirua questions this idea, but eventually agrees. After Gon wins his match, Kurapika engages in a fight to the death with Majitani. After telling Kurapika that he is a member of the Ghost Brigade, Kurapika holds him high in the air which forces Majitani to surrender.Leolio is on his side, facing a psychologist named Leluto. He loses 50 hours in a bet, after having lost in a game of Rock, Paper and Scissors.
Kirua confidently faces Jonès, a man who has murdered at least 146 people with his bare hands. When Jones tries to scare him, Kirua is bored, questioned about the death match. As Jones threatens him, Kirua instantly takes his heart, showing it to Jones and destroying him in front of his own eyes.In the 2011 anime, he gives him his heart after Jones' death. His group mates were surprised, Kirua said that it was easy to tear out a heart using his claws. Rippo, along with Kurapika and Leolio, discover that he is a member of the Zoldik family. After three victories, they must spend their lost 50 hours in a small room.
The last test consists of a big decision: there are two paths, large enough to hold five members, but it will take them 45 hours to complete it and the other will only allow three of the five to enter.Kirua favors the short one, chastising Gon for wanting to take the long path by saying that he plans on two of the three being "you and me", referring to himself and Gon. Gon goes out of the beaten path, and they choose the longest way, destroying the wall between the paths with axes provided so that they can fight, and all five are out.
Fourth trial
The fourth trial is a manhunt on the island of Zebiru, in which the remaining 25 contestants are needed to target and acquire the badge of their prey. Kirua is hunted by Imori in the first three days on Zebiru Island, the latter too nervous to strike. Imori's brothers, Amori and Umori arrive to help their younger brother, but the trio is outmatched by Kirua.Kirua acquires the badges of all three brothers, throwing the two that are useless away.
Final test
The final event ends up being a tournament between the participants. Hanzô and Gon are scheduled to fight in a duel, after being selected by the judges as the candidates who are the most exceptional, which embarrasses Kirua a lot. Although Gon is outclassed when it comes to fighting, his refusal to give away the victory allows him to win. This troubles Kirua, who seems almost jealous.
Kirua loses his next two matches out of arrogance, believing his opponents to be wimps unworthy of him. This eventually makes him fight Gitarakuru, soon revealed to be Kirua's older brother, Irumi spends the match questioning Kirua's motives and denying the truth while mysteriously affecting the child's psyche.Fighting against his brother's mind games, Kirua reveals, for the first time, that he does not want to become a Hunter. He wants to become friends with Gon.
Irumi, taken by surprise, rejects the plausibility of his statement and threatens to kill Gon if Kirua lifts a finger against him. Thus, Kirua loses. The next match is meant to be Leolio against Bodoro, but Kirua intervenes. He stands behind Bodoro and impales him, thus losing the Hunter exam for his murder.Kirua leaves the exam site and of his own will, goes to Kukuru Mountain.

Bow of the Zoldik family
Gon, Kurapika and Leolio set out for Kukuru Mountain to retrieve Kirua. According to Zebulo, Kirua has opened the third door of the Gate of Verification, which weighs sixteen tons.Gon and his friends stay with Zebulo in order to train and open the doors themselves. Then they meet Kanaria. She was assigned to never let anyone pass her post. It was also revealed that Kirua tried to become friends with her, but she refused. After beating Gon, she was hit by Kirua's mother, Kikyô, who was accompanied by Karuto. Kikyô was there to deliver a message from Kirua that he can't see them. Before the departure of the Zoldiks, Gon told Kikyô to inform Kirua that they are going to stay for about ten days.
During this time, Kirua was in the isolation room, tortured by his brother Miruki Zoldik. He used it as a punishment for running away and hurting him and his mother. He tried to cause Kirua physical pain but to no avail, because Kirua was sleeping all the time. When he woke up, he happily greeted Miruki, much to his frustration. He informed Kirua, about the situation of Gon, Kurapika and Leolio coming to the estate. He tries to taunt Kirua indicating that he could order the three to be killed. Hearing this, Kirua gets angry and breaks one of his free containment arms. He threatens Miruki to kill him if he tries to harm his friends. Fortunately, their grandfather Zeno Zoldik comes and orders Kirua to leave the room and go to his father.
Silva and Kirua had a fatherly talk. His father asked him about the Hunter exam, the people he met, the feelings Kirua felt and much more. After Silva asked him if he wanted to see his friends again, he said yes. With that, Silva allows Kirua to go, but he must promise that he will never betray his friends. After that, Kirua left and had a confrontation with his mother who tried to prevent him from leaving. Kirua leaves his mother, and meets his friends to leave the Zoldik domain.
Later, Kurapika informs Kirua, Gon and Leolio about what Hisoka told him during the Hunter exam, they all agree to meet again in six months in York Shin City, Kurapika and Leolio leave, while Gon and Kirua stay together.
Arch of the Celestial Tower
Kirua and Gon go to the Celestial Tower, where they will train and earn money at the same time. They meet a fellow wrestler, a young boy named Zushi. He ended up becoming Kirua's opponent. As Zushi was about to lose, he suddenly released a concentration of aura that made Kirua suspicious and back down. He reminded him of his older brother Irumi, who seems to use the same technique. After Zushi lost, Kirua overhears Zushi's conversation with his master Wing. He was apologizing for not controlling his ability.
Kirua wondered aloud what Zushi was talking about. Gon suggested that they should ask Zushi, but they barely heard a word he said. Wing approached the three and volunteered to teach Kirua and Gon a technique called Nen. In Wing's room, he discussed the four main principles of Nen. He demonstrated how it works and Kirua felt the strong power. After their lesson, Kirua told Gon that everything Wing said was a lie.
They finally arrive at the 200th floor. They try to pass a corridor, but in vain. As they try to move forward, an employee shows up. She informs them that they have until midnight to register for the fight. Hisoka then shows up. He tells them that they are not ready to set foot on this floor. Kirua tries to fight but Hisoka uses aura on him. Wing appears behind them and offers to teach them the real Nen. Before they leave, the employee also informed that if Kirua is not able to register at the given time, he will never be able to register again.
Returning to the wing room, Wing demonstrated the real Nen and made Gon and Kirua feel his pressure. Then Kirua asked Wing why he decided to teach them and he said that it would be a big problem if they arrive at the 200th floor without knowing anything. The participants of the 200th floor are all able to use the Nen. After two hours, they returned to the hallway that Hisoka was guarding. While releasing some aura, Gon and Kirua manage to cross it. After Hisoka leaves, they are confronted with three fighters, namely Guido, Sadaso and Riluberto. During the registration, Sadaso proposes a contract with the two, and Gon and Kirua agree to fight them.
- When Zushi was about to be kidnapped by Sadaso, Kirua appeared and assured him that he would let him win the match. Sadaso then gives Zushi unconscious to Kirua, who takes him back to his room. Before the match starts, Kirua enters Sadaso's room and threatens him that if he continues to win in a cowardly way and if he sees his face again, he will kill him. After that, Kirua is declared the winner by withdrawal. When Riluberto calls Sadasso, he informs him that he will leave the heavenly tower. Riluberto says that Kirua will never know how to threaten him. Kirua then returns to their room and advises them to respect the rules.
The fight of Kirua with Riluberto begins. The latter confidently attacks Kirua with his electricity, but fails. It is revealed that Kirua has developed a high tolerance to electricity during his training against torture. Kirua wins the match easily. Their training with Wing continues, and Kirua discovers that he is in the transformation group. After Gon and Hisoka fight, Gon invites Kirua to come back with him to his home on Whale Island. Kirua agrees and leaves for Gon's home.
York Shin City Arch
The third story arc brings together the main characters for the world's largest auction in a sprawling metropolis called York Shin City. Kirua, Gon, and Leolio try different methods to earn enough money to buy Greed Island, a video game that could help Gon find his father.
Shortly after the Ghost Brigade attack, a prize is put on the head of a part of the spider, Gon and Kirua decide to capture them and claim the reward.A couple gives information about them, and Gon and Kirua start to follow Machi and Nobunaga Hazama. They use the Zetsu to avoid being noticed and follow them to a deserted building. Kirua tells Gon not to confront them and if they notice them, to leave as soon as possible.
Nobunaga receives a call from someone and suddenly Machi and Nobunaga look where Kirua and Gon are hiding. Kirua instantly runs away but is stopped by Phinks, who was following him as they followed the other spiders. Kirua tries to escape using incredible speed and brute strength, but he is rendered useless against Phinks' strength and finally surrenders.
Kirua and Gon have both been captured, they are brought in and questioned by Pakunoda to see if they knew anything about the guy on the chain. As soon as they arrive, they notice that Hisoka is a member of the brigade, but Kirua plays it cool so that they don't get into trouble. Gon yells at Hisoka's presence but Kirua stares at him and notices that they are facing the arm wrestling girl, which means Shizuku. Nobunaga arm wrestles Gon against him to the point where he tries to stop him, Hisoka threatens to kill him if he moves.
As they soon find out that they don't have a relationship with the guy on the chain, Kirua suddenly realizes that the guy is actually Kurapika. They are being held and watched by Nobunaga, as he wanted them to join the Ghost Brigade. They find a way to escape from Nobunaga without approaching him, because they knew they would not be able to defeat him.
They contact Kurapika and explain the situation to him, they make a plan to stop them and Kirua goes back to their lair with Senritsu to inform Kurapika about their movements. Kurapika and Gon start to chase them recklessly and as Kuroro Lucifuru, Shizuku and Machi become aware of his presence, Kirua replaces Kurapika before being captured again.
At the hotel, Kirua and Gon follow Kurapika's plan to escape and when the lights went out, they quickly attack Pakunoda and Machi, but failed to escape from them in the end.Kurapika instead captures their leader and command the other spiders not to harm them and follow his orders to make an exchange between the hostages. In the end, Kurapika finds his friends and thanks them for their help and apologizes for risking their lives.
Arc of Greed Island
Kirua and Gon participate in an elimination test in which only examined subjects can enter Greed Island under the supervision of Jackpot Hunter Tzesugera. At first, Tzesugera refuses Kirua and Gon because they "can't survive in the game". Kirua and Gon leave the auction and proceed with their training. During the remaining four days, Kirua is able to develop his Hatsu by triggering his immunity to electricity with a stun gun.Given Tzesugera's qualification for the exam, Kirua easily passes the test as he shows his new ability which surprises Tzesugera.
As soon as Kirua and Gon enter Greed Island, they are confronted by Rataza who attacks the newcomers.Rataza casts the spell "Trace" on Kirua to track them down. Kirua, who is not aware of the consequences of the card, immediately reveals his bloodlust which scares Rataza, pushing him to return to Masadora.
Kirua and Gon are soon joined by Biscuit Kruger, an experienced master teacher from Nen who trains them. During their training period, Kirua leaves the game to take part in the Hunter exam. He won the exam for knocking out all the other candidates and gets a Hunter license. He then goes back to Greed Island and returns to the real world to call Kurapika about Kuroro's condition.
After acquiring some cards, Kirua and the others are recruited by Kazusoul to get "Tsubo's Coast". When they enter the pirate base in Sofrabi, Kirua wins against Bopobo easily. Gon, also played games with the Laser Devils. He also participated in Laser's dodgeball. He and Hisoka were the only ones who were not hit by the ball and stayed in the game the longest.
When Gon uses "Back" to come back, they make an offensive move to beat Laser. While he takes the brunt of Gon's improved nen punch, Kirua holds the ball. The impact does significant damage to Kirua's hands. In the end, they win the game using the same technique but combined with Hisoka's Bungee Gum. While the Genthru Clan are in pursuit of Tzesugera's team, Kirua strategizes about how to fight with Gon and Biscuit since his hands have been injured.
After facing the bombers, Kirua fights against Sabu. First, he uses his nen ability on Sabu but it's not enough to stop him. Then he shows his yo-yo. In the end, he could land a blow on Sabu's head. When Sabu is lying on the ground, he combined his nen ability to electrocute the yo-yo. After Gon defeats Genthru, they use the angel's breath to heal their wounds. Gon ends up being the first person to finish the game and, as part of his reward, is allowed to take three cards to be used in the real world.Using the "Accompany" card, Kirua and Gon travel to a player under the username "Nigg", whom they believe to be Jin. However, he ends up bringing them to Kaito.

Chimera Ant Bow
Along with Kaito, Kirua and Gon briefly worked as biology researchers in the country of Kakin, and as they investigate a branch of a giant insect found on the coast of the country, the group discovers that it comes from the queen of the human-sized ant-cimeras (an insect that devours other insects and animals, and then gives birth to offspring that inherit the characteristics of the various species it eats). The queen of the ant-cimers will go to an autonomous nation called NGL inhabited by a neo-luddite culture. The queen quickly develops a taste for human food and builds a colony in order to conceive both an army of offspring and a king of the ant-cimers, Meruem. The ant-chemicals then proceed to destroy most of the population before Kirua, Gon and Kaito reach the nest. They are quickly thwarted by Neferupito, one of the king's royal guards who forces Kirua and Gon to withdraw from the country.
As the Ants, formerly under the reign of the Queen, join the king, the Hunter Association quickly mobilizes to stop the genocide in reverse by sending a team to exterminate the Hunters of East Gorutô. Distraught by the assassination of Kaito, who is in the hands of the Royal Guard, Kirua and Gon join the extermination team to avenge their friend.
On the way, they meet the Hunters Novu and Morau MacCarnathy, Morau's students are Knuckle Bine and Shoot MacMahon and Novu's student is Pâmu Shiberia. Cookie also reviews Kirua and Gon's training in hopes of beating Knuckle and Shoot, Morau's students, to challenge them. During their training, Biscuit gives her opinion on Kirua's caution during a battle. She tries to help him overcome this fear and concludes herself that Kirua's caution is the product of her mother's smothering love.
The queen dies while in labor, and the ant king and his ant-chemicals flee NGL, secretly overthrowing the government of the neighboring Republic of East Goruto shortly thereafter. Under the guise of the Republic's former king, the king initiates the process of awakening the force of Nen in the civilians of East Gorutô to form his own personal army to conquer the world - resulting in the deaths of millions of people unable to awaken to Nen.
In the following thirty days,Gon cannot use the Nen, Gon gives a rendezvous to Pâmu while Kirua keeps an eye on them.He confronts Ramotto in the woods and fights him. During the first half of the fight,Ramotto kicks and ransacks Kirua, because Kirua can't fight. He keeps giving him trouble, the voice of his brother Irumi keeps echoing in his head. Irumi's voice tells him to withdraw as Kirua can't defeat stronger opponents than him. When Ramotto prepares his last blow, Kirua takes out a needle from his head and kills Ramotto instantly. He realizes that Irumi has indeed placed a needle in his head to try to control him.
Gon and Kirua split up to stop the selection. While Gon is confronted with various ant-chemicals, Kirua convinces people that Digo has fallen, but due to Neferupito's plans, the odds are against him. Kirua is then forced to retreat and stick to the initial plan of destroying puppets. Neferupito sends Leoru, Furatta and Hina to chase Kirua. Furatta tracks Kirua and orders several ant-puppets to go against him. Kirua kills them with ease but is in trouble against a sniper. The sniper uses a gun and chips are his bullets. These chips hit different parts of Kirua's body which makes him lose blood. Kirua deduces the situation and runs after the sniper immediately. The sniper allows Kirua to follow him until they arrive in a cave entrance. The sniper warns Kirua that this is a trap, but in frustration, Kirua quickly kills the sniper by sticking a finger on the man's head.
Ikarugo reveals himself and is attacked by Kirua. When questioned about the ability to manipulate, Ikarugo refuses to answer and places the plan to fall underwater to escape and free himself from Kirua's grip. Kirua saves him by using his yo-yo and notices that they could have been friends under different circumstances. After registering Ikarugo, the Orosos take over the fight and ask Kobarn to stick a badge behind Kirua. Once down, Kirua is attacked by multiple fish darts that seem to come out of nowhere. Through telepathy the Orosos siblings inform Kirua as to their Nen ability which revolves around the dart game. The Orosos take their time to mock Kirua and claim to be invincible. Their darts are unstoppable and do not materialize until he hits the target, making them impossible to dodge. Kirua is severely injured and suffers extreme blood loss, but manages to decapitate the Orosos. As he tries to leave the cave, he collapses and almost dies from blood loss until Ikarugo arrives and saves him. He manages to convince the latter to join the group.
Finally Kirua, Gon and the others set up for the invasion. He still has an idea in his head, a third camp that they do not know and that disturbs the king and his guards. As soon as the assault started he passed Yupi with Gon to find Pitô. However, on the way he met two soldiers that he killed to allow Ikarugo in Furatta's body to pass. After this setback, he joined Gon just in time to see Zeno, the king and Netero leaving. Gon says "Let's go" which makes Kirua doubt and he refuses to ask for more details because he is afraid to face the truth. He arrived with Gon in a room occupied by Pitô who was busy taking care of Komugi, the third camp he was speculating. While Gon was boiling with rage waiting for Pitô to finish he said some extremely harsh things to Kirua who ended up leaving, to see if he could make himself useful elsewhere. With the help of Melereon, he saves Knuckle in extremis from a powerful attack of Yupi. Once Knuckle is gone, Kirua uses Yupi as his outlet. Finally, after having recharged his batteries, he crosses Pamu, transformed into Kimera Ant who attacks him, he implores him to help him to save Gon and Pamu finally finds his spirits.he recovers Komugi finally healed while Gon guides Pitô to Kaito. After a short scuffle with Pufu who tries to kill the girl, Kirua entrusts her to Pamu before joining Gon. He finds his friend in a totally new body, obtained by a huge sacrifice. He brings him back, after he has recovered his normal appearance but lost an arm following Pitô's attack.
Arc of the 13th President Hunter's election
Kirua, in front of Gon's unrecognizable and unconscious body, shouts to him that he didn't apologize for what he had said to him, that he would take care of Gon so that the latter would finally apologize.
Kirua returns home to seek help from his younger sister Aruka, whose Nen ability can help save Gon from death. After convincing his father, Kirua finally gets the right to see Aruka. The two are then happy to be reunited with each other. Kirua remembers the time when he was young and Aruka shows his ability to grant the wishes of their servants. Silva and Kikyô ask Kirua for information about the subject .
Back to the present time, the three requests of Aruka are made and Kirua must make a wish. Silva, Kikyo and Miruki look through a surveillance camera in Aruka's room. Miruki regrets the computer's wish, because it was easy. Silva glares at him and Miruki apologizes. Kirua asks Silva to open the door for him and Aruka. His father refuses, saying that he has to make a wish inside. Kirua makes a request to Aruka that if they are not able to leave the mountain in thirty minutes, Aruka will kill their mother Kikyo. Aruka accepts and Silva has no choice but to open the door. Kikyo collapses on the ground, thinking that Kirua could say something so cruel, that he has already grown up and is proud of him.
Kirua calls his friends at the hospital and tells them that he is going to take care of things. He calls Gotô and asks him about the restriction movements. After a while, Goto and Kanaria accompany Kirua and Aruka. Goto asks Kirua if it is necessary to take Kanaria with them, and he answers that Aruka is a "girl" and Kanaria will be able to take care of Aruka. However, Silva ordered Tsubone and Amane to come with them. But before they can go, Aruka asks for Tsubone's pinkie nail. She gives it to him and tells Kirua that she hides for the moment with pleasure. In this way, Aruka will not be able to make a request to other people.
On their way to answer Gon, Kirua's butler, Gotô, receives a call from Leolio, asking to talk with Kirua. After they argue, Goto allows Kirua to listen to what Leolio has to say. Goto then tells Leolio to make sure that when they arrive, Gon is the only one in the hospital. Leorio doesn't agree with these conditions so he hands the phone to Morau. He accepts these conditions and says that he will build a private room for them in the hospital's parking place.
As Kirua, Aruka and their butlers are on their way to Gon, Irumi calls him on the phone and asks him if he had already taken the needle in his brain. Kirua confirms and tells his brother that "he would beat him at his own game". Shortly after, a truck hits their car, sending them over a cliff. Kirua protects Aruka while Irumi and Hisoka watch from a distance. When they decide to separate, Hisoka asks Irumi if he can kill Kirua. Irumi gets angry, and warns him. In the dense forest, Kirua felt the terrifying murderous aura of his brother. Amane suggests to stay as far away from Irumi as possible, and runs away. Kirua suspects Amane to be from Irumi's cohort, but she assured him that she and Tsubone are not his enemies. She also told Kirua that Silva and Zeno are not her enemies, their mission is to keep Kirua safe. But Kirua retorts that as long as Aruka's safety is not a priority in their mission, they will still remain her enemies.
As the two Zoldiks continue to escape, Kirua uses Divine Speed to escape Tsubone. But she uses her Nen ability which is fast enough to follow Kirua. Tsubone, Amane and Kanaria follow them with a motorcycle but Kirua escapes them by jumping off the cliff where the motorcycle can't follow them. He later reaches an airport and climbs into an airship to escape from Irumi who was probably watching them from afar. Kirua calls Morau about his plan to counter Irumi. Morau thinks Teradin Neutral and Bushidora Ambitious will agree to his plans and many other Hunters want to help. They intend to capture Irumi's needlemen. The other Hunters agree to this plan and those who get close to the aircraft will be captured. And Irumi makes her first move with the help of her needlemen.
Kirua then contacts Kanaria while remaining in the airship. He asks her to tell Hishita, another Zoldik butler, to send the cars to three places, and one near the hospital where Gon is. Kirua and Aruka go to the place where Hishita is waiting for them with a car. Kirua tells Hishita to drive them to the hospital, but then the controlled needle-men appear and surround the car. Kirua is surprised at how his brother could have possibly known where they would have landed. He orders Hishita to continue driving, but Hishita informs him that he can't do what Master Irumi didn't tell him.
Kirua finds Aruka and is surrounded by people manipulated by Irumi .Kirua, out of concern for Aruka's safety, became hesitant on the idea of fighting or running away as well as perplexed on how they were being followed to which Tsubone responded who revealed that this was due to a hidden camera that was placed on her,by their mother and Miruki who were watching through her moncole, where the latter was instructed to send the images on Irumi's phone. After Tsubone finished the last two requests of Aruka, she tells Kirua to make the wish of his choice, but he chooses the wish to heal Tsubone's hand to show Irumi that there is no consequence later by asking Nanika for a wish that requires healing and threatens Irumi that if he doesn't stop talking about Aruka as an object, he won't be his elder brother anymore. Hearing his explanation that there would be no risk for the family, Irumi agreed that he will now allow them to continue their quest to save Gon but warned that the entity called Nanika is still very dangerous and will never allow Aruka to be fully free until Kirua tells him why he is the only one who can make consecutive wishes with Aruka's ability (the first one was the kiss after leaving the mountain and the second one was the healing of Tsubone's hand making two wishes in a row).
Finally, Kirua is able to reach the hospital. While he waits for Aruka to wake up by herself, both of them stay in Gon's room. After Aruka is awake, Kirua tells her that they are in the hospital and that his friend is sick and wants to treat him. Aruka answers by saying that she doesn't want to "summon" him and still wants to stay with Kirua, Kirua manages to convince Aruka by saying that they will always be together, Kirua wishes for Gon to come back to normal, Aruka switches to Nanika mode and starts to heal Gon.
When Aruka switches to Nanika, she asks for Gon's hand to touch her. When Kirua grabbed Gon's hand, he was shocked to see it so damaged, and he begged Nanika to save Gon. When Gon's healing started, a huge energy emitted from Nanika, which was so powerful that everyone in the neighborhood could feel it. It is shown later that Aruka succeeded in healing Gon. Afterwards, Kirua stays in the hospital with Aruka unconscious in his arms, and with Irumi approaching. Irumi hypothesizes the conditions for activating Aruka's ability and tells Kirua that if he is able to control Aruka's ability, he can guarantee a minimum level of freedom for Aruka, instead of being locked in a room. However, Kirua declares that he will protect Aruka for anything, and he summons Nanika and asks Nanika to take Irumi home and Irumi is immediately teleported to the Zoldiks' residence.
Kirua then asks Amane and Tsubone to leave the room or he would ask Nanika to do the same for them. They leave the room, willingly, while Nanika tells Kirua that he is a good boy. Kirua tells Nanika not to come back, but Nanika refuses, stating that she loves Kirua. After a brief argument that builds up when Kirua yells at Nanika not to come back, Nanika agrees with tears in her eyes. Kirua kisses Aruka apologizing to Nanika and declaring that now Aruka can be free. Aruka resurfaces but is angry at Kirua for making Nanika cry, and says that if Kirua wants to protect her, he must also protect Nanika. Kirua regains his senses thanks to Aruka, and thanks her. He then asks Aruka to call Nanika and he apologizes, saying that he was afraid of the idea of Irumi controlling Aruka and hurting her. He declares that he will protect both Aruka and Nanika and tells Nanika not to grant any more desires. Nanika forgives Kirua and they kiss each other with tears in their eyes. Tsubone is contacted by an unknown person (probably Silva) saying that the restriction movement on Kirua is cancelled.
Kirua, together with Aruka, later accompany Gon to the World Tree. He informs Gon that Aruka was the one who healed her, when asked why he was not informed earlier Kirua answered that "it's complicated". After his offer to climb the world-tree with him is refused, he tells Gon that he will travel a lot with Aruka and will do everything to protect her. Promising to stay in touch and to remain friends, no matter what happens, Kirua says goodbye to Gon and to greet Jin for him, then they separate.

Skills and Competencies
Yoyos: During the Greed Island arc, Kirua begins using a special metal alloy yoyo in battle. The yo-yos are extremely durable and heavy, weighing 50 kg each. They can be used in conjunction with Kirua's Hatsu. Kirua is reluctant to use the yo-yos in battle, using only his primary physical abilities so that his opponent can know little about his possible fighting abilities.
In the manga, the yoyos have a six-pointed star or hexagram design on them. The hexagram design is used in many different religions and cultures, including Islam, Christianity, occultism, Hinduism and Judaism in particular where the hexagram is the symbol used for "The Star of David". In the Greed Island OVA, the hexagram, or Six Stars, was transformed into a pentagram or five-pointed star. However, later in the Ant-Cimer arc, Kirua is seen using a yoyo that has a pentagram on it. Since Kirua has two yo-yos, it is more likely that one yo-yo has a hexagram while the other has a pentagram.
Immense strength: Kirua has displayed his strength on many occasions. Before he learned Nen, he was able to open a 16 ton door and after he learned it, he opened nearly 64 tons. He can also lift rocks several times his size with ease.
Speed and Reflexes Accrued: Kirua has shown that he possesses great speed along with Gon (when Kirua is not using Nen). He also showed excellent reflexes reacting to any danger quickly. With his speed and agility, he can create several afterimages of himself and disappear out of sight.
Master of Stealth: Kirua is highly skilled in stealth and espionage. Senritsu, a Hunter known for her hearing, has said that she can barely hear Kirua's footsteps even when he is running alongside her.
Expert Tracker: He has chased Nobunaga and Machi through a city undetected (even though they could clearly sense his presence).
Increased Agility: Kirua is very agile. Indeed, he can attack in any position and under any circumstances. His speed is mainly used to dodge the enemy's attacks and react immediately after being hit.
Increased Stamina: Kirua, because of his assassin training, is tireless. He can withstand battles, training sessions, and runs.
Poison Resistance: As a member of the Zoldik Family, Kirua has been trained and has become resistant to almost all types of poisons. He showed this ability when he asked Tompa during the Hunter Exam for more juice, which contained several poisons. During the Ant-Cimmer arc, when he was attacked by the mosquito with its venomous stinger, he managed to kill it without experiencing any side effects of poisons.
Electricity Resistance: As a child, Kirua was trained to endure large amounts of electricity. His older brother, Miruki Zoldik, often electrocuted him as training and punishment. Kirua once stated that even though he has a strong resistance against electricity, he is still able to feel the pain. For this reason, Kirua has developed his Hatsu to electricity.
Pain Resistance: Due to the fact that he has been tormented since he was born, Kirua has shown to be insensitive to pain. He could take lashes and be electrocuted without flinching. Although he does not react to pain, he says he still feels it.
Very High Intelligence: Kirua can make accurate predictions about his opponent's movements and has proven to be able to analyze hostile abilities and thought patterns effectively. He can develop effective strategies in a matter of moments. Moreover, Kirua's years of experience can lead him to choose the best option. He can keep his cool in extremely dangerous situations. He demonstrated his great analytical intelligence during the discovery of the relationship between Komugi and Meruem, and being able to understand the whole scenario behind it, including the disappearance of Neferupito's En. He was also the first to understand what had happened in the castle where Yûpi resides faster than Shoot and even Morau.
Assassination Techniques
- Claws: In the first part of the series, Kirua does not employ or use weapons in combat. Instead, he relies on several assassination arts passed down from his family which includes sharpening his fingernails into claws. These claws are sharper than knives and can tear a limb easily.
- Shadow Walk: He moves silently as he walks. It is difficult to tell if Zetsu is being used.
- Rhythmic Echo: An assassination art, rhythmic echo is a movement that creates an afterimage of the body through a variable cadence of steps. There is a total absence of noise during the movement, and several doubles appear. He uses the technique of shadow walking first; in the 1999 anime, the rhythmic echo turns into an ability that allows Kirua to disappear into the darkness. According to Netero, it is the advanced version of the "shadow walking" technique.
- The Awakening Serpent: Kirua moves his arms at an incredible speed, and cuts through anything that comes in contact with them.

Nen
As a user of Transformation Nen, Kirua is most effective by changing the form of his Nen. As such, Kirua develops a Hatsu, in which he transforms his aura into electricity. This feat was inspired and made possible by the years of electric shocks, which he received as a child, as training against torture and as punishment by his older brother, Miruki Zoldik. To use this ability, Kirua must charge himself by absorbing electricity through a power outlet.
