Take a look at how the Demon Slayer Corps system ranks its members, and how Tanjiro and his friends have progressed since their debut.
Tanjiro Kamado has been on the front line for much of Demon Slayer. Since joining the Demon Slayer Corps, he's taken on all sorts of powerful demons, including members of the Twelve Kizuki. Looks like he's overdue for a promotion of some kind. It turns out that Tanjiro has received a few promotions during his service. However, to say that Tanjiro has become a Kanoe doesn't mean much in itself.

The Corps' ranks and functions are fairly straightforward. They determine how much a Demon Slayer earns, the difficulty of his missions and with whom he will be associated. A Demon Slayer will move steadily up the ranks as he kills demons and completes missions. Future Demon Slayers get their first job after passing the Corps' entrance exam, the final selection. Candidates must survive a week in the demon-infested woods of Mount Fujikasane. If they pass, they will begin their service at the foot of the proverbial totem pole as Mizunoto.
Demon Slayer ranks are named after celestial stems
There are ten ranks in the Demon Slayer Corps. Starting with Mizunoto (癸), the ranks are Mizunoe (壬), Kanoto (辛), Kanoe (庚), Tsuchinoto (己), Tsuchinoe (戊), Hinoto (丁), Hinoe (丙), Kinoto (乙). Hinoto (丁), Hinoto (丙), Kinoto (乙) and Kinoe (甲); these ranks are named after celestial stems, for what that information is worth. Collectively, they represent the middle ranks that most demon slayers can hope to climb in their lifetime.
Hashira, the pinnacle of Corps strength, is a level above even Kinoe. To qualify for this prestigious title, a Demon Slayer must reach the rank of Kinoe and kill either 50 demons or a member of the Twelve Kizuki. Hashira have special privileges within the Corps, and are even allowed to ask for large sums of money if they need it. They answer only to members of the Ubayashiki family, namely Kagaya.

Of the nine active Hashira featured so far in the series, Tanjiro has known four; Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, Kyojuro Rengoku and Tengen Uzui. He met the rest of the Hashira as they were deciding what to do with him and his sister, but he hadn't got to know them. He should be officially introduced to Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji in the next adaptation of Swordsmith Village Arc. As for the three remaining Hashira, he'll probably find them in due course.

Tanjiro's current demon slayer rank is Kanoe
Few of the Demon Slayers' ranks are known from season 2, but there are a few. Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke moved from Mizunoto to Kanoe because of their exploits. Murata, the Demon Slayer, who was almost digested on Mount Nagumo, is also a Kanoe. Kanao Tsuyuri, Shinobu's adopted younger sister, stands above the four Tsuchinoto boys; she is also a Tsuguko, which means she should one day succeed her sister Hashira. All this was covered in season 2, episode 11, "Tonight".

As things stand, Tanjiro is slowly but surely working his way up the ranks. If the Demon Corps are smart, they'll take proper account of Tanjiro's ability to take on the Twelve Kizuki; his role in defeating a higher rank for the first time in over 100 years should be taken into account. He's much better at his job than his rank suggests.
Does Tanjiro's demon slayer ranking really matter at this stage?
Like other shonen action series before it, such as Naruto , the Demon Slayer anime endeavored to use numbers and ranks to quantify the fighting system and make it more coherent. Just as Naruto had genin, chunin and jonin, as well as ranks for jutsu and missions ranging from D to S, the Demon Slayer anime used the ten main demon slayer ranks to make everything seem more regimented. Then, it completed these ten ranks with the Hashira, probably to emulate the 13 Soul Reaper Captains from Bleach , an anime that helped inspire Demon Slayer . At first, this looked like standard procedure and gave Tanjiro a ladder to climb to measure his progress, but soon Demon Slayer's story became too big for its own system. By the end of season 3, after two more upper moons had fallen to Tanjiro's team, the Demon Slayer body ranking system looked like a mere formality and then some.
It wasn't bad for Demon Slayer to introduce the ten ranks, as it contributed a little to world-building and made sense for a shonen action anime like this. Yet Tanjiro's trio never really aimed to climb those ranks, and their increase in power made that irrelevant. Tanjiro underwent rigorous training and learned even more by fighting enemies like Daki, Gyutaro and Hantengu, including unlocking Hinokami Kagura, his best move to date in the anime Demon Slayer . Tanjiro is no ordinary soldier - as the shonen's protagonist, he follows his own heroic trajectory that few other members of the Demon Slayer corps could emulate. The plot itself exempted Tanjiro from worrying about the ten ranks of Demon Slayer.

Instead, Tanjiro's growth is best measured by his victories against high-ranking demons and his network of alliances and friendships, such as gaining influence over Muichiro Tokito, earning the respect of Tengen Uzui and impressing Mitsuri Kanroji the Hashira love. This is the criterion that really counts in measuring Tanjiro's progress, as well as his fighting record. He's gone from fighting lower Moon demons to fighting higher Moons and winning, and there's no rank for that. What's more, Demon Slayer's relatively short anime doesn't even have time for these ranks, as Tanjiro has his sights set on his real goal: defeating Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon king, to save Nezuko, regardless of rank.
