Ranma Saotome, a young martial arts prodigy, embarks on a training journey to China with his father Genma in order to perfect their combat skills. During their expedition, they discover Jusenkyo, an enchanted valley dotted with springs possessing supernatural properties. Fate strikes cruelly: father and son accidentally fall into these cursed pools. Ranma plunges into the Spring of the Drowned Girl, while Genma falls into the Spring of the Drowned Panda.

Since this tragic incident, Ranma suffers from a particularly embarrassing curse: the slightest contact with cold water instantly transforms him into a girl, and only boiling water can restore his original male appearance. His father, by the same principle, shifts into a massive panda depending on the water temperature.

Upon returning to Japan, Ranma learns that Genma has arranged his engagement to Akane Tendo, the youngest daughter of his training partner Soun Tendo, in an effort to unite their two family dojos. Akane, a hot-tempered teenager with a deep resentment toward men, is far from thrilled by this forced engagement. As for Ranma, his dual form complicates matters even further…

Between outrageous martial arts duels, chaotic mishaps related to his transformations, rival suitors appearing from every direction, and misunderstandings piling up, Ranma must navigate his disorderly daily life while desperately seeking a way to break his curse.
