Orihime Inoue

Orihime Inoue (井上 織姫, Inoue Orihime) is a human living in Karakura. She is a student at Karakura High School, where she is in the class of Ichigo Kurosaki, and her best friend, Tatsuki Arisawa. Orihime often heals enemies, because she doesn't like to see someone suffering.

Appearance

Orihime has red hair, which she wears in bangs hidden behind her ears with hairpins. She doesn't take off her hairpins, except when sleeping, because she wears them in memory of her brother, and her hair is long in honor of the promise she made to Tatsuki Arisawa. Orihime has brown eyes in the color pictures of the manga, but purple tinged with gray in the anime. One of her most notable physical characteristics is the size of her chest, rather imposing for a teenager.

Seventeen months after Aizen's defeat, she no longer wears her hairpins, and her bangs frame her face without their support. Instead, she leaves her pins attached to the left collar of her uniform.

Creation and Design

Like Ichigo Kurosaki, Orihime has the most difficult face to draw according to Tite Kubo. Because of her importance in the manga, Kubo practiced drawing her a lot more to make sure that it becomes easier to do. When Tite Kubo was asked to make a cover with a female character for Christmas, he first thought to use Rukia Kuchiki. But finally he chose Orihime because he thinks she is more suitable for such a role.

Personality

Orihime is friendly, funny in a way, sensitive, caring, and kind. She appears as a naive and ignorant character. She has good grades in high school, is a member of the craft club, and likes to invent ridiculous games to play with Tatsuki (such as "foot-base", a combination of soccer and baseball). She is not very good at technology: one of the club members remarked that she was not smart enough to know how to use a cell phone, which is why she does not have one.

Orihime likes clothes with floral patterns and comedies. At home, she cooks and eats strange food, although she enjoys normal food. Apart from Rangiku Matsumoto and Tessai Tsukabishi, no one else seems to like her taste in food. Her favorite food is red bean paste, and she likes to put butter on her sweet potatoes. She loves butter and cheese. She tends to daydream with her mouth open, losing her train of thought. She also has a vivid imagination, and has a tendency to imagine unbelievable scenarios, such as imagining herself as a futuristic, highly destructive robot on a homework assignment, "How do you see yourself in the future?

Orihime has also shown that she is perceptive when it comes to her mental and emotional state, especially concerning Ichigo Kurosaki. She is in love with Ichigo and as the series goes on, her feelings become more and more obvious. Orihime is also very caring and open to others. She reveals her feelings to Rangiku Matsumoto and to Ichigo himself, although he was asleep at the time. Few people seem to like Orihime, saying that she only thinks about Ichigo (which is true since she always says "Kurosaki-kuuuun" when she worries about him, which unfortunately happens very often because of the substitute shinigami's tendency to jump into trouble), that she is silly or so weak that she becomes useless. In reality, it is true that she is weak (she even calls herself a "ball and chain") in terms of her attack power. This also shows that she has an inferiority complex towards her friends (all stronger than her) and makes her devalue her own qualities which, however, are not lacking. Like courage for example. She has demonstrated it several times such as when she followed Ichigo to the Soul Society or to Las Noche when she openly and more than once defied Ulquiorra Schiffer by declaring to keep the faith towards her friends.

Sora Inoue

Sora Inoue is the brother of Orihime Inoue, they were born 15 years apart. Their parents constantly abused them, pushing Sora to run away with Orihime as soon as he turned 18. One night, three years before the story begins, Sora bought hairpins for Orihime. The next morning, he died in the Kurosaki clinic after being injured in a car accident. Sora became a hollow: Acidwire (アシッドワイヤー, Ashiddowaiyā?). In the anime, he is dragged to Hueco Mundo to be turned into a hollow at the request of Grand Fisher.

Friends

Her friends are Ichigo Kurosaki, Tatsuki Arisawa, Yasutora Sado, Uryû Ishida, who are her classmates. She learns to appreciate Rukia Kuchiki, with whom she trains at the Soul Society, but of whom she feels jealous (she will confide her doubts to Rangiku Matsumoto).

During the passage in Hueco Mondo, when the fight between Ichigo and Ulquiorra ends, Ulquiorra reaches out to Orihime and asks her if she is afraid and then answers her very frankly that she is not, Ulquiorra, astonished by this reaction, reaches out to her (closer and closer to her), Orihime tries to take her hand, but in vain he ends up in dust.

History

Orihime lives alone in Karakura, and is supported by some of her family, as long as her grades are good, although she lives elsewhere. She used to live with her older brother Sora, who was 15 years older than her. They were raised by an alcoholic father and a prostitute mother who were always fighting and beating their children. It is not known if her parents are still alive.

When Sora was eighteen years old, he ran away from home with Orihime, who was then three years old, and raised her alone. For six years, they lived in harmony, although Orihime was mistreated at school because of her unusual hair color. One day, Sora gave Orihime a pair of hair clips, but she refused to wear them because she thought they were too childish. The same day, Sora was hit by a car and died at the Kurosaki clinic. It's since this moment that Orihime wears her barrettes. One year after Sora's death, Orihime met Tatsuki, who defended her against her bullies. That's how they became best friends.

Replacement Shinigami Bow

Orihime appeared for the first time walking with Tatsuki in a corridor of the high school, and discussing

about her strange eating habits, which her best friend seems not to share. Ichigo Kurosaki, slightly distracted, bumped into her, making her fall. After he apologized, Orihime acted strangely and left the scene in a hurry. Later, she was seen being watched by the ghost of her brother. The next day, Ichigo and Rukia Kuchiki met Orihime on her way home with food for dinner. When they met her, it was obvious that she had been in an accident, although she didn't remember if she had been hit by a car or not. Rukia did notice a strange bruise on Orihime's leg. It was later learned that this mark was caused by a Hollow, which was confirmed when Acidwire attacked Ichigo, the latter recognizing him as the spirit of Orihime's brother. Meanwhile, Orihime invited Tatsuki to dinner, revealing her crush on Ichigo when she was distracted by the memory of Ichigo proposing to go home together earlier in the day. After dinner, the two girls began to hear loud noises, before seeing Orihime's teddy bear rip and fall off her furniture. 

It was at this moment that Acidwire attacked and removed Orihime's soul from her body, leaving the Karma Chain intact, so that she would not die instantly. Horrified, Orihime witnessed the Hollow's attack on her best friend, who became confused and scared, even when Orihime touched her (due to the fact that she could neither see nor hear them). Ichigo quickly arrived at the scene to attack the Hollow, but hesitated to kill him. Acidwire took the opportunity to leave the building. He then revealed his true identity to Orihime, who was skeptical at first, because she didn't believe that her brother could do such terrible things as hurt or kill. She finally believes him when she sees his reaction to her bars, and feels concerned when he starts to fight with Ichigo again. Again, because of his identity, Ichigo hesitates to attack the Hollow and loses his sword. Acidwire then attacks Orihime who embraces him, despite his claim that she should die for him. In the anime, Acidwire attacks Ichigo, healthy but stunned, but Orihime interferes and receives the attack. Orihime then apologizes for causing all this trouble. At these words, her brother manages to crack his Hollow mask and regain control of his actions. Orihime wakes up in time to say goodbye to her brother before he leaves, smiling, for the Soul Society. Although Tatsuki and Orihime's memories were altered by Rukia, this event allowed them to increase their spiritual awareness. She later encountered a Hollow when Uryū attracted a large number of them to Karakura for his challenge against Ichigo. At that time, Orihime tried to make her friends run away from school. But in fact, she was trying to get them away from the Hollow who was stalking them, but her friends couldn't see it. The Hollow, Numb Chandelier, uses his power to control several students to force them to attack Orihime.

Thus, a shocked Chizuru Honshō cannot stop her left hand from grabbing Orihime's neck. The students begin to surround and grab Orihime, when Tatsuki arrives to defend her from the onslaught, though confused by the students' attitude. As she tries to push back the attackers, she gets checked just as one of the seeds thrown by the Hollow comes to interfere with her. Seeing Tatsuki crying, Orihime remembers the time when she was bullied because of her hair color; Tatsuki had intervened to help her. Orihime decided to help Tatsuki in return, in order to protect their friendship. This desire caused a change in Orihime: her powers were awakened when she shouted to the Hollow that she had made a mistake by attacking her friends. She then noticed many spirits flying around her and arguing with each other about whether or not she could discern them. These six spirits, who were called The Six Flowers of Shunshun, briefly explained to her their power, allowing her to defeat the Hollow, and to heal Tatsuki. Soon after, Kisuke Urahara took him and Yasutora Sado to the underground of his store to explain their new powers.

Arc de la Soul Society:

Just like her friend Ichigo she receives the message saying to go to the Urahara store, she appears in a hurry and excited about going to rescue Rukia. Ichigo, Ishida,Chad, Yoruichi and Orihime go to a kind of dimensional portal (Dangai), during their journey the rescue group meets a Kōtotsu. Orihime then useful his power and saves his friends. A little later he meets Jidanbu ( a guardian who prevents intruders from entering the seireitei). Ichigo fights against the guard and ends up defeating him after his defeat. Jidanbu decides to let them go through the gate, but behind this gate a strange guest appeared, the captain of the 3rd division Gin Ichimaru. Without following some events, the captain injured Jidanbo Ikkanzaka and pushed away both Ichigo and the guard. Once the door is closed, Orihime rushes to help jidanbu by healing him. The wandering souls stay some days in the Rukongai. Then they set out to see Kukaku Shiba (an acquaintance of Yoruichi and the best artificer in the Rukongai). They had to learn how to use the kido. After entering the Seireitei they separated and Orihime stayed with Ishida.

During their journey Orhime and Ishida met a lot of obstacles on the way. First of all they feel a huge spiritual Pressure from the captain of the 11th division Kenpachi Zaraki, they manage to avoid the captain, but during their escape they meet a soldier named Jirōbō Ikkanzaka from the 7th division. He is the older brother of the guard Jidanbu. Then Orihme attacks with Tsubaki the soldiers, but the lack of killing intent ends up hurting his weapon. Nevertheless, Uryu beats him and saves her.

Uryu and Orihime steal Shinigami clothes after beating no name. Orihime attracts the attention of a soldier named Toshimori Umesada of the 9th division, he attacks Orihime in trade, but Orihime Inoue is saved inextricably by Uryu. A strange individual dressed in a black kimono with a long white chin, watches them. Later, the individual who is none other than the captain of the 12th division Mayuri Kurotsuchi, attacks the 2, but Orihime protects both Uryu and Makizō Aramaki by using Santen kesshun (a barrier).

Later, Orihime tries to heal Tsubaki's wounds, but she can't. Makizō Aramaki notices in spite of his daze that the 2 young people are not Shinigami of the 11th division. Fortunately Orihime and Uryu are saved by the members of the 12th division, suddenly the members of the 12th division who rescued the 2 wandering souls suddenly explode. Uryu warns Orihime who has the time to use her barrier technique, to protect herself and Aramaki. The young girl moans about her inability to save Shinigami. Mayuri Kurotsuchi appears and expresses the interest he has towards her, this last one although tetanized by the fear refuses to run away. Uryu takes the thing in hand and threatens Aramaki to run away with her, this last one executes and runs away. Although Orihime seems to be agitated, Aeamaki assembles a blow to the nape of the neck which faints Orihime. During their escape, Aramaki is found by the vice captain of the 11th division Yachiru Kusajishi and taken to the 11th division's quarters. A few days later, while preparing for the execution of Rukia Kuchiki, Orihime and seen on zaraki's back, he heads to the prison where Uryu, Ganju Shiba and Chad are being held, zaraki breaks them out of prison, and takes them to the Hōgyoku hill. Captain Sajin Komamura and Kaname Tōsen and their vice captains seeing the arrival of zaraki and the errant souls stop them.

Yachiru takes Orihime, Ganju, Chad and Uryu to the hill to find Ichigo. While climbing the stairs leading to the Hōgyoku Orihime and her friends feel the spiritual pressure of Ichigo and all the other shinigami present. The latter although improved ended up fainting by the enormous spiritual pressure of the Captain aizen. A few days later, Orihime and Ichigo were looking for Rukia to ask her to follow them. During their search Ichigo met the different captains and shinigami who were fighting during this battle (kenpachi, ikkaku, renji, byakuya). Once orihime and ichigo find Rukia, ichigo asks Rukia to follow them, she refuses to go with them and ends up staying at the Soul Society. Orihime and the others say a long goodbye to Rukia, before going in the portal of the 2 worlds. Once arrived at the City of Karakura, Kisuke Urahara and his team welcome them on a flying carpet, the shinigami puts both knees and apologizes for not having revealed the real motivation of the rescue mission.

Back to school begins Orihime welcomes her expedition friends Ichigo Chad and Uryu. Chizuru Honshō grabs Orihime's chest before being pulled out by Tatsuki. During class Orihime notices Ichigo's badge flashing, warning of a Hololow. She is Chad simulates an urge to join Ichigo. Once the problem is solved, the 3 of them go back to the classroom. Ichigo full of suspicion wonders why Uryu didn't come to class, Orihime confesses her case before regretting her choice. The next day, Orihime greets Ichigo and the new student Shinji who arrived yesterday. Shinji surprised that she remembers her first name hugs her. This action causes a row in the class. Noticing the change of behavior of Ichigo, Orihime and Chad confront Shinji after hearing the conversation with Hiyori Sarugaki. Chad and Orihime manage to get Hyori's name, but before Hiyori reveals so much, Shinji gets her and leaves.

Powers

Orihime's spiritual powers manifest as six little fairies hidden in her hair clips. They are called Shun Shun Rikka (盾舜六花?,literally "The Six Flowers of the Hibiscus Shield", translated into French as "The Six Flowers of Shunshun"). To date, Orihime has shown us that she can invoke them in four different groups.

Overall, the effectiveness of Shun Shun Rikka is based solely on Orihime's determination and willingness to cause real damage without regard to feelings. Insight, manner, confidence or anything else that concerns her heart play a major role in her abilities. With a strong will and absolute persistence in her action, Shun Rikka is able to reject something, no matter how big or strong the aggression is. When Orihime lacks self-confidence and because it is her nature to protect and heal rather than kill, her abilities decline. However, since Ichigo Kurosaki lost his shinigami powers, she has undergone semi-rigid training to increase her power. As a result, she has shown significant changes such as being able to defend and attack in the absence of remorse or doubt, using her Shun Rikka to its full extent. Even Aizen notices his new sadistic power in contrast to his previously sensitive and generous personality. Her power goes against God's because she can remake what is gone which is why she will be taken away by Aizen. Although she seems frail, fragile in comparison with her other companions, Inoue knows thanks to her unsuspected will, how to conceive the things which surround her in another way.

Techniques :

Resistant shield of the 4 heavens (Shiten Kesshun)

Technique created during the 17 months after the battle with Aizen. Formed by the Shield of the 3 heavens and the unique sky in a pyramid form able to protect Orihime and to send back the attack in an explosion form to the attacker.

Shield of the 3 heavens (Santen Kesshun)

Orihime's defense technique made with Hinagiku, Baigon and Lily in the form of an orange triangle.

Shield of the 2 heavens (Sôten Kesshun)

The most used healing technique by Orihime. Done with Ayame and Shun'ō. It is a technique in the form of a barrier on the target. Anything negative such as wounds are cancelled out which makes it a divine ability.

Single Sky Shield

Orihime's attack technique. Done with Tsubaki who rushes towards the enemy like an arrow. Yammy will destroy him with one hand.
