Aoi Todo is a senior at Kyoto's exorcism school. He's a big Takada fan and considers himself Yuji Itadori's best friend.

Aoi is a very muscular young man, but also very tall. He has black hair, always tied back in a ponytail, and small black eyes. He has a large scar on the left side of his face, running across his eye.
Aoi's school uniform usually consists of a short black jacket under which he wears a purple t-shirt, baggy pants of the same color and martial arts shoes. When fighting, Aoi tends to be topless.
As a child, Aoi's hair was notably shaved.
During the Shibuya Drama, Aoi is seen with a pendant around her neck containing a photo of Takada and Yuji. During his fight against Mahito, Aoi loses his left hand by cutting it off himself when the scourge affects him with its spell.
Aoi is an extremely eccentric individual who seems to love nothing more than fighting. He likes to pose, show off his muscles and loves the thrill of combat.
As a child, Aoi was extremely strong and his life became mundane due to his overwhelming strength for his age. By becoming an exorcist, Aoi has assuaged his boredom and is irritated by anyone or anything that might bring him back to this boring state of life. For example, when he met Megumi Fushiguro, Aoi attacked him because he considered him a boring person. It's also because Aoi hates boring things in life that he feared his last tournament would go off without a hitch due to Yuta Okkotsu's absence.
To find out if a person is annoying him, Aoi will ask him what kind of girls he likes. His behavior towards the person varies enormously depending on the answer: while he's very friendly towards Yuji Itadori, who has the same tastes as him, he violently attacked Megumi, who said she preferred character to looks.
While mentoring Yuji during the Twin High School Tournament, Aoi showed a much more intelligent and even philosophical side to himself. Aoi showed Yuji how to properly focus his occult energy by controlling his emotions.
Aoi is known among his peers for being extremely strong, but also irritating because of his eccentric attitude. In fact, most of his classmates seem to dislike Aoi, as most students in Tokyo and Kyoto praised Maki for throwing the ball into Aoi's face during the baseball game.
Past
When he was in CE2, Aoi met Yuki Tsukumo, who had just had a fight with a high-school student who was trying to extort money from him. Asking her what type of woman she was, Yuki introduced Aoi to the world of exorcism.
During the Parade of Scourges, a terrorist attack perpetrated by Suguru Geto in Shinjuku and Kyoto, Aoi eliminated five Class 1 scourges and one Class S scourge. During these battles, he used his spell only against the S-class. His exploits during the attack spread through the community, with rumors appearing that Aoi didn't use his spell.
Arc Birth of the Matrix
Aoi and Mai Zenin come to the Tokyo exorcism school with Kyoto school principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji for the Twin High School Tournament. Aoi confronts Megumi Fushiguro and asks what kind of girl she is. As Megumi wonders why he should answer, Aoi introduces himself fully and explains why he's asking the question. When Megumi gives Aoi her answer, Aoi says he's boring and attacks her. When Megumi brings up the fact that Aoi never uses his spell, Aoi corrects Megumi and tells her that he reserves it for S class, which makes Megumi think even more that Aoi is a monster.
As Megumi prepares to fight Aoi, the latter easily closes the distance between him and Megumi, then knocks him to the ground. When Megumi tries to escape, Aoi grabs Megumi and pulls him through a building. Aoi is suddenly restrained by Megumi's familiar, so he tells her that he's making it look as if he doesn't feel like fighting. When Megumi decides to go for it, Toge Inumaki and Panda arrive and arrest Aoi. He then starts a discussion with Toge, and Aoi decides to stop fighting and leave.
Aoi then joins Mai, and tells her they're leaving. Mai protests that she's not finished with Nobara Kugisaki and Maki Zenin. They then leave for a Takada meeting. At the meeting, Aoi manages to shake Takada's hand.
Arc Tournoi
A month later, Aoi arrives in Tokyo with the other students and staff from Kyoto for the Twin High School Tournament. Aoi is there when Satoru Gojo reveals to everyone that Yuji Itadori is still alive, and he receives a souvenir of Satoru's trip. Aoi later attends the meeting to prepare for the tournament with the whole Kyoto team, but gets upset when the provieur Yoshinobu asks them to kill Yuji. Aoi tries to leave, and when Noritoshi stops him, he threatens to kill them all.
When the tournament begins, Yuji travels with the other students of the Tokyo school until they meet Aoi. Aoi starts fighting Yuji, while the other students scatter into groups. Aoi manages to overwhelm Yuji with blows, but when he starts to leave because he thinks he's won, Yuji stands up and complains that Aoi stomped on his head. Aoi is delighted when he stands up and asks Yuji what kind of girl he is. Yuji's answer pleases Aoi, so Aoi cries with joy and starts fantasizing about a school life where he and Yuji are best friends. Yuji is attacked by the other Kyoto students and manages to evade most of their attacks, but suddenly finds himself cornered.
Aoi uses her Boogie Woogie spell on Yuji and forces the Kyoto students to retreat. Yuji and Aoi continue their fight, and Aoi notices that Yuji has great stamina, knows how to use the terrain to his advantage, is fast and has more raw power than he does. Aoi also picks up on Yuji's Interval Technique and considers it a lapse in taste. Aoi and Yuji then continue to fight, and Aoi tells Yuji that if he wants to become stronger, he'll have to get rid of this technique, with which Yuji agrees. Aoi notes that Yuji continues to make progress as the fight goes on. He then explains how occult energy circulates in the body, which Yuji manages to understand. The two continue to fight, and Aoi decides to help Yuji grow stronger.
When intruders invade the tournament, Yuji notices that a curtain has been placed over the event site. Later, Yuji and Aoi come to Megumi and Maki's rescue. After handing Megumi and Maki over to Panda to get them out of the curtain, Yuji faces Hanami alone. As Yuji confronts the scourge, he prepares to launch a Black Ray but misses because of the anger he felt at the time. Aoi then slaps Yuji and explains how anger can both help and hinder a fight. Yuji then continues to fight Hanami, and manages to launch a Black Ray at Hanami. After this, Yuji listens to Aoi's explanation of the use of occult energy.
Yuji and Aoi then start fighting Hanami together, and manage to attack and escape Hanami. After understanding what Hanami is capable of, Aoi begins to use her spell and the two manage to overwhelm Hanami with attacks. At one point, Aoi uses her technique to exchange Yuji with Floating Cloud, a cursed S-class object capable of harming Hanami, then Yuji returns to the fight, but it's then that Satoru suddenly breaks through the curtain. As Hanami tries to escape, Yuji goes to stop him, but Aoi stops him and explains how strong Satoru's technique is.
Once the intruders have been subdued, Aoi continues to pursue Yuji, as he considers him his best friend. On the second day of the event, Aoi attends a meeting with the other students and instructors to find out if they want to continue the tournament. Aoi convinces everyone to continue the tournament, and it's decided that the last event of the competition will be a baseball game. As he's just chatting with Yuji during the game, Maki intentionally throws a ball into his head, and everyone congratulates him. Once the game and the tournament are over, Aoi returns to Kyoto with the other students and staff.
Instinct Grégaire bow
Mei Mei and Aoi meet with Principal Yoshinobu to promote Maki, Megumi, Nobara, Panda and Yuji to Class 1 exorcists. Later, Aoi plays a game of table tennis with Mei. As Aoi explains how he will be able to join Yuji on his mission, Mei tells Aoi that the person who recommended a candidate cannot accompany that same candidate on a mission. After telling Aoi this, Mei leaves.
Arc Shibuya drama
As Mahito is about to execute Yuji, Aoi appears just in time to save him by using her spell to swap places with Mahito. After a short confrontation between Aoi and Mahito, Yuji tells Aoi about the events in Shibuya, including Ryomen Sukuna's rampage, Kento Nanami's death and Nobara's serious injuries, overwhelmed with despair at his inability to stop these events.
Aoi refutes Yuji's speech, telling him to accept that an exorcist's path cannot be interrupted by feelings of guilt or sadness and to keep moving forward to honor the memories of those who have passed on. Continuing the battle with Mahito, Aoi uses Boogie Woogie to evade Mahito's multiple attempts to use Absolute Alteration, as well as to avoid Mahito's altered humans. As the Scourge launches another attack, Todo uses Boogie Woogie to swap places with himself and Yuji, allowing Yuji to hit Mahito with a Black Ray. With Yuji now ready to fight once more, Aoi welcomes him to the battle and quickly rips off his shirt.
While he and Yuji are fighting Mahito, Aoi swaps places with one of Mahito's altered humans and unleashes a Black Ray on the latter with his foot, though the scourge manages to shake it off. Mahito then disgorges the altered humans inside him, fuses them and unleashes them on his opponents, causing Aoi and Yuji to be expelled.
Aoi is forced to fight Mahito's Isomeric Souls. Nevertheless, he manages to defeat them without too much difficulty and joins Yuji and Mahito. Cornered, Mahito decides to use Orb of Isolation, his Territory Extension, for 0.2 seconds, and to protect himself, Aoi in turn decides to deploy a Simple Territory. Unfortunately, Aoi is still hit by Mahito's spell and slices off his left hand before the scourge technique can spread. On top of this, the exorcist is hit by a Black Ray. Nevertheless, he manages to touch Mahito's hand to activate his spell and swap places with Yuji, who shoots him a Black Ray.
The fight goes on and Aoi gets up and tries to use his power with his severed hand, but his spell doesn't activate, and manages to distract Mahito, allowing Yuji to hit him with a Black Ray.
Earlier, we learn that Aoi had preferred to save his allies such as Yuji rather than Satoru. He then tells Arata Nitta to hurry and find Yuji.
Skills and competencies
Aoi is an exceptionally powerful exorcist, undoubtedly one of the strongest students of exorcism schools. He is a class 1 exorcist, even though he is not descended from an exorcist family. Aoi has single-handedly defeated five class 1 cursed spirits and one class S, and used his spell only to defeat class S during Suguru Geto's attack on Shinjuku and Kyoto called the Parade of Plagues.
Aoi's physical strength surpasses that of Maki Zenin and Panda, rivaling Yuji's prowess. Using her brute strength and martial arts, Aoi easily overpowered Megumi and Yuji in the early stages of their fight.
Physical Abilities
Against most of his opponents, Aoi is more than capable of relying on his raw physique to win fights. A single strike against Megumi knocked him back several meters. In particular, he can quickly deliver powerful blows, stomps and duplexes, all in succession. A strike infused with Aoi's occult energy was able to completely obliterate a lower-level scourge while damaging Yuji, his target before the spirit suddenly inhibited his punch. Alongside the increased punches delivered to Yuji, Aoi was able to break Hanami's guard hard enough for the S-class to recognize the weight of the blow.
What's more, Aoi possesses extreme speed. He incorporates his frightening speed into his fighting style by continuously striking in rapid succession before his opponents can react. He swept aside all Megumi's defenses in their fight and delivered blow after blow to subdue him. At the very start of the Twin High School Tournament, it took Aoi just seconds to reach the opposing team. He was even able to surprise Yuji with his speed and momentarily dominate him with pure physical prowess. Aoi's speed also enables him to move unpredictably when he uses his spell, as demonstrated in the fight against Hanami.
Hand-to-hand
Aoi prefers close combat to anything else, generally relying on brute force to defeat his opponents rather than Exorcism. He completely outclassed Megumi in the exchange of blows, easily able to outwit and brutalize the latter. Even against Yuji, who is extremely talented in hand-to-hand combat, Aoi was able to dominate him effortlessly in the early stages of their fight. Even as their fight continued and Yuji began to adapt to Aoi's movements, the latter was still able to surprise Yuji and stay one step ahead thanks to his combat experience.
He usually uses a mixture of direct, crushing blows such as punches, forearm strikes, stomping and other brutal strikes. This type of combat was effective against Hanami, mainly when used in conjunction with his spell.
Exorcism
Aoi has a very good understanding of occult energy. He can strengthen his blows enough to exorcise plagues with a single punch. Aoi can also apply a coating of occult energy to his body to protect himself from attacks. He possesses an innate technique that he can use repeatedly without depleting his reserves of occult energy.
Boogie Woogie
Boogie Woogie (Bugi Ugi) is Aoi's innate technique, enabling him to switch the place of anything possessing occult energy with something else simply by clapping his hands, or those of his opponent.
Autres techniquesNew Shadow School, Simple Territory, Shin Kage-ryū: Kan'i Ryōiki): This is a technique for defending against territories, neutralizing the unstoppable dimension of associated spells. Aoi learned this technique from Yuki Tsukumo.
Black Ray experiment
Aoi has already experienced the Black Ray (Kokusen), a spatial distortion caused by a 0.000001-second time lag between the impact of occult energy and the blow delivered. The exorcist's strength is multiplied by itself 2.5 times. At the precise moment when the impact of the energy is offset by one millionth of a second from the blow delivered, space is twisted and the occult energy darkens.
Despite appearances, Aoi is highly intelligent; claiming to have an IQ of 530,000. Using his own experience and deep understanding of exorcism, he was able to train Yuji to deal with an S-class plague. Aoi even has a deeper philosophical side that was able to help Yuji understand the essence of occult energy. What's more, his speed of thought is unrivalled, able to review all of Hanami's movements in just 0.01 seconds and accurately determine the right way to defend against his attacks.
