Toshiro possesses great Spiritual Power as well as a very powerful Zanpakutō, the most powerful of the ice Zanpakutōs, Hyōrinmaru. This allows him to create and control ice, as well as the weather to a certain extent.

Hitsugaya's Bankai: Daiguren Hyōrinmaru, pours Hyōrinmaru's ice onto Hitsugaya, starting with his right arm, on which ice forms in the shape of a dragon's head around his hand.

It wasn't until his fight against Gerard Valkyrie during the Millennium Bloody War that Hitsugaya managed to complete his Bankai, giving him an adult body and prodigious strength.
