History of anime:

It starts out as a fairly standard sports shônen.

The story begins with the appearance of Shôyô Hinata, a student at Yukigaoka Middle School who develops a passion for volleyball after seeing a legendary high school player, nicknamed "The Little Giant," in action. Just like him, Hinata is small in stature and resolves to prove that she will not be prevented from practicing and shining in her new favorite sport. During his last year at school, he creates a volleyball club made up mainly of amateur players. Together, they participate in a tournament but, unfortunately for our hero, his team is eliminated in the first round by Tobio Kageyama's team, a genius setter belonging to Kitagawa Daiichi College. Hinata swears to surpass Kageyama and joins Karasuno high school, the one where "The little giant" used to play. What a surprise when he finds Kageyama who also joins the volleyball club. The two young men will have to learn to play together if they want to lead their team to the top of the national championship.

Haikyuu !! tells then, and mainly, the story of two protagonists, namely Hinata and Kageyama. On the one hand, we find Hinata, a player who wants to prove above all that his size will not be a handicap to become one of the biggest stars of his sport. On the other hand, Kageyama, a prodigy player who suffers from being, in his eyes, surrounded by average players that he tries to make evolve to his own level. That's why he will be nicknamed "The King of Courts", a nickname more pejorative than anything else.
