Shonen series have a flair for spectacular, high-octane battles that can have anyone cheering for the hero, terrified of the villain and weeping at the result. The art of the fight scene is special in anime, as it shows the exact design trait that makes the creator special. One of the greatest shonen series to master the art of the fight scene is Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter .
Having already won acclaim for Yu Yu Hakusho , Togashi really gets the audience on board with Hunter x Hunter . The series features a fully realized power system, as well as profound ethical and intellectual analyses of the characters. 6/ Gon Vs. Hisoka
Gon's fight against Hisoka at Heaven's Arena is a tribute to small victories. Gon has trained extremely hard just to throw a punch at Hisoka, while the latter simply lies back in silent anticipation of Gon's inevitable growth. While this fight is a powerful spectacle in its own right, its main purpose is to show the seemingly insurmountable gulf between the two fighters.
Gon displays a range of new abilities as he aims to surprise Hisoka, who turns the battle into a learning experience as he plays with Gon. It's an incredible demonstration of character and difference in power, proving that even great leaps in strength are ultimately only small steps in this series.
5/ Kurapika Vs. Uvôguine

Kurapika's main motivation throughout the series revolved around hunting down the Phantom Troop, in his bid for revenge for the massacre of the Kurta clan. The troop itself had been portrayed as a very dangerous and overly cruel force of nature, so Kurapika had to play his cards wisely.
Unlike Gon's development in his battle with Hisoka, Kurapika's fight highlighted his limits and determined how much he was willing to sacrifice to achieve his goal. The result of this unwavering perseverance was a brutal battle that showcased Kurapika's Nen abilities, ultimately defeating and killing Uvogin.
4/ Greed Island dodgeball match
The Greed Island arc was an opportunity to organically build a training arc for Gon and Killua. The culmination of these efforts, as well as everything fans have learned about Nen so far, manifested itself at this point. Gon, Biscuit, Killua and Hisoka formed an unlikely alliance to defeat Razor.
Razor and his team of 14 Devils would easily have won the match were it not for Gon and Killua working in perfect harmony with Hisoka. This battle has no serious consequences, although Gon may not have been able to conquer Greed Island without securing a decisive victory over Razor.
3/ Gon Vs. Neferpitou

This scene is not so much a fight as a one-way massacre. Having received a false glimmer of hope from Neferpitou, Gon had sought to save Kite throughout the Chimera Ant arc. When he discovered that Kite was already dead, something inside him snapped.
Gon made a Nen vow, sacrificing most of his life aura in exchange for incomprehensible power. Neferpitou tried to take advantage of his confusion for a sneak attack, but Gon crushed it effortlessly before pulverizing his body. Adult Gon could well be one of the strongest characters in Hunter x Hunter.
2/ President Netero Vs. Meruem

Arguably the biggest scene in the Chimera Ant arc was the rollercoaster of strength and strategy that was Netero versus Meruem. Meruem is the king of the Chimera Ants, a bizarre entity born with hyperbolic levels of power and mental aptitude. To stop him, the Hunter Association was forced to send in its strongest and most experienced fighter, Isaac Netero.
What followed was a fantastic battle of wits and deadly blows, as neither competitor showed any sign of letting up, or even slowing down for that matter. Meruem was hit in every pillar of the area but failed to dissuade Netero's type 100 Guanyin Bodhisattva until the very end. Netero ended the fight by triggering the nuclear bomb in his heart, but Meruem managed to survive even this attack.
1/ Hisoka Vs. Chrollo Lucifer
Unfortunately, one of Hunter x Hunter's best battles has yet to make its anime debut. Chrollo Lucifer reluctantly accepts Hisoka's request for a one-on-one duel, which takes place in the Heavens Arena. Not wanting to be restricted by rules of any kind, Chrollo and Hisoka agreed to make it a fight to the death.
Innocent people who paid money to see this fight were subjected to mind control, explosions and the involuntary subtraction of limbs, as the two ruthless fighters used their full arsenal to kill. Chrollo wins in the end, but Hisoka manages to survive the confrontation by pretending to be dead.
