Rock Lee is a Konoha shinobi from Lee clan and member of Team Guy. Unlike most shinobi, he did not have the skills to use ninjutsu or genjutsu. However, he overcame these shortcomings by undergoing special training from Guy Maito that would make him a taijutsu master while still being a genin.

History
During his time at the Academy, Lee was found to have no talent for ninjutsu and genjutsu. When he was mocked by his peers because of this, Lee persevered, focusing on taijutsu. After successfully graduating, he was added to Team Guy along with Neji Hyūga and Tenten . At the first team meeting, Lee vowed to become a powerful ninja without using ninjutsu or genjutsu. Neji laughed at him, but their sensei, Might Guy, took a special interest in Lee. He encouraged Lee to continue and, in time, began teaching him powerful forms of taijutsu.
Personality
Under Guy's guidance, Lee has acquired a number of his sensei's personality traits: he is energetic, optimistic, and hot-blooded, and shows the quintessential "nice guy." He believes that you can't hate food and shows strong dedication to his promises; when that promise is broken, he assigns himself arduous training to prevent it from happening again. Lee speaks respectfully to others, never using contractions or swear words and always addressing people with the appropriate honorific titles (with the exception of his teammates, as Lee believes they are close enough to be spoken to informally). He also carries a small book and pencil to remember the advice Guy gives him over time.
Despite his passionate nature, Lee also demonstrated strong instincts, staying focused on the task at hand and rarely losing his cool. He has a strong sense of honor and respect for his opponents, refusing to hold grudges against those who defeated him and returning favors to those who helped him. This was shown by his friendship with Gaara, forgiving him for crushing his arm and leg - injuries that nearly ended his shinobi career. Lee believes that others should show the same respect to their opponents and is disgusted whenever someone is unnecessarily cruel to their enemies.
One of Lee's recurring themes throughout the series is his drive to succeed, believing that with enough hard work and perseverance, he can surpass a natural genius. He can be prone to depression when faced with setbacks. Neji, Lee's most talented teammate and rival, found Lee's efforts futile, believing that a "failure" could never overcome a "genius." As such, Lee became determined to defeat Neji in order to prove him wrong, but was defeated at every turn. When Neji himself was defeated by Naruto Uzumaki, another so-called "failure", he rejects his belief in fate and now has great respect for Lee, believing that he will surpass the gifted with enough work.
During the first part, Lee revealed that he had feelings for Sakura Haruno . Although she didn't return his feelings in return and even considered him weird, she later became more grateful and friendly towards him after he helped her save her from Otogakure's genin during the Chūnin exams. After the exams, Lee's interest in Sakura was largely ignored in the manga, though it is occasionally referenced in the anime; while having a match with Lee, Naruto turned into Sakura, distracting Lee long enough for Naruto to attack her. However, Lee's infinite Tsukuyomithe dream was to win Sakura's affection, which implied that he still had feelings of love for her. These feelings apparently changed in adulthood, as Lee eventually married someone else and had a son named Metal Lee .
Apparence
Lee has shiny black hair, round eyes with prominent lower lashes, and very thick eyebrows; as a result, Naruto calls him "Centipede Brows" (ゲジマユ, Gejimayu , English television: Bushy Brows). As a child, his hair was quite long and tied in a braid, although he cut it short by the time he joined Team Guy, letting it curve upward. Lee originally wore a white short-sleeved kimono with a martial arts belt and dark pants, giving him a more traditional Chinese appearance. He also wore a forehead protector and shinobi sandals.
Lee later changed his appearance considerably to emulate his idol and sensei, Guy: his hair was now bowl cut; he wore a green jumpsuit, orange leggings and a red forehead protector worn as a belt. He has bandages around his forearms down to his fingers, covering a series of stitches on his hands that were caused by his rigorous training. Like Guy, Lee's appearance remains largely the same over the years, though he adds a standard Konoha bulletproof vest as a chūnin in Part II, and his redesigned version in The Last: Naruto the Movie . As an adult, Lee has become visibly muscular with more defined cheekbones and now wears a sleeveless jumpsuit with an orange neckband.
Capabilities
During his time at the Academy, Lee was looked down upon for his inability to use ninjutsu or genjutsu. However, with Might Guy's guidance and support, Lee transformed into a superb ninja who relies exclusively on taijutsu. Although originally very limited even in this skill, Lee proved to be a late bloomer by Part I: his vastly improved skill was evident when he defeated Sasuke Uchiha (a natural prodigy), posed a challenge against Gaara in the Chūnin exams, and held his own against Kimimaro . As a Chûnin , he was able to defeat the legendary taijutsu master Chen , as well as destroy a meteorite by himself . By the time he was an adult, he had reached the rank of jōnin .
Physical prowess
At the age of 13, Lee's arduous training conditioned him to become essentially a taijutsu master, showing great mastery of the Strong Fist fighting style. His strength could dig a huge tree root out of the ground, and although Sasuke could predict his movements with the Sharingan in their first fight, his body was not fast enough to react to it. According to his training, Lee carried heavy ankle weights even in fights and became much faster when they were removed, allowing him to become the first person to get around Gaara's Sand Shield and hit him. As a chūnin, Lee learned to perform the Leaf Great Gale (木ノ葉大烈風, Konoha Daireppū ). In the anime, due to Lee's intensive training, he showed that he was able to run and fight even when he was unconscious or asleep, using nothing but pure muscle memory . As an adult, Lee is considered one of the best taijutsu users in Konoha.
Drunken fist
Lee's very low tolerance for alcohol gives him a natural predisposition for the Drunken Fist style. When he consumes as little as a drop of alcohol, Lee becomes an unpredictable and almost unstoppable force of destruction and chaos, attacking anyone, friend or foe. This gives him considerably greater speed and dexterity, allowing him to strike and dodge effectively from different positions. Kimimaro, one of Orochimaru's most powerful subordinates, was eventually overwhelmed by Lee's attack patterns with Drunken Fist, noting that they were too unpredictable to follow.
Eight doors
Through Guy's teachings, Lee learned to open five of the eight gates at the age of 12, the sixth gate at 17, and (in the anime) the seventh gate sometime after the Fourth Shinobi World War. As an adult, Lee has mastered the last gate. Using the 6th door, Lee is able to move so fast that he can save Guy from Madara's truth-seeking bullet, which moved fast enough that Obito could not use Kamui to escape them. He is recognized as a genius for this feat by Kakashi Hatake, who notes that it is very difficult for the most talented ninja to open even one door. With each door he opens, Lee's strength, speed, chakra levels and body functions increase dramatically. However, the longer he holds one of these doors, the more strain and potential physical damage he puts on himself by pushing his performance beyond his natural limits. For this reason, Lee is only allowed to open one of the doors in the most difficult situations or to protect something very dear to him. Through continuous training, Lee has become able to instantly open some of the eight doors and shows a faster recovery rate after using them, but he still succumbs to the pain or exhaustion they cause.
Lee has learned a number of taijutsu techniques that he can perform once certain doors have been opened; with the first door, he can use the Front Lotus; with the third door, he can use the more destructive Reverse Lotus; with the sixth door, he can perform the Crane Wing formation in collaboration with members of the Suicide Corps, which has proven powerful enough to destroy half of a giant meteorite.
Other skills
Although Lee has very little ninjutsu skills, he can still perform basic chakra control skills, such as using chakra to walk on vertical surfaces, as well as on water. In the anime, he also developed enough skills to dispel genjutsu.
Part I
Examinations of Chûnin
Having chosen not to participate the previous year, Team Guy participated in the Chūnin exams with Team Nine . They initially tried to avoid attention by acting weak, but Lee accidentally let his true strength slip by interfering with a fight between Sasuke and Kotetsu Hagane . He also fell in love with Sakura. Soon after, he confronted Sasuke, challenging him to a fight to see how he fared against the Sharingan, but not before knocking out Naruto, who tried to fight Lee himself. After fighting Sasuke, Lee easily got the upper hand, but Guy interrupted Lee and Sasuke's fight as Lee tried to use the Front Lotus, and Lee was forced to do laps around the training ground before he could move on to the first phase of the exams. With Tenten's help, he got the answers for the written portion and moved on to the second round.
After spending their first few days in the forest of death gathering supplies, Team Guy split up looking for other teams. Lee came across Sakura being attacked by Team Dosu and went to her aid. He used his Front Lotus on Dosu Kinuta, but he survived the attack because of Zaku Abumi using his airwaves scouring the ground, and Lee was unable to defend himself against a counterattack from Dosu. Neji and Tenten soon arrived to help, but didn't have to because Sasuke woke up and took care of Team Dosu. Once Lee recovered and they got the specific scroll, they moved on to the preliminaries.
In the preliminaries, Lee faced Gaara. When his standard attacks proved unable to get around Gaara's defenses, he removed his ankle weights to increase his speed and managed to land a few blows on Gaara. Next, he attempted the Forward Lotus, but Gaara was able to escape at the last minute, revealing a sand clone instead. With his options exhausted if he wanted to win and prove himself, Guy allowed him to use the Reverse Lotus . Gaara barely survived by turning his gourd into sand to cushion it, and the techniques took a toll on Lee's body. Gaara aggravated Lee's injury by crushing his left arm and leg. Although Guy intervened to prevent Gaara from killing him, Lee got up to continue the battle, despite being completely unconscious.
Because of his injuries, doctors predicted that even if Lee recovered, his injuries would prevent him from being able to be a shinobi again. Nevertheless, he tried to train while he was in the hospital, which only made his condition worse. When he was sleeping, Gaara came to his room and tried to kill him, but he was stopped by Naruto and Shikamaru Nara and later by Guy. To try to cheer Lee up, Guy took him to see the final round matches, but they were surprised when they arrived to find that Neji had been defeated by Naruto. Lee silently congratulated Naruto, then watched Gaara's fight with Sasuke, and marveled at how quickly he had learned to mimic Lee's speed. Before the fight could end, however, the Konoha Crush began, and Lee passed out.
Mission of recovery of Sasuke
Over the next few weeks, Guy tried a number of his own remedies to cure Lee, though none of his efforts worked. It wasn't until the news of Tsunade becoming Hokage reached them that they found hope. But when she examined Lee, she informed him of the dire situation: his broken bones and torn muscles had healed, but bone fragments had lodged in his spine, and removing them would involve a major operation that only she was capable of. When Tsunade offered him an operation that had a fifty percent chance of returning him to his former state, or dying in the process, Lee was reluctant to accept the surgery. Although Lee feared dying in the operation, thanks to Guy's influence, he agreed to the operation. After hearing Naruto, Chōji Akimichi, Kiba Inuzuka, and Shikamaru talking about the mission to bring Sasuke back to Konoha, Lee suggested that Neji accompany them. Lee was disappointed that he could not accompany them, still needing to undergo his surgery which was scheduled later that day (in the anime, Lee was recovering after undergoing his surgery the day before). In the end, Lee successfully survived the operation.
Once Lee recovered enough to move, he left the hospital to follow and assist them. He caught up with Naruto, who was in the middle of a battle with Kimimaro, and told him to go after Sasuke while he dealt with Kimimaro. At first, it seemed that Kimimaro was outperforming him, but after Lee drank some sake that he had mistaken for his medicine, he began to outperform Kimimaro. Although Lee's anticipated moves were unpredictable for Kimimaro, he revealed his Kekkei Genkai , Shikotsumyaku , which combined with Lee's sobering up, easily took over the fight. Before his attack hit Lee, Gaara arrived just in time to save him. Even though Lee insisted on fighting by his side, he knew that he was only hindering Gaara.
For the rest of the battle, Lee watches and is amazed by Gaara's new abilities. Even though Gaara's new techniques completely buried Kimimaro, Kimimaro retaliated by turning the battlefield into a forest of bones, which Lee and Gaara escaped by clinging to a pair of small clouds made of sand . Kimimaro then emerged from one of the bones, preparing to kill the two at close range. They were saved, however, as Kimimaro eventually succumbed to his illness and died. After the battle, Lee and Gaara reflect on Kimimaro's purpose, then the two return to Konoha.
Moving mission of the Kurosuki family
In the anime, Lee revealed that he once ran a marathon with Guy near the village of Katabami Kinzan shortly after being assigned to his team, and when he collapsed from exhaustion near the Curry of Life store, the owner, Sanshō, and his son Karashi fed him curry and saved his life. Lee's dedication made Karashi enthusiastic and he later left. A year later, when he came to the village with his teammates and Naruto to defeat the Kurosuki family, he discovered that Karashi had joined him and was upset that Karashi had sought strength in this way. He allowed Karashi to seek redemption, but Karashi took advantage of this opportunity to lure Lee's group into a trap after their first battle with Raiga . The trap failed due to Naruto's use of shadow clones, and while the villagers were ready to take revenge on Karashi, Lee intervened, promising to take responsibility for Karashi's actions. Karashi took the opportunity to take Ranmaru to revive Raiga. Lee went to fight Raiga with Naruto and Neji, and was knocked out but brought back to consciousness with the Curry of Life. The curry, however, accidentally contained wine, and Lee was intoxicated and performed the Drunken Fist. He fought Raiga drunk, but was defeated, and Naruto finished Raiga. Later, when the group returned to the Curry of Life store, they discovered that Karashi had made a new curry that looked so bad that even Naruto wouldn't eat it. Lee, however, couldn't wait to try it, so the rest of the group literally had to take him back to Konoha while he cried over the curry.
Main mission of the students of the Academy
In the anime, Lee was tasked with leading a team of three Academy students in a survival exercise. After fending off a few "bandits," one of Lee's charges referred to Lee as "Lee-sensei" out of fear, and, delighted, Lee went off into one of his sunset statements while his students tried to tell him he was going the wrong way.
The appearance of strange visitors
In the anime, Guy and Lee left the village on a mission and two spies tried to imitate them. Tsunade immediately saw through their disguise and gave them various difficult, disgusting or humiliating missions to keep them busy and prevent them from learning anything. Lee and Guy spot the imposters leaving the village. The imposters attacked but were flown back to Konoha.
Star Guard Mission
In the anime, Lee accompanied Neji, Naruto and Tenten on the mission to Hoshigakure, playing a lesser role than in the previous arcs. He tried to follow two of Akahoshi's men by hiding under a barrel, as Tenten suggested, but was discovered almost instantly. While trying to infiltrate Akahoshi's mansion, he pretended to use a jutsu known as the "Wall Removal Technique", but in reality it involved him moving at high speed to open a door on the other side. He was injured in the final battle with Akahoshi, leaving Naruto to fight him alone.
Viva Dojo Challenge! Youth is a matter of passion!
In the anime, Lee, seeing that he had little time to train with others due to the many missions he had to complete, sought a new way to train. After seeing a man challenge a dōjō, ready to take the sign if he won, and ready to join him if he lost; Lee founded his own dōjō (which he named the "Gutz Dōjō"), believing that a dōjō would attract many powerful opponents. When Naruto came across the dōjō, Lee asked him to fight, but Naruto had to leave hurriedly, late to report to Tsunade.
Guy, after hearing about Naruto's dōjō, decided to disguise himself to fight Lee. However, he was given an assignment at the last second and (unbeknownst to Guy) an impostor replaced him. Lee fought the impostor and easily defeated him, but Naruto believed that the impostor was Guy and didn't fight at full strength to avoid revealing himself, so Naruto defies and fights Lee. Meanwhile, the impostor turned into Lee, but met the real Guy while trying to leave and was easily defeated by him.
Third arc of the great beast
In the anime, Lee's condition worsened and Tsunade was worried that he would get injured again. She removed him from the missions, but allowed him to continue training after convincing him to do so. At that time, Guy arrived with a new student, who easily defeated Lee and injured his ankle. While Lee was recovering, Guy took the new student with him on a mission, making Lee believe that he had abandoned him. It was then revealed that the new student was an imposter and was planning to get back at Guy. Lee headed to Guy's location, but was trapped in a castle made of battle posts. He and Lee were brought into the fight considering themselves a training dummy, but they saw through the technique, recognizing each other's fighting style,
Konoha plans a reconquest mission
Main article: Konoha Plans Recapture MissionIn the anime, Lee and the rest of Konoha 11 went down together to stop Gennō from bombing Konoha. Although he had few special abilities, he made notable contributions to the investigation. While he initially encouraged the Academy students to continue practicing throwing kunai, once he realized that hitting the bull's-eye would cause a chain reaction that would detonate explosives around Konoha, he caught a kunai in the air just before it hit the target, despite its distance. from that. Lee defeated Gennō with his taijutsu in the final confrontation.
Gantetsu escort mission
In the anime, Naruto accompanied Sakura and Lee to escort Gantetsu . When the ship was cut in half by a wire, Lee ended up with Sakura and found the orphans that Gantetsu had taken care of. During the raid on the hideout, he fought the Shinobazu members outside.
Sunagakure Support Mission
In the anime, Lee and Naruto helped Gaara to fight and defeat Seimei , an opponent capable of absorbing the chakra of his enemies with his armor. After the mission, he fought with Tenten, who was upset that he was the only member of Konoha 11 not to participate in the mission despite a mission at the time, and noted that in order to be able to face Naruto when he returns, they too must become stronger.
Interlude
In the footsteps of Naruto: the paths of friends
In the anime, after about two years, the Chūnin exams are held, co-sponsored by Konoha and Suna. While waiting to register, Team Guy spots Naruto, well also their surprise. However, Neji reveals that it was only Konohamaru in disguise , who explained that he did not want Naruto to miss this opportunity because he was away. With some comforting words from Lee and Neji, Konohamaru and his friends take leave.
In the first stage, all the teams were randomly assigned to different rooms to take the written test. Lee was placed in room 2 with Ino Yamanaka and Shino Aburame. On a monitor, Shikamaru, as the proctor, explained that everyone only needed to answer one question, but that their team's combined score must equal exactly 100 points to pass. Thanks to Neji, all of the struggling teams were able to determine which question to answer based on the specific amount of vibration sent through the wall. To everyone's surprise, Shikamaru revealed a bonus question that asked that if a situation required you to sacrifice a teammate to be a decoy, which one would you choose. This was a trick question, however, that required no answer, as it was a test of loyalty, something Lee and his team understood, allowing them to pass the first stage. However, due to too many participants, a race to Suna was held, where only the first 30 teams to reach their destination would qualify for the second stage.
In the end, his team was among the first 30 teams to succeed. During dinner, the genin tried to stop Burami from dripping sweat on the food, and although they managed to do so, the food was still ruined as a result of Neji's Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven accidentally spilling the food. This caused an all-out fight between the genin in the room. Lee tried not to fight, but when he tried to hit Shira, his attack proved futile. Finally, everyone lost their desire to fight when Fū arrived with her optimistic ways. Later, Lee approached Shira, noting from their previous meeting that he had also endured a lot of adversity, to which Shira said that true determination would eventually succeed.
The next day, the second exam began. Like the last exam in Konoha, the teams would each receive a scroll from either Heaven or Earth and had to obtain the other scroll. They would then have to bring the set to the main building in the center of Demon Desert, having three days to do so. As they started to walk around aimlessly, Lee made a pattern and started to mark the rocks with kunai, concluding that they were wondering in circles. After dispelling the genjutsu, they found Team Goji and proceeded to attack them, only for Team Shira to interfere and help their comrade Suna-nin. Unbeknownst to Team Guy, they get caught in another genjutsu by Sen. After Sen defeats the genjutsu, Team Guy discovers that they are caught in quicksand, which leads them into a cascading sandpit. Lee manages to save himself and his teammates from their doom after opening the second of the eight doors. After escaping the pit, they find Team Shira in trouble, as they were attacked by the treacherous Suna-nin. Feeling compelled to help, Team Gai decides to help Team Shira, after which Neji asks why they were attacked. It was explained that Team Goji simply had no respect for Shira as a ninja, with Lee deducing that like him, Shira had no skill in genjutsu and ninjutsu, making him look foolish among his peers.
Lee, in a pit of rage at the Goji team's disrespect, rushes to convince them to apologize to Shira. When that fails, the attack Suna-nin, trapping Lee in a sandstorm that casts illusions of attacking characters to distract him from the real threat as they hit him with water needles. Just as he is about to be finished, Neji and Tenten arrive to save him. Before the battle continues, Shira begs the Konoha-nin not to leave them, insisting that their disgust with him is his fault for not training hard enough. Lee believed the exact opposite, however, but in the end he and his team agreed. Shira offered her scroll to one of the Suna-nin teams when they had technically defeated her team earlier. As Shira's words finally reached the evil Suna-nin, they refused and instead gave Shira's team and Lee's team their own respective scrolls as they lost that battle. After the Suna-nin left, determined like Shira to prove themselves by finding more scrolls, Shira agreed to Lee's request to have a one-on-one battle.
Though seemingly equal in raw speed and skill, Neji noted that Shira had a slight advantage with her stronger build and, by extension, greater raw strength. As Lee attempted to use all eight doors, he was unable to do so because Shira had already anticipated him and hit her pressure points ahead of time. As Lee began to change tactics from Might Guy's teachings, manipulating the way Shira would move, he began to push Shira away. After recognizing the other's determination, Shira again hit Lee's pressure points to remove the block, wanting to face Lee at his best. As Lee entered the eight gates, Shira used the Seven Heavens Breathing Method, which proved to be on par with the eight gates. As the intensity increased between the two, Shira's previous injuries began to reopen, prompting Lee to call off the fight. As Shira was healed by Yome, he explained that after Chūnin's exams are over, he will enlist in a special force on the outskirts of Suna so that he can be closer to his parents. Lee wished Shira good luck and gave her one of his suits, acknowledging their new friendship.
On the third day of the exam, Team Guy came across a team of Ame kunoichi and confronted them. After a short skirmish, the enemy team decided to retreat because Team Guy was not the target they were looking for. Despite this, Lee's team pursued the Ame-nin into old ruins. During their continued battle, the ground collapsed, engulfing Tenten and Ajisai and separating them from their respective teams. Although Lee and Neji wanted to work together to save their teammate, the two Ame-nin refused them and left. Lee suggested that they make their way through the rubble, only for Neji to reject the idea for fear of causing more damage than desired.> When Lee and Neji found the two Ame-nin, they helped them in their fight against another Konohacar team they needed their help to find Tenten. This caused the other Konoha team to retreat because they were outnumbered. After the two teams agreed to work together, they fought a colony of large ants, but it was Tenten who defeated them. Now reunited, the two teams peacefully part ways.
Later, Team Guy is caught in a huge sandstorm. Unable to move forward, Neji pushed the sand back long enough for Tenten to summon a protective dome for them to wait out the storm. After the storm cleared and they resumed their efforts to pass the exam, they spotted Matsuri , who begged them to help save Gaara. Team Guy was soon approached by Fū's teammates, who agreed to join forces in hopes of saving Fū and Gaara. While Lee and Matsuri join Fū's teammates to distract Hōichi, Neji and Tenten attempt to save the jinchūriki. In the end, Neji was able to free Gaara and Fū with his soft fist, which came at Hōichi's expense as the chains quickly turned on him, still seeking the chakra of the tailed beast and eventually bound him.
Despite the lack of a matching set of scrolls, Lee's team decided to finish the exams and head to the main building. There, it was learned that Chūnin's exams had ended early due to the controversy that had occurred during the second exam. Instead, it was decided by Gaara that a report on each participant would be sent to their respective village chief to decide if they would be promoted. Upon returning to the village, Tsunade promoted Lee and Tenten to chūnin, while Neji was promoted to jonin.
PART TWO
Kazekage rescue mission
After the Kakashi team was sent on a mission to rescue Gaara from the Akatsuki, Tsunade began to worry that they were in trouble, so she sent the Guy team as backup. On their way to a rendezvous point, they met Pakkun, who redirected them to the destination of the Kakashi team. Soon after, they were attacked by Kisame Hoshigaki . While the battle was going on Lee was able to disarm Kisame shortly, but he was soon captured alongside Neji and Tenten in a water prison by Kisame's water clones. After a while, Neji was able to free Lee and himself, allowing Lee to save Tenten before she choked to death. Then they watched Guy finish off Kisame. After Kisame was defeated, they discovered that it wasn't really him they were fighting, only unsosie . Realizing that they were stuck, Pakkun took them to Team 7.
When they got together with Team Kakashi, Team Guy was tasked with taking down the barrier blocking the entrance to the Akatsuki's lair. Neji used his Byakugan to find the seals holding the barrier in place and indicated their location to the rest of the team. Once they found the seals, they removed them simultaneously, successfully removing the barrier but in the process were immediately ambushed by copies of themselves. Soon after, Lee and his clone began to fight, matching attack for attack. After getting even with his clone, Lee contacted the rest of the team who were in the same situation and offered a solution: become stronger than they had been when the copies were created. With that, Lee used a new technique and defeated his clone.
With their battles won, Team Guy reunited and went to meet Team 7 again. On their way, Neji spotted Deidara with his Byakugan and the team manages to sneak up behind him in time to block his escape. After fighting Team Guy, Deidara realized that he was outmatched and tried to retreat. While on Deidara's tail team Guy cornered him, causing him to make a clone explode, resulting in almost killing both teams were this not for Kakashi's intervention. Once Gaara was resurrected and their mission completed, both teams escorted him back to Sunagakure and then paid their respects at Chiyo's grave. Then, both teams left for Konoha. On the way, Guy began carrying Kakashi who had been unable to use the Mangekō Sharingan too much. Considering this a form of training, Lee told Neji to get on his back so they could return to Konoha, but was forcibly rejected.
Reconnaissance mission of the Tenchi bridge
Lee and the rest of Team Guy were only seen at the very beginning of this arc in the anime, as they were returning from Suna. Lee, thinking that he had come in second place in his and Guy's race from Sunagakure to Konoha, was shocked when Guy informed him that since he was also carrying Kakashi on his back, Lee had only come in third. Lee was seen carrying everyone's bags as they returned to Konoha. After escorting Kakashi to the hospital, Team Guy went to rest.
Twelve Ninja Guardians
In the anime, Lee and his peers were invited to Asuma Sarutobi to join him for a lunch with a guest from outside the village. When the village was invaded by Furido's 4-man team, the enemies resurrected members of the Kohaku clan. Lee fought alongside other Konoha-nin to keep the zombie-nin at bay. Later, when Sora, who turned out to be a pseudo-Jinchūriki, transformed, he and the others went to stop him. However, Sora proved too much and Naruto faced him and finally stopped him. In the end, the invaders were all defeated.
Three-tailed appearance
In the anime, Lee was placed in the team two with Yamato as the leader and the help of Tenten, Kiba and Akamaru. Once his team has settled, they spot an enemy. Lee rushes to attack, connecting with a kick, but the enemy turns out to be a smoke clone . The real Kigiri with his allies is revealed, and soon Lee finds himself trapped in Kigiri's smoke screen. After remembering a discussion about using other senses with Guy, he found his way out and attacked Kihō with Front Lotus . His team finally defeated the enemy, the opposing shinobi.
Later, he fought alongside Tenten against Guren and Rinji on the lake while Team 3 tried to seal the Sanbi. After the beast went crazy, he and the others retreated, carrying an unconscious Ino to the shore. After recovering, they all agreed to try the task again. Afterwards, Lee and his team ended up fighting the enemies from their previous encounter. Unfortunately, his team lost due to the activation of the enemies' cursed seals, making them stronger than before. Later, to his and the others' surprise, the enemies merged, becoming an even greater threat. However, Sanbi, while on a rampage, crushed the merged enemies. Having failed to seal the beast a second time, they returned to Konoha.
The assault on the Bread
During Pain's assault on Konoha, Team Guy was away on a mission. Upon returning to the village, they noticed a large number of birds flying from the direction of the village and rushed to see what the problem was. The team then came across a defeated Gamabunta, who informed them that the village was being destroyed. When they arrived to see the ruined village, they also spotted a severely injured Hinata Hyūga and got medical attention after Tenten noted that her injuries were not life-threatening. Katsuyu Later, informed them that Naruto was fighting with the last member of Pain, much to everyone's shock. Guy insisted that he and his team provide support, but Katsuyu mentions that Naruto doesn't want anyone else to get involved. Later, Lee, along with the other villagers, celebrated Naruto's victory over Pain's defeat.During Pain's assault on Konoha, Team Guy was away on a mission. Five Kage Summit
When the news reaches Konoha about Sasuke Uchiha's crimes against other villages, Lee and the rest of the Konoha 11 decide that they should eliminate Sasuke themselves before he can involve Konoha in a war. In order for Sakura to inform Naruto of their decision, Lee, Kiba and Sai escort him to the Iron Country. When they locate him, Sakura tells Naruto that she loves him, surprising Lee. This doesn't convince him to give up his own search for Sasuke, so they leave without another word, despite Lee's protest. Sakura then asks her escorts to help her find Sasuke. When they approach his location while Lee, along with Kiba, try to protest that telling Naruto the truth would have been better, Sakura tries to knock them out so she can confront Sasuke alone. Sai stops her, so Sakura convinces Lee and Kiba that he is a traitor. As they try to hold him back, she manages to knock them out.
After Sakura and the rest of Team 7 meet Sasuke, they pick up Lee and the others and return to Konoha. Lee is later seen with the rest of Konoha 11 hearing Naruto's decision to take responsibility for Sasuke. Although they protested against this action, Naruto firmly states that he would be the one to take care of Sasuke. Before leaving, he promises to tell them everything when the time comes.
Chikara
In the anime, Lee and his teammates were sent to support the Kakashi team who were investigating what was happening at The Hole located in Tonika village. During this mission, Lee and Guy confronted Naruto's berserk clone and, after opening the fifth door alongside his mentor, were able to fend off the creature before it could take on a pseudo-Kyubi form.
Shinobi World War IV: Confrontation
During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Lee is assigned to the third division alongside Sakura and Guy. He is seen worrying about his sensei's condition while Sakura tries to heal him. When members of the surprise attack division are attacked by the reincarnated shinobi, the third division arrives in time to intercept the attack. He is then seen with the third division fighting against the reincarnated ninja. On Kakashi's order, they regroup in a Manji formation, Lee promises that no matter what, he will protect Sakura; however, she tells him to be careful as well because the last time Zabuza was able to penetrate the formation from its weak point; the center. He and Guy then intercepted Haku's assault with the Leaf Coiling Whirlwind . In the anime, after the Seven Mist Ninja Swordsmen were summoned, Guy told Lee to pursue Pakura while he pursued Gari . After a long day of fighting, Lee and the others recovered with the remaining members of his division at nightfall.
With the fight resuming the next day, Lee stayed close to Sai, who had been charged with sealing the seven reincarnated mist spiders. Lee told Sai not to worry and to concentrate only on sealing while he protected him. When Naruto's shadow clone arrives on the battlefield, Lee exclaims that with him here, their numbers would increase. However, Naruto tells them that he wouldn't be able to perform the shadow clone technique in his current state, so they would have to defeat the new wave of Zetsu White Army clones with quality techniques rather than quantity in numbers.
Later in the anime, the Third Division met another reincarnated shinobi: Master Chen, a renowned hero of Konohagakure who died during the Third Shinobi World War. As a Might Guy who is happy at the thought of challenging such a famous taijutsu master, Konoha's Sublime Green Beast of Prey soon finds herself forced onto the defensive by the old man. One shinobi is able to break away from the battle and in his search for reinforcements, finds Rock Lee who rushes to Guy's aid. Seeing the legend he once met as a genin before him, Lee reveals his history with Chen before engaging the legend in battle. In the end, Lee is able to counter Chentechnique's leaf dragon god, using the One-Man Front Lotus he had designed to counter the former's wind rotation. As Chen's immortal body disintegrates, he remembers the time when he had his own student unable to use ninjutsu, and how he died during the Third Shinobi World War. Finally letting go of his painful past and apologizing to the young man for what he had said, the old master managed to break the summoning contract and his soul returns to the afterlife. Lee promises Chen that he will bring rice balls to his grave.
Fourth Shinobi World War: climax
After being informed by Inoichi from HQ that Naruto and B were fighting the "Masked Madara," Lee and the rest of Konoha 11 rushed to his aid. As he ran, he prompted Sai - who was lamenting the fact that he couldn't use his super beast imitation drawing technique to get to Naruto faster - by telling him that it was time to respond to the heroic efforts of those fighting Tobi.
Upon finally arriving at the battlefield and seeing his mentor's condition, Lee asked if Guy had used the Day Tiger technique again . He then stood with the other members of the allied Shinobi forces as they prepared to face their opposition. Upon opening the fifth door, Lee and his mentor prepare to attack the two Uchiha, but are shaken by the force exerted by the now fully mature Juubi.as he escaped from the hole in which he had apparently been trapped. He is then seen with Guy and Tenten reacting to Neji's death. Holding the corpse of his fallen teammate in tears, he was stopped by Guy who told him to keep his tears and keep the feelings that Neji left them. Lee was then seen listening to Naruto give comforting words to the allied forces.
Thinking back to his childhood with Neji and the conversations they had had, Lee thought of something Neji had said to him. Having received Naruto's chakra, Lee now empowered, respectfully closed the eyes of his fallen comrade before joining the ranks of the other allied shinobi. Charging into the Alliance, Lee signaled to Naruto that he would take care of Madara while he took care of Obito. With Guy giving him a boost, Lee propelled himself towards Madara and remorselessly cut the Uchiwa in half with a powerful kick, also destroying Madara's connection to the beast.
Birth of the ten-tailed Jinchūriki
Lee later looked in amazement at the red barrier that had been built around the Ten-Tails and listened as Guy remarked that only Hokage-caliber shinobi were capable of performing the technique of the Red Four Yang Formation. As the situation later became dark as the Alliance was trapped in a barrier with a tree of fire from the Tailed Beast orb , Lee and the other shinobi soon found themselves wrapped in the cloaks of the previous version 1 . He and the other were subsequently outside the barrier, escaping the near-fatal attack thanks to the action of Naruto and Minato .
The Ten-Tails transformed into its tree form, and many shinobi were attacked but Lee was able to escape. Hashirama Senju asked Ino Yamanaka to telepathically connect to everyone, Lee being one of them. Hashirama's words didn't inspire anyone, but Naruto's senjutsu-enhanced Tail Beast mode, combined with Ino's telepathy, caused his personal emotions and memories to be transferred to everyone. Later, he mobilized alongside his comrades when Naruto called them. Shocked when he was enveloped by the cloak of Naruto's tail beast mode, Lee feared to be involved in their strategy at first because it would have been his first time to use ninjutsu, but finally launched an attack on Obito and was able to overwhelm his defense by giving Naruto and Sasuke take the opportunity to attack Obito directly.
After his sensei overexerted himself, unable to stand on his own, Lee resorted to supporting him. In doing so, Lee and his teammates noticed Gaara walking past them, where Lee noticed Sakura was with him. As Guy began to worry about the situation, Madara, who had just reanimated and become the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki himself, walked past the Konoha-nin and regurgitated Benihisago and Kohaku no Jōhei , which landed on Guy and Lee.
After recomposing themselves, Guy and Lee took the lead while Tenten stayed behind. Guy arrived on the battlefield in time to save Kakashi and then confront Madara. Lee arrived shortly after to save his teacher from Madara's attack. As Guy reevaluated the situation, he decided to gamble his life and use the eighth gate against Madara. As Lee began to cry realizing what Guy's actions would mean. Guy, however, told Lee not to be sad because it was his choice.
As he watched Guy at full strength face Madara, Lee looked on proudly. When the team decided to support Guy so that he could launch his attack on the Uchiha, Lee immediately opened the sixth gate but was irritated by his own inability to fight on the same level to help Guy. Minato told Lee not to feel this way, as Guy was making his sacrifice so that Lee could live. After Minato explained the mechanics of Madara's truth-seeking balls, Lee threw the Fourth Hokage's Kunai flying thunder god in front of the chakra orbs, which allowed Minato to teleport most of the orbs. In the end, the team gave Guy the opening to deliver the five powerful blows of his evening elephant .
Lee watched in amazement as his mentor unleashed another powerful attack on Madara, noting that this time the stance he adopted was not the evening elephant, but the night guy technique . Lee was then shocked to see Naruto return with Guy who was still alive despite opening all eight doors. When Madara tried to drop the huge earthen debris on the ground, Gaara asked him to leave quickly, but later they fell victim to the Infinite Tsukuyomi . Inside the genjutsu, Lee was dreaming of finally defeating Naruto and Neji in battle, followed quickly by Sakura professing her love for him.
Kaguya Ōtsutsuki hits
In the end, Lee and the rest of the world were freed from genjutsu by Naruto and Sasuke who ended the war.

While passed out from exhaustion, Lee has a dream about Neji; Neji begins to give him advice for the wedding gift, but only manages to make vague references to strength and endurance before Lee wakes up.
As Lee stands in the middle of a street, he is greeted by Guy. Guy is about to go around Konoha until he can think of something to buy for Naruto and Hinata and invites Lee to join him. Lee reports that he has already done so without success. Guy suggests Lee try to come up with a gift for Hinata instead, while he thinks of a gift for Naruto. Lee thinks about Hinata's post-marriage life of childcare and housework. Guy thinks about Naruto's post-wedding life of housekeeping and grocery shopping. The two simultaneously conclude that they should buy dumbbells to prepare Naruto and Hinata for their life ahead. Neji's words suddenly make sense to Lee and he embraces Guy in a long, tearful embrace.
To test their idea, Lee puts on a dress and makeup so he can see what it's like to be a housewife. This only convinces him that the dumbbells were a great idea and he looks for Tenten to make sure she doesn't get Naruto and Hinata the same gift. When he finds her, Tenten is mystified by Lee's appearance and the accompanying explanation. At the wedding a few days later, she gives advice to Lee and Guy on how they should behave.

In the anime, as Lee began training his son in more advanced taijutsu, ready to teach the eight doors, he learned that Metal began relying on useless good luck trinkets to build confidence against his anxiety from too much attention. Disappointed by this, Lee postponed the training, telling Metal that he could not master the Eight Gates as he was then. Later, after Metal spent the day with Guy and learned to make the most of what you have, Lee decided to challenge Metal to a match: To receive training in the Eight Gates, Metal had to face Lee in a match surrounded by a huge crowd. and must land at least one hit. Accepting the challenge, Metal took off his trinkets and fought against all the stares and laughter from the crowd, which actually boosted his performance. In the end, Metal unlocked the first door, allowing him to solidly beat his father and win. Lee joined Metal and Guy in a group hug to celebrate Metal's success.
