History
At the beginning of the manga, Shinichi Kudo is a rather famous high school detective who often helps the Chaganifty Tokyo police in solving cases.
One day, Shinichi took Ran to a park called Tropical Land, to celebrate her victory in the karate championship. He solved a murder case there. Later, he followed a suspicious man in black, Vodka, who was a suspect in the previous case. Shinichi witnesses a blackmail scene between the man in black and a company president, but he is too focused to notice Gin, Vodka's partner, who had snuck up behind him. Gin knocked him out and forced him to swallow an experimental poison called APTX 4869, then left him dying. Instead of killing Shinichi, the poison shrunk his body by ten years. After escaping, he tried to return home, but being too small, he couldn't open his gate. He then decided to ring the bell of his neighbor, Professor Agasa, who advised him to keep the story about the Men in Black Organization a secret, because if they knew that the poison failed, they would decide to kill all his relatives including Ran and Mr. Mouri.
Conan Edogawa
Shinichi chooses his name Conan Edogawa with the names of novelists Arthur Conan Doyle and Edogawa Rampo and pretends to be the nephew of Professor Agasa who places him at Ran's house. His father, Kogoro Mouri, owns a detective agency, which could allow Conan to be involved again in a case with the Men in Black Organization. In the meantime, he protects his new identity by pretending to be a first grader and enrolling at Teitan Elementary School. Three of his classmates forced him to join them and formed the Detective Boys group after which he tries to keep them out of trouble by solving cases with Kogoro and seeking a cure with Ai Haibara. He mainly continues to solve cases by using Kogoro and knocking him out with the stunt gun of the wristwatch that Kogoro is famous for. There are few characters that he sometimes uses as a detective, except Kogoro as Sonoko. Inspector Yamamura, or Heiji and Dr. Agasa, without knocking them out since the latter two know his secret.
Personality
At the beginning of the series, Shinichi Kudo is a 16 year old student (17 in the anime) at Teitan High School. He is then known as a brilliant detective, the "Savior of the Japanese Police", solving criminal cases that professionals were stuck on, he is also a polymath. His father is Yusaku Kudo, a mystery writer and his mother is Yukiko Kudo, a former actress. He is very intelligent and despite his young age is observant. Due to the influence of his father and the atmosphere at home, he was a great reader, especially of detective novels. Yusaku took his son to crime scenes at a very young age, which is a reason for his detective spirit. Because of his outspokenness and manners, Shinichi comes across as rude and arrogant. However, he cares about human life and does not understand why murderers kill and is convinced that letting someone commit suicide makes the person a murderer too. The few times he could not save people's lives haunt him throughout the series.
He speaks English very well and can carry on a conversation with an American diplomat and solved the London case, without the language barrier bothering him too much. Before his transformation, Shinichi was looking forward to receiving honors, appearing in the newspaper and receiving letters from fans. Then, his difficult situation forced him to acquire a humble character.
Despite his popularity with the public, he has very few close friends. Shinichi was already friends with Ran and Agasa, then became friends with Heiji and Ai, and then to a lesser extent with the Detective Boys.
Apparence
Shinichi strongly resembles his father in his dark hair, complexion and facial structures. The only feature he does not share is the mustache. And the feature he shares with his mother is the color of his eyes, blue. He often appears in his high school uniform, but is also seen wearing regular clothes and a suit on occasion. He is considered very handsome and attractive.
Skills
Policing skills
Shinichi is an excellent detective, often compared to Sherlock Holmes himself. He has acquired many nicknames such as "the modern day Sherlock Holmes" or "the Eastern Detective". He has a keen sense of observation and takes into account details that most people ignore or fail to see. He has proven many times his exceptional memory, especially photographic memory by remembering details of other cases or subjects. His attention to detail allows him to notice inconsistencies in a crime scene or in testimony. He has an immense culture that he uses to solve cases. People of similar intelligence and age to Shinichi are Heiji Hattori and Kaito Kid.
Sports Skills
In addition to his detective skills, Shinichi is a great sportsman, especially in soccer, his favorite sport. He is excellent at soccer and could have become a professional player, but he preferred to stay on an amateur level to devote himself to criminal cases. He originally played to improve his reflexes, but he often juggles to clear his mind. His soccer skills have given him a special signature: he stops criminals by shooting them with legendary accuracy. He can shoot from great distances and can mentally calculate the angle of a rebound to hit someone from behind. He also masters skateboarding, skiing and snowboarding.
He is also proficient with firearms, as his father used to fire a pistol at him from time to time. During the theft of the Clock by Kaito Kid, he was able to remove the veil that hid it with two shots from a helicopter. And in movie 2; he shot Ran with great accuracy to free her.
Shinichi also has strong athletic skills and is extremely agile. He dodged Ran's karate attacks while she was a champion.
Musical skills
Shinichi can't sing and is often accused of being musically deaf. But this has been proven wrong, because Shinichi has absolute pitch. He was able to recognize the different notes of a telephone number. And like Sherlock Holmes, he plays the violin. This was confirmed in the movie 12 "The Sound of Fear", during which he played "Amazing Grace" for Ran. He also has his own way of playing.

Overview
Because the story revolves around Shinchi trying to protect his "Conan" identity, Shinichi does not appear often in the series. Conan is often seen talking to Ran by changing his voice or sending him messages with Shinichi's cell phone. So we can say that Shinichi appears during these phone exchanges and messages.
The Outcome
We see Shinichi at the beginning of the manga, but his poisoning in Conan marks the beginning of the manga. Since then, Conan came back several times as Shinichi.
Murder of a Diplomat
Shinichi reappears in Volume 10 when the Osaka detective, Heiji Hattori, comes to the Mouri Detective Agency to challenge Shinichi. The combination of a cold and alcohol called Beïkal makes him return to his original strength. But his body develops immunity to alcohol, which prevents him from doing the experiment again.
Dengerous return
In volume 26, Conan takes an antidote that Ai has developed. He tries to surprise Ran by disguising himself to perform the play, but a murder case cuts him off. The antidote allows him to last 48 hours, but he falls on the first day without re-transforming. He re-transforms into Conan, just as he is about to declare his feelings to Ran.
The murderer is Shinichi Kudo
We will have to wait for volume 62 for the next appearance of Shinichi, during an affair with Heiji. Conan is missing and Shinichi seems to have come back. But this last one is in fact a person who made plastic surgery to look like Shinichi and to destroy his reputation of detective. But the real Shinichi came back with a new antidote from Haibara. After this case, Shinichi becomes Conan again, but fortunately, Haibara gives him a second dose of antidote, saving him from Kogoro, Ran and Kazuha . On their way home, the group is confronted with a second murder case, which Heiji and Shinichi will investigate, as he is about to become Conan again. After the case is solved, Ran and Shinichi are about to confess their feelings, but the transformation takes place as Ran takes Shinichi's hand. By cutting and sewing Conan's clothes, Haibara and Agasa manage to save Conan once again.
The Holmes Book of Revelations
In volume 71, Conan, Ran and Kogoro are invited to England by a wealthy woman from the London elite, Diana Kingstone, after Kogoro discovers her cat at Café Poirot. Since "Conan Edogawa" doesn't really exist, Haibara gives him a prototype antidote so that he can make the trip as Shinichi. She also gives him a second antidote for the return trip, but Conan used it to escape from Ran. He then confesses his feelings to Ran. Fortunately, Haibara has provided a final antidote so that he can return to Japan.
Flashback
Shinichi appears in many flashbacks.

Shinichi is seen solving his first case in a flashback that is Ran's dream.
New York
He is then seen solving a case in New York, still in Ran's dream.

Film 7
In movie 7, Heiji is injured and Kazuha has been kidnapped. By transforming into Shinichi, thanks to an antidote of Haibara and by disguising himself as Heiji, he manages to save Kazuha. Unfortunately, the transformation cannot last more than one hour during which he will be extremely weak.
FVO 1
During a confrontation between Conan, Yaiba and Kid, Conan takes an ancestral medicine which transforms him into Kogoro, Heiji then Shinichi. It turns out that all this was a dream.
FVO 9
In this OVA, Conan takes an antidote, which plunges him into a state of subconsciousness. In his dream, he would have slept 10 years. The Detective Boys would be in high school and Ran would be 27 years old.
Relationship analysis
Since Shinichi no longer appears as frequently as Conan, only a few of his relationships have been heavily revealed.
Ran Mouri
Ran Mouri is Shinichi's childhood friend. They played together since kindergarten, although Shinichi got Ran into some minor trouble, especially because of Yukiko. Shinichi started to like Ran since her freshman year of high school and refused all other advances, but she never understood that. At the beginning of the manga, neither of them seems to realize the other's feelings. Shinichi realizes this when Ran confesses her feelings for him to Conan. Shinichi confessed his feelings in the movie 4, non-Conan (when he wanted to make Ran recover his memory). He wanted to do it several times in the manga and the anime, but business or his transformation prevented him from declaring his love for her. He will finally do it when they were in London. Ran hasn't declared her feelings yet, but he already seems to know how she feels.
Shinichi's first disappearance disturbed Ran, so much so that she didn't sleep and called the police. Since then, Conan regularly calls Ran, imitating Shinichi's voice, to tell her that she doesn't need to worry about him. He convinced her that he was working on an extremely complex case and that he would come back when he had solved it.
Shinichi/Conan also has sexual fantasies about Ran, the most obvious evidence of which is the nosebleeds and blushing when he sees her in a swimsuit. As for Ran, she often blushes when she thinks of Shinichi, and Sonoko likes to tease her about it. Her attitude towards Conan is more open. Indeed, she could call it brotherly, when she gives him her hand or caresses him.
Shinichi and Ran seem to share a very strong bond because of their feelings towards each other, which makes them save each other in case of extreme danger.
Yusaku Kudo and Yukiko Kudo
Yusaku and Yukiko know that Conan is a pervert. His parents are even more perverted than he is. His father is a well-known mystery writer in America as well as in Japan and his mother is a famous retired actress who is still involved in the movie business. They currently live in the United States and have been traveling extensively since they left Shinichi in Japan when he was fourteen. Although he sometimes finds them boring, he loves them dearly. Yusaku is also a detective with a sharper sense of observation than his son, so he always solves the case before him.
Hiroshi Agasa
Although they are not of the same blood, a strong relationship unites the Kudo and Hiroshi Agasa. He was the first one to know about Shinichi's transformation and helped him to hide. Most of the gadgets were invented by Agasa to enable Shinichi to solve cases and capture criminals as Conan. He also knows the bond between Ran and Shinichi and sometimes helps him in his romance (especially when Shinichi is not there).
Heiji Hattori
At their first meeting, Conan and Heiji seemed to be great rivals, especially after Shinichi beat him. Since he knows Conan's secret, he decided to keep silent (although he makes many slip-ups in public). After Heiji realized the truth, they became the best friends and do not hesitate to contact each other for solving investigations, researching the Men in Black and their girlfriend. They solved many investigations together and Heiji doesn't hesitate to say that Shinichi is his best friend or his brother.
Heiji still has feelings of rivalry towards Shinichi, and gets angry if someone says that Shinichi is better than him. He tries hard to prove that the West (Osaka) is better than the East (Tokyo). Shinichi is not interested in this competition, but he may become competitive if he feels that Heiji is becoming the "winner" or hurts his ego. Others, like Ran and Kazuha, claim that they have the same detective skills.
Ai Haibara
Ai Haibara is a former member of the Men in Black organization, who was turned into a girl by the same poison as Shinichi. She is the third girl who seems to have feelings for Shinichi, even if she doesn't admit it. Indeed, it's a mystery as to the nature of the feelings that unite them. Some people, like Yukiko, Jodie or Gin, say that Haibara is in love with Conan. One could say that their intelligence level is similar and that they have the same destiny (they both took APTX 4869). That's why she doesn't hesitate to make fun of him or to insult him, pointing out his weaknesses.
Detective Boys
Shinichi has never actually met the Detective Boys canonically. In Magic File 2, he asks them to confirm a suspect's alibi. In the first episode, he sees Genta, Mitsuhiko and Ayumi sneak through the air vents to do the attraction without paying.
Juzo Megure
Juzo Megure has worked with Shinichi many times to solve criminal cases. During Shinichi's first case, Megure seemed to be angry when he heard that Shinichi was working on the case. But since then, he was able to win Megure's trust with his exceptional resolutions. The latter even thanked him. According to the rumors, he is bald, which is why he always wears a hat.
Kaito Kid
Despite the fact that Shinichi and Toichi Kuroba (Kaito Kid n°1) met only once before the death of the latter, it is noted that Toichi called Shinichi "his big brother" and himself "the little brother" (episodes 472-473). This can be confusing (especially because at that time Shinichi was only seven years old and Toichi was an adult), but we understand by following the case that it was Yusaku Kudo who had nicknamed the thieving magician "Kid" and that it was for this reason that he called himself the second son of Yuusaku and therefore "the little brother" of Shinichi. Toichi Kuroba, the father of the current Kaito Kid was in fact Yusaru Kudo, the little brother of Yusaku Kudo. Shinichi and the new Kaito Kid met once during the flight of the Clock Tower. Kaito thought that Shinichi's presence would be more entertaining than Saguru Hakuba's and Shinichi thought that Kid's action to save the Tower from demolition was admirable.
In their next confrontation, Shinichi had become Conan and Conan would stop Kaito Kid from stealing the Suzuki's Black Star. In later encounters, Conan shows more clearly his will to stop the Kid. Conan seems to be able to "feel" the Kid's presence and the Kid behaves more frantically with Conan's presence. Conan always manages to take over the larceny from Kid, but lets him run away.
People who know Conan's true identity
Few people know Conan's identity without having betrayed him. The main characters so far are Hiroshi Agasa, his parents, Heiji Hattori and Ai Haibara. Vermouth knows it too, but she decided to keep it a secret, because he saved her in New York. Eisuke Hondo also knows it, but keeps silent. Kaito Kid is also aware of it, we can see it for the 1st time in the movie 3 and then Gosho Aoyama confirmed it in an interview in the Conan years cinema guide p.160, so it is a canon element. To the question "How does the Kid know Conan's identity?", he answered "Well... He looked it up!". Ran often has doubts, but Conan managed to make him believe that Conan and Shinichi are two different people. Finally Subaru Okiya heard Conan using Shinichi's voice and it is proved later that Subaru is in fact Shuichi Akai so he knows Conan's identity. There is also Sera Masumi, who guessed it at the end of the school trip.
