Personality
Taki is generally a kind, hardworking and caring person. He is also helpful, responsible and balanced. Although he is organized and generally handles everything quite well, his busy lifestyle and creative side; being interested in architecture and art and having artistic abilities, can seem disorganized but hardworking. He can also be persistent at times, and can even be described as sensitive towards others as he is quick to anger. This makes him impatient and stubborn, as he is shown with a bandage on his face the first time Mitsuha wakes up in his body, suggesting that he was injured in a fight.
Taki is a bit short-tempered and direct, and he tends to accidentally blurt out the first thing that comes to mind without restraint or tact when he is nervous or stressed, whether it is wrong or right. However, he quickly corrects his speech patterns by saying what he really wants the next second. Although polite, Taki is very simple and can easily defend himself and others and hates being put down by others. Unlike Mitsuha who takes the belittling of her father and classmates without so much as a whisper in retaliation, Taki in his body ends up delivering verbal (and in some cases, physical) lashes. He makes good use of his over-assertiveness when he rubs off on Mitsuha and she eventually gains the confidence to stand up to her father.
Although he tries to restrain himself, he does grope Mitsuha's chest when he inhabits her body, which would lead Mitsuha to call him a pervert later on. He is also seen as very carefree and tomboyish as Taki in Mitsuha's body, as he does not take much notice of things like skirts, bras, and Mitsuha's growing popularity. Taki also noted that Mitsuha has become more popular because he inhabits her body, with boys and girls sending him love letters, indicating that Taki is charismatic and sociable. However, he seems to be quite poor in romance and he states that he is single because he apparently wants to be, having absolutely no idea what to do during his date with Okudera and being dishonest about his own feelings. This can be seen when he denied his feelings towards Mitsuha although they are very obvious.
Taki is a very determined person, as he explores rural Japan in order to meet Mitsuha in person, with only sketches of her town that he pulled from his memory because he doesn't know the name. Even after discovering that she passed away three years ago, he is still determined to find a way to reconnect with her. Five years later, even after losing all memories of her, that determination still stands.
As an adult, Taki has matured but still has his old personality. He has developed an even deeper fascination with architecture and Itomori, as he wants to build comforting landscapes that Tokyo will remember, as he might disappear just like Itomori. Deep down, he also feels empty and always feels like he is looking for someone or something, although he thinks he is mixing this feeling with stress to find a job until he finds Mitsuha again.
Kimi no Na wa.
Not much is known about Taki's background, but he lives with his father in an apartment. His father seems to be a busy person, as he is not often seen at home. According to the director of the film Makoto Shinkai, Taki's parents got divorced some time before the story begins.

Itomori Incident (2013)
At the time of 2013, Taki is fourteen years old and in his last year of middle school. Somewhere around the summer, Mitsuha Miyamizu began to change bodies with Taki, even though it was him three years later when he was seventeen, the same age as Mitsuha at the time. As such, Taki in the current timeline did not experience the body change and did not know who Mitsuha was.
One day, when Mitsuha had gone to Tokyo to find Taki, she finds him on the train on her way home. On the train, Taki reads some flashcards, not paying any attention to Mitsuha right in front of him. Mitsuha calls him and asks him if he remembers her, but Taki asks him outright who she is. Although Mitsuha is saddened by his answer, she doesn't pursue her research. In Taki's case, he gives the impression that she is a strange girl. However, he seems interested in getting to know her, as he asks her name when she is about to leave his station. Mitsuha gives Taki her name and her braided cord that she wears, something that Taki would often wear as a good luck charm for the following years.
That same night, Taki watches television and hears about the comet. He went out on his balcony and saw the shooting stars, which he thought was nothing short of a beautiful sight. However, Taki did not know that the comet had hit Itomori, because he would not learn about it until 3 years later.

Mangas
The manga omits Taki's job search to make room for Mitsuha's point of view in the epilogue.
Tenki no Ko
On August 14, 2021, Taki went to his grandmother's house to help her organize the Obon ceremony for his late grandfather. There he met Hina Amano and Hodaka Morishima and advised Hodaka to find a gift for Hina's upcoming birthday. At this point, Taki has not yet found Mitsuha.
At the time of 2024, it is mentioned in the novel Tenki no Ko that Taki's grandmother has a picture of her grandson's wedding and wears a braided cord on her right hand, but it is not known if Mitsuha did it. However, Makoto Shinkai clarifies in a director's interview that Taki and Mitsuha did indeed get married and does not care about the different chronologies of his works.
Mitsuha Miyamizu
Taki got to know Mitsuha when they started to change bodies in their dreams. In search of an answer to the strange phenomenon, they agreed to help each other by establishing rules to protect each other's contrasting lifestyles in the meantime. They have a complex relationship at first: Taki is sometimes grateful to Mitsuha, but at other times, he is very annoyed with her for various reasons. Similarly, Mitsuha complains about Taki and the actions he takes in her body as well. This results in quarrels, arguments and the two leave insults like "idiot" on each other's skin. However, despite this, they develop a deep connection, come to understand each other on a different level and Taki comes to care deeply for her. Taki also learns a lot about Mitsuha; including her lifestyle, traditions, family, and friends. Since Mitsuha is a shrine girl, Taki begins to sympathize with her and admire her for standing up to the criticism of society and the pressure of her father and her broken family. Taki also feels comfortable confiding anything to her. Okudera notes that Mitsuha is someone important to Taki by whom he has been changed.

Over time, Taki begins to develop feelings for Mitsuha. When it is brought up, Taki denies this with embarrassment by blushing, although his feelings for Mitsuha are very obvious. When he stops switching bodies with Mitsuha, he is determined to meet her in person because it redeems the impossibility of contacting her. However, when he learns the truth about her, Taki is absolutely devastated and finds himself in a state of despair and confusion. Although his memory of her slowly begins to fade, Taki never loses his strong desire to save Mitsuha, so he makes an effort to do so. Going to Miyamizu Shrine and drinking her kuchikamizake in hopes of reversing time to save her. When his plan succeeds and Taki wakes up in Mitsuha's body, he is so delighted that he starts to cry. Hoping to prevent the disaster and Mitsuha and the other residents from surviving, Taki tries to make a plan but does not seem to succeed. Taki believes that Mitsuha would be able to do it, which means that Taki completely believes in Mitsuha and her abilities.
When Taki finds out that Mitsuha had already gone to Tokyo to meet him, he is happy and very touched by her actions because she had come to meet him even though he didn't even know her at that time. He also remembers that Mitsuha had given him her braided cord (which connects them both by the red string of destiny), and he realizes that he had kept it as a good luck charm for three years.
When Taki and Mitsuha meet in person at Kataware-doki, they are both delighted and at the same time nervous. Because, at that time, their love feelings are mutual. They prove to be comfortable with each other as they were during the body change, but also nervous because they blush sometimes. Before they are separated due to their different timelines, Taki confesses to Mitsuha by writing that he loves her on his hand instead of writing his own name. Taki apparently did this because of the enormous likelihood that they would forget everything about each other. However, he would still be able to convey his love towards Mitsuha since no one could erase his feelings, and so Mitsuha would know that someone there loved her. When they parted ways, Taki commented that no matter where she was in the world, he would definitely go find her. However, he is devastated when he starts to forget about Mitsuha, because she had become so precious and dear to him. Despite this, Taki completely forgets everything about Mitsuha.
Over the next few years, he feels that he has forgotten someone important to him and is always unconsciously looking for someone. He occasionally glances at his palm where Mitsuha had written her incomplete message, and even though he doesn't remember anything about it, he knows that there are deep feelings behind it. When Okudera says that he would be happy one day, Taki looks at his hand; this means that the feeling behind the message is the source of Taki's happiness. When Taki and Mitsuha see each other, they instantly recognize each other although they don't say a word, and they also understand that they were still looking for each other. When they finally meet, they are both convinced that they know each other even though they have no memory of each other; and the relief of finally founding this precious person after so many years,
Because of their connection to the red string of fate, Taki and Mitsuha are lovers destined to meet, despite time, circumstance or place. It is therefore strongly implied that they will eventually get together. According to the light novel Tenki no Ko , Taki and Mitsuha are married by 2024.
