Sajin Komamura was the 7th Captain of the 13 Divisions. He is also the last representative of the werewolf race, a banned species. Because of his position, he is a major character in the Bleach Universe.

Apparence
Sajin has the appearance of an anthropomorphic canine and unfortunately, many people mistake him for a dog. Although he accepts his appearance, he didn't dare (at that time) to show himself as he was to the other Shinigami. Consequently, he put on a gear (gloves - boots - helmet) to hide his real appearance and leave a doubt about his physicality. Even if he is 289cm tall, this factor is not strong enough to induce that under this helmet hides a Shinigami with the appearance of an anthropomorphic canid. Moreover, he is one of the captains of the 13 armies of the court (The Gotei 13) the tallest and the one with an imposing build.
His fur is light brown (like his equipment) and his face is dark brown. His eyes are golden yellow (amber). Without forgetting to mention that until now, Sajin has never shown that he has a tail!
Personality
Contrary to what his true appearance may give, Sajin has unparalleled friendship and as the saying goes [He has a heart of gold!]. Moreover, he has this unmatched loyalty since he met the commander-in-chief/captain of the 1st division (Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto) . Especially for saving him from the misery of the Rukongai and teaching him to become a Shinigami. In this education, he could become a man and a beast guided by his instincts. Moreover this gratitude is such that he is ready to die for the commander in chief/captain of the 1st division.
Within his division of Gotei 13, Sajin leads it with all impartiality, a bit like Captain Unohana, Kyoraku and Ukitake. This way of leading completes his attitude towards his work and he is one of the captains of Gotei 13 who remains serious in everything he does. It is with this that he has built his reputation and that he has been able to remain in the position of captain of the 7th division until now.
His relationship with the other captains is good and he is not the kind of person to get into conflict with other Shinigami. Except with the captain of the 11th (Kenpachi Zaraki) but as the episodes (and scans) go by, we can see that he has already forgotten the act he had done especially because he always stayed present in the hardest moments of the Soul Society. Moreover, the commander in chief/captain of the 1st division had not judged this story where the captain of the 11th had tried to free the Ryoka (Intruders) during the famous execution of the soldier of the 13th (Rukia Kuchiki). So, Sajin followed the other captains and doesn't even seem to see the captain of the 11th as a traitor anymore... His only relationship that is strong was with his friend Tôsen but since his betrayal, he has strongly withdrawn to the point that he allowed his vice-captain to go and have a good time in another division. But later, after his fight with him in Karakura, he forgave him, which made his heart lighter. So, he could resume his life in the Gotei 13 and his role of captain with enthusiasm!

According to an Omake, if Sajin was to go to the Gensei (World of Humans), he would integrate without objection a Gigai (artificial body) whose appearance is that of a dog! Surprising considering his position in the Gotei 13! It is this same way of seeing himself valued that he can easily let himself be treated without even getting angry or answering intelligently. It is the case of the fight against the Arrancar of the fraction of Espada n°2 (See in replicas). And finally, his favorite food is meat, but he hates carrots, because his father once told him that "carrots are not for children".
History
One day, when he was sitting on a grassy place, Komamura was sensed by Tōsen, who did not know where he was (due to his blindness). Only when Komamura spoke to him did he realize that he had spoken in the wrong direction. Complimenting Komamura's ability to mask his presence very well, Tōsen noted that he had never been able to not feel someone's presence before, even though his eyes could not see. Komamura was very touched; it was the first time he was not considered an outcast.
Although Komamura's origins are unknown (he is the grandson of a huge dog), Yamamoto gave him the opportunity to join the Gotei 13 even though he was not human.
Komamura met Tōsen again during their time in Gotei 13, and Aizen was introduced to Komamura via Tōsen.
Synopsis
Arc de la Soul Society
In this Soul Society arc, Sajin Komamura appears for the first time with his full armor ( i.e. helmet and gloves) during the emergency meeting about Gin Ichimaru's action against the ryoka at the West Gate of the Seireitei. Positioned between Sōsuke Aizen and Kaname Tōsen in the ranks ( Odd Division), Komamura is very easily visible due to his size. After Aizen's assassination, Komamura and his friend Tousen visited Captain Retsu Unohana at the 4th Division for the autopsy of Aizen's body. The autopsy referred to an assassination... Komamura had not yet taken a position on this intrusion of the ryoka and Tousen chose to end this war. Komamura remained silent since the intrusion...
On the day of Rukia Kuchiki's execution, at the 7th division barracks, Komamura had made up his mind about the execution. His lieutenant, Tetsuzaemon Iba arrived late and explained a situation which was false. In order to give time to his captain to make his choice but Komamura had already done it! Komamura said: "Don't worry! I have no doubt. My loyalty is linked to the debt I owe to Genryusai-sama. He took me in when I was alone because everyone rejected me for my appearance. I will repay that debt, even if it means I have to die for him. I have no doubt. If his greatness says 'yes', even in death I will say 'yes'." So Komamura and Iba were ready, Tosen and his lieutenant Shūhei Hisagi burst into the 7th division. They had also chosen...
Later, they would learn that Kenpachi Zaraki had released the imprisoned ryoka and they would stop this act! Zaraki was not alone, Ikkaku Madarame ( 3rd seat of 11th division) and Yumichika Ayasegawa ( 5th seat of 11th division) wanted to fight too. So three fights were about to start:
Ikkaku Madarame vs. Tetsuzaemon Iba: Iba was an elder of the 11th division and he knew this one well. Iba had come to the 7th division because he had the abilities and it was to please mother, Chikane Iba. Moreover, the position of the 11th was blocked by Yachiru Kusajishi. This fight will not give a winner.
Yumichika Ayasegawa vs Shūhei Hisagi: As strange as it may sound, Yumichika will emerge victorious from this fight. While Hisagi was a lieutenant and Yumichika a 5th seat, the difference in level was great. But Yumichika explained that he chose the 5th seat because the number "5" looks like "3" (for his aesthetic opinion) and Ikkaku was in the 3rd seat. So Yumichika was stronger but that's not all! Yumichika's Shikai was not revealed in full. For one of his aesthetic reasons, Yumichika preferred the name "Fuji Kujaku" instead of "Ruri'iro Kujaku" to his Zanpakuto.
Komamura and Kaname Tōsen vs Kenpachi Zaraki: Tosen and Komamura will start the fight together by combining their Shikai. They will hit Zaraki, believing they have injured or even killed him but Zaraki was not that easy to beat. Moreover, he continued to provoke the two captains (he wanted to push them to the maximum and especially to see at least their Bankai) and Tosen accepted to realize his wish with his Bankai. But Tosen will not be able to beat him with his Bankai and his Justice. Komamura will intervene to save his friend from an enemy he will never beat.
Then, Komamura will engage the fight with his face uncovered and Zaraki was not surprised of his real face but he wanted to know if he had the same strength as the beast he was. Komamura then activated his Bankai but he left because he felt the release of the Captain-Commander's Shikai.
Komamura went to the place of the fight of the captain-commander then he heard like all the other members of Gotei 13, the revelation about the assassination of Aizen and his plan. He understood that this time, he had to go to the Sokyoku. There, he saw Aizen, Gin and Tousen. He attacked directly Aizen with his Shikai as soon as he arrived. Then, Aizen arrived quickly near Komamura. Aizen mentioned quietly: "I finally saw your real face. Komamura asked him a question and told him that he will never forgive him for betraying the Soul Society. He attacked again with his Shikai but Aizen dodged. Komamura was angry about this situation and stared at Tousen and asked him for an explanation about his choice. Komamura had no answer... He tried to release his Bankai to defeat Aizen but Aizen's Shikai came into action. Aizen reappeared near Komamura and Komamura saw an illusion and the real one was near him. Aizen then performed a Kidô (Hadô 90:Kurohitsugi-Black Casket) and defeated Komamura.
Komamura will regain consciousness after the three traitors leave with a Negacion to the Hueco Mundo. Komamura shouted to Tosen: "Why did you become a shinigami? Is it for your dead friend? Is it for Justice?" Tosen replied, "All that is reflected in my eyes is the path less tainted with blood. The path I take is Justice!" Then Komamura left the Soukyoukou without accepting the care of the 4th division and Iba will help his captain to walk. Later, Komamura would find himself in front of the grave of Tosen's deceased friend: "What would you have said to stop him?". Hisagi arrived near the grave and was surprised to see Captain Komamura. He said: "Will it be possible to bring back Captain Tosen?" Komamura replied, "... With our hands, we will open Tosen's eyes!"
Arc des Bounts ( Special Edition )
In this arc of the bounts, Sajin Komamura is in the midst of a discussion with the 9th division lieutenant, Shūhei Hisagi. The bounts had invaded the Sereitei and the alarm was raised. Hisagi explained the situation: "Some shinigami were possessed by a doll of a bount. From then on, they would attack other shinigami and that bount was Mabashi." Komamura asked if there was a way to break this spell with his bare hands, but Hisagi explained that if one tried, the shinigami would die. Later, he would fight the possessed shinigami with his division and Hisagi. Then he proposed to take the possessed shinigami to the 4th division to heal them. Then, Komamura tried to push them away with his reiatsu (spiritual energy) until a shinigami stabbed him. Then Komamura lost his patience and decided to end the fight. Later, Komamura will have the task to protect the captain-commander of the leader of the bounts, Kariya Jin.
Arc des Arrancars
In this arc of the Arrancars, Sajin Komamura will never leave the Seireitei to help in the Arrancars' fight. Although he wishes it, the priority order was the protection of the Seireitei by keeping all the forces of the Gotei 13. We will see him a few times in the meetings of the captains of the Gotei 13.
New Captain Shūsuke Amagai's Bow (Special Edition)
In this arc of the new captain of the 3rd division, we see Sajin Komamura being present at the presentation meeting of the captain of the 3rd division. As soon as he arrives, he notices immediately that his Zanpakuto is a "Kodachi".
Then he tells Kyoraku, "I would like to attend the examination of this one." Kyoraku replies, "It won't really matter because he is certain that he will become captain, we need him."
Later, Komamura will find himself in front of the grave of Tousen's deceased friend with his lieutenant, Tetsuzaemon Iba. He has learned about the recent mission made by the 3rd division and Komamura tells him, "The Seireitei is changing." Tetsuzeamon did not understand and Komamura said, "That someone from the Omnitsukidou could become a captain of Gotei 13 at any time..." Tetsuzeamon says, "That may be true but who are the other two captains who tested him?" Komamura replies, "I don't know but something new is coming."
Arch of the False Karakura Town
In this arc of Faux Karakura Town, Sōsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, Kaname Tōsen, and the three Espadas of Las Noches were heading to Karakura. Some members of Gotei 13 and Sajin Komamura were ready to receive them for one of the biggest fights. While other captains went to the Hueco Mundo to get Orihime Inoue and help Ichigo and his friends.
The battle started with the captain-commander with his Shikai imprisoning the three traites. Then Baraggan Luisenbarn called Menos Grande to destroy the pillars. But the Gotei 13 had planned their four guards: Ikkaku Madarame,Yumichika Ayasegawa, Izuru Kira and Shūhei Hisagi. Komamura started his first fight against Choe Neng Poww, the Arrancar of the Barragan fraction. While this one was facing Ikkaku Madarame who had been beaten for a reason of his own, Komamura arrived to the general surprise of everyone facing the Arrancar. Very quickly, the fight began with simple hand to hand combat, just to test their strength. Then, the Arrancar did not take long to use his "Calderon" Resurrection. Komamura then presented himself in front of him: "It's just that I haven't said my name yet. I am the captain of the 7th division, Sajin Komamura. I am ashamed to admit it, but what you say is right. I am just a miserable bug." He will defeat this one with his Bankai "Kokujo Tegen Myô" without having too much difficulty against him.
Later, all the lieutenants of Gotei 13 had all been defeated by Ayon, the chimera of the Harribel fraction. The captain-commander, Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto will defeat it with his Shikai. Then, all the Gotei captains except the captain-commander will face their opponents, the Espadas. Exception, Komamura who wanted to fight Tousen then he had to take care of the protection of the wounded lieutenant who were taken care by the lieutenant of the 3rd division, Izuru Kira.

Suddenly, a Garganta was opening according to Sōsuke Aizen's plans, a huge Hollow was coming out along with Wonderweiss Margera. As the battle of the Gotei 13 captains turned ugly... The Vizards, the ex-Shinigamis of the Gotei 13 were entering the scene but to do a favor to Ichigo Kurosaki and especially to take revenge on Aizen. So, the Espadas didn't have much of an advantage against the Gotei 13 and the Vizards. While Shinji Hirako tried to fight Aizen, Tousen prevented him from doing so. Then Komamura arrived to fight him. Komamura and Tousen will be face to face and Komamura will say: "I never thought that the moment would come when I would have to protect someone from your sword". Then, Hisagi will appear in the fight trying to catch Tousen with his Shikai. From then on, Komamura and Hisagi will try to resonate Tousen without giving it their all but with his Hollowmorphosis, Hisagi will be defeated and Komamura will have to resort to Bankai. Moreover, Tousen will use his Resurrection which gave him too much power against Bankai.
Komamura will fight with his Bankai against Tousen but his Resurrection was too strong and Komamura was too slow. While Tousen was about to kill Komamura... Hisagi will come to end the fight and defeat Tousen. But Tousen's inner hollow will give him the possibility to see his friends again. Komamura will say: "If our beliefs are irreconcilable, there is no point in trying to convince you. In the name of the Soul Society, I must fight you. I wouldn't be, but I'm glad I could hear your true feelings. My heart has already forgiven you". But Tousen exploded in blood and Komamura knew that his next fight would be with Aizen. Ichigo was able to arrive in Karakura with Retsu Unohana and he was ready to beat Aizen but he was quickly destabilized by his words. But Komamura arrived near him holding his Zanpakutô: "Be careful not to get carried away in your anger and lose yourself to him. He will pay with his life. ". Then Komamura admitted that all the shinigamis of Gotei 13 here and those of Hueco Mundo are here to help Ichigo in his fight. As the other captains of Gotei 13 and the Vizards had finished their fight against the Espadas, they were heading to Aizen. Komamura said to Ichigo, "I thank you for coming here to defeat fight Aizen, otherwise I would have attacked him with my rage and I would have surely died." From then on, Komamura would join the fight with the others. He started with his Shikai with zanjetsu but it was useless.
Then, he used his Bankai after the others had tried their chance but Aizen broke the blade of the Bankai, so that of Komamura and cut his left arm of the Bankai, so at the same time that of Komamura. Komamura screamed in pain but tried to attack with his broken Zanpakutô but Aizen put an end to his fight with a horizontal Zanpakutô blow in his chest. Then, Komamura fell in the city...
Arc of the Unknown Tale of the Zanpakutōs (Non-Series)
In this arc of Zanpakuto, Sajin Komamura received a Butterfly of Hell for an emergency meeting which was held on the Sokyoku hill. Komamura was arriving with his lieutenant Tetsuzaemon Iba and all the top brass of Gotei 13 were there. Suddenly, Lieutenant Chōjirō Sasakibe arrived and then fell to the ground. Everyone remained on guard when a mysterious figure was present on the hill and he said, "The captain-commander is not coming." Immediately Komamura came to him and said: "What did you do to the captain-commander?!" The character did not answer which enraged Komamura. Komamura drew his Zanpakuto but the mysterious man dodged the blow. Komamura said: "Bankai! Kokujo Tegen Myô!" The stranger replied, "Your power will not work on me." So, Komamura was attacking via his Bankai when suddenly it was attacking his master. Fortunately, Komamura had been able to dodge at the last moment in total incomprehension. Suddenly, his Bankai disappeared to materialize in front of him. Komamura did not realize that it was Tenken. Suddenly, he started to attack his master and Komamura blocked. He tried to resist but Tenken was stronger than him. So Tenken put an end to Komamura with the same Zanpakuto as his master and he put him in a coma.
Later, the unknown one shouted war to the shinigamis and said that their Zanpakutô will not be their ally anymore. All the Zanpakutô of the Gotei 13's high ranks arrived on the hill and declared war. Tetsuzaemon and Shūhei Hisagi will take Komamura away from here because they realized that they cannot win now. He will be taken to the 4th division for treatment...
Later, the shinigamis of Gotei 13 will have taken over the situation against the unknown Muramasa. In his plan, he will go to Karakura to free his locked up master. A battle will break out against the great menos called by Muramasa and all the Gotei 13 will be present to fight. Komamura will be in the presence of Tenken. Directly, Komamura will call his Bankai to get rid of the big menos. But there were too many of them... So, all the members of Gotei 13 had to concentrate their reiatsu (spiritual energy) on closing the Garganta. Gotei 13 will succeed and Ichigo will get rid of Muramasa.
Arc of the millennial war of blood
Komamura reappears in the 13 divisions. He witnesses Ichigo's request to take Ginjou's body in the real world.
During the Vandenreich invasion, he goes to where Bambietta is and arrests her. He notices that they even have girls in the rebel army and Bambietta remarks that Soul Society must be running out of soldiers with a wolf as captain. Iba then arrives near his captain. Komamura tells him that after his bankai gets sealed they will find a way to deactivate the seal while fighting side by side. Komamura unleashes his bankai but to his surprise his bankai is not sealed but stolen.
In the period before the second invasion, Komamura goes to visit his uncle Oojiji who is an old giant wolf, he doesn't seem satisfied with his visit and starts a hostile tone
During the 2nd invasion of the SternRitters, Komamura saves Hirako and Hinamori from Bambietta's final blow and unleashes his bankai "Dangai Joe", and defeats her before transforming into a wild wolf.
Skills and Competencies
- Zanjetsu specialist: Sajin Komamura is a shinigami who has a heavy Zanpakutô and he can hold it with one hand. The proof of his strength is that he was able to hold his Zanpakutô in hand against Kenpachi Zaraki but it must be said that Zaraki was not at his maximum strength. Moreover, he deploys his great zanjutsu skill during his Shikai and Bankai
- Great strength: He has an unnatural appearance but the appearance he embodies gives him a strength and rage that allows him to stand up to his opponents. For example, he was able to fight Choe Neng Poww with his bare hands when he saved Ikkaku Madarame. Furthermore, he was able to lift and throw Choe Neng Poww when he released his Resurreccion even though he had a huge size
- Strong Resistance: A great quality about him would be his stamina and mental toughness in battle. During the series, we hardly saw a victorious Komamura but in his defeats, he could show that he was worthy of his captaincy.
- Facing Kenpachi Zaraki, although he saw his friend Tousen being beaten even with his Bankai and without being able to reason with him. He arrived to protect Tousen from an attack which could have injured him, he took the blow on his helmet and then started his fight with his Bankai but did not start because Komamura was heading towards the Sokyoku.
- When he arrived on the Sokyoukou hill to understand the situation that was taking place. He fought Sōsuke Aizen but without success because this one beat him with a Kido (Hado 90) without incantation and the Shikai of Aizen gave him a great advantage on Komamura ( Of course, his Shikai hypnotized all the Seireitei.). Moreover, the Kido without incantation showed the difference of power between them. However, when Aizen, Gin and Tousen left with a negacion to the Hueco Mundo, Komamura got up, while it was believed finished, to understand why Tousen left the Soul Society. Later, he would even refuse the care of the 4th division.
- During his fight against Choe Neng Poww, he received a fist from the arrancar that he could have dodged and crossed the city on a long distance by the attack. He then came back to face the arrancar without looking hurt by the attack of this one. He will use his Bankai...
- Facing his friend Tousen, when he saw that this one had acquired the hollowmorphose and that he had nothing human anymore, Komamura was ready to fight even if he knew that he would not win. He was ready to die to bring back his friend Tousen. He would use his Bankai...
- He would then continue the fight against Aizen with the others even if he was seriously injured by his fight against Tousen, he would fight with all his strength with his Bankai and even with a cut arm.
- Developed senses : Thanks to his appearance, Komamura has developed his senses.
- Communication with animals : His appearance allows him to communicate with animals.
- Spiritual energy : Sajin Komamura is a captain who possesses an immense reserve of spiritual energy. He demonstrated during his fights (See in the description Strong resistance) that he could use his Shikai and Bankai several times without it tiring him. He could also demonstrate that by releasing his spiritual energy he could make the ground tremble or even break it (it depends of course on his mood.). His spiritual energy is also used to reduce the damage he receives. Moreover, he is able to mask it.
- Human transformation technique : A secret arcane called Jinka no Jutsu which is unique to the komamura clan, which allows them to get rid of their bestial form and come back to their human form by obtaining immortality, unfortunately its effect is temporary and the bestial form is taken back at the end. This result is obtained by forcibly removing his heart. In this form, his body is nothing more than an empty shell. The arcane allows his clan to obtain an immortal body by offering their physical heart. Therefore, as long as he is human, he can never die. In this state, attacks have no effect on either Komamura or his Bankai and all wounds regenerate quickly.
Zanpakutō
Tengen (Heavenly Chastisement) is a Nodachi type Zanpakuto and therefore long and large (above the Katana and Wakizashi). Its guard is rectangular...
Shikai : The invocation sentence is " Rugis,Tengen" ("Roar" comes from the game Bleach, the 3rd Phantom if not any other source.). So, Tengen is a materialization of the body parts of the Bankai. When Komamura calls his Shikai, this one must make the movement he chooses from his attack (Zanjutsu or Hakuda). This one follows a vertical direction compared to its master. The speed of the attack varies with the quality of his master and the relationship he has with his Zanpakutô (Of course, he masters it perfectly during the series). Tengen is a physical type and therefore, everything is based on the damage done to the enemy.
Bankai : " Kokujô Tengen Myô'o ( Black strings of divine punishment)". In this form, Sajin keeps his Zanpakutô because it is thanks to this one that he can control his Bankai, otherwise, he can neither move nor attack without his master. This one requires a lot of spiritual energy to be able to maintain it (which still proves the quantity of spiritual energy that he possesses.). His Bankai materializes behind him, it is about a hundred meters high. The giant takes the form of a samurai in armor, he has a katana quite different from his master and he copies the movements of Komamura but whose power will of course be proportional to his size. This allows him to fight big enemies or even an entire army and cause a lot of damage around his combat zone. We notice that his Bankai is not sensitive to Cero or Kido since he already has an armor and depends on the state of Komamura in combat. However, his Bankai remains a huge weak point. If his opponent is stronger and gives powerful physical blows to the Bankai, it will directly affect Komamura. Komamura's Bankai is so strong that he never thought about his opponent getting up from his attack. His other weak point is his speed, if his opponent is too fast he has no time to block or avoid the blows because of his huge size.
Dangai Jôe (divine string armor):In its Dangai Joe form,
Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō is removed, exposing a body composed of nothing but pure reiatsu. Since her armor represents her life span, by removing it, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō literally gives up her life. When Komamura uses this technique, his Bankai brings the full giant, as usual. The difference is that in this form, the giant throws away his armor, keeping only a large cord running several times around his body. His face is visible, resembling that of a demonic creature. This form is only possible through the use of Komamura's humanization technique. Due to the nature of the technique used to achieve this form and its symbiotic connection with its wearer, this Bankai is virtually invulnerable to physical damage, giving it a power in battle far superior to its former self, removing any weaknesses including its slowness.
Other appearances
Komamura appears in most of the Bleach games. He is a decent character who moves slowly, but displays incomparable fighting strength in close combat such as throws and high defense, which makes him difficult to defeat. His alternative costume is when he is with his helmet in most games. Most games give Komamura and his Bankai some independence from each other, so that he works better as a game mechanic.

In Bleach: Dark Souls, one of the mini-game events in Part 2 of the story mode deals with Sajin and Hisagi's birthday, which took place a week after Tōsen's betrayal. In order to cheer them up, Matsumoto gets Ichigo's help in obtaining Komamura's gift of bones, which she says is Komamura's favorite thing. After the mini-game, the birthday celebration happens. Ichigo's gift of bones scares Sajin. Ichigo immediately realizes that Matsumoto has cheated him. After Matsumoto lights the fireworks, Komamura thanks him. It is revealed that Iba offered wine to him and Hisagi.
In Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, Komamura is heard giving a summoning command to his Zanpakutō, saying "Rugit, Tenken". He is also one of the first recruits during free time events after the ellipse. Sajin is able to befriend the protagonist of the game, such that according to Iba, he is able to associate with their loneliness. He gives the protagonist the offer to join the Gotei in the Seventh Division. Sajin also informs the 4 Guardians of the 4 Gates that the protagonist has his permission to enter the Seireitei when he needs it.
