Kozuki Oden was the Daimyo of Kuri of Wa Country and the disowned son of the former Shogun Kozuki Sukiyaki. He was also the husband of Toki, the father of Momonosuke and Hiyori. He was the leader of the nine red scabbards who were extremely loyal to him. He was also a member of the Whitebeard Crew as the commander of the 2nd division, as well as the Roger Pirate Crew.

Apparence
He was dark with long black hair combed flat on top of his head, he had a kind of hat that was quite big. He was wearing a kimono (the kimono was red when he was with Roger). He was tall as he looked much taller than most of the former pirate king's crew. After confronting Orochi, Oden, for the first time, began dancing in the street half-naked, wearing only a large dark loincloth. During this time, Oden grew some facial hair and her eyes were a bit lost. Twenty years ago, Oden was seen with a slight beard at the height of his chin.
Personality
Oden was a very tall and muscular man of imposing height, measuring 382 cm. He had long, wild black hair that was notably gathered into a large flat circular plane at the top, and also included a prominent widow's peak and triangular sideburns. He had relatively sharp black eyes whose inner and outer corners were marked by black teeth running down and up respectively, and above a pair of prominent and highly arched eyebrows. He had a slightly hooked medium-sized nose, a large expressive mouth, and a broad chin. In the five years before his disappearance, he grew a small goatee. For clothing, Oden usually wore an orange kimono, leaving most of his legs exposed; the kimono had two yellow crescent moon designs on it. Oden also wore a large purple and white nio-dasuki tied around his shoulders that went down his back. He often alternated between this kimono and a similar longer kimono, with his nio-dasuki worn as a belt and tied in the front. Oden also wore his favorite swords Enma and Ame no Habakiri on his left waist, nestled in an obi belt. At the party with the Whitebeard Pirates, he wore a light colored shirt, dark colored pants and a crown on his head.
Oden was an extremely reckless, arrogant and egotistical man. This motivated him to commit outrageous and violent acts for his own benefit during his youth and adolescence, such as burning down the yakuza establishment after being banished from it and kidnapping women (free of their actions) at night to form a harem in the mountains. Overall, he was known to have been involved in a significant amount of violent fighting, and he cared little about the consequences of his actions, as he willingly clashed with the yakuza and the women's relatives when the two aforementioned incidents resulted in fighting. Although most men were appalled by his actions, his attitude made him very attractive to women, including those he kidnapped for his harem because they stayed with him voluntarily.
He was very perverse, considering his personal harem.
After being sentenced to work in the quarries, Oden became less selfish and began to act to improve the lives of the people around him. However, these actions were just as outrageous and ill thought out as the previous ones. The most notable example was when he tried to help the citizens during a drought by diverting a river to the city, which caused the city to flood. Also, when a mountain god attacked the flower capital, Oden quickly sprang into action to try and deal with it. After being exiled by Sukiyaki, he seems to have improved his ability to help others, as he was able to bring peace to Kuri.
Oden's favorite food was stew and he also liked to drink sake, having started drinking alcohol when he was only eight years old.
Oden was also very intrepid and wanted to go to sea illegally to travel. In his youth, he considered this dream more important than preparing to succeed his father as shogun. After sailing with Roger's Pirates, he decided that he wanted to take over as shogun and open the borders of Wano, in order to change the whole world. He then chose his vassals to become his loyal samurai rather than others. He then took notes of his journey, having heard that sailors did this every day at sea.
Relations
Friends and Allies
Kozuki Family
Oden cared deeply for his clan as he sacrificed himself to allow his son to escape from the Kaido pirates. He and his wife had two children, Momonosuke and Hiyori.
Red Sheaths
Oden took in 9 orphaned children who became powerful samurais who would be called the Nine Red Scabbards. Shimotsuki Yasuie asked Kinemon as a child why they obeyed Oden and he replied that he was the only one to whom they owed anything. Kawamatsu, a member of the red scabbards, proved his loyalty to Oden by protecting his daughter Kozuki Hiyori for 7 years. After she disappeared, he searched for her and swore that if anything happened to her he would kill himself. During Jack's attack on the Mink, two red scabbards, Nekomamushi and Inuarashi, are ready to sacrifice their lives for Oden and his family. Even after 20 years, Ashura Doji (although he used to be an enemy) decided to avenge Oden and fulfill his wish to reopen the borders of Wa and free Kawamatsu. After Oden died, Denjiro, because of the demon of anger, changed his appearance to Kyoshiro and hid for 20 years under this identity as a yakuza of the Flower Capital and working under Orochi.
41 years ago, Kinemon and Denjiro decided to follow Oden Kozuki after the mountain god incident. Kinemon declared that he would be willing to sacrifice his life for this man; they even argued about which one Oden would prefer. During his journey, he recruited and saved most of the red sheaths such as Raizo, Kanjuro, Kikunojo and Kawamatsu, and then defeated Ashura Doji who joined them. 39 years ago, Oden chose these six and Izo to become his samurai rather than others. And 33 years ago, he also accepted Nekomamushi, Inuarashi and Kawamatsu into the group, bringing their number to 10.
Izo
39 years ago, Oden took Izo on his way to defeat Ashura Doji and took him as a vassal along with Kikunojo, Kinemon, Denjiro, Raizo and Kanjuro. Izo stayed under Oden's command for at least 9 years, but as the others are now called the Nine Red Scabbards, we suppose that he left at some point in his life even if we don't know where, when or why.
Citizens of the Flower Capital
When Oden walked in the streets, the inhabitants were quick to hide all their possessions, women, girls, stores and their cattle. They hoped that he would die quickly while trying to go to sea, but they were all happy to learn that he became the daimyo of Kuri.
Minks Tribe
Oden has a very friendly, almost brotherly relationship with the Minks as do the other members of his family. However, when Momonosuke saw Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, he wondered if his father was the reason for their dispute. Because of the loyalty of their leaders, all the Minks on Zo respect Oden and the Kozuki family enough to sacrifice their lives for one of their servants.
Kozuki Sukiyaki
He did not consider himself as the heir of the shogun, according to Yasuie. He deserted to make way for Oden. Forty-one years ago, Sukiyaki was forced to exile him from the Flower Capital because of the mountain god incident. When Oden took over Kuri, his father, Sukiyaki, got in touch with him and appointed him as the Daimyo of Kuri.
Shimotsuki Yasuie
A long time ago in an unknown period of history, Oden often visited him, especially because he was exiled from the Flower Capital; the latter complains about all these visits, but he thinks that it is up to him to assume the function of the shogun because he is the heir of the Kozuki Family. Moreover, he does not want Oden to go to sea. He expressed his satisfaction with Oden after he became the Daimyo of Kuri. 39 years later, he did not hesitate to sacrifice himself to allow his vassals to avenge his death.
Inuarashi and Nekomamushi
The Dukes are very loyal to Oden. However, when Momonosuke saw Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, he wondered if Oden was the reason for their bitterness towards each other. Momonosuke said that his father would be saddened if he saw them fighting, a remark that convinced the two Minks to reconcile their rivalry, showing their respect towards his father. He was a member of this crew for a while. He was with them when they reached Laugh Tale. Oden discovered the real story in their company. He seems to get along well with the crew members, Roger even tells him that they are very lucky to have him and Baggy and Shanks offer to help him with his dream.

Whitebeard's crew
Before becoming a member of Roger's Crew, Oden was once a member of Whitebeard's Crew, as well as a division commander. According to Inuarashi and Sengoku, Whitebeard loved Oden very much. The introduction began in an unfriendly manner, when Oden confronted the captain and declared his intention to join his crew.
The other members were initially angry at Oden for attacking their captain without warning. Whitebeard was also against his joining; while recognizing Oden's strength, Whitebeard was cautious because of his wild nature and the feeling that Oden was not the kind of person who would serve anyone, knowing from experience the consequences this could bring. Whitebeard also did not want to cause an incident in Wa. After Whitebeard and his teammates witnessed Oden's unbreakable determination and immense kindness, they were deeply impressed and welcomed Oden officially, with members throwing Oden in the air, congratulating him. Eventually, Whitebeard's confidence in Oden became great enough that he made him a division commander of his crew while Oden became extremely close to the other members as they would rush to his aid when Oden's reckless excitement led him into danger.
Enemies
Kaido
It seems that he did not hold the Emperor in his heart since he refused to reveal to him certain truths that were hidden in the World. This refusal caused the death of the Daimyo at the hands of Kaido and Orochi.
Kaido confronted Oden and respected the strength of the samurai, although he found him to be the kind of man who spared his enemies as did Roger and Whitebeard. When Kaido noticed that he had beaten Oden because of a bad trick played by Kurozumi Higurashi, he apologized for it saying that he killed the old woman for interfering in this fight.
Kurozumi Orochi
Orochi was, 39 years ago, one of the servants of the Kozuki family. He killed Oden Kozuki and is hunting down members of the Kozuki clan.
Orochi first orchestrated a despicable plan to become shogun. When they met for the first time, Oden found him strange and Orochi was willing to lie down on a puddle in Oden's name. After Orochi stopped being Yasuie's servant, Orochi took advantage of Oden's generosity and repeatedly asked him for money.
Some time after Oden returned to Wa Land, Orochi disgraced him and sentenced him to death. After Oden's death, his legacy became taboo for Orochi, who became paranoid about Toki's prophecy that after twenty years, nine samurai would take revenge on him in Oden's name. Yasuie even used Oden's namesake to mock Orochi's cowardice.
Skills and competencies
As a Daimyo, Oden wields great power and has a strong influence on the region he rules. Nami deduced that he must have great wealth because of his position. He leads the Kozuki Family and has powerful allies such as the Mink Tribe.
Having been part of Whitebeard's crew as the Commander of the second fleet and having been in Roger's crew afterwards, Oden possesses an incredible physical strength being able to resist an attack of Whitebeard's Bisento, or to slice the God of the Mountain without any difficulties while others were unable to face him. Furthermore, when he attacked Roger during his first encounter, the Pirate Lord did not want his two best and most powerful men to face Oden, which is an understatement of his brute strength (although Roger was actually excited to face him).
Oden also had unwavering stamina and willpower, being able to fight through the night and day and defeat Ashura Doji and his men, or to hold a rope while being pulled by a boat for days, and finally to carry his entire staff on a plank while immersed in a pot of boiling water and hold on for more than an hour, a real feat! He was able to read the Poneglyphs and to hear, like Luffy, Momonosuke and Roger, the voice of everything.
Haki
Weaponry Haki
Oden is able to use the Armament Haki, named Ryuo in Wano, at a very high level, which is visible when he attacks Whitebeard by impregnating his swords with this Haki. It is noted that he is the only one who was able to tame Enma, who can drain the Armament Haki of his owner until exhaustion.
Haki of Kings
According to Ashura Doji, Oden has the Haki of Kings. He used it during the clash with Whitebeard.
Weapons
Oden was an adept of two-sword fighting, having developed his own Nitôryû. His first sword is the meito "Enma", the "sword that can cut Hell", known to be the only sword that wounded Kaido. His second sword is the Ame no Habakiri, the "sword that can cut the Heaven".
Oden was born in the Flower Capital 59 years ago before the main adventure, and he started acting up as a child. When he was less than a year old, he knocked his nurse out with a single punch. At 2 years old he caught two rabbits running away and at 4 years old he knocked down a bear by throwing a rock at it. At 6, he broke into the pleasure district and squandered the family fortune playing games of chance. At 8, he started drinking and bathing with Yakuza, which got him banned from their establishments the following year. In anger, he set fire to the nearest one and fought with them again, which got him arrested at 10 for assault and battery.
Incarcerated in a quarry, he revealed his talent for stone cutting due to his lineage and gained some prestige. He also questioned himself and decided to help his fellow man once he had served his sentence. Thus, at the age of 14, during a terrible drought, he diverted the course of a river to the capital to help its inhabitants... and caused serious flooding! Charged, he tried to go to sea for the first time by going up the canals but failed. At 15, he fell back into his old ways: he hid in a temple in the mountains and created a harem by kidnapping women from the capital at night. Their husbands, lovers and families helped by samurai came to challenge him, and this resulted in the "Harem War", which Hyogoro personally ended.

At the age of 18, he has already tried to go to sea 38 times and failed each time, barely surviving. Now he has an established reputation in the capital and everyone insults him. He continues to cause problems on a regular basis, such as eating on the cremated remains of a corpse in the middle of a crematorium. Excited, his father Sukiyaki ends up disowning him.
Oden accused himself instead of Kinemon and Denjiro to have stolen the baby of the mountain god. After defeating him with his two-sword technique, Sukiyaki exiled him from the Flowery Capital; he went to Shimotsuki Yasuie accompanied by Denjiro and Kinemon who followed him everywhere. He will meet for the first time Kurozumi Orochi.
He then sets out, accompanied by Kinemon and Denjiro, for the region of Kuri, with the intention to defeat Ashura Doji and to pacify the region after having made a small stroll in Wano. On the road, he writes a logbook.
The journey of the three samurais starts from Hakumai and crosses the country passing first by Ringo, where they meet two dancer brothers, Izo and Kikunojo, who join the group after having stolen their food. The journey continues by Kibi where a Yokai cutting the hair was raging. It was in fact Kanjuro, who earned his living by selling brushes that he made with hair. After trying to take Oden's hair, he started to follow them as well. In Udon, they met Raizo, a ninja who had left the O-Niwabans and who begged Oden to take him with him.
One day, Oden said he had to go to the bathroom and slipped away to Kuri. There, everyone was under Ashura Doji's orders and wanted him dead. So he had to face them all for a whole night and day. After that he declared his intention to become the Daimyo of Kuri.
So he made Kuri a place where people could live and became the daimyo of Kuri after his father cancelled the disavowal that had been made. As soon as he was appointed daimyo, he made the six who had traveled with him and Ashura Doji his samurai. This made him seven vassals.
During these 3 years, we can suppose that Oden continued his work of daimyo in Kuri while thinking that one day, he would leave by boat to discover the world.
Oden went to the Flower Capital because he had heard that his father was seriously ill, which was not the case. When he arrived in the capital, he made a strong impression because during three years, his 10 samurai had studied, learned good manners and bought clothes worthy of a shogun's vassal.
That same year, he set out for Itachi's port in Kuri where Whitebeard's crew was located. He attacked Whitebeard head on and then asked him to take him on his ship with him.
Two weeks later, Whitebeard's Pirates tried to leave Oden behind, but he caught up with them and grabbed onto a chain that he attached to the ship. Izo also grabbed onto Oden and was pulled along with him. After pulling Izo onto the ship, Whitebeard gave Oden a test. If he could hold the chain for three days, he would be allowed into the crew. Just as Oden had only ten minutes left, he heard a woman in trouble and let go of the chain. He drifted to an island and scared off some kidnappers who mistook him for a sea monster, saving the woman in the process. The next day he met the woman, whose name was Toki. They were then confronted by Karma and his crew, but Whitebeard came and defeated Karma. Whitebeard finally allowed Oden to join his crew. After boarding, Oden discovered that Inuarashi and Nekomamushi had hidden on the ship, waiting for Oden. Afterwards, Oden continued his adventures with the Whitebeard Pirates.
During his journey, he became a notorious outlaw with a bounty. He found the geography of the world and the world government overseeing it to be both amazing and incredible. After getting close to Toki and marrying her at some point, the couple became parents during their second year aboard the Moby Dick and named their son Kozuki Momonosuke. Later, as the crew grew, Whitebeard divided its members into five divisions and Oden was named commander of the second division. A little later, he and Toki would have a daughter whom they named Kozuki Hiyori.
Docking on an island, the Whitebeard Pirates unexpectedly encountered Roger's Pirates, leading Oden to rush to the crew to take their treasure. Engaging the crew in battle, he attracted the attention of Gol D. Roger but was knocked down by the pirate. Running towards his opponent, Oden was surprised at how well his captain and Roger were fighting. Thereafter, the two crews began fighting for the next three days until a ceasefire was reached on the fourth day. A few days later, Oden had a discussion with the two captains, during which he informed Roger that he could read the poneglyphs. Revealing his intention to reach the last island and become the Pirate King, Roger left Oden speechless. Roger begged Oden to join him for a year to get to the island, and Whitebeard honored Oden's choice to join Roger, leading him to part ways with the Whitebeard Pirates.
mbarking aboard the Oro Jackson with his wife and children, he discovered that Inuarashi and Nekomamushi had followed him aboard. The crew sailed to Mock Town and then reached Skypiea, where Oden read a poneglyph and engraved Roger's message on the golden bell of the Shandorian bell tower. After returning to the ocean, the crew sailed to Water Seven, during which Oden informed Roger that the Land of Wa had a Road Poneglyph. Docking on the island, Oden invited the still-young Franky to join the crew, but Franky declined the offer. From there, the crew sailed to Fishman's Island, where Oden read the two poneglyphs on the island and learned from Neptune that Poseidon was a mermaid. Oden later read another poneglyph after venturing to another island. When Toki fell ill, the pirates dropped her and her children off at Wano Kuni, alongside Nekomamushi and Inuarashi, during which Oden was able to see that his country had changed despite not looking at him. Afterwards, the crew learned the contents of Wa's poneglyph. Upon arriving in Zou, Oden sensed a different atmosphere of the island that did not sit well with him and Roger. Venturing into the land, the crew found the last Road Poneglyph, leading Oden to discover his family's ties to the Minks tribe after seeing his clan's seal on top of the stone. After leaving Zou, the crew discovered the location of the last island in the New World and sailed there. There, the crew found Joy Boy's treasure and laughed when they saw it, leading Roger to name the island Laugh Tale.
Oden bids farewell to Roger's crew, only to return to Wano. There, he discovered the changes that had taken place. He found his vassals as well as his wife Toki: the latter explained to him that Oden's vassals left to fight Orochi but that all this was only a ruse, because the Hundred Beasts crew was planning to eliminate Momonosuke and Hiyori. But to protect them, Toki took an arrow in the leg before the return of Oden's vassals; leaving a scar and causing Oden to become furious, and he ran to the castle, sweeping away all the guards that stood in his way. He finally arrived in front of Orochi, ready to cut him down.
However, Orochi was protected by the barrier fruit of Kurozumi Semimaru. After a deal between Kaido, Orochi and Oden, Oden had to dance naked every week in the Flower Capital in order to save 100 locked-up people and to avoid a war that would cause the death of many people in Wano.
From 25 years ago to 20 years ago
Oden comes back every week in front of the Orochi castle to dance naked whatever the weather. The rumor spreads even to Kuri and wherever he goes, he is called "stupid lord" by all the people he meets. After that, nobody came to talk to him except his family, his vassals, Hyogoro and Yasuie.
Twenty-four years ago, Oden, who had received a foreign newspaper from Orochi, learned of Roger's death, and said he envied him for having had a great life, while crying with a smile; and so the Golden Age of Piracy began.
For the next four years, Oden continued to dance naked in the Flowery Capital; he was not present at important events, including the fight between Moria and Kaido, where Kaido stole Shusui and Ryuma's dead body.
When Oden heard that 16 of Hyogoro's subordinates and his wife had been killed and that Hyogoro had been arrested, he and the 9 Red Scabbards set out at dusk to confront Kaido and his crew.
Oden and the 9 Red Scabbards came upon Emperor Kaido and his men by surprise. Oden was hoping to kill the emperor under the influence of alcohol (his achilles heel) in Onigashima. The emperor hints to Oden that there might be a traitor among them. Kaido boasts that he has taken everything from him. During the battle, Oden managed to inflict a wound on Kaido with his Enma sword in the shape of a cross.
This one is distracted by Kurozumi Higurashi, disguised as Momonosuke thanks to the Fruit-transvestite, and takes a blow of Kanabo by Kaido. This one and his servants are thus sent to prison, waiting for their execution in a boiling pot.
On the day of the execution, Oden made a deal with Kaido to allow those who survived the execution to go free and Kaido gave him one hour. Oden entered the pot, and before his vassals could join him, he lifted a board onto his shoulders and ordered them to stand over the board.
After an hour, Oden, still in the pot, had survived the scalding. Orochi changed his mind at the last minute, finally turning the sentence into a firing squad. Oden, determined, threw the 9 red scabbards out of the pot, with the final order to run to the castle.
A few moments later, Kaido explained to Oden that he had killed Kurozumi Higurashi for interfering in their fight. Before dying, he shouted "The more Oden is boiled..." before taking a fatal shot. His people finished his sentence by shouting "THE BETTER HE IS!", leaving Oden to die with a smile, his whole body plunged into the pot.
Before the execution, this one had passed his 2 swords, Enma and Ame no Habakiri, to Toki, intended for his children. He also gave her a letter, announcing the return of Joy Boy and a huge war in twenty years, but she tore it up, without finishing the reading but announcing to Oden's mind to look 20 years in the future.
Wano Kuni Arch
As the Red Scabbards wonder who helped them, Oden appears in the Treasure Room causing a general surprise. He claims to be happy to see them while commenting that they have suffered a crushing defeat.
