In the world of One Piece , those who consume Demon Fruit acquire special abilities. Despite the disadvantages associated with consuming Demon Fruit, most users eventually learn to control their powers and use them to their advantage. Nico Robin is one such character. However, even among the unique abilities of the countless Demon Fruits, she possesses one of the most unusual powers. Robin plays the role of a villain in the Alabasta saga, later joining Luffy's crew and becoming one of the most popular straw hats.
Nico Robin and the Hana Hana No Mi
Robin is also the key to Luffy becoming king of the pirates, thanks to her ability to read poneglyphs. However, as well as being a genius archaeologist, Robin is also a powerful fighter and, arguably, the most developed female character in the series. She can sprout duplicate body parts in any location she desires and, after time-jumping, she can even create clones of herself and use them in battle. Her many complex techniques seem to surpass the capabilities of any ordinary paramecium fruit. Here's an overview of Robin's Demon Fruit powers and how they work.Discover our Nico Robin Figure |
Nico Robin was first introduced as Miss All Sunday, one of Crocodile's servants during the Alabasta arc. She went on to save Luffy's life twice, proving that she wasn't as evil as her "boss". Thanks to her actions, Luffy saved Robin from the collapse of the Tomb of the Kings. As one of four Demon Fruit users among Luffy's crew, the Hana Hana no Mi has always come in handy since Nico Robin joined the Straw Hats. That said, some One Piece fans would like to know more about how Robin's Demon Fruit works. As such, we've updated this feature with some additional information.
What is Robin's demon fruit?
Robin has the powers of a paramecium-type devil's fruit called Hana Hana no Mi, which translates as Fruit-Flower. This signifies the ability of the Devil Fruit, as the body parts of its consumer seem to blossom from the main body. Hana Hana no Mi has the appearance of a pink, flower-shaped fruit with a stem protruding from the top. It features signature "S" patterns with swirls, just like any other devil fruit. Overall, the fruit has the appearance of a pink dahlia.
In terms of powers, Robin can reproduce part of her body from the surface of any object. Although this ability requires a certain range to activate, it has proven capable of sprouting limbs from great distances. What's more, Robin has total control over her duplicated body parts. She can also glean information remotely by copying her ears and eyes, often by implanting them on her elongated limbs. This function probably applies to the other senses, but fans have yet to see Robin's nose or tongue duplicated. More importantly, she can also create an infinite number of duplicates within her range.
Hana Hana No Mi techniques before ellipse
Robin has improved by leaps and bounds over the years, as have her Demon Fruit techniques. As a child, Robin duplicated her eyes and ears to sneak into the Ohara library and listen in on professors' discussions as well as read highly classified books, setting her on the path to becoming a brilliant archaeologist herself. Later, Professor Clover recognized her talents and accepted her as a full-fledged archaeologist at just eight years of age. In fact, Robin earns her first bounty of 79 million bellies at this surprisingly young age, thanks in part to Hana Hana no Mi's abilities.
She mainly uses her Demon Fruit to duplicate her arms and use them for various purposes, and has a wide range of techniques just for duplicating her arms. Robin follows a certain pattern when naming her techniques: first she recites the number of limbs in Spanish and then adds the word "fleur", which is the French word for "flower". If she wishes to attack an opponent, she adds the name of the attack along with the technique. For example, Robin can grow two arms using the Dos Fleur technique, and using Dos Fluer : Clutch, she can block the enemy's mouth and twist him backwards, breaking his bones. Similarly, she can use a number of multi-arm techniques, such as Seize, Slap, Twist, Flip, Slam, Strangle, Hang, Hold and Shock.

Robin also uses a technique called Wing to make a hundred arms appear from his back and shoulder blades. These arms are held tightly together in a specific way to resemble two giant wings. Although Robin can't fly long distances with this technique, she can avoid falling from a height thanks to it. She can use this technique for a maximum of five seconds and can also carry a person. Her other useful technique is Spider Net, where, once again, she networks dozens of arms to generate a veritable safety net. Robin's Demon Fruit can also work in sync with other Straw Hats, as demonstrated by the combo ability called "600,000,000 Belly Jackpot". There are many other features and abilities associated with the Hana Hana no Mi Devil Fruit, even before the ellipse.
Hana Hana No Mi techniques after the ellipse
After the time jump, Robin still excels in her abilities and is able to create a thousand arms or legs. Her Mil Fleur technique literally means Thousand Flowers, through which she creates two enormous arms or legs and performs a number of techniques with them. What's more, she can even create a clone of herself using Cuerpo Fleur, meaning Body Flower. This ability allows her to duplicate her entire body wherever she wishes. Robin uses this technique in the Dressrosa saga to deliver a missive to Law after being trapped in the kingdom of Tontatta. She uses it again to infiltrate enemy secret rooms in the Wano saga. This arc gives Robin major power gains, further amplifying her already formidable skills.
Her Gigante Fleur technique, meaning Giant Flower, enables her to create a massive replica of her upper body, as well as numerous huge disembodied limbs. This is initially seen when she fights Black Maria. Robin's most fashionable technique, Demonio Fleur, or Demon Blooming, is a direct link to the term "Devil Child", the title originally given to her. This ability is similar to Gigante Fleur, in that it generates a huge copy of her torso, arms and head. However, the main difference is that this technique adds horns, fangs, dark skin and wings that would suit a bat better than a human. Robin's Demonio grabs the opponent and seals him in an extremely tight grip before inflicting immense damage with the Gran Jacuzzi Clutch technique. Another post-timeskip technique developed by Nico Robin is Fish-Man Karate: Giganteum, which integrates the eponymous martial art into the Hana Hana no Mi arsenal.
The strengths and weaknesses of Hana Hana No Mi
One notable point is Robin's spectacular evolution during the time jump. Before, she was only able to conjure up a hundred or so weapons, but she increases her skills tenfold during the two-year separation from the crew. With the exception of the sea-stone prism, Robin has no limit to where she can sprout body parts. She can even sprout arms on her opponent's body, taking on several enemies at once. Thanks to her wide range of techniques, Robin is suited to both attack and defense, as well as obtaining information about enemies by spying on them.
However, one of the main weaknesses of her Demon Fruit is that her real body suffers the same damage as the copied body parts. Even if she doesn't necessarily injure herself, she feels pain. As such, her giant body parts are even more at risk, as they give her opponents a bigger target to hit. What's more, her signature Mil Fleur technique drains far more energy than her other abilities. Although Robin has no limit to where she can sprout body parts, she does need visibility of the area where she wishes to use her techniques. Apart from these few drawbacks, Robin is not immune to the negative effects of the sea itself, like all other Devil Fruit users in the story. She'll sink if she falls into the ocean, and no amount of body duplication will save her.
