Ryûk ( Jap. リューク, Ryûku ) is a god of Death. He is the one who dropped the Death Note that Light Yagami recovered in the human world.

Appearance
Ryûk is a very tall god of Death with limbs that are oversized compared to his body. His shoulders are covered with black feathers under which his wings, also black as ebony, are hidden. He wears an earring with a heart at the end, on his left ear. His head is the only part of his body that is white, and he has slightly bulging red eyes. A pouch at waist level allows him to hold his Death Note.
Personality
Ryûk is particularly curious and hates to be bored, which often leads him to visit humans and to drop his Death Note to find some entertainment. He is also a rather perceptive god of Death and very prankster.
Powers and Abilities
Like any God of Death, he possesses a Death Note and can absorb the remaining life of any human he kills with the notebook.

Ryûk introduces himself to Light Yagami who recovered the lost Death Note. Light asks him why he dropped the Death Note, this one answers him that he was bored in the world of the Gods of death.
Conception
At the beginning, Takeshi Obata wanted to use Light as a base, to whom he would have put black hair, a black suit and feathers on the shoulders, also black. However, wanting to make sure that Ryuk would not be seen as the main character, he decided to give him the appearance of a monster with an expressionless face, whose thoughts would be impossible to fathom.
