Appearance
Gyokko's appearance takes the form of a pale-white humanoid figure, abstract and grotesque, resembling an armless statue emerging from a porcelain jar, rather like a djinn.
Multiple childlike hands line his back. Gyokko's face is quite distorted. Large mouths with green lips replace the place where one would expect to see eyes, and his real eyes are located vertically in relation to each other on his face; one eye appears in the constantly open lower mouth and the other is in the center of his forehead. As the Superior Fifth Moon, the Kanji for High Rank (上弦 Jōgen ) is engraved on his frontal eye and the Kanji for Five (伍 Go?) is engraved on his mouth eye.

Personality
Gyokko is portrayed as short-tempered, superficial and arrogant, especially when it comes to matters concerning his "Art", as we saw when he easily lost his temper with Muichiro, who started insulting him and mocking the quality of his art. During his conversation with the pillar, he constantly congratulated himself on being "beautiful" and that his work was even more so, reinforcing his arrogant and narcissistic personality.
He was also incredibly petty and jealous, as seen when he attacked and mutilated Hotaru Haganezuka because he was jealous of the latter's concentration and dedication to his work, exceeding his own zeal when working on his own art and making him want to make the latter lose his concentration and time on the sword he was repairing because of this petty jealousy.
He is also shown to be incredibly morbid, as when Doma told him that he had placed a human head at the top of his pots like a plant, Gyokko immediately saw this as a greater inspiration for his "Art", The extent of this morbid and violent inspiration for his "Art" is even more evident when he brutally murders several blacksmiths and uses their corpses to create a "beautiful" piece by sewing their bodies together and stabbing several swords into it. This extreme sadism is even more evident when he incorporates the possibility that they might scream when a sword is thrust deeper into his "work of art", implying that they were still alive.
History
Past
Gyokko, then Managi, lived on the outskirts of a fishing village near the coast, and was not appreciated for repeatedly picking up fish carcasses and doing other strange things. He had lost his parents at an early age (they had gone fishing and never returned, their drowned bodies having been found badly damaged), so the villagers kept their distance, thinking he had lost his mind. It seems he was fascinated by the beauty of his parents' drowned bodies. Some time later, Gyokko killed a village child who had come to tease him and put the body in a jar. In a rage, the child's parents stabbed Gyokko with a two-pronged fishing fork. He was left there to die (half a day passed and he was still alive) and Muzan Kibutsuji happened to be passing by, so he turned Gyokko into a demon.
Red District Arch
Having been summoned to a meeting of the Higher Moons, Gyokko greeted Akaza, asking how he was after ninety years and barely concealing his disappointment that his colleague had survived all these years. The Potted Demon also greeted Doma, exchanging a few words about the pot he had given his High Rank colleague. Shortly afterwards, Gyokko listened to Muzan Kibutsuji inform the group of Gyutaro's death and reproach them for their uselessness. The High Rank informed his leader that he had information that would bring him closer to his objectives, but he had his head torn off because the information was not confirmed. He was then ordered to rejoin Hantengu once he had corrected his mistake, leaving him perplexed. The Potted Demon was then approached by Doma, who asked him what information he had and if he could accompany him, and was shocked when Akaza hit Doma's head from behind.
He then saw Kokushibo slice off Akaza's hand and then asked the Biwa Demon to transport him and Hantengu to their destination.
Arc du Village des Forgerons
In the blacksmith's village, Gyokko devoured a villager without any scruples and spat him out, declaring him inedible. He then remarked that the destruction of the blacksmith village would considerably weaken the demon slayers.
When Muichiro Tokito and two villagers arrived in the shed in search of a new sword, Gyokko ambushed them from a ceramic vase. He introduced himself and asked Muichiro if he'd like to see his art. He then presented "The Agony of the Blacksmiths", a morbid work consisting of several swordsmen's bodies sewn together with swords protruding from them.
Once attacked by Muichiro, he retreated into his ceramic vase and revealed that he can transport himself from vase to vase at will. He then explained that the vases are his pride and joy, and he becomes very upset when they are damaged. He then summoned numerous fish in a vase and used his Blood Power: Assassin Fish, a Thousand Needles to attack Muichiro, who let himself be hit. Gyokko wondered what technique he should use on Muichiro, but Tokito rebuked him and told him he was no good. Once again annoyed, he trapped Muichiro with his Blood Power: Infernal Water Basin, commenting that death by suffocation is "elegant and beautiful".
As Muichiro struggled to escape from the Infernal Water Basin, Gyokko returned to the shed. He entered and saw Hotaru Haganezuka working on the blade extracted from the training puppet. Hotaru didn't notice Gyokko's entrance behind him, which enraged Gyokko that another artist was more focused on his art than he was. He summoned a fish to attack Hotaru, shattering the swordsman's mask but not his concentration. Hotaru's devotion to the blade prompted Gyokko to force him to break his concentration rather than murder him outright.
Muichiro manages to escape from the Infernal Water Basin with Kotetsu's help, surprising Gyokko and causing him to unleash the Infernal Vase Octopus. Breath of Mist, Fifth Movement: Muichiro's Sea Mist hit Gyokko, who took refuge in his vase and reappeared in another. He chatted with Muichiro about the beauty of his vases, then became furious at an insult to them and unleashed his Blood Power: Cloud of Ten Thousand Clay Fish. After Muichiro deflected two of his attacks, Gyokko revealed his true form and became more serious about killing him. Gyokko's true form has the ability to turn anything he hits into a fish, and has increased speed and strength. So Muichiro used his Breath of Mist, Seventh Movement: Fog to decapitate Gyokko, killing him, much to his dismay.
Skills & Competencies
- General Abilities: As Upper Moon 5 of the Twelve Demonic Moons, Gyokko is a powerful demon with several unique fish-based powers and techniques revolving around his pots that enable him to easily outmaneuver average demons and give him the edge he needs to crush and kill the pillars of the Demon Slaying Corps, As can be seen, for most of his battle with the pillar of mist, Muichiro, he managed to gain an easy advantage over him and would probably have killed him had the latter not awakened his demon-slaying mark, recovered his original sun sword and received oxygen from Kotetsu.
- Immense Resistance: After molting, Gyokko's skin is covered with thick, hard scales that are extremely resistant and much harder than diamond, making him extremely strong.
- Overdeveloped speed and reflexes: Gyokko has demonstrated incredible speed and reflexes, as evidenced by the fact that he was able to easily dodge and prevent being decapitated by Muichiro Tokito, despite the latter's use of his mist breath to hinder and disorient Gyokko's senses. What's more, Gyoko is faster than Mitsuri, who easily dodged shockwaves and lightning. Since Mitsuri is the slowest pillar (in terms of running), we can assume that Gyoko moves 2 times faster than Mitsuri, i.e. 2 times faster than her maximum speed.
- Overdeveloped regeneration: As a Demon, he possesses powerful regeneration abilities that were further enhanced when he received more blood from Muzan. He was able to survive being decapitated by Muzan and then reattach his severed head with little difficulty. He also demonstrated his ability to quickly heal wounds inflicted by sun swords without difficulty.
- Talented artist: Due to his obsession with vases, he has become quite adept at painting and crafting them, so much so that Muzan Kibutsuji takes a keen interest in them and even sells them for a high price, implying that they have been made with astonishing skill and craftsmanship.
-
Unlimited vitality and stamina: Gyokko possesses absolute and infinite stamina and vitality, never tiring and always remaining in peak physical and mental condition, while being able to endure waves of assaults as if they were nothing.
Blood Power
-
Magic Vases: One of Gyokko's main abilities is his vases, which seem to materialize out of nothing at Gyokko's will, and he uses them for a variety of purposes.
- Handling aquatic creatures: He can also summon insensible, fish-like demons from his vases; although it's not clear whether he makes them inside the pots, or summons them from different locations. However, this is not limited to fish, as he can summon other creatures, such as the tentacles of an octopus made from his own cells. These invocations could be linked to the demonic creatures at Muzan's base. After summoning these grotesque fish-like demons, he can freely manipulate them to consume humans to increase his strength or to attack his enemies.
- Cell manipulation: Gyokko has demonstrated his ability to manipulate the cells of those he has trapped in his pots, as he showed when he mutilated the blacksmiths he had trapped and fused them together. He has used this ability to mold his fish-like demons to different sizes and make them possess various unique properties. He can also use this ability on himself, when he has changed his appearance or created tentacles from his flesh.
- Water manipulation: Using his vases, Gyokko can create and manipulate water to trap his opponents and suffocate them to death, or use water as a support so that his fish demons can move easily.
- Teleportation: Gyokko can teleport freely from one vase to another instantly.
-
Molt: In an emergency, Gyokko can molt to change his appearance. Once his appearance has been modified, Gyokko becomes much stronger. His body is covered with transparent scales, harder than diamonds, which have been kneaded together inside his pot. Only three people have ever seen Gyokko in this state. Anything he touches with his fists is transformed into friendly little fish. His appearance and strength change after molting, and is similar to the Spider Demon Father's ability to metamorphose.
- Fishman Phsyiology: After molting, Gyokko's physical abilities soar, making him even more powerful and deadly. It also removes the limitations that immobilized him, allowing him to move at subsonic speeds while being able to summon fish-like demons from his fists.
- Transmutation into fish: In this form, everything Gyokko touches is transformed into the fish he has created in his vases, making him extremely deadly.
Fighting Style
Techniques
- Assassin Fish, A Thousand Needles(千本針魚殺 Senbonbari Giyosatsu ): Gyokko emits floating demon fish from his pots that spit out poisoned needles; the poison contains paralyzing properties that immobilize the target.
- Infernal Vase Octopus (蛸壼地獄 Takotsubo Jigoku ): Gyokko creates giant octopus-like tentacles from his pots, which he uses to destroy his surroundings.
- Infernal Water Basin (水獄鉢 Suigokubachi ): Gyokko creates a slime-like structure made of water that traps the target; the water suffocates it and prevents it from using the breath, making it difficult to free and escape.
- Swarm of Ten Thousand Clay Fish (一万滑空粘魚 Ichiman Kakkūnengyo ): Gyokko creates fish-like demons from his pots that feed on the flesh of his enemies; even if the opponent cuts these fish, they spill a poisonous liquid before the sun's blade can reduce them to dust. The poison is also percutaneous, meaning it can be absorbed through the skin.
- Deadly Scales of War (陣殺魚鱗 Jinsatsu Gyorin): Gyokko's ultimate technique. He claims that the scales covering him give him a free existence, allowing his attacks to become unpredictable.
