Monkey D. Luffy (モンキー・Ｄディー・ルフィ, Monkī Dī Rufi) is a pirate and the main protagonist of the manga and anime One Piece. Luffy is the son of Revolutionary Army leader Monkey D. Dragon,the grandson of famous Navy hero Monkey D. Garp, the adopted son of a mountain bandit Curly Dadan as well as the adopted brother of the late Portgas D. Ace and Sabo.

His dearest dream is to become the Lord of the Pirates by finding the legendary One Piece treasure, hidden somewhere in the world by Gol D. Roger. Roger. According to him, this dream is realized by becoming the freest person alive. He mistakenly ate a Demon Fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which allows him to be an elastic man, which the Red Crew took from a World Government convoy.
As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Crew, he was the first member to join. He is also the unwitting founder of the Great Straw Hat Fleet, though he refuses to be its Captain, not wanting to deprive others of their freedom.
Luffy has a worldwide reputation for causing unrest and disasters, even among the 7 Corsair Captains and the Navy, going so far as to challenge two of the Four Emperors (Big Mom and Kaido), as well as committing crimes and actions considered dangerous by the World Government. He has received the reputation of being "reckless" and "crazy", due to his exploits in the world. He is also famous for burning the flag of the World Government at Enies Lobby, declaring war on the World Government, before defeating the CP9 there with his crew; hitting a Celestial Dragon at Sabaody; defeated several of the Big 7 Corsairs (Crocodile, Gecko Moria or Doflamingo); infiltrated and escaped from Impel Down by causing a gigantic escape (the biggest in the prison's history); and joined the Battle of Marine Ford, on the side of Whitebeard's Crew. In addition, he is known to be the only pirate to have not only infiltrated all three of the Government's capital facilities, but also to have escaped all three alive. This history of troublemaking quickly earned Luffy the label of "dangerous element in the future", especially for Admiral Commander-in-Chief Sakazuki, making the Navy one of his greatest enemies.
His actions, among others, resulted in a current bounty of Symbol Berry.gif1,500,000,000. Having had a bounty of Symbol Berry.gif300,000,000 prior to his arrival in the Sabaody Archipelago, Luffy was one of the eleven renowned pirates known as the "Eleven Supernovae", eleven pirates with bounties exceeding Symbol Berry.gif100,000,000 who arrived in the Sabaody Archipelago at the same time. His new bounty acquired after the events of the Whole Cake Island Arc led the press to name him the "Fifth Emperor" of the seas.

General appearance
Luffy is known for wearing his Straw Hat (hence his epithet "Straw Hat Luffy") which the legendary pirate captain Shanks "the Red" gave him when he was young, the latter holding it himself from Roger. Luffy also has a scar with two stitches under his left eye (a self-inflicted wound with a knife under his eye to prove his courage to Shanks), and fairly short black hair.
Similar to most of the men in his crew, Luffy wears the same clothes most of the time, unlike the rest of the crew (especially Nami and Nico Robin), who change their clothes frequently.
Wherever he is, Luffy always wears his Straw Hat, even if at the beginning, the hat could easily fall off his head, because it was unstable, which forced Luffy to put it aside, or to ask someone to hold it for him (most often Nami).
Before the ellipse
He wears short pants and sandals and a red sleeveless jacket. Looking a bit skinny under his shirt, he has a surprisingly well-built physique. He is quite small, dwarfed by many of the larger characters in the series.
Luffy may wear a different outfit to suit the climate of the different islands (such as a hooded parka for Drum Island or a desert dress for Alabasta), but will change into his jacket and shorts as soon as his island adventures are over. Despite this, he will wear his usual outfit in different colors and has been known to carry various other items on him from time to time.
During the Drum Island Arc, he wore two parkas, the first being a dark red parka with fur on the sleeves, hood and hems, and then a plaid hooded parka with the following colors: white, orange and pale yellow that Nami wore at first.
During the Alabasta Arc, he wore a desert robe consisting of a dark red robe with three white rings decorated on both sleeves and a pale blue shawl over his head. He also received a cord for his Straw Hat, which was sewn by Nami, allowing the hat to hang around his neck during battle.
During the Skypiea Bow, he wore a black bracelet around his left wrist, topped with a white ring.
During the Davy Back Fight Arc, Luffy wore an afro, dark red shorts and red bandages on his feet, as well as tattoos of a flaming skull and blue shins painted on his chest when he fought Foxy "the Silver Fox".
During the Enies Lobby Arc, he wore black shorts with pockets in which he could carry meat.
During the Post-Enies Lobby Arc, Luffy wore a white T-shirt with the red Galley-La Company emblem and red linings around the upper shoulders and collar, along with navy blue shorts.
During the Arc of Thriller Bark, he wore an orange jacket and red shorts. After his fight against Moria in Thriller Bark, Luffy wore a dark armband around his left bicep that was quite ornate. This armband was later revealed to be a map to Captain John's lost treasure, which Baggy had recently begun searching for, leading Luffy to give him the armband in exchange for his services in helping him navigate the interior of Impel Down prison.
During the Sabaody Arc, he wore a dark blue jacket and navy blue shorts.
During the Amazon Lily Arc, our Straw Hat wore a light blue jacket and red shorts.
During the Impel Down Arc, Luffy wore the outfit from his Amazon Lily adventure, just after his fight with Magellan, where he replaced his blue jacket with a pale yellow one that Inazuma provided him.
During the Marine Ford Arc, although Jinbe protected him with his body, Luffy was severely injured by an attack from Akainu, leaving him with his famous X-shaped scar on his chest.
During the Wano Kuni Arc, he will wear his post-Elipse outfit, and all of Luffy's outfits have had a reason. The current outfit with the cape defines the rescue of the country of Wa from the will of the country of Tama Hunger.
During his return to Marine Ford, to perform a silent prayer, Luffy was seen briefly with four characters written on his right arm: "3D2Y", the "3D" being crossed out to make his crew understand that they will have to meet within 2 years ("2Y" for "2 years") instead of the 3 days ("3D" for "3 days") agreed upon, following their defeat by Bartholomew Kuma and Luffy's decision to train to be able to survive until the end of the journey.
After the ellipse
After these two years, Luffy is seen wearing a red wool vest with 4 buttons on top (showing the X-shaped scar covering most of his chest, evidence of the near-death attack inflicted on him by ex-Admiral Akainu), and a yellow scarf around his waist, somewhat reminiscent of Roger's outfit. He has not grown significantly (2 cm more), but he has become more muscular due to his Herculean training and is much stronger. The fruit of this training can be seen in that his neck is slightly thicker with more pronounced deltoids and a larger chest as well. In addition, he tries to appear discreet with the help of a false white beard and sunglasses, so as not to be spotted by the Navy (which ultimately did not succeed due to the capabilities of the Pacifistas). This costume often leads to comical situations.

During the Arc Dressrosa, Luffy wears a dark blue shirt with orange-yellow patterns evoking flowers or suns. During the tournament at the Coliseum Corrida, he wears the beard and glasses disguise (and renames himself "Lucy"). He will also wear a goldfish disguise with a bun for a short time, in order to get into the Royal Palace.
