The Poneglyphs are difficult to obtain and even harder to read, but the pirates of the New World must find them if they are to find the One Piece.
Grand Line, as well as the wider world of One Piece , harbors a variety of hidden treasures, but none so rare and sought-after as the Poneglyphs. These ancient manuscripts are historical documents and instructions created by the ancient inhabitants of the Wano country and, when combined, provide the location of One Piece, as well as the true history of the empty century itself.
In all, there are 30 Poneglyphs in the One Piece world, although only 14 have appeared in the series to date. Four of these combine to form the Road Poneglyph, which describes the location of Laugh Tale, and a further nine combine to form the Rio Poneglyph, which tells the true story of the world. Other poneglyphs perform a variety of tasks, but whatever their purpose, each is an important part of the One Piece story.

The Ohara poneglyph
Rio Ponéglyphe
In the eyes of the World Government, there is no task more important than hiding the truth behind the Empty Century. The scholars of Ohara sacrificed their entire civilization to discover this truth. Although they were unable to pass on their research to the rest of the world, they finally learned the secrets of the Void Century thanks to the presence of the Ohara Poneglyph.
Buried deep beneath the Tree of Knowledge lies the Poneglyph of Ohara, and written on its surface is information directly linked to the origins of the World Government. The name of the Great Kingdom, a civilization that developed and disappeared during the Empty Century, is even transcribed on the Poneglyph. This makes it one of the most historically significant objects in the world of One Piece. Unfortunately, the world government's Buster Call demolished the island, presumably burying the Ohara Poneglyph for the rest of time.
The Zou Poneglyph
Road Poneglyphe
Given Zunesha's age, it's no surprise that the centuries-old beast is home to one of One Piece's many poneglyphs. However, Zou's poneglyph is even more important than most, as it is a road poneglyph - one of four poneglyphs that, when combined, provide the location for Laugh Tale.
Although Zou's Poneglyph was hidden in the Whale Tree, the Straw Hat Pirates found it with the help of Nekomamushi and his allies. As One Piece prepares for its final saga, the information gained from the discovery of the Road Poneglyph will prove to be a vital asset.
The unknown pongeglyph of West Blue
Unknown purpose
Because of her ability to decipher poneglyphs, Nico Robin spent two decades trying to evade the Marines and the world government. While hiding out on an unknown island in West Blue during her youth, she came across a poneglyph abandoned deep in the woods.
The location of this poneglyph, its contents and its purpose are all unknown at this stage of the One Piece story. However, as we saw in her brief appearance, Robin deciphered it before leaving the island. Since she has yet to mention the Poneglyph after its revelation, fans can only hope that it will play a role later in the series.
The poneglyph of the Alabasta kingdom
Rio Poneglyphe
The poneglyphs are first mentioned during the Arc of Alabasta when it is revealed that Crocodile's interest in the Alabasta kingdom is largely linked to their possession of one of the ancient artifacts. Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates fight the Sea Warlord tooth and nail, and in the end succeed in defeating him and burying the Poneglyph he was after.
The Alabasta Kingdom Poneglyph housed the location of the Ancient Weapon Pluto, making it one of the most dangerous artifacts in the entirety of One Piece . Although it has since been confirmed that Pluto slept beneath the Wano country, it's still preferable that Luffy and Crocodile's battle resulted in its burial deep within Alabasta's Tomb of the Kings.
The poneglyph of Whole Cake Island
Road Ponéglyphe
Discover our Nico Robin figure |
Although the main reason for the Straw Hat Pirates' trip to Whole Cake Island is to retrieve Sanji, their visit has multiple benefits. Monkey D. Luffy becomes significantly stronger thanks to his fight with Charlotte Katakuri, the Straw Hat Pirates gain notoriety thanks to their confrontation with Big Mom and, most importantly, Brook has copied the contents of his Road Poneglyph.
Although we still don't know how Charlotte Linlin found this object, it's certain to play a major role in the final saga of One Piece . Combined with the other three Road Poneglyphs, the Whole Cake Island Poneglyph creates a foolproof path to Laugh Tale, the location of the legendary One Piece.
The two unknown poneglyphs of Totto Land
After Brook revealed that he had transcribed the Big Mom's Road Poneglyph, many One Piece fans quickly forget that he also copied two other poneglyphs that were in his possession. The content of these two Poneglyphs still remains a mystery, but that doesn't mean their relationship to the series' story is totally unknown.
One of these two Poneglyphs was acquired by Jinbe while he was still captain of the Sun Pirates. Shortly after recovering it, he delivered it to Big Mom's Pirates. Although the origin of the other unknown Poneglyphs has yet to be revealed, the fact that they are in the possession of the Straw Hat Pirates almost guarantees that they will be mentioned again in the final saga.
The unknown poneglyph of Orochi Castle
Discover our Road Poneglyph figure |
Wano's history is as deep as almost any place in One Piece , making it a natural home for historical artifacts such as poneglyphs and ancient weapons. Kozuki Oden's father, Kozuki Sukiyaki, carries many of the secrets of his culture. Deep within Orochi Castle, he hid one of the Wano ponegyphs.
During the Arc of Wano Land, Brook's spirit briefly leaves his body, enabling him to travel unhindered through Orochi Castle. In his basement, he finds Sukiyaki's hidden poneglyph before returning with news to Nico Robin. Its contents are unknown, but given its appearance, it doesn't fall into the Road Poneglyph category.
The poneglyph of the Isle of Fishmen
Joy Boy's relevance to One Piece's narrative has continued to grow throughout each arc after the ellipse, starting with its introduction during the Fish-Man Island arc. In the island's marine forest, the Straw Hat Pirates discover a poneglyph very different from any previously discovered.
Rather than providing a story or clues to the location of Laugh Tale, the Fish-Man Island poneglyph reads like a letter of apology written directly by the legendary Joy Boy. In the letter, he apologizes for not helping the Fishmen lift their ship, Noah, and ascend to the world above the sea, giving the public a rare glimpse of the enigmatic character's impact.
The poneglyph of Wano country
Wano country may be tired of outsiders, but after the raid on Onigashima, there was no doubt that the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies were acting in the island's best interests. As a result, Nico Robin and Trafalgar D. Water Law received what is arguably the Wano's greatest secret: the contents of their Road Poneglyph.
Kozuki Sukiyaki allows Robin and Law to see this poneglyph after saving his people. He also confirms that the Ancient Weapon Pluto is still in the ruins of Old Wano. This information is crucial to both the Heart Pirates' and Straw Hat Pirates' quest to reach Laugh Tale, as well as to Monkey D. Luffy's goal of becoming the next Pirate King.
The unknown poneglyph of the blue sea
Discover our Alarm clock of Nico Robin |
Some poneglyphs are better understood than others, but when it comes to the unknown blue sea poneglyph, the artifact couldn't be more shrouded in mystery. So far, the only known information about this poneglyph is the fact that Roger's pirates, including Kozuki Oden, discovered it on the last leg of Gol D.'s voyage. Roger's journey.
The Roger Pirates are the most widely-traveled pirate crew in the history of One Piece, so it's virtually impossible to identify specific places where this ponyglyph might have been found. In fact, it's entirely possible that this object is one of the other Poneglyphs seen in the series, such as the one discovered by Nico Robin in West Blue or the completely unknown one in Big Mom's stronghold. In any case, barring an unexpected recall, the purpose of this Poneglyph will probably perish alongside the last members of the Roger Pirates.
Onigashima's unknown poneglyph
The raid on Onigashima gave rise to many notable events. However, one in particular is systematically overlooked. In the course of his search for a roadside poneglyph, Trafalgar D. Water Law stumbled across another unpublished poneglyph stored on the second floor of the Skull Dome basement.
Although this poneglyph is not what Law was looking for, any information gleaned from a poneglyph is an important insight into the world's lost history. Whether the information etched into the object will ever be revealed remains to be seen, but given Law's long-standing connection with the Straw Hat Pirates, it's entirely possible.
