Light Yagami

Light Yagami (pseudonym Asashi), known as Kira, and called L (or "Second L") after the death of the first one, and nicknamed by the SPK L-Kira, is a Japanese human who received a Death Note, while he was still in school. The existence of this Japanese high school student, extraordinarily gifted for his age, is forever changed the day he accidentally picks up the Death Note, a notebook that has the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. Having been able to verify all its evil power, he decides to use it to eliminate the worst criminals, convinced that he is thus contributing to the creation of a perfect world. In the face of an unprecedented wave of deaths of criminals by heart attack, caused by Light Yagami who chose to sign his murders in this way, the world opinion concludes that there is a single assassin and nicknames him "Kira" (a word formed from the English "killer").

Biography

History

Light grew up in Japan with his family, which consists of his father, Sôichirô Yagami, director of the Japanese police force, his mother, Sachiko Yagami, and his younger sister, Sayu Yagami. Light is a third year high school (grade 12) student in Daikoku. After coming first in the exam, he attends the university. He dies at the hands of his shinigami when he writes his name in the Death Note.

Discovery of the Death Note

Light finds his world rotten and boring. One day, he sees a notebook falling from the sky on the terrace of his high school: the Death Note. He picks it up. Of course, at first he didn't believe it. He then tested it on a mad gunman who had taken a kindergarten with children as hostages. Once the name of the latter was written and 40 seconds passed, the criminal died. Despite this, Light still doesn't believe in it and wants to test it again.

At his evening class, he wishes to eliminate a fellow Soudo but finally prefers not to attack people too close to him. Once his class is over, he goes to a supermarket. When a young girl is harassed by a Takuo Shiboumaru, he writes in the Death Note that the latter would die in a car accident, which happened. He realizes that the Death Note really has the power to kill. He will then kill only criminals.

Five days later, while returning from class, his mother asks him the results of the national mock exam: he arrived first. In his room, he meets Ryûk, the God of Death. This one tells him that he was waiting for him because he knew that this Death Note belonged to someone. At the beginning, he thought that Ryûk wanted to take his soul or something like that, but he understands that in reality the one who finds the notebook keeps it and that if he doesn't want it, he would lose all memory of him.

Moreover, when Light asks the original owner of the Death Note why he chose him, the latter will answer that the discovery of the notebook by Light is a pure chance, that he had just "lost" his notebook to come and observe the consequences in the human world, finding the Shinigami world "boring", a term also used by Light to refer to the human world.

Light wishes to become the God of a new world: a world where crime would no longer exist. He got into crime fighting because he was bored, so he started to kill all the criminals whose names and faces he knew. Soon, the police found it strange that several hundred criminals died of heart attacks. And the case became international, on the internet, people began to believe that a god had arrived on Earth to destroy evil, and began to call him "Kira" (this nickname will refer to Light throughout the series).

But even though Kira is considered a god, his actions are still immoral and the police want to arrest Kira for cold-blooded murder.

Apparence

Light has brown hair and eyes of the same color. He tends to dress very neatly and is usually seen wearing his school uniform, which consists of a white shirt, a brown-beige jacket and a red tie. Tall and lanky, he is considered quite handsome, a characteristic emphasized by Misa Amane and Kiyomi Takada, among others.
