Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, formerly incorrectly romanized as Neliel Tu Oderschvank, is the former Espada tercera (3). She is also known as Nel Tu, and is a small, childlike Arrancar with a good character.

She lives in the desert of Hueco Mundo with her adopted brothers and former Fraccións Dondochakka Bilstin and Pesche Guatiche and their pet, Bawabawa.
Apparence
Nelliel is an Arrancar with hazel eyes and short green hair. In her child form, her eyes are incredibly wide, her canines on her lower jaw are larger than usual, and the remains of her Hollow mask make up a skull that sits on top of her head. A crack runs along the left side of the mask and four teeth on the left side of the skull are broken. She has a large scar running down from her forehead to her nose and a red line running horizontally across her face below her eyes. Her clothes consist of a simple green dress with a hood that covers her entire body.
Her true form is that of a fully grown adult with curves and well endowed with long greenish-blue hair, while retaining similar features to her child form, including the scar and red line that runs across her face. Her dress is now torn into a skirt and top, connected with a single band across her abdomen. Also, his skull mask is slightly different, his features appear sharper and less cartoonish with a pair of curved horns, but some of his teeth are still missing. A large "3" is tattooed on her back, indicating that she was the former 3rd Espada.
Personality
Child shape
Nell's appearance is in stark contrast to her vocabulary, which contains a number of odd expressions and words that one would not expect to come out of the mouth of a child her age, such as when she calls her uvula and refers to herself as a masochist. Ichigo Kurosaki assumes that her fellow Hollows are responsible for this. Nell and her companions are also strange for Hollows: although most Hollows are evil, Nell actually fears the Shinigami and assumes that they are actually the evil ones. Nevertheless, she becomes attached to Ichigo and follows him into Las Noches. During their superb introduction she prefers the name "The Nel-Don-Pe Thieves." She also seems to speak with a lisp in her child form, frequently pronouncing the "S "s into "T "s.
Adult form
Nelliel is much more mature, composed, logical, subtle and intelligent than her child form. She is also
also relatively fair in terms of how to fight, stating that one should not fight for hatred, prejudice, or simple competition, as Nnoitra does, which seems instinctive and beastly to her, and this makes him "childish," "unworthy," and "not like a warrior," although Nelliel has proven, during her last few minutes as an Espada, that it is "acceptable" to fight for revenge, and she then fights to avenge her Fraccións. Unlike many Arrancars, Nelliel is a pacifist, and according to her Fracción, she disdained to engage in combat even when she was still among the Espada members, except for self-defense or to protect those dear to her heart. It is for this reason that Pesche and Dondochakka decided to leave her in her child form and left Las Noches. She refuses to finish off weaker or injured opponents, and stops fighting them once they are disarmed or unable to fight, a personality trait shared with Kenpachi Zaraki.
As seen during her many battles with Nnoitra, Nelliel has proven to be relatively calm and quiet in battle, preferring to speak only if spoken to, a rather rare trait among most Arrancar. She is even shown to enjoy reading, usually seen reading a book after her mission or after waiting for Nnoitra to wake up after their recent battle.
Nelliel has also proven to be a loyal, respectful, and trustworthy warrior, who will diligently follow her commander's orders, if said commander has proven herself worthy.
She is also knowledgeable, analytical, easy-going, quite compassionate (usually towards her friends), humorous in her own right, and exuding a cheerful and energetic demeanor when she has time off. Although after growing up physically, she somehow maintains her childlike affection for Ichigo, as seen when she unexpectedly cuddled him very tightly after Nnoitra's attack without realizing that Ichigo was losing consciousness (although the anime flashback of Nel's accident suggests that she was still somewhat childlike outside of combat).
History
Several years earlier, Nelliel held the rank of 3rd Espada. During her time in this position, she was constantly challenged in battle by Nnoitra Jiruga to show that men are stronger than women. Nnoitra exterminated an entire Arrancar colony, prompting Nelliel to ask her why, as no orders were given to do so. Nnoitra stated that no one ordered him not to kill them either. Nelliel then reminded her that Aizen's order was to "look for the Vasto Lorde", she later explained that wiping out entire colonies went against that order. He answered that not all were loyal to Aizen, that if they resist, they are rebels, and slaughtering rebels is a way to help Aizen. He reasoned later that if he could kill them, then they were not Vasto Lorde, and therefore he was following orders very well. He then informed her that she only got angry because he had killed a couple of hundred low-level Hollows. Nelliel then suggested that she should think before she spoke, for they themselves were low-level Hollows like the ones he killed; that it was just luck that they had evolved to this point, and nothing else. Nnoitra continued her taunting and asked her to fight him, but only if she thought she could beat him if it made her mad. She simply replied that he was tiring, that Nnoitra had remained a child even after becoming an Arrancar. Nnoitra asked her about her comment and insulted her, but he was apparently attacked from behind and passed out.
When he woke up, he saw that Nelliel was sitting next to him, reading a book and that a dead Hollow was nearby. He asked her why she had saved him, but she simply replied that she had not "saved" him, she had simply prevented the Espada from losing a limb by preventing him from committing suicide. Nnoitra explained that he couldn't stand her, but that she probably already knew that, and asked him why she kept following him around. She simply looked at him and said that it was because he was weaker than her. Nnoitra later continued to kill Hollows and Arrancars in the same way, determining that they were unlucky to have crossed her path. Nelliel pointed out that he had just killed an Arrancar and he replied that he knew that and wanted to tell her a fact that he would only explain once. Something he wanted her to know if she continued to follow him, that no matter who he met, he would not be benevolent or merciful.
Some time later, Nnoitra challenged Nelliel to a fight and she explained again that she will not raise her blade against guys like her. She then said that she will not be dragged into her crazy world, and Nnoitra replied that she did not understand that the only reason people fight each other is the simple desire to draw their blades. Nelliel replied that she did not understand this reasoning. She then asked him what is the reason for his bloodlust. Nnoitra simply stated that he wished to give his final breath in the heat of battle; to know the reason for his entire existence, defined by that moment, is his greatest desire. Nelliel challenges this philosophy by pointing out to him that this would only be a temporary glory. He then says that he agrees with this, but that nothing else could fill this void. He finally declares that he has been given power and that he will use it to kill anyone who gets in his way until he dies on the ground, killed by someone's blade.
During this time, Nnoitra continued to challenge Nelliel to a fight, and each time she beat him easily. It was during one of these fights, when she was about to leave, that he told her that it was a battle to the death. When she asked him if that meant one had to finish the other, he said she understood, but she told him she simply refused and told him to stop trying to act like an adult. She went on to say that long ago they stopped being human and became beasts. But by becoming Arrancar, they had regained their reason. She explained to him that reasonable people fight with a reason to fight and that he had none. Nnoitra shouted at him that he had a reason to fight, that he hated her. Nelliel answered that it was not a just reason, but an instinct because he is a beast and she does not recognize him as a warrior. On that note, she had no desire to have the death of someone who is not a warrior on her conscience. After Nelliel left, Nnoitra was approached by Tesla who then offered her hand. In response, he threw his Zanpakutō at her, striking the column behind the Arrancar. He told him not to act friendly with him just because he lost, that it doesn't mean they are on the same level. When Tesla asked him why he wanted to beat Nelliel and no other Espada, Nnoitra explained that it was because he hated her, that she was a female standing higher than a man in battle; that was his reason.
Some time later, Nnoitra teamed up with Szayel Aporro Granz (who was not yet an Espada at the time) to carry out a surprise attack on Nelliel and thus test a device that Nelliel had created. While Nelliel was looking for her Fracción, she was confronted by Nnoitra, who asked her if she was looking for something. Nelliel replied that it was none of her business and asked her if he was showing his weapon to try to intimidate her. She advised him to keep it hidden if he did not want to appear weak. An explosion caught Nelliel's attention. Once the smoke cleared, she saw her Fraccións, Pesche Guatiche and Dondochakka Bilstin, seriously wounded. She then turned to Nnoitra, furious, and asked him if he had forcibly removed their masks.
They then engaged in a fight that lasted a few minutes, then when Nelliel mortally hit Nnoitra, he disappeared into dust: it was in fact a false image of Nnoitra created by Szayel to distract Nelliel. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Nnoitra attacked Nelliel from behind, causing a head injury and breaking her mask on her left side. The attack left her unconscious. He then took her inert body and said that she would probably call this a bestial act, but that he didn't care. He was joined by Szayel and asked what he wanted, because his work was done now. Szayel replied that he was speaking coldly when they had worked together as partners and that he had at least the duty to admire the subject after the experiment. Nnoitra replied that he did not remember being his partner and that he just happened to have the same interests at one time. Nnoitra threw Nelliel out of Las Noches so that he could increase his power before she returned.
Nnoitra told Szayel that they were leaving, but Szayel replied that he had no orders to give him. Nnoitra replied that he was not even an Espada. Szayel pointed out that without his help, he could not even attack Nelliel. Nnoitra asked him if he should speak to him in that tone of voice. He then looked at the bodies of Nelliel and her Fraccións on the other side of Las Noches and was surprised to see that she had taken on the appearance of a child. Szayel said that he had not foreseen this and that he had never seen anything like this happen before. He deduced that his Reiatsu had come out through the crack in his mask, shrinking his spirit body as a result.
A moment later, Pesche and Dondochakka swore that they would protect the weakened Nel at any cost. They played the roles of her older brothers, never revealing their true identities or Nelliel's for fear of her memory returning. Pesche explained that they did this because she had always hated fighting, and in her child form, she was finally spared from it.
Sypnosis
Arch of the Hueco Mundo
Yasutora Sado and Uryū Ishida are running to Las Noches to rescue Orihime Inoue , they come across Nel and think she is a human girl being chased by three Hollows. After Ichigo and his friends attack the three, Nel yells at him to stop being mean to them. Ichigo then realizes that Nel is actually a hollow herself and not a human. They all then apologize to Ichigo and his friends because they didn't think that their "eternal quest" game would cause such a misunderstanding and they all come forward. Nel tells Ichigo that Dondochakka and Pesche are his brothers and Bawabawa is their pet. Ichigo is confused because he has never heard of Arrancar having brothers and sisters. Dondochakka explains that he just found Nel hanging out and that he just had to become his brother. Everyone then decides to ride Bawabawa to get to Las Noches faster.
On the way, Ichigo questions if they are really Arrancar because they have a different feel then those he met in the human world. Nel explains that those who went to the human world were Números , who are Arrancar that are at least as strong as Menos Grande. She continues to explain that they are ruled by the Espada and are expert fighters who are "dirty bugs". She then notices that Ichigo is not like an Arrancar either because of his lack of mask and black clothes. Ichigo then tells her that he is a Shinigami and that causes Nel to panic thinking that they will all get killed if they go to Las Noches. All of a sudden, Runuganga, the guardian of the white sands, appears and confronts Nel and her friends.
Runuganga explains that he got information from Las Noches about the invading people and that Nel
joining with them is unforgivable and Nel tries to explain that she is not with them. All of a sudden, Ichigo uses Getsuga Tenshō and divides Runuganga's head in half. Ichigo thinks he has won, but Runuganga gets up and brings his head back together. Nel explains that he is all sand in the area and can always come back together. Ichigo, realizing that he can't be beaten, decides to run away and think of a strategy. Runuganga says that he will not allow that well and forms a massive pit in the sand that begins to suck them down. Ichigo asks Nel if he has a weakness and she explains this water and he asks where they will find it. All of a sudden, a huge explosion of ice comes and freezes Runuganga completely. The ice breaks and kills Runuganga. Ichigo looks to see who did this and
finds Rukia Kuchiki and Renji Abarai . Ichigo jumps from Bawabawa and goes to meet Rukia and Renji. Nel is panicked by this, continuing to think that Shinigami are bad. Ichigo comes back with Rukia and Renji and they start riding Bawabawa again. They end up going next to Las Noches and break into the palace with a force . Ichigo and his group break into Las Noches and split into five directions, leaving Nel and his brothers behind. The siblings decide to follow Ichigo, but get lost. Nel is the only one who catches up with Ichigo, arriving just in time to be
confronted by Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio , a Privaron Espada with a number of # 103.
When Dordoni tries to fire a Cero blast at Ichigo, Nel steps in, absorbing the blast and shooting back. Exasperated, Dordoni attacks Nel, who is then saved by Ichigo. Ichigo apologizes to her for holding back her power, which caused her to intervene and get hurt. Dordoni then makes an attempt to attack Nel after spurring Ichigo by using his Hollowfication. Outraged, Ichigo places Nel down and Hollowfies, attacking and beating Dordoni with ease, as Nel watches. Dordoni later awakens to a drooling Nel who uses his "saliva" to heal his wounds. He then explains to Ichigo and Nel why he faced them, then goes to attack them again, even though he has already lost. Ichigo quickly takes him down and leaves with Nel. During her journey further into Las Noches with Ichigo, she witnesses her clashes with Ulquiorra Cifer , the 4th Espada and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez , the 6th Espada.
After Ichigo finishes Grimmjow, they are suddenly attacked by Nnoitra Gilga, the 5 Espada. As they fight, Nnoitra notices Nel, recognizes her stating that she has become pathetic and asks if her mask hurts broken. Ichigo then questions how Nnoitra knows Nel. Nnoitra explains that he was wondering why she was here understanding Ichigo brought her, but states that he now realizes Ichigo brought her not knowing who she really was. Ichigo is confused, not knowing what Nnoitra means so the Espada explains that she is Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, an ex-Espada. Nel tries to deny the accusation prompting Nnoitra to step on her, but blocks Ichigo's attack and while Ichigo is telling Nel not to worry, he himself is kicked and is sent flying. Nnoitra comments that it does seem, as if she has lost her memory, but after having her head broken, it is not surprising that she has forgotten everything that happened. Ichigo questions what he means by broken; Nnoitra explains as he chooses Nel by the head that he is the one who broke the head. Ichigo yells at him to stop and becomes furious, charges at him, but Nnoitra counters only for Ichigo to get in close and slash him in the center of his chest. But then Ichigo realizes his blade has made contact, but did nothing. Nnoitra asks if he has already forgotten that there is no way he can cut him with this blade. He then throws Ichigo again sending him further away, explaining that Nel always drove him crazy as Ichigo is doing now, so why he broke his head from behind and threw him out of Las Noches. Ichigo yells at him to let go and rushes to attack him, but Nnoitra counters and throws Nel away in the process. As he heads towards an injured Ichigo, he says it was time to end this as he grabs Ichigo's sword arm and breaks his wrist. Seeing Ichigo in pain triggers Nel's transformation into her original form to Nnoitra's surprise. Nnoitra declares that she has returned to her original form.
Before he realizes, she uses Sonido to move Ichigo to a safe distance from him. After a short conversation with Ichigo, who reassures her that they are still friends, Nel decides to face Nnoitra. Although Ichigo is uncertain at first, he sees the tattoo on his back signifying his former rank of 3rd Espada. Nelliel rushes to attack Nnoitra and cuts him across the chest before he can react, surprising him. He tries to attack her, but she effortlessly throws her Zanpakutō away, pushing him off balance and sending him some distance from her. He stops and fires a Cero finish at her, causing Ichigo to scream at trying to warn her. Nelliel simply places her hand to stop the explosion much to Nnoitra's surprise. She then sucks the entire blast into her mouth and fires a Cero Doble causing her to explode. Tesra allows Orihime to go as he runs off to help his master, but no sooner does he do so than he is sent flying away into the nearby debris. Nnoitra seems injured along his right side, asking Tesra who told him to let go of that woman to whom he apologizes.Nnoitra smiles at Nelliel and asks him what was wrong, questioning him about how he could still be alive following this attack. He notes that his face asks that. He then admits that he forgot his Cero Doble, his technique of the mark. He then explains to her that she doesn't get it, as she has forgotten one thing. He asks her how many years have passed since she disappeared. He then states that she should not think the power of the Espada current is the same as when she was Espada and that the number on her back is meaningless today. The two Arrancar continue to fight both face to face evenly. As they fight Nnoitra asks her if she remembers calling him a beast and even saying that their forces were not even. He then gloats, asking how it feels to be beaten to death by the same beast. Nelliel then kicks his Zanpakutō away as Nnoitra stings him. Nelliel tells her that it is a pity because it will be difficult to transform again after just returning to its original form. Therefore, she did not want to resort to it, and she begins to release her Zanpakutō. Nnoitra, realizing what she is doing, moves to stop her, but not fast enough and is pushed back by Reiatsu's release . He is quickly overwhelmed as Nelliel uses her "Lanzador Verde" technique which he tries to stop with his Zanpakutō, but the attack goes through, slamming him against a slab of rock. Nelliel goes to Nnoitra and tells her that he is finished, but there is no need to despair as she will not take his life. However, she returns in a child to the surprise of everyone. Nnoitra steps on her and laughs at her kick again, causing an enraged Ichigo to attack again, only to be slammed into the ground. After getting bored with the fight against Ichigo, he commands Tesra to finish him off, to which Tesra releases her Zanpakutō and proceeds to beat Ichigo mercilessly. Nnoitra then forces Nel to watch as Ichigo is brutalized.
She is soon healed by Orihime when Kenpachi Zaraki manages to beat Tesra, then Nnoitra. Nel, after being left unconscious for a brief period of time, wakes up and locks eyes with Nnoitra while saying his name as he dies, implying that his memories are permanently restored. But when Coyote Starrk suddenly appears to kidnap Orihime, she remains on the battlefield as Ichigo leaves to rescue her.
Skills and Competencies
Children's form
Healing Saliva: Her saliva appears to possess some form of weak healing property. It is activated when she puts her hand in her mouth and shakes her uvula, making her vomit. This vomit looks very similar to saliva, leading one to believe that it really is.
Armband: Made by Kisuke Urahara, Nel wears an armband that allows her to return to her original adult form.
Cero Doble: A unique ability that allows him to swallow an enemy's cero and spit it out with a more powerful force by adding his own cero. The eyes of his mask become red and its use seems to exhaust him a lot.
Rudimentary Sonído: She can speed up her movements with what appears to be a rudimentary form of Sonído, used when she refers to it as Chōka Soku (Japanese for "superb speed"). When she employs this form of Sonído, the eyes of her mask glow.
Adult Form
Swordsmanship Specialist: As a former Espada, Nelliel has a lot of combat experience, showing very little effort in swordplay. Her graceful body moves elegantly when she fights, so finely tuned that she can stop her blows at a precise moment and execute deadly attacks with absolute precision and she has easily beaten Nnoitra, who is a highly skilled swordsman, several times. Despite Nnoitra's claim that Espada's power levels had changed greatly during the time she was away (that she was therefore less powerful) and that her abilities had not fully recovered, Nelliel could have beaten him, and the only reason he survived longer and had to be put down by Kenpachi was that she accidentally reverted to her child form in the middle of the battle.
Expert Hand-to-Hand Fighter: Even without the aid of her Zanpakutō, Nelliel proved to be quite a powerful fighter. During her battle with Nnoitra, she was able to skillfully dodge and parry his attacks. She also used her swordplay along with her hand-to-hand combat.
Master in Sonido: Her speed increased considerably after her transformation into an adult, being able to sneak away several times and avoid Nnoitra without any effort thanks to her considerable speed. She was also able to easily carry the injured Ichigo to a safer place while Nnoitra tried to attack her.
Cero Doble: She retains her ability to swallow a cero in its original form, but now performs it with greater ease. According to Nnoitra, Nelliel's specialty is swallowing a Cero and spitting it out with her own, thus creating a Cero Doble (Spanish for "double zero"), which is pink in color. She is now powerful enough to absorb and spit out an Espada's Cero without tiring, whereas she was immediately powerful when she only half absorbed a Privaron's Cero in her child form.
Hierro: Nelliel, in its original form, has the hierro suitable for the strength of an Espada. It is strong enough to allow him to parry Nnoitra's blade with a kick without showing any sign of injury.
Increased Strength: His strength is greatly increased compared to his child form. With her great physical stamina, Nelliel is able to defend herself even against the blows of Nnoitra's colossal weapon, push her opponent back several feet with a small attack, and slice through the Hierro of an Espada-level Arrancar effortlessly in a simple swing of her Zanpakutō. She is also able to stop Nnoitra's Cero with her bare hands.
Immense Spiritual Power: As she was once one of the original members of the Espada, Nelliel was formally forbidden from releasing her Zanpakutō inside the dome of Las Noches. She has immense spiritual pressure, powerful enough for her Fracción to sense her from a great distance. Renji even stated that her spiritual power was close to Ichigo, confusing the two for a moment. This is also due to the fact that, like Ichigo, his spiritual pressure comes out in a constant stream.
High Intellect: In her original form, she is truly very intelligent. Having a great understanding of combat as well as the techniques, skills and intentions of the opponent, she can discern personalities easily. She also has a philosophy of life that provides her with a code of honor, respect and mercy. However, her childish antics can sometimes block her intelligence, such as when she clutches Ichigo, who has been badly injured, so tightly that he cannot breathe.
Zanpakutō
Gamuza, Gamyūsa; Spanish for "chamois," Japanese for "antelope knight": its Zanpakutō has a green hilt and a guard resembling a pair of lunar crescents joined from behind (somewhat similar to Nnoitra's).
- Resurrección: His release phrase is "famous" (謳え, utae). Nelliel holds his Zanpakutō horizontally in front of his head and declares his release phrase. The Zanpakutō glows and a misty smoke emanates from it. She utters the name of her Zanpakutō and the glow intensifies in a tremendous burst of her spiritual pressure that greatly affects the environment nearby. In her new form, Nel takes on the shape of a green-brown centaur-like antelope with a black horse-like tail. Her Hollow mask horns become longer and curved, extending slightly to frame the sides of her face, especially the cheeks. The slit on his mask also closes, although the four teeth remain absent. His shoulders are then covered by strong white protections continuing to the bottom of his neck, others also appear on his elbows and white protective gauntlets form on his hands. The parts of his arms that are not covered by the armor are covered by a black garment. A solid white ring appears at the base of her tail and her Zanpakutō transforms into a double spear. She is one of the Arrancars known to have a weapon after their Resurrección (the Zanpakutōs disappearing upon the Resurrección of most Arrancars). All of this equipment grants him the overall appearance of a medieval knight or jouster.
- Special abilities of his Resurrección:
Strength and Spiritual Pressure: In this form, these are greatly increased - Attacks: The only attack she has used in this form so far is Lanzador Verde. The full extent of Gamuza's abilities is still unknown.
- Lanzador Verde, ransadōru verude; Spanish for "Green Lancer", Japanese for "Jade Spear") : Nelliel throws her spear at her opponent with extreme speed. While in the air, she begins to spin around and build up spiritual pressure. When it reaches its target, it acts like a drill, digging into the skin and inflicting enormous damage. This technique is powerful enough to push Nnoitra back and break his Zanpakutō that he used to place in front of him to block attacks
Fracture
- Dondochakka Bilstin is a large, mottled humanoid Arrancar with an African mask and very large eyes. He speaks often ending his sentences with "for sure" and is quite docile compared to other Hollows. Despite his menacing appearance, he is prone to large bursts of tears at the slightest emotion, usually when he is worried about something.
- Pesche Guatiche is apparently a harmless humanoid Arrancar whose mask resembles an insect's head with a large pair of lower jaws. He wears an eye patch and a loincloth. His Hollow hole is placed slightly lower than usual, near his stomach instead of his rib cage. Pesche and Dondochakka were once the Fraccións of Nelliel Tu Oderschvank, but their masks were forcibly taken from them by Nnoitra Jiruga and Szayel Aporro Granz, and were left for dead with Nell. After realizing that their mistress had turned into a helpless child, they vowed to protect her. According to Pesche, they hid their true identities from Nell because they feared this would bring back her memory. Neither of them wanted this because Nelliel strongly disliked fighting, and in her child form, she would not have to fight anymore. Pesche and Dondochakka spent the time traveling around the Hueco Mundo keeping Nell entertained with games like perpetual cat while always practicing (probably without her knowing it) to better protect her.
- Bawabawa is a giant eel-like Hollow whose Hollow mask consists of a simple board with a pair of horns placed on its head. He is a parasite that Dondochakka keeps inside him and lets him out at will, giving him a special Fracción rank. It acts as a pet and transport for Pesche, Dondochakka, and Nell. Bawabawa has a tendency to get angry when he is not mentioned in the group of Nell, Pesche and Dondochakka.
Censorship
Because of the censorship, Nelliel's clothes in her adult form have been slightly modified between the anime and the manga, but this modification is still very small and is not noticed if you don't pay attention to it. It seems that in the anime, Nelliel's top was extended compared to the manga to cover the places of her chest being naked in this one. The bottom of her breasts was indeed visible in the original version and is hidden in the anime.
