Apparence

Mitsuri is a curvy young woman with fair skin and round, light green eyes with particularly long lashes, a small mole under each. She has long pale pink hair that fades to a neon green color midway through, which she wears in three thick braids with five shorter tufts hanging over her face like bangs. When she was trying to get married, her hair was dyed black to try to make herself look more "normal."

Mitsuri wears a modified purple version of the standard demon slayer uniform; the chest area is left unbuttoned to fit her chest size. She wears a short skirt instead of the usual hakama, and a plain white haori. In addition to that, she wears a pair of navy blue thigh-high socks, on which she also wears the lime green striped socks that Obanai Iguro gave her, and pink lace-up shoes.

In the Blacksmith Village, she wore a kimono with a floral pattern.

During her and the other Pillars' fight against Muzan Kibutsuji, Mitsuri's left and back braids are cut by the demon's attacks, now shortened to shoulder length, and part of her left ear is also torn on the side.

Mitsuri Kanroji

Personality

Mitsuri is a very emotional and passionate person, constantly complimenting people in her head, which is probably why she is called the "Pillar of Love". She is rather shy, and is always gentle and kind to others, especially Obanai, with whom she seems to share a particularly strong bond, but is easily flustered and does not take insults very well. However, despite her gentle demeanor, Mitsuri will show no mercy to the demons, instead expressing her feelings with a passionate tone. She felt very guilty about joining the Army for such a superficial reason as finding a husband, although she has since overcome these feelings.

She is desperate to get married because she wants to find a man stronger than her, which is quite difficult because of her obvious strength.

In addition to her rather emotional and loving personality, Mitsuri can be somewhat childish at times. When asked to explain the process of obtaining the mark of the demon slayers, she describes it using noises and sounds. When others hear her, their reactions embarrass Mitsuri, making her blush.

Beyond that, Mitsuri has shown great dedication to the cause of demon slayers. Although she was put out of commission by Muzan at an early stage of their battle, she still shows up and fights, insulting Muzan.

She is a very caring person, always showing others her love. When many slayers risk and sacrifice their lives to protect the remaining Pillars, she begs them to stop and not get killed. She can get quite excited, grabbing her friends for a big hug after the battle with Gyokko and Hantengu.

She shows great admiration for others, such as at the Pillar Assembly, where she feels that Tanjiro Kamado doesn't deserve to die with such a pretty face.

When she is slashed by Muzan and pulled out of the battle by Obanai, she says she wants to be useful and not drag everyone down. She even begs the Pillar of the Serpent to come back and not get killed. This alludes to her love for him, the person she can finally feel and be loved. She shares Obanai's hope that they can reincarnate, meet and marry in another life.

History

Past

Mitsuri was born in the Meiji era among five siblings and showed supernatural strength at a very young age due to her unique muscle composition, shocking even her mother who herself was known for her strength. She grew up eating much more than average and developed an unnatural hair color (resulting from excessive consumption of sakura mochi), which led to her being considered a freak and unable to proceed with a planned marriage at the age of seventeen. After this rejection, she dyed her hair black, pretended to be weak, and forced herself to eat a normal amount in an attempt to fit in more with the other girls, even though it was detrimental to her well-being. Soon after making these adjustments to her physical appearance, Mitsuri was approached by a potential partner. However, she began to doubt that pretending to be a different person would really work for her in the end.

At some point, her partner left her or she left him.

Mitsuri then met Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who told her to reject normalcy and embrace who she was because her strength was a gift. As a result of this encounter, she joined the Demon Slayers and used her skills and strength to achieve Pillar status. While in the organization, she also embraced her idea of finding a man stronger than her to marry, however, it didn't work out because, with the exception of her fellow Pillars, she was much stronger and more skilled than the rest of the Slayers. She began working with Kyojuro Rengoku and in a battle she developed her own breath, the Breath of Love.

Synopsis

Bow Recovery Training

At the Ubuyashiki estate, Shinobu Kocho notes that Tanjiro Kamado is on trial, while Mitsuri thinks about the potential murder of Nezuko Kamado with concern. When Obanai Iguro demands to know what punishment Giyu Tomioka would receive for his role in their subordinate's actions, Mitsuri praises his perseverance, as well as Giyu's distance. Later, she questions whether or not they should make a decision in Tanjiro's trial without the input of "Oyakata-sama", suggesting that they wait for him to arrive. Shortly after, she praises Sanemi Shinazugawa's increased scarring and Shinobu's severity with the former's actions. Pillar of Love's expressions of praise quickly turn to horror when Sanemi stabs Nezuko, but just as quickly turns to laughter when Tanjiro headbutts her, much to her mortification.

Arc Train de l'Infini

Upon receiving news of Kyojuro Rengoku's death from a crow, Mitsuri is shocked and horrified.

Arc Village des Forgerons

Tanjiro, Mitsuri and Nezuko have dinner together, and the young man is amazed at how much the Pillar can eat despite her claims that she hasn't been eating as much as usual. Her appetite encourages Tanjiro to also eat a lot and become stronger. Tanjiro then remembers her encounter at the springs and tells Mitsuri that the boy she met before was named Genya Shinazugawa. Mitsuri immediately realizes that Genya is in fact the younger brother of the Wind Pillar, Sanemi Shinazugawa, even though the latter had told her that he had no siblings. She thinks that brothers don't get along and that it must be a sad experience since she gets along well with her five siblings. Tanjiro is worried about Genya since he still hasn't arrived to eat his dinner. While playing with Nezuko and kissing her, Mitsuri guesses that the reason he might not have been there was because he told the people in the blacksmith village that he wouldn't eat at all. Tanjiro decides to bring Genya some leftovers, and Mitsuri enthusiastically supports the idea.

Mitsuri sings while holding Nezuko's hand, and Tanjiro suddenly asks her what her motivation was for joining the smiths. At first she is embarrassed and hesitates to tell him, but soon after she confesses that she did it to find a man who would marry her for the rest of her life. She goes on to talk happily about how girls like men who are stronger than them and can protect them, and joining the Pillars would allow her to meet many strong people. Tanjiro is surprised and speechless, having the same reaction as everyone else who heard her reasoning.

The three continue to look for Genya when a Kakushi approaches them and tells Mitsuri that she is needed at the blacksmith shop for the finishing touches on her sword. Saddened to have to leave the Kamado siblings, Mitsuri denies Tanjiro's offer to escort her and replies that she will be fine. She gives him a kind smile and tells him that even though they may not see each other alive the next time they meet, they should continue to do their best. She praises the young man for surviving a battle against a Superior Moon, an invaluable experience that would result in an incredible boost to his training. Mitsuri also states that he is much stronger than the last time they saw each other and that she fully supports him and Nezuko. Tanjiro thanks her and announces that he couldn't have won without Tengen Uzui's help, but that he will continue to work harder to defeat Muzan. Mitsuri is happy to hear her words and whispers in Tanjiro's ear that there is a secret weapon in the village that can make him stronger, advising him to look for it. She then leaves with the Kakushi and says goodbye.

When the village is attacked by Upper Moons 4 and 5, Mitsuri quickly returns to the blacksmith village in her own district while Tanjiro, Nezuko and Genya are fighting the various forms of Hantengu and Muichiro is fighting Gyokko. She runs to the main houses where the villagers are being attacked by Gyokko's mutant demons and quickly cuts them off. She finds a huge mutant demon fish that starts to crush the village chief after already killing his guards. A bloody bystander tries to get up to save him, but Mitsuri tells him not to get up because his internal organs are most likely injured. She then uses the First Movement of the Breath of Love, The Shivers of First Love to easily kill the demon and says that her heart "will never beat for those who hurt people with sick jokes." Tecchin falls from the mutant fish's grip and Kanroji grabs him to safety. Her eyes fill with tears as she tries to see if he's still alive, and the leader comically says he must be in heaven since he's being held by a pretty girl. She seems surprised and calls him a little pervert as another injured villager asks her to take his hand since he too has fallen on his head, with Mitsuri instantly asking if he is okay. The viewer is immediately relieved.

Mitsuri Kanroji

When Tanjiro is swallowed by one of Zohakuten's tree dragons, Mitsuri slices the creature's head in half, carrying Tanjiro on her back. She screams at the size of the monster and wonders what it is, then asks Tanjiro if he's okay and that it's a good thing she made it in time. After dropping the boy off, she tells him to rest and doesn't hear him trying to tell her that the demon is the Fourth High Moon. She confronts Zohakuten, telling him in a disciplinary manner that his "pranks" have gone too far and that she will take Nezuko and Genya. The demon tells her to shut her mouth, that he only takes orders from one person, then calls her a prostitute. Kanroji is visibly shocked by her rude comment, thinking that he looks as young as his little brother, even though most demons are much older than they look.

The clone of hate and emotion begins to lash out at Mitsuri. Tanjiro calls out to her and, without hesitation, she uses Third Movement of the Breath of Love, Cute Kitten Grooming against her. She declares that she is getting angry, and although Zohakuten may look like a child, her actions are still unforgivable. Tanjiro is shocked at how well she suppressed his lightning bolt, and the demon seems a bit impressed with how well she got through her attack herself.

Mitsuri continues to fight against Zohakuten. She dodges the crushing blow from the maple leaf fan and uses the Second Movement of the Breath of Love, Anxiogenic Love. One of the tree dragons launches another attack from its mouth, but she avoids it with the Sixth Move of the Breath of Love, A Kitten's Paw Love. The demon realizes that she is too fast and follows her attacks, forcing her to use a technique. He uses his Blood Power, whipping many wooden dragons. Mitsuri gets a little nervous about his magnitude and wonders if she can outrun him. She counters with the Fifth Movement of the Breath of Love, Hesitant Attachment - Badly Varnished Nails. She goes on the attack and gets very close to Zohakuten. The demon opens its mouth, confusing Kanroji, although she pushes it aside and goes for his neck. Tanjiro yells at it that it is not the real body and that it will not die if its head is cut off. The Pillar of Love realizes her mistake and is violently hit by the compressed sound waves of Zohakuten. She loses consciousness and collapses in front of the Upper Moon. Tanjiro shouts at her as Genya and Nezuko try to free themselves from the wood and help her. The demon is amazed at how Kanroji has maintained her body shape and resisted his frontal attack. He notices that she may have contracted all her muscles before her attack, and that she is not an ordinary girl, her strength not matching her appearance. He thinks she has "high quality meat" but decides to crush her brains and skull, pulling his fist. As he is about to kill her, her whole life flashes before her eyes.

She wakes up as Tanjiro, Nezuko and Genya fall on her and pull her away from Zohakuten. Tanjiro exclaims that they must protect Mitsuri, for she is their ray of hope and their only chance to win, and none of them will die. The demon launches another quick attack, but Mitsuri cuts it off. She cries as she thanks everyone and apologizes for her mistake, even though she is one of the Pillars. She says that she won't let any of her friends die, that the demon slayers are her precious home, that she won't lose to the "bad guys" and that it's time to get down to business.

Mitsuri remembers everyone who has been an ally in her life and declares that she will protect everyone. She runs towards the demon, slicing her wooden dragons. She herself thinks she needs to get her blood flowing and her heart rate up to become faster and stronger. Zohakuten tries to hit the siblings and Genya, who are trying to find the main body, but the Pillar of Love stops her. The Demon Moon notices how much faster she has become and wonders how she did it. Then he sees a kind of birthmark near his collarbone that he has never seen before, resembling a demon crest. He launches another attack, but Kanroji keeps cutting him, making him annoyed that he can't kill the others. He knows it won't last forever and sooner or later it will run out of stamina.

Just as Kanroji feels like she is going to die, Tanjiro kills the main body and Zohakuten falls to dust. Mitsuri falls to the ground and cries with joy, exclaiming that they had to cut off Hantengu's head. She runs to Tanjiro, Nezuko, Muichiro, Genya and Kotetsu and pulls them into a group hug. She cries and rejoices that they have won. She moans that they are alive and thanks the gods with Nezuko repeating after her.

Bow Pillar Training

An emergency meeting of the Pillars takes place in Ubuyashiki estate. Obanai asks how Mitsuri and Muichiro are doing. Kanroji says that she is feeling much better and happily thinks that they are worried about her, while Muichiro says that he is not yet at full strength. While the Pillars are talking among themselves, Amane, Kiriya and Kanata Ubuyashiki arrive and start the meeting in place of the sick Kagaya Ubuyashiki, with Amane apologizing for the wait. Mitsuri, with the rest of the Pillars, bows to Amane.

The young woman explains how Mitsuri and Muichiro obtained demon slayer marks during their fights, and she asks if they can explain how to obtain them and what the conditions are for this to happen. Mitsuri questions what she means by marks, and Amane explains to the Pillar. When asked again to explain how to get it, the Pillar of Love thinks to herself that Mrs. Ubuyashiki is wonderful, and she begins to explain with great enthusiasm what she felt during her fight. She enthusiastically states that her body was "super light", and that it was like "badaaaaam", "duuurrr", "my ears went screeeeee", and more exaggerated sounds. There is an awkward silence, as everyone is very surprised by her explanation. Very embarrassed, Mitsuri lowers her head to the ground and says that she is extremely sorry and that she will go and hide in a small hole.

When Muichiro tells her condition, Mitsuri turns her head towards him and looks at him with surprise. As he explains it deeply, she thinks that she sees. Amane thanks them, and she says she has something to say about their brand training. Mitsuri tilts her head slightly and asks what that would be, with Amane answering that those who have posted the mark should participate. After the Ubuyashikis leave, Tomioka says that he should also leave. Mitsuri reaches out to Giyu and seems reluctant to his departure. When Sanemi is irritated by the Water Pillar's words, Kanroji says "no fighting" nervously, but Shinazugawa charges towards Tomioka. Mitsuri does not exclaim several times, before Gyomei Himejima claps his hands loudly and stops everyone in the room.

Tanjiro tells later that after Tengen's endurance training, Kanroji takes care of the flexibility training. He also says that those who already have the mark will train so that they can stay in their "marked state" all the time, like a picture of Mitsuri standing on Muichiro and Tanjiro's lap and Nezuko lying on the floor.

When Tanjiro reaches the Kanroji residence, Mitsuri waves to Tanjiro and welcomes him happily into her house. He thanks her and says that he is happy that she is well; she answers that she feels the same. Tanjiro asks if she keeps bees in her house and claims that he smells honey. She proclaims that he understands, expressing her love for making honey and putting it on her bread. She leads him to the kitchen while she says she also likes her bread with tons of butter and pouring herself black tea in the afternoon. Mitsuri tells Tanjiro that she is going to make him pancakes, but he is confused about the food she is offering. During her training, it is shown that Mitsuri forces all members to dress in ballet and dance elegantly non-stop to the music. Tanjiro describes the flexibility as "hell", where she apparently stretches everyone with just her strength.

As Kagaya tells Muzan Kibutsuji about the sleeping creature who absolutely despises him, a picture of Mitsuri, Tanjiro, Nezuko and all the other Pillars is shown. When there is an emergency summons, Mitsuri, as well as his fellow slayers, rush to "Oyakata-sama", hoping that they can reach him in time.

Relations

Obanai Iguro

Obanai is deeply in love with Mitsuri, as he stated in the manga. He feels that he can't tell her, however, it is because of his "dirty blood", caused by the trauma he suffered in the past. He first saw her while she was standing under a sakura tree, that's when he fell in love with her. To show his affection, he gives her gifts, like food or the green socks she wears with her standard uniform. Even though she is the Pillar of Love, she is unaware of his infatuation, so his love is not shared. They also frequently exchange letters with each other. He is very attentive to Mitsuri, as he is immediately able to tell when Mitsuri is feeling down, as well as what food and how much she normally eats.

During the Infinite Dimensional Fortress Arc, they fought the Superior Moon 4, Nakime, showing impressive teamwork, but they were still unable to defeat her before Muzan Kibutsuji killed her himself.

During the fight against Muzan with the other Pillars and Demon Slayers, Mitsuri is seriously injured. Obanai instantly rushes to her side, pulling her away from the battle to get help. As he leaves her with the other Demon Slayers to return to the battle, she is seen screaming his name, begging him to return alive.

After the battle with Muzan, Obanai is seen cradling Mitsuri's body, both aware that they would soon die. The two slayers recall the first time they met at Ubayashiki Mansion and how Mitsuri saved him by making him feel like a normal young man. She worries that she was useless in the end, but he says that he won't let anyone say anything bad about her. Mitsuri admits that she loves him and that the meals she had with him were the best. She also says that he has always looked at her so sweetly and asks him to take her as his wife if they are reborn as humans. Obanai replies that if she agrees with someone like him, then he will certainly make her happy and he will protect her for sure. This wish finally comes true when their reincarnations are married to each other.

Mitsuri Kanroji

Tanjiro Kamado

During their first meeting, Mitsuri reflects on how Tanjiro continues to protect his sister, despite the way Nezuko has been turned into a demon, calling it beautiful brotherly love.

Nezuko Kamado

Mitsuri likes Nezuko a lot, because we see her playing with her during the Blacksmith Village Arc.

Kyojuro Rengoku

Kyojuro Rengoku was Mitsuri's mentor as she derived her own unique breath style, the Breath of Love, from her Breath of Flame. She also has extreme gratitude for Kyojuro.

Shinobu Kocho

Shinobu and Mitsuri get along well because they are the only two female Pillars of the Demon Slayer Army after Kanae's death. Mitsuri admires Shinobu and trusts her enough to share her concerns with her.

Skills & Competencies

General Abilities : As a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Army, Mitsuri is a very powerful swordswoman. She is said to have completed the final selection in only six months of training, which Kyojuro considers exceptional. As a Pillar of Love, Mitsuri uses a fighting style based on "love".

Mark of the Demon Slayers: During her battle with the Upper Moon Four, Hantengu's hate clone, Zohakuten, Mitsuri had unconsciously awakened and obtained her Demon Slayer Mark, which takes the form of two hearts upside down and opposite each other (with angel wings on both sides where the two ends of the heart meet) appearing near her neck, near her collarbone. When this manifested itself, Mitsuri's physical strength, stamina, precision and power increased dramatically to the point where she was able to stand on equal footing against Zohakuten as he unleashed his most powerful techniques against her.

Improved Flexibility: In addition to her extreme physical strength and durability, Mitsuri also possesses incredible flexibility and reflexes, being able to dodge and outmaneuver the Fourth Demon Moon's attacks and use this unique constitution and flexibility to launch powerful attacks.

Enhanced Strength: Since the age of one, Mitsuri has possessed immense strength, allowing her to carry heavy objects, some weighing around 120 pounds. In the battle against Muzan, Mitsuri was even able to physically grab one of Muzan's tentacles and pull it off, without using her blade.

Immense stamina and endurance: In her battle against Hantengu, despite several injuries, she still lasted the longest among Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado and Genya Shinazugawa, and blocked him long enough for them to win.

Immense Speed and Reflexes: In her battle against Upper Moon 4, she is able to surpass her normal attacks, forcing the demon to start using her blood power. After awakening her demon slayer mark, her speed increases even more. That said, she is not as fast as some of her fellow Pilots, as evidenced by the battle against Muzan, where she had trouble keeping up with him, forcing her to rely on luck and instinct to dodge. This proved unsuccessful as she was hit by several attacks, forcing her to withdraw from the fight for a long period of time.

Unique Constitution: Mitsuri has a special muscle composition with eight times the density of an ordinary human. Although her limbs are thin, they possess incredible strength and endurance capable of maintaining her body structure after a point-blank attack from the Fourth Moon. To maintain his body composition, Mitsuri eats up to three times the amount of sumo wrestlers.

Mitsuri Kanroji

Fighting Style

Master Swordswoman; As a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Army, Mitsuri is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.

Sword skills

Breath of Love: A style of Breathing that Mitsuri developed from her experience with using the Breath of Flame.

First Movement: The Thrills of First Love
(壱いちノ型かた 初はつ恋こいのわななき Ichi no Kata: Hatsukoi no Wananaki) Mitsuri charges forward with a series of sword strikes.

Second Movement: Anxiogenic Love
(弐にノ型かた 懊おう悩のう巡めぐる恋こい Ni no Kata: Ônômeguru Koi) An elongated sword strike in the form of a whip

Third Move: Cute Kitten Grooming
(参さんノ型かた 恋こい猫ねこしぐれ San no Kata: Koineko Shigure) Mitsuri jumps up and unleashes a series of arcing attacks from a distance in quick succession.

Fifth Movement: Hesitant Attachment - Badly Varnished Nails
(伍ごノ型かた 揺ゆらめく恋れん情じょう・乱みだれ爪づめ Go no Kata: Yurameku Renjô - Midaredzume) Mitsuri somersaults backwards through the air, creating a long chain of whip-like attacks, before wrapping her sword around her opponent's neck.

Sixth Move: Cat's Paw Love.
(陸ろくノ型かた 猫ねこ足あし恋こい風かぜ Roku no Kata: Nekoashi Koikaze) Kanroji spins upside down and creates several cutting attacks before retracting and extending it again, all in a very short amount of time.

Breath of Flame (炎ほのおの呼こ吸きゅう Honô no kokyû): A Breathing style that has worked in the Rengoku family since Breathing styles were invented and was taught to Mitsuri by Kyojuro. However, although Mitsuri learned it, she was not as skilled with it and cannot fight to the fullest using it, leading her to develop only the Breath of Love.

Equipment

Sword of the Sun: Mitsuri wields an extremely thin and soft "love sword". She has the fastest techniques of the Pillars due to the strong flexibility of her blade, the softness of her muscles and the mobility of her joints. Because of the difficulty of handling her sword, only she can use it. Her katana is pink in color and its handle is shaped like a 4-leaf clover; The leaves have a pink core with a golden border, with the words Destroy Demons (惡あっ鬼き滅めっ殺さつ, Akki Messatsu) engraved on the side.
