Ran Mouri, a Teitan High School class 2-B student who is currently the captain of the Teitan High School Karate Club and the childhood friend and girlfriend of Shinichi Kudo. She is the female protagonist of the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan.

Background
Ran is a childhood friend of Shinichi Kudo, she is also the daughter of Kogoro Mouri and Eri Kisaki . She met Shinichi for the first time in kindergarten where he asked her to give him a Sakura badge made by her.
When Ran was in first grade, she followed Shinichi at night and they snuck into Teitan Elementary School at night to find out the truth behind a rumor of a monster wearing a hat. They met a mysterious individual in the school library who played a nasty prank on them before handing them a code inside a leather wallet.
With Agasa's help, Shinichi and Ran partially solved the case and Shinichi began to informally call Ran by his first name. That same year, Ran met Fusae Campbell who was waiting to see if Agasa would show up at the promised meeting place. Fusae gave Ran her umbrella and asked Ran to buy one of her designer handbags when she got older.
A year before Shinichi became Conan Edogawa, Ran joined Shinichi on a trip to visit her parents in New York (her own father being otherwise engaged by a community trip). She was there when Shinichi solved his first case and was recognized as a detective. They met Yukiko Kudo, his mother, and her actress friend, Sharon Vineyard.
Later that evening, she met Shuichi Akai who warned her that there was a serial killer on the loose in the area. Ran later met Vermouth disguised as a serial killer. Vermouth would have fallen to his death, but Ran grabbed his arm and Shinichi helped her to get Vermouth to safety. For this reason, Vermouth gave Ran and Shinichi the nicknames "Angel" and "Cool Guy", respectively. It was during this trip that Ran realized her true feelings for Shinichi, finally realizing that she was in love with him.
Appearance
Ran is a light-skinned girl with a medium height, she has a slim figure, but sports an athletic and curvy figure. She has blue-purple eyes and dark brown hair. Her hair is straight and down to her hips, tucked behind her ears with short wavy bangs on her forehead. What was originally a wave in her bangs evolved into a stylized triangular dot later in the series.
Personality
Ran is a kind and caring person, but she can be scary, aggressive and fierce and has a very overwhelming personality, able to intimidate people when they are angry. She cares for those she loves and is also patient, kind and caring.
Ran is someone who values life very much. Even if it is someone's life that threatens her own. This is proven during her trip to New York with Shinichi, despite a Vermouth disguised as a serial killer pulling a gun on her, she didn't hesitate to save her when Vermouth was about to die; Another example is when the detective agency was taken hostage by a man strapped with bombs, she closed the curtains to prevent the police snipers through the building from shooting the hostage taker.
Ran is also brave and resourceful when she wants to be and has saved Conan from trouble. She has remained bold, steady, confident and calm in many situations that would cause others to remain frozen in fear, such as being threatened by a gun or surrounded by flames. However, she has an irrational fear of the supernatural and is not a fan of anything related to the horror genre and she may not always be able to fight if she is too scared, such as when a bandaged man attacks her and she is frozen in fear and cannot defend herself.
Ran can be hot-blooded and often jumps to conclusions and acts on impulses when people she cares about are involved and expresses a fierce temper when she is suspicious of a person. One example is when she assumes that Shinichi was hiding in the house of a girl named Ryoko who claims to have kissed Shinichi. Another is when she believes her mother was having an affair after seeing her in a photo with an unknown man and would use karate on those she perceives to have wronged people.
Ran is independent for her age since her father Kogoro is often drunk and irresponsible. She manages many of the Mouri family's financial affairs and all the cooking and housework. She also makes sure that Kogoro doesn't slack off on his work, is on her best behavior during meetings with customers, and often greets and offers refreshments to potential customers. She also constantly tries to reunite her father and mother, but with little success, thanks to the mutual stubbornness of both parents.
Ran is very humble about her natural attractiveness, never using it to her advantage, even when men regularly try to flirt with her. At the same time, she may even be oblivious to men's interest in her, often to Sonoko's exasperation, who believes she is waiting for Shinichi to be hopeless. If she is made aware of this, Ran does not respond in kind because of her feelings for Shinichi.
Ran, however, can be emotional and Shinichi's absence has affected her a lot and she has suffered a lot of emotional pain. She avoids Shinichi choosing between her and her important case, which is impossible because Shinichi is that Conan could not return and she continues to wait for Shinichi to finish the case and trusts his promise that he will return despite his absence troubling Ran.

Ran's most notable ability is her great prowess in martial arts; she is a black belt in karate as well as team captain and ace of her high school team with enough talent to win regional tournaments in her age group.

Ran first came home from school with Shinichi where she was annoyed by Shinichi regularly telling about his latest success and telling about his idol Sherlock Holmes even accusing him that his father doesn't get any job as a private detective because of him. Although Shinichi pointed out that it wasn't his fault that his father didn't have a job because he was ugly while Ran scared Shinichi with his karate.
Ran then reminds Shinichi of a promise he made to her if Ran won the regional karate championship, Shinichi would go with her to the theme park, Tropical Land.
She later witnesses a murder that occurred during a roller coaster ride she and Shinichi were on.

Conan, Ran and Kogoro are invited to England by a wealthy elite British woman, Diana Kingstone, after Kogoro finds her cat under the table at Café Poirot.
