Ranking of Orochimaru's Best Fights in Naruto!

Orochimaru was a legendary Sannin and one of Naruto's most important villains. He demonstrated his power in many great battles.

Orochimaru was a member of the legendary Sannin and the first true villain of the Naruto universe. His perverse love of the forbidden led him to drastic extents, including child abduction, human sacrifice and even the organization of a war between the Leaf and Sand villages. Most notably, the villain was responsible for corrupting Sasuke Uchiha.

Throughout the series, Orochimaru had many opportunities to demonstrate his skills as a ruthless and capable shinobi. By identifying his greatest battles and their outcomes, we can better appreciate the lasting impact the fallen Sannin had on the anime.

5/ Orochimaru vs Team Seven in the Forest of Death

Orochimaru took part in the Chunin exams as a modest candidate. Since his jutsu eclipsed that of the proctors, he managed to slip through their fingers and enter the Forest of Death unhindered.

After Kabuto informed him of Sasuke's presence, he immediately became intrigued. As one of the last living sharingan users, Orochimaru foresaw that Sasuke would make an excellent vessel since his current body was close to its three-year limit. Without Kakashi to defend them, Team Seven was unprepared for the fallen Sannin's attack.

Unsurprisingly, Team Seven was totally unprepared to defeat Orochimaru. Sasuke had yet to unlock any of his sharing abilities, Naruto had failed to exploit Kurama and Sakura had no exceptional jutsu to speak of.

Before Orochimaru left, he gave Sasuke a curse mark that would greatly increase his power. However, it also corrupted his mind and judgment, as evidenced by his later interaction with Team Dosu. Kakashi warned Sasuke of excessive use of the forbidden power, but his warnings ultimately fell on deaf ears.

4/ Orochimaru betrayed Itachi and tried to kill him

Although Orochimaru was briefly a member of Akatsuki, he never identified with the organization's mission. Instead, he saw it as a network to get close to powerful new ships. The Sannin was particularly obsessed with Itachi Uchiha.

After isolating Itachi from his comrades, Orochimaru bound him with an elongated python arm. The genjutsu user would have earned an even higher price than his brother, given that he was older and his sharingan more advanced. With the element of surprise on his side, the odds were in Orochimaru's favor.

While Orochimaru may have ambushed Itachi, his attempt to bind him comically failed. After throwing a genjutsu at the Sannin, Itachi easily slipped from his grasp and prepared for a fair fight.

As Orochimaru was still recovering from his battle with Hiruzen Sarutobi, he couldn't use his arms to defend himself. Fortunately for him, Kabuto entered the fray and used paper bombs so that his master could escape. Nevertheless, Orochimaru's betrayal of Itachi marked the end of his tenure as a member of Akatsuki and made him one of the organization's targets.

3/ Orochimaru fought Jiraya, Tsunade and Naruto alongside Kabuto

With his body in rapid decline, Orochimaru asked Tsunade to heal his arms so that he would have more time to prepare another ship. He tried to persuade her by offering to resurrect his fallen partner using Edo Tensei.

Although Tsunade considered his deal, she ultimately refused. Having been personally insulted and unwilling to let such a talented healer fall into enemy hands, Orochimaru and Kabuto prepared to attack her. Fortunately, Jiraiya was ready to enter the fray on behalf of the Fifth Hokage.

Although Orochimaru's plethora of forbidden jutsu gave him a huge advantage, he was unable to defeat his former comrades. Not only was he outnumbered, but the loss of his arms limited his combat effectiveness.

Kabuto managed to survive one of Naruto's rasengans and almost finished him off before Tsunade intervened. When his master's fortunes deteriorated, he returned to his side and helped him escape. As aggressively as the villains fought, they ultimately had nothing to show for the battle and only reaffirmed that Tsunade would make a worthy next Hokage.

2/ Naruto forced Orochimaru to retreat

After the time jump, Kabuto was ambushed by Yamato, Sakura and Naruto. Together, they sought to recover Sasuke and finally bring him back to the village so he could answer for his defection.

However, Orochimaru would not let his apprentice down so easily. He quickly joined the battle and began a brutal revenge with Naruto. The Sannin intended to assess how far his opponent had come since the Forest of Death, and the true strength behind Kurama's chakra.

Regardless of the number of snakes he managed to unleash, Orochimaru was ultimately no match for Naruto. He withdrew at the first possible opportunity, having tasted the Jinchuriki's power first-hand.

Unfortunately, Naruto found it much easier to enter his incomplete Kurama state than to leave it. As a result, he flew into a rage and could have injured Sakura if Yamato hadn't been there to stop him. In the end, the after-effects of Naruto's fight with the Sannin showed that he still had progress to make even after training with Jiraya.

1/  Orochimaru killed Hiruzen, but at great cost

During Chunin's exams, Orochimaru pretended to be the Kazekage in order to get closer to Hiruzen. Before the battle between Sasuke and Gaara could end, he asked Kabuto to unleash a genjutsu on the public and attempted to assassinate his former mentor.

Their battle quickly spread to the rooftops of Konoha, where the Sound Four awaited them. Together, the henchmen created an impregnable energy barrier that prevented the Leaf from helping its leader. Hiruzen was forced to confront Orochimaru and the Edo Tensei slaves he had prepared with only Enma to help him.

After realizing he wasn't going to defeat Orochimaru fairly, Hiruzen performed his own forbidden jutsu: the Reaper Death Seal. This allowed him to remove his target's soul at the expense of his own.

Using shadow clones, he succeeded in overpowering Hashirama and Tobirama. However, Hiruzen no longer had enough strength to completely remove Orochimaru's soul, especially as the villain kept thrusting a sword through his body. In the end, he only managed to destroy his former pupil's arms. Though far from ideal, Hiruzen's final act of sacrifice put a definitive end to Orochimaru's invasion.
